7:01 am
alone welcome you're watching r.t. international with me nicky aaron now we begin with the tragedy in the russian city of camera over the death toll from the fire at a shopping center and entertainment center there continues to climb it's now reached sixty four people many of them are children there are also a number of people still missing according to the author artie's video from inside the burning mall has emerged online. just first of all that. it's all this to do. this what you did was going to was a subdued good we've got to watch that we've got. to do do not cooperate.
7:02 am
i knew you couldn't quite see for yourself witnesses say people were unable to escape from the building and were seen jumping from windows there are now conflicting reports about the cause of the fire none have been officially confirmed as yet local media is reporting it may have started at a children's playground and would have warning you might find some of the following images extremely upsetting. it was horrific the mall was packed with people we could hear the fire alarm. the smoke filled the cinema a grabbed my system one ran down the stairs was a terrible crush and syrup visibility my hands are still trembling when i imagine what could have happened to. one man
7:03 am
began to panic he said we should jump over the roof because it would soon collapse we sheltered from the roof to be rescued but no one came for forty minutes. to. see when you. get the mood is the globe really good i didn't see did you get a. good movie school student maybe you see if you do when the. bushes it easy to be good you can see it it's good to see certain things but. serious case you push to be good movement against it but such. good. fortune or good students it's. going to stick double some point.

to which. just plain evil is the solution to. the issue but actually what is most of them might include what it must look this is not going to miss it it took us nine plus more features than piece of work it should have been encouraged it would be simple to do it is not. to choose to use knowledge the courage to look at to discuss the purchase took a look at the good would you say no we don't read the story. here's what we know about the shopping mall the building itself is a converted sweet factory in the center of the city just a week ago according to some reports there was a fire drill there and despite that many witnesses say the system failed to work and there was no alarm in the aftermath of the fire the city has canceled all
7:05 am
entertainment and cultural events in a mark of respect to those who lost their lives the region has declared three days of mourning people also bringing flowers candles and perhaps most poignantly as of all toys to the shopping center people in camera are also now lining up to donate blood for the victims what we know at the moment is that fifty people were injured in the fire ten of them were taken to hospital some in a critical condition r.t. in a day or two to break down the events of the charging day. day out family day out usually people just walking around that shopping mall allowing their children to obviously wander around it's really a tragic incident that we're seeing here now now we have had reports directly from people of that plays through social media that were descriptions of panic descriptions of people trying to make their way to the top floor only to be faced with smoke and of course they didn't apparently hear any loud speakers or
7:06 am
a fire alarm as a warning what we can have is a witness statement from a friend of two people who were missing and the warnings that they heard i was told by my boyfriend at the time of the incident that he and his friend tried to drag children away from the fire because of the think smog they were prevented from staying there and you learned by the shopping mall workers who said the children. people who are smashing windows with their hands and feet because it was impossible to be it was so scary i saw how people jumped out of the windows one person jumped in and now the boy is now in a coma from what you have heard and another person has broke his spine that is a life i lost. part of the managed to ski but i lost contact with so and have not heard from them for over a. situation of not knowing when and just waiting is no fragment no one slept the whole night among the dead were

a mother and daughter four to five from twelve years old and the father you know yesterday he was another supers and he going to get married that there was a fire in the shopping mall he spoke to his wife a few hours earlier and he knew that they had gone there when he came in earlier today had health issues with his heart when he got his family we've also got reaction from other eyewitnesses describing what they saw and how people dealt with the situation you can't instead of. just look at those inches of show still not zero. deserts me our music means essential if you move. on which teacher was loaded. with what is good for the curriculum. you could see the joke you know. the music if. you don't understand. it would you like to hear. this because.
7:08 am
you know this is the new look. you do when you come in they didn't want to read. one of the stories that really has stood out is a group of primary school children that were actually on a school trip and they had come from outside the city the teacher had let them go around and took them to a cartoon show eight of these primary school children missing what we have a really quite strong and heart rendering messages that they texted. one saying i can't get out i can't breathe another was saying tell mom i love her and this one is particularly tragic this is the end so those are the kind of messages that we've seen coming out of that no one knows where they are. and you can imagine the fear that they were feeling there. correspondent is in the city of camera right now over the past few hours the death toll has continued to rise can
7:09 am
you give us a sense of the city right now. standing united standing as a family there are no bystanders bystanders around it seems that every single person i've come here to lay flowers bring toys and light candles at the scene of this self improvised vigil just outside the shopping mall. it was quite a blaze late on a sunday evening and apparently the fire started. at the children's playground over there we don't know what exactly caused the fire there are two versions one is that someone apparently troubled youths deliberately set a blaze of the form pit. in the trampoline area and another one is. electrical but whatever caused the fire everything that happened afterwards people were beating all boards they had to be to every single order to get out first and
7:10 am
foremost the the fire prevention system didn't really work at all there was no sound alarm to give an early warning for the people inside the sprinkler the sprinklers didn't work either and when people smelled the smoke and rushed to escape to fire escape exits well some of them were locked and they actually had to they had to break doors and jump out of the windows that's how many of the survivors got the injuries now apparently a lot of kids a lot of children goes missing. to see these two lists and that's because it was a sunday evening and a lot of families were in the shopping mall apparently one of the one of the cinema halls was packed with children watching a cartoon now this shopping mall used to be a warehouse and apparently the latest. fire safety check was conducted not so
7:11 am
long ago really but clearly some very very grave and outrageous outrageous floors were somehow missed by the commission the investigation has been launched into how this tragedy even worse was even possible several people have been arrested including the fire safety chief and the owner of the mall they're being questioned by the russian intelligence service by the russians by the russian investigative committee i should say on excuse me so really everybody says look. everyone here and around. how how each of these people right now standing here as a family could have lost. their loved ones over night. and day thanks a mixture with the heartbreak and anger amongst people there in this city i'm sure it goes down off thank you the day for now when i first got this what i guess now joining us live is rafael post from united as rarely emergency medical service i
7:12 am
missed a post thank you for joining us on the program now incidents like this is our go away is devastating heartbreaking even most that when so many children are involved this is the sort of situation that you deal with for a living can you give us a sense of what the emergency services would have had to deal with when they first arrived at the scene. well the first thing that you have to do is the human aspect in a tragedy like this i mean it does it goes beyond all bounds of known tragedies the when when people are killed in a fire or any sort of mass casualty incident as we call it. it's incredibly tragic and our hearts here from israel also go out to the families and to the survivors of those who suffered in the tragedy income arrival and. if there's any assistance that we can give we would definitely gladly give that. so it's the first thing in terms of how the services need to deal with this the first
7:13 am
thing that needs to be done is orchestration. services are going to rush to the scene everyone's going to want to help in that scene and you need to be someone in control of the scene itself in order to organize straight how the emergency services are going to arrive at the scene from the reports that i've received there are approximately there are close to three hundred firefighters at the scene and i'm assuming there is just as many. service people at the scene as well and that can lead to a lot of. a lot of miscommunication at the scene it can lead to a lot of. discombobulation at the scene so orchestration organizing the scene itself as the first. first priority and needs to happen even before people go and help out. one of the things we have here is a protocol for what's called an m.c.i. which i wrote before of a mass casualty incident whenever there's a lot of people injured or a lot of people having their lives being threatened or you know god forbid a lot of people killed the first thing needs to happen is someone to take charge
7:14 am
and there's an important point person who takes charge of the scene and they organize and tell everyone else who comes after them where to go who to save which areas they divide usually the area up into one into into a grid and then each person is each responder where there is fire or e.m.'s is sent to one position there and when they finish that position then they move on to another one and that way you avoid a situation where you have a number of responders going to the same place and no one helping people in the other place and mr to ation the have been situations where. family all the victims have been very angry and the emergency services involved saying they are equipped enough is inevitable that counties are going to look for someone to blame in this situation. it's very difficult for me to say i wasn't there i don't i don't know exactly what the situation was but an emergent blaze like this where an entire mall is engulfed in flames and hundreds of people have thousands of people inside.
7:15 am
that can be a difficult situation for any emergency service to handle no matter where they are in the world and if it's not done properly it can be it can turn into a very large. even a little bit larger disaster than the one that was already there has to be really dealt with properly and i'm sure the russian services did as best they could with situation at hand it seemed that was a very difficult situation and one that was very difficult to control from the. took nineteen hours to get the fire under control now the emergency services the medical services in israel the protocols were not allowed to go into a place where there's a fire until the fire department tells us that we can and that it's safe because we don't want more people getting injured and i'm sure that was george and there. from the reports were coming in the disaster was immense. i refound partial united. medical service thank you for speaking so as on this matter thank you and everyone
7:16 am
can take you the families of the victims met with city officials in a nearby school and understandably couldn't hold back their anger. was much much. more if you want me rushes health minister is in camera that's where we see the medical side of the recovery operation for running. genetic testing may be needed to identify many of the victims she also gave an update on one patient who's in a serious condition. one trip i didn't still look at this moment eleven people are still hospitalized an eleven year old boy is in the most serious condition he
7:17 am
jumped from the fourth floor to save his life his parents and the younger sister died in the tragedy he is the only survivor from his family the boy has serious injuries and now needs an artificial lung ventilator the boy that the minister is referring to can be seen in this first stage has now in an induced coma as he tries to recover from his injuries sadly he lost his parents and his sister in the fire. that the boy jumped from the fourth floor so he has a range of serious trauma he first inhaled smoke and then fell from a heart. condition remains serious but there are some signs that his condition is improving. the blaze incomer of a has been named as one of the deadliest in russia in the past one hundred years two other similar tragedies have struck the country in the last decade.
7:18 am
condolences for the families of the victims have been coming in from around the world germany the united states china and the u.k. are among those who have expressed that story will be closely following the tragedy in siberia throughout the day i remind and now sixty four people have been confirmed dead rescuers are continuing to search the burned out shopping mall and

us to today and to this rather amusing me julian assange has been living in a london embassy for over five years has had his life threatened by politicians and has been called a traitor for his work as a whistleblower and while it's like a bird may not exactly be sitting pretty at the moment what with the hit his company stocks have taken and the requests from both the u.s. and the u.k. to testify on the situation i highly doubt the guy will be facing life threatening consequences if any at all but only time. thousands of proconsul and separatists have clashed with police in barcelona as protests turned violent in the city throughout sunday. the.
