it out but i would like to point out that there seems to be some good cop bad cop going on when it comes to aardman histories and the way that we're trying to deal with kim jong un you remember donald trump president tweets calling him calling him john and a little rocket man and that he's a maniac and he's a madman and at the time trump's critics saying you're to be starting world war three with those tweets well as it turns out kim jong un he understands the schoolyard he understands taunts and that might have been kind of a way to break through to him and again play good cop bad cop to get into that negotiating table there's still a lot of time between now and june thinkers crossed that it doesn't blow up metaphorically so to speak between now and then but any little bit of progress is a good thing and by the way mr rumsfeld will be on the show on politicking next week jose is mr to own the bad cop now he if he is saying i don't want to sit down if you're going to talk about denuclearization has the as the positions
3:01 am
reversed. yeah look i think i think they have i think we have to remember too to amy's point that there are other players that are part of this negotiations including obviously south korea i really really hope that the summit happens come june i would advice the president to maybe lay off twitter for a little while because those conversations are very sensitive and we have known that the president likes to speak a little too much when it comes to using twitter on social media so it's something that happened but we've got to find. not a middle ground per se but we've got to make sure that we maybe do something step by step we can do my way or the highway type of approach when it comes to north korea we'll be right back with more politicking.
3:02 am
americans are free trade countries not a capitalist countries not believing in competition it's a monopolist country that believes in monopolization and their like to use the dollar as their bludgeon to beat people into submission and if you try to get out
3:03 am
of the dollar whether. it's syria iraq libya or iran that just actually said they're getting out of the dollar to go to europe you get bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum why because it dollars collateralized by filing ultra miles. in twenty forty you know bloody revolution to tikrit the demonstrations going from being relatively peaceful political protests to be increasingly violent revolution is always spontaneous or is it the lawyer here i mean you are liz put into a cream in the neighborly is that pulling me to the former ukrainian president recalls the events of twenty fourteen. those who took part in this to do over five billion dollars to assist ukraine in these and other calls that will ensure a secure and prosperous and democratic.
3:04 am
politicking continue a discussion with our political panel our guests are all jose aristide munyal former deputy national press secretary of the democratic party he joins us from washington and in new york amy holmes now co-host of t.v.'s show in principle and a former staffer to senate majority leader bill frist ok other subjects on wednesday president clinton since i mentioned disclosure forms that he has repeated to me michael cohen as much as two hundred fifty thousand dollars including one hundred thirty thousand tade to stormy daniels amy what's your reaction. so what president trump is coming to agreements with women he may have been involved with for them to be discreet they took the money they cashed the check now they want more fame and fortune i think politically this is a nothing sandwich for the president voters knew what they were getting when they
3:05 am
voted for him november eighth sixty three million people knew exactly who donald trump was and they made that choice what does this mean in terms for democrats we would forward i would tell them to be very careful about trying to press this is a political matter because polling is showing and the public's reaction to this is it's just it's a sideshow it's a side story you want to get at some sort of federal election commission thing involved here that just seems to be trying to make a mountain out of a molehill president trump we knew he wasn't a saint and he himself would say he was certainly no choirboy jose the democrats could run a commercial showing trump discussing stormy daniels as that crazy thing and dismissing it and saying he didn't know anything about any payoffs could never barras the president could not be used in a campaign absolutely and look i think it should whether the whole stormy daniels scandal will take four front and center come for the midterms no absolutely not i'm
3:06 am
a good americans really want to make sure what are they going to get in terms of health care what are they going to get in terms of their economy their middle class what have you but this is important larry because he plays to the character of the president he's a liar he lies in day in and day out of this white house that's why there scandal after scandal not only the stormy daniels scandal we've got the russian investigation whether there was a section of justice or what have you so yes absolutely this needs to be this is fair game when it comes to comes to politics jose nancy pelosi recently told the boston globe she think democrats will retake the house and she will run for speaker . well for her democrats in the midterms i think it would help us nancy is an outstanding fundraiser for a party and i think that goes without saying larry that we need also new blood in the party and we have seen that we have won over forty state legislator races since
3:07 am
trump became president we won a few important primaries on our side as democrats and we have seen many progressive candidates come out of the primaries so i can tell you that our party continues to reshape itself in accordance to or population of the people that join our party and we should continue to do so i am very optimistic that we can retake the house come november some of the latest polls that i've seen say that we have a little bit of over over six percent lead now we have we got to be careful we got to make sure the democrats mobilize they organize that's the way that we will continue to win come november but i think i'm very hopeful number one because we have a president that truly doesn't care about the american people and we have seen time and time again that republicans who put themselves. close to the president continue to lose elections jose do you agree with closely when she says impeachment should not be an issue in the campaign races in twenty eighteen. i can tell you that the
3:08 am
main issue should be like amy was saying immigration the economy health care you know millions of people larry have been losing their insurance their premiums their premiums have been going up because republicans continue to try to sabotage obamacare when they should be trying to improve it we got to remember and this is very important that under the trungpa ministration there advertisement of budget for open enrollment was cut they open enrollment period was cut by half so because they were trying. to confuse the american people so they wouldn't get health care so it's very dangerous and very upsetting and i'm disappointed of the way that the i mean instruction has has come forward and have handled the whole health care issue in america and we should the white house apologize and should kelly said keep her job or have to sing about mccain he's dying anyway. that was such a crass and ugly remark for that young woman to make in the white house staff
3:09 am
meeting and apparently she promised the mccain mccain family that she would issue a public apology i think she needs to deliver on that promise if you tell people i'm going to let the whole world know that i was sorry for making those remarks about your father dying of brain cancer then i think it's your obligation to do that but i also understand the white house point of view sarah huckabee sanders in saying look whoever leaked this information leaked this remark to the press they weren't just hurting kelly's saddler which seem to be their intention they're also hurting the integrity of being able to have staff meetings where people can speak candidly and at the end of the day they're hurting the boss that now the white house is you know being dragged into this because one staffer made this remark in a private meeting and another staffer leaked it i don't know if that person had their knives out they've been trying to get this woman fired and this was their opportunity but at the end of the day it doesn't serve their staff and it doesn't
3:10 am
serve the president and it doesn't serve the american people but getting back to kerry kelly saddler yes she owes mccain family a public apology just as she promised she would all presidents have said this but this week president trumps we did that leakers are traitors saying leakers are traitors and cowers and he'll find out who they are i think every president has said they will find out who the leaders are and i have never heard in my years on earth one leader revealed. well there you remember during the bush years there was you know the manhunt for who leaked the name of the cia operative valerie plame etc scooter libby got in the crosshairs and it turns out he wasn't the leaker it was richard armitage not scooter libby's so these leaks const tend to be extremely destructive but you know you should be leaking in the first place we saw during the obama years that the leak khan's became quite legal and journalists were in the crosshairs with the obama skinny the obama administration department of justice
3:11 am
with with them going after james rosen reporters at the a.p. reporters at the new york times so this thing can actually really snowball and get people involved who were never leaking in the first place jose foreman second tuesday rex tillerson in a. in a speech at the commencement address at virginia military institute one of a growing crisis in ethics and integrity in washington talk to the importance of truth the political discourse and insists that a common set of facts was essential to maintaining a free society you see apparently talking about president trump. he sure it isn't because there is nothing. that comes to the truth when it comes of the way the trumpets handled his presidency he's been lined from day one specially when it comes to perfect example that he didn't know anything about stormy daniels and the
3:12 am
payoff and then all of a sudden he does so he continues to do this but come forward i think the former secretary of state. is basically just saying i feel good type of speech does not represent the coin ministration and of course you're going to talk about truth and fig news right they love to blame the media when they say things done when the media such things are they don't agree with so the american people will judge the president whether he's a liar or not and we will see that come november and we will see that in twenty one amy when he sits down with mr miller well at every lawyer in america particularly defense attorneys including alan dershowitz would say that is a terrible idea especially when you know that mr miller is trying to set perjury traps far far apart and separate and away from the original mission of the investigation which is did the russians meddle in our election and was there any collusion which by the way is not a legal term but was there any cooperation with the trial campaign so most legal
3:13 am
experts would tell you that mr trump sitting down with mr mueller is a very bad idea but getting back to the former secretary of state mr tillerson in his speech perhaps he was talking about the president hard to know he didn't say but he very well could have been talking about james comey or james clapper our former director of national intelligence or for that matter john brennan our former cia director who we are learning every day has not been telling the truth both under oath and to the american people when it comes to the russian vest a geisha in the steel dossier what role that played in opening that investigation all three of those gentlemen have been caught in some pretty serious lies and i think a lot of people are frankly sick of it. i hope is a do you expect democrats to regain a majority in the house. i am very confident larry that we can make that happen again we've seen the blue wave come in we've been winning elections left and right since mr trump became president i think we can do it but we've got to make sure that every single democrat does not stay at home they come out they mobilize their
3:14 am
organize and they and they continue to represent and that we continue to represent the democratic values we move forward i'm very optimistic that we can make it happen but we've got to work for a media check the democrats to get back to gun control is an issue. you know i would be surprised if they did but within the democratic party there is you know this tug of war you have the progressive left that wants democrats to run as as the progressive left and as the hash tag resistance anti trump anti trump but then you've also seen other democrats where they have had success in the special elections running away from the progressive left you saw in the pennsylvania special election in alabama those democrats ran as centrist they did not mention nancy pelosi stayed far away from all of that and actually did not criticize donald trump as they were trying to gain those you know high interest and possibly even center right amy on the i think it's politicians have to go their own way in the on the other hand there's
3:15 am
a strong poll out that young republicans are turned off by trump young republicans what do you make of that. you know that doesn't surprise me we saw in the last election cycle in twenty sixteen so many millennia as you love bernie sanders over hillary clinton and then of course in the exit polling democrats did very well with those young voters young republicans i think that there is a lot of conflict there in terms of what does trump represent is he conservative what is trump ism and donald trump has his own shall we say flamboyant approach to governing that is not necessarily republican so that doesn't surprise me but come this november look it is an uphill battle for republicans historically. it's against them to be able to maintain control of the house they only have a twenty three seat margin so you know they can be fighting you know fighting very hard to keep it to that twenty three but if they lose anything more than that and democrats regain control jose's your favorite candidate democrat in twenty twenty i
3:16 am
can say i have a favorite yet larry but i have a few favorites i think there's a we have a lot of great candidates i really like william castro cory booker's really great potentially martin o'malley former governor of maryland so there's a few camilla harris was also great so we got a great diverse portfolio so i'm excited to see what happens and media what do you make of this apparent or supposed risk between tense and trump. i think that's pretty overblown i think that we've seen the vice president handle his position very well actually that he seems to understand his role as vice president and he's building up the political infrastructure that he knows how to do we have to remember he's a former congressman former governor of indiana he understands a republican party and all the machinery of that very well and putting that machinery to work for the present united states for the midterms and for two
3:17 am
thousand and twenty i think there's you know just a lot of water cooler nonsense that goes on in washington and i think we should the best thing to do is wait and see so far the vice president has been a total team player jose and amy thank you so much for joining us on this edition of politicking thank you eric thank you and remember audience you can join the conversation by going on my facebook page or tweeting me at kings things and don't forget use the politicking hash tag and that's all for this edition of politicking .

the united states can always add a. new. tax on other countries'. economic sanctions or are often just the beginning another thing you like to do is place some military press around the country talking about.
3:19 am
and there has to be an effort to demonize that country and the leader of that country. leave the responsibility for the home. and we need to make rules for the rest of. us without us there will be. a. summit or no summit that's the question north korea's threat of a no show one single for on june twelfth is a reminder to washington that north korea will not merely cave to american demands if there's going to be an agreement it's going to take time and patience.
3:20 am
the u.s. senate confirms gina hospital as the new head of the cia despite the widespread concerns about her role in the torture of terrorist suspects. pledged good relationship to show me we have to be consuming so become so good and feel good projections that. be very strong. donald trump urges north korea to strike a deal with the u.s. after pyongyang threatens to counsel a summit should yield for june. and europe prepares legal action to protect firms from u.s. sanctions in a bid to save the iran nuclear deal. this
3:21 am
is r.t. international coming to you live from moscow on partridge thank you for joining us . tonight house bill has become the first woman to lead the cia after being approved by the u.s. senate donald trump's nominee won the support of almost all republicans and half a dozen democrats despite her controversial career and role in torturing terrorist suspects r.t. samir khan has more. well even after the commerce controversy the final vote was fifty four yes and forty five nays and this comes a week after she faced some tough questions from the senate intel committee regarding her role in the cia's torture program but she never really gave a direct answer do you believe the program in terms that you interrogation program was consistent with american values we have decided to hold ourselves to a stricter moral standard are they consistent with american values senator i believe very strongly in american values i want to trust that you have the moral
3:22 am
compass that you said you have i have conducted myself honorably and in accordance with u.s. law do you believe that the previous interrogation techniques were immoral what i believe sitting here today is that i support the higher moral standard we have decided to hold ourselves to answer the question. and i think i've answered the question i have not a vote shows a split within the democratic party six in total supported her including senator mark warner from virginia i will feel safer knowing that the cia has miscast but at the helm more importantly i believe she is someone who can and will stand up to the president. who speak truth to power and if this president orders her to do something illegal or immoral like return to torture she were a fuse according to the american civil liberties union hassle overseed torture that
3:23 am
included chaining detainees to ceilings for days slamming them into walls simulated drowning and deprivation of food and sleep but lo and behold she was confirmed by the senate anyway what we saw in the senate today was a collapse among democrats a collapse in democratic leadership you know how hard it's going to be to convince our european allies that it's ok to have a torturer as the director of the cia what's the united states going to do when when the german federal prosecutor for example follows through with his recommendation that charges be filed against you the hassle for crimes against humanity how can you have a cia director that's not permitted to go to europe because she has serious felony charges hanging over her head this is something that the democrats could have seized on and they had the support of john mccain and they had the support of jeff flake as your junior senator from arizona and they did nothing with it we were looking for leadership on the anti haskell side from the likes of mark warner the
3:24 am
senior senator from virginia who is also the vice chairman of the senate intelligence committee and he flip flopped and decided after saying all these things about you know haskel and how terrible it was what she did that she should never have destroyed the tapes and then when it really came down to it he voted yes that was a complete abdication of leadership among the democrats well meanwhile the u.s. president is urging north korea to just magically its nuclear program don and claims the north can become very rich if it decreased to washington's to moon's that's ahead of a summit between the country's leaders share june fifth. we make a deal i think kim jong un is going to be very very happy i really believe he's going to be very happy and he'll get protections that will be very strong his country would be very rich his people are tremendously industrious if you look at south korea this would be really a south korean model in terms of their industry in terms of what they do the hard
3:25 am
work an incredible people you have to remember that for the last several decades donald trump has been very well known as a businessman he actually wrote a book a best selling book called the art of the deal so we shouldn't be surprised to see donald trump out front promising all kinds of riches to north korea if they agree to his deal and furthermore we shouldn't be surprised with him indicating that things might not be so rosy if they don't go along with it this is another statement we've heard from donald trump and i think when john bolton made that statement. i think that's what denuclearization means and we have very much in mind the libyan model from two thousand and three two thousand and four he was talking about if we're going. to be having a problem because we cannot let that country have nukes we just can't do it the model if you look at that model with gadhafi that was a total disarray should we went in there to beat him now that model would take
3:26 am
place if we don't make a deal most likely now libya by bringing that up that's certainly a threat now libya was the most prosperous country on the african continent until two thousand and eleven the government was overthrown and the country has been in a state of civil war ever sense you know people are fleeing it's just in utter chaos so bringing that up is certainly you know using both the carrot and the stick as some would say now north korea is also you know using the hard negotiation skills we've recently heard north korea threatening to pull out of the negotiations over the provocative military exercises that are taking place in south korea for a long time these drills have been taking place and they're essentially a rehearsal according to north korea for invading them this is a provocative military exercise you have the u.s. forces there north korea is threatening that they might pull out so we're seeing both north korea and the united states kim jong un and donald trump you know
3:27 am
playing a hard negotiation game in the lead up to this planned meeting hopefully resolving the crisis on the peninsula so the whole world is watching them waiting to see what happens next. well here opinion is taking steps to counteract u.s. sanctions against that deal with iran the president of the commission showing crude he has to so-called blocking statutes to be imposed. could've worked as the european commission we have the duty to protect european companies so we now need to act and this is why we're launching the process of activating the blocking statute from one thousand nine hundred six we will do that tomorrow morning at ten thirty start off with just what is the blocking statute well it's the strongest weapon in the e.u.'s legislative arsenal when it comes to tackling sanctions placed upon businesses and entities from the european union the law itself goes back to one thousand nine hundred six it's never been acted put the closest it ever came
3:28 am
into operation was back in ninety six when the u.s. was considering placing sanctions on european businesses importing things and doing trade with cuba what we are going to see is that on ten thirty on friday morning a really written version of this law specifically for the current situation regarding the threat of sanctions against businesses who will continue to trade with iran what may have been but final straw and pushing the european commission towards implementing the blocking starch it may well have been these words from french petrochemicals giant to tell saying they weren't sure whether they were willing to risk sanctions by the u.s. would not be in a position to continue the project and will have to on wind all related or bridge before for november twenty eighth seen on list total is granted a specific project by the u.s. authorities with the support of the french and european authorities are speaking at
3:29 am
a summit of e.u. leaders in saffir the french president emmanuel mccann vowed to protect european business but is a fear that we will work to maintain the framework of the twenty fifteen deal in spite of the american decision and we will do so in a concrete manner by maintaining our political engagements by ensuring that our companies can stay in iran and also by getting all parties to pursue negotiations for a larger. indispensable deal but despite the words from politicians in the action of implementing the blocking statute that still hasn't stopped other companies from already saying it they weren't going to do any more trade in iran we've seen ali answer the german ensuring giant say they were going to pull out they also alongside the danish shipping company maersk the pull out by donald trump from the iran deal that unilateral decision to take the u.s. out of the iran nuclear deal that really has soured relations between some of
3:30 am
europe's leading leaders if you will and got merkel said just this week that europe was at a crossroads when it came to its relationship with the u.s. it certainly seems if it continues down this route it's a route that doesn't bring washington or brussels closer together donald trump is testing the patience of the european union and the u.s. needs to understand another part of the international community and they can't just throw their weight around as they've been doing and expects everybody to fall into line donald trump has as damaged relations is no doubt about that bought. clear that the e.u. are prepared to stand up to him now and he'll obviously have to or is advisors will have to reflect on where they go now hopefully it will be a wake up call for the whole trump and you know he will start to see sense but if he doesn't there is a real danger the so i was still for. italy.
