but not through bombs and if they fail basic seed and they will not succeed they will create difficulty but they won't succeed but if they succeed then they will move on to the next countries countries like russia countries like china any country that is independent of the united states so this is a very important moment for the whole of the international community including the europeans to make a stand and make sure that the united states does not behave like or trumpet not behave like the global godfather professor marandi what kind of impact do you expect from the new u.s. sanctions to be imposed on iran. well i think it's going to definitely cause difficulty for your ordinary iranians the last time around when the americans imposed sanctions very severe and what obama used to call crippling sanctions. large numbers of iranian died in the first two months because they could not buy medicine imported medicine was almost impossible for people to

access and even medicine produced in iran they had trouble importing the materials to produce so many iranian side as a result obama was guilty of those crimes in my opinion but then the iranians began to learn how to circumvent the sanctions so it's going to be difficult but i think the world has changed asia is on the rise the united states is less influential than before trump is isolated iran's regional status is much greater than before and iran inside the country is very united thanks basically to trump's behavior and i think that countries like russia and china especially see the threat if they're successful in washington then i think that the russians and the chinese know who's next and the europeans i think in order to regain their dignity they have to make a stand so i'm optimistic in the long term but it will be difficult in the summer and it will see what happens in sochi today as i'm sure you well know i'm going to

call it a meeting with the russian president vladimir putin and saw you today rumored to be discussing the iran nuclear deal so we'll see how that turns out a side mohammad marandi politics professor at the university of tehran many thanks . or not see what i've got now explains how e.u. u.s. tights have deteriorated over the iran. but no arguing with it america and europe had something special a relationship unlike any other they did everything together condemned rogue regimes slapped naughty countries with sanctions they even wanted to get we have a very strong relationship with our friends and partners our friends in the u.s. administration we have a really great relationship blow through and allies and this is this very special relationship this is us almost too good to be true and it seems it was

money trumps all now that america has unilaterally pulled out of the nuclear deal with iran it could start sanctioning european states companies that haven't the to do business with iran e.u. leaders merkel mack on others tried to change trump's mind with love. graduations and i think a great victory. i . think you. except love has nothing on money europeans of facing american sanctions that's not very nice is it not something friends would do looking at the latest decisions of president. bush that.

europe has had enough they stand to lose cash because of america and they won't let that happen. to do the work as the european commission we have the duty to protect european companies. we now need to act and this is why we're launching the process of activating the blocking statute from one thousand nine hundred six. what you're a business doing is using a statute initially developed to circumvent washington's trade embargo on cuba the law basically protects european states from laws or sanctions implemented outside of europe you can see a political resolution look at america's new ambassador to germany hours after being confirmed he threatens german companies as donald trump said u.s. sanctions will target critical sectors of ron's economy german companies doing

business in iran should wind down operations immediately my advice after a long ambassadorial career explain your country's policies and lobby the host country but never tell the host country what to do if you want to stay out of trouble germans are eager to listen but they will resent instructions from us bully boy tactics haven't gone down well in europe the block is finally showing its teeth so. we differ on this subject as all of us is a trading sovereignty over europe and what we demand is to be exempted without any conditions and limits that you can't. do we want to be able to be blinded to what americans tell you or do we want us europeans to say economic interests move want to have economic relations with russia what can you say every relationship has its bumps it's just that some bumps and didn't divorce. this

breaking news just coming in here at r.t. international former russian spies sort of who was poisoned with a nerve agent in the u.k. has been discharged from hospital yes daughter were admitted on march the fourth after exposure to a substance known as not a truck in the city of souls break. was released from hospital. last month with her whereabouts being kept well a secret so to get a script as a former russian intelligence agent who was stripped of his rank over spying for the u.k. off to being jailed for thirteen years he was pardoned and flown to england where he has lived this since twenty ten after the poison attack and british and european officials very quickly pointed the finger at russia that moscow has denied any and all involvement.

while it would be wrong to prejudge the investigation i can reassure the house that should evidence emerge that implies state responsibility then the majesty's government will respond appropriately. robustly. the government has concluded that it is highly likely that russia was responsible for the act against segue into the script. that can be no suggestion of business as usual in relation to our interaction with russia mr speaker this action has happened against a backdrop of

angela merkel is visiting the russian president vladimir putin what is expected for the discussions today and into trying to reports angela merkel is getting together with vladimir putin basically just days after donald trump said goodbye to the iranian nuclear deal and perhaps that is a good reason for the two leaders who both want the green light to stay no matter want to have a conversation about it and add it to their usual ukraine syria agenda that's a mistake i think it's not right to can let's really cancel a deal that was agreed upon that was unanimously approved in the u.n. security council that diminishes confidence in the international order so donald trump's deal exit almost automatically meant that american sanctions against iran were coming back and german business leaders who thanks to the iranian agreement in the first place had rushed to do business there even asked the chancellor to

protect their economic interests similar calls have been heard as a result of reports in the us media that suggested that the american president has really been pushing the german government to abandon the north's training to gas pipeline project for the direct deliveries of russian natural gas to europe reportedly mr trump's administration even threatened to reconsider the trade agreement with the european union going back to the upcoming summit in saud she told side said they weren't going to bring up and tell you russian sanctions but we do understand that they may be mentioned as soon as ukraine is mentioned speaking of syria just a few days ago while addressing the bundestag the german chancellor said. the conflict there cannot be resolved without involving all colleen's with partners internationally but for some reason she didn't mention the us intervention is all

that was the same as against the russian president likes to drink german beer and sometimes there is a possibility that we can exchange i've also gotten very good small. angela from time to time sends me a couple more for president of the peace. now when it comes to the iran nuclear deal in particular german politicians believe emma says russia and germany share a common interest. in. together was such an federation and seeing nuclear played he was he of on and nations under the umbrella of united nations and therefore i think we have a common interest so the germans and xylophones and us of the chinese and i was us the flames as a but to keep the pain he was to be alone we share a common in close with us and for the nation and so far i'm saying we expect.

in germany if these there's a might be oh it certainly goes out of this meeting. with an unprecedented meeting between the u.s. and north korean leaders shuttled for june both sides are hoping to get the most out of the upcoming talks combining promises and threats donald trump is clearly pursuing a carrot and stick approach with pyongyang we make a deal i think kim jong un is going to be very very happy i really believe he's going to be very happy and he'll get protections that will be very strong his country would be very rich is people are tremendously industrious if you look at south korea this would be really a south korean model in terms of their industry in terms of what they do the hard work an incredible people do you have to remember that for the last several decades donald trump has been very well known as a businessman he actually wrote a book
11:46 am
a best selling book called the art of the deal so we shouldn't be surprised to see donald trump out front promising all kinds of riches to north korea if they agree to his deal and furthermore we shouldn't be surprised with him indicating that things might not be so rosy if they don't go along with it i think when john bolton made that statement. yeah i think that's what denuclearization means and we have very much in mind the libyan model from two thousand and three two thousand and four he was talking about if we're going. to be having a problem because we cannot let that country have nukes we just can't do it the model if you look at that model with gadhafi that was a total decimation we went in there to beat him now that model would take place if we don't make a deal most likely to be a was the most prosperous country on the african continent until two thousand and eleven the government was overthrown and the country has been in a state of civil war ever sense you know people are fleeing it's just in utter

chaos by bringing that up that's certainly a threat both sides are are playing it hard both sides are trying to see if they can get what they want out of the deal recently heard north korea threatening to pull out of the negotiations over the provocative military exercises that are taking place in south korea for a long time these drills have been taking place and they're essentially a rehearsal according to north korea for invading this is a provocative military exercise you have the u.s. forces there north korea is threatening that they might pull out so we're seeing both north korea and the united states kim jong un and donald trump you know playing a hard negotiation game in the lead up to this planned meeting just about wraps up this friday program here when aleksey international but so much breaking news coming into this channel this afternoon my colleague andrew fama coming here to mount a helmet half an hour's time to continue bringing you your worldwide headlines.

summit or no summit that's the question north korea's threat of a no show in singapore on june twelfth is a reminder to washington that north korea will not merely cave to american demands if there's going to be an agreement it's going to take time and patience. donald trump has newfound concern for protecting jobs in china what's behind the president's rhetoric on the controversial china company's e.t.e. we'll take a look at that on this edition of politic. politicking on larry king donald trump campaigned on making america great again and one crucial vote for workers in the u.s. rust belt with his relentless criticism of unfair trade deals with china made by
11:50 am
his predecessors but in a presidential tweet monday mr trump pledged to rescue controversial chinese telecom giant z t e saying the company's failure would cost too many jobs in china what's behind the president's decision let's talk about that with chris lu who served as white house cabinet secretary and deputy secretary of labor during the obama administration and he's now a city. in the lower center he joins us from washington d.c. chris on wednesday president trump tweeted that his reversal on the chinese companies e t e pertains to a logic trade deal. and the accused the washington post and c.n.n. are running full stories about his delusions was china what do you make of that not sure what to make of it and i think a lot of people in washington and around the world are scratching their head let's recall this was all started by
11:51 am
a tweet from the president himself saying that he was going to be working with president xi to resolve this is e.t.e. issue and it's a complicated one and has to do with a company a telecommunications companies e t a that was found to have violated the sanctions and having done business with iran and north korea and appropriately the united states took action against this company so it's curious that the president is getting involved in an foresman matter but there are a lot of implications here there's national security there is obviously trade issues and then there's north korea wrapped into all of this i think the president thinks that by resolving the c.t.e. issue which is an important one to the chinese government he can hope to untangle the other disputes that we're in with china but it remains to be seen whether he can do that or not is it confusing to you. it's incredibly confusing to me i mean obviously this is a president who pledged to make america great again he is appropriately taking
11:52 am
action against china for trade imbalances for their festive intellectual property and now to have done a one eighty on one of the culprits when it comes to. bad trading practices when it comes to potential national security issues i think is puzzling and it's one of the reasons why there has been bipartisan al cry about this matter. is not seen china's demands yet. what demands could what is that about right you know that the u.s. and the chinese have been involved in trade negotiations over the last couple of weeks and they're trying to ratchet down not only the rhetoric but this escalating series of tariffs that the u.s. is imposing on the chinese goods china in particular is imposing on us agricultural products and i think what the president is trying to do is to figure out where c.t.e. is in this negotiations and whether resolving the c.t.e.
11:53 am
matter will help resolve these other trade matters but again it's anyone's guess as to how we got into this dispute because it was really started by the president's tweet a couple of days ago before the game president trumpeted on my show quite a bit on c.n.n. on this program and he also always ruled against china the china was beating us that in return he would change that all around has that changed well look i mean he has taken tough measures are threatened tough measures against the chinese and that's how we are on the brink of what looks to be a trade war and that's what makes this reversal on c.t.e. so curious because it's at such strong odds with not only the rhetoric that trump had during the campaign but really for decades he's been very concerned about the chinese and obviously part of this is north korea as well president trump has.
11:54 am
said that he has a good relationship with the chinese president obviously having a good relationship is critical to reaching a settlement north korea so that's obviously a play here as well. the a lot of jobs in the united states of this right yeah i mean a large chinese telecommunications company there are many u.s. telecommunications companies technology companies that are suppliers to z.t. so there are jobs that are affected here but relative to the overall u.s. china trade balance it's small i mean what the bigger issue that's at stake right now is the chinese threats to put tariffs on us poor u.s. soybeans and that will have a significant impact on farmers in the midwest many of whom are trump supporters. what is north korea's role in all is well look obviously getting the north korea
11:55 am
situation resolved will require not only the cooperation of south korea japan but especially china which is north korea's strongest supporter at this period of time and i think what the president is trying to do is to ratchet down the trade pressures with the chinese in an effort to secure greater cooperation with the chinese with regard to north korea and again so there's many moving pieces in all of this and whether all these pieces can come together is it remains to be unseen at this point remains to be seen at this point now we hear from north korea the not going to discuss doing away with the nuclear weapons do you think to some it's in trouble you know i don't think we know at this point yet but i think people who have observed north korea over the decades have seen this familiar pattern where they seem to make movements towards peaceful resolution of disputes and then they back away at the last minute you know and what we have seen over the last couple of
11:56 am
weeks even as the summit has gotten scheduled is that there still is a dispute between the north koreans and the united states in the south koreans about what it means to have denuclearization of the korean peninsula the likelihood that north korea would give up all of their nuclear weapons i think was not realistic you know and so again you know we're still a couple weeks away from the summit so i think a lot of things can happen between now and then but as kim jong un says that's almost a table that will not be discussed should trump go to the summit. you know look i i i'm one of these people who police their value of talking but i think what campbell watts at this point is the legitimacy to be seen as a world leader and i think having the u.s. president sitting down with him without having a clear path to moving forward on some of these contentious issues i think is very
11:57 am
dangerous unless there is a genuine one genuine willingness on the part of the north koreans to resolve this denuclearization issue chris is always thank you for your time thank you for having me to summit or not to summit can the united states save the planned summer meeting between donald trump and kim jong un and what political price of any will trump pay for acknowledging reimbursement to attorney michael cohen so the payoff to porn star stormy daniels lots to talk about with my political panel and let's get to it there jose aires demonio former deputy national press secretary of the democratic party he joins us from washington and in new york amy holmes now co-host of the p.b.s. show in principle and a former staffer to senate majority leader bill frist and music conservative independent we'll talk midterm soon but first what's going to happen with the
11:58 am
summit jose will there be a summit. look i certainly hope that there is one larry said this from the very beginning that. it was a mistake from for the president to call this a victory i hope that he happens because we all want. possible talks and we want to make sure that north korea eventually the nuclear crisis but you know we've got to make sure that the president and his team. talk to kim hopefully it happens in june and look in my know be a full denuclearization of the beginning we might have to find a middle ground or a cap on the missiles and such other things so it's tricky north korea's tricky but i've had it from the very beginning it was a mistake for president come to call this a historic deal that was about to happen when in fact there is a lot more diplomacy that needs to happen any mr plum taylor said they said when he
11:59 am
came back from north korea that they're wonderful are cooperating on everything and then they say the nuclear then the destroy the nuclear weapons is off the table they will not discuss that what do you think is going to happen. well look i think planning a summit with kim jong un was always going to be risky business with my show in principle on p.b.s. we actually interviewed former secretary of defense don rumsfeld and asked him his thoughts and his you know any progress we can make is positive but again when you are trying to negotiate with the dictator of the hermit kingdom there's always going to be risk involved who and what is going to make the difference we need to look at china we need to look at russia and what pressure they may might bring to bear to make this summit happen and of course there is the turret term nuclear as t.v. clearly. the north koreans versus what that means to the rest of the world community and that all needs to be sorted out but i would like to point out that there seems
12:00 pm
to be some good cop bad cop going on when it comes to aardman history sion and the way that we're trying to deal with kim jong un you remember donald trump president trying to tweets calling him calling kim jong un a little rocket man and that he's a maniac and he's a madman and at the time trump's critics saying you're to be starting world war three with those tweets well as it turns out kim jong un he understands the schoolyard he understands top's and that might have been kind of a way to break through to him and again play good cop bad cop to get him to that negotiating table there's still a lot of time between now and june thinkers cross that it doesn't blow up metaphorically so to speak between now and then but any little bit of progress is a good thing and by the way mr rumsfeld will be on the show on politicking next week jose. the bad cop now he is saying i don't want to sit down if you're going to talk about the new.
