italy and the commission in brussels italy's fate does not lie in the hands of the financial markets regardless of which political party may be in power italy is a founding member of the european union that has contributed immensely to european integration the commission is ready to work with italy with responsibility and mutual respect italy deserves respect as i said those elections in italy could come as soon as september and between now one polling day are sure to be a lot of people keeping an eye on what comments are coming out of brussels with regards to which feet which direction italy should proceed in the future. well here a skeptic coalition failed to form a government of the italian president rejected their choice of finance minister who was seen as anti european the president then appointed a pro europe prime minister says your mother eleanor has since granted italy's two populist leaders more time to form a government to stave off a snap election when the five star movement m.e.p.

belong to them and i'm referring to germany of course because for example the what the commissioner appointed by the german government to say yes that mr going courting or said that to the markets to teach italians how to war as i was mentioning before we cannot accept that we are going to play the role of be calling me of some other counties. donald trump has repeatedly called the investigation into alleged collusion with russia a witch hunt but according to one democrat that's a move straight out of the kremlin's playbook. explains according to a top democrat in congress if you use the term which on to and you say it over and over and over again which which are and which you may be a dupe of the kremlin listen to maxine waters talk about trump he's a lying about which but you notice he says which over and over again he has learned some of the russian tactics about how you you know deal with getting people to
12:33 am
believe you you say it over and over again so repeating something over and over and over again is a russian thing that may not be the wisest thing for the democrats to say they've had the same song on repeat for roughly two years russia has hacked into a lot of things the criminal clan russia was meddling in our election russia undermined hillary clinton to over russian hacking operation have taken place by russians intelligence committee says that russia is behind this in some form its goal to do with russia and of course ian brown sugar rush is a russian so if trump invented the term which why did the democrats use that exact same term back in the one nine hundred ninety s. when bill clinton's sex scandal was all over the headlines smells like a double standard to me speaking of double standards remember how the democrats pounded the podium against gina haskell the new cia chief there are two reasons that i oppose this nomination miss haskel support for torture and her willingness
12:34 am
to destroy evidence of the cia's use of torture and i have serious concerns about. her confirmation and what kind of signal sent this lady is the real do i'm telling you we're here with everything we possibly think she answered didn't flinch at all well it turns out that while this controversial interrogation program was going on democrats in congress were getting briefings the entire time and did nothing about it and now after the dog and pony show at the hearings is over gina haskell is getting the job and why is gina haskell the new cia chief because two democrats voted for him and tell. committee looks poised to indorse president trump's pick to head the cia gina haskell today this clears to pass her confirmation of cia director if she gained support from democrat senate democrats back when she was secretary of state hillary clinton was always criticizing countries around the world for their human rights record she even pushed obama to send cruise missiles
12:35 am
to libya back in two thousand and eleven supposedly to defend human rights yet at the same time her personal foundation the clinton foundation had no problem getting donations from the very countries that she was criticizing and sooty arabia giving twenty five billion dollars are all of these countries you talk about women are women's rights so these are people that push gays office buildings these are people that kill women and treat women horribly and yet you take their money so the democrats talk one way and act another i'm not sure where we're finding all these russian tactics they're constantly making reference to because they seem to be practicing double standards all along been r.t. new york. seven new songs since the start of the war in syria is it finally coming to an end and does the country's president have a nickname for donald trump ati's what i guess they have met special assignment and here's a preview of his exclusive interview. if anything the syrian civil war

12:41 am
a bit funny you know way you know that most of my court decides who is a good journalist and it was a bad one but the problem is that we are getting deeper into this system of organizing to news the press is not welcome in the immediate environment of jupiter mccloy doesn't want the press any more the four presidents were accompanied by several camera oneself journalists are going to watch them sometimes so this child will sometimes this other channel and people will welcome at press conferences this is finished now he has his own cameras and it is edited the pictures are edited before they are given to the real press so that the press doesn't like it they don't like being manipulated by mr michael. president trump has appointed a new u.s. military chief in afghanistan after general austin miller becomes the eighteenth commander in seventeen years since the u.s. invasion despite the high turnover the latest us watchdog report says the campaign
12:42 am
has brought little good afghanistan. it is good. and some in afghanistan had hoped america's presence would show in a new period of peace and stability have paid a heavy price as an american on explains back in august twenty sixth an afghan man named his son after donald trump but that was before television for the white house
12:43 am
now after being inspired by trump's business achievements outlined his books the afghan man hope that giving his son the same name would bring about the same sort of luck but in the us we're very happy to name our child off to the best politician and i hope he will become a politician like donald trump as well i gave my son this name to make him lucky and i want to see him is smart and mindful and story but that's backfired miserably the family was driven out of their hometown because his community took issue with the child's non muslim name now he's for courted lee fled afghanistan after seeing the reaction to my son's name and also the taliban directed assassination of the man who will boarded president trouble medal i don't feel safe this comes after the taliban assassinated one of the afghan men who minted a gold medal honoring the us president back in january gold in the b. and his friend a far hog barri raise money to produce a special gift for donald trump to thank the state department for a toughened stance on fox thought we are suspending security assistance security
12:44 am
assistance only to pakistan at this time in. till the pakistani government takes decisive action against groups including the afghan taliban goal nobody was killed by the taliban and that's according to a taliban spokesperson sadly appreciation for donald trump isn't exactly body armor his friend who was involved in producing the medal for a bari now fears for his life and he blames that washington for failing to protect them. the americans are all friends and can help us in fact we were deceived because we thought the americans really appreciates all work and our intentions we thought the u.s. is a superpower and values friendship but it doesn't nearly seventeen years ago the u.s. invaded afghanistan to eradicate terrorism but after all these years to even those who still have trust in washington it seems that it can't be protected so american on our team washington d.c. . a british american investor who is wanted in russia for tax fraud was briefly
12:45 am
detained in spain on wednesday before being released. as the details. in december of last year bill browder was sentenced by a moscow court to nine years in prison for fraud and tax evasion back in the ninety's browder was one of the biggest foreign investors in russia but everything eventually went south and his firm was investigated for tax fraud earlier today he tweeted that he had been arrested by spanish police in madrid showing a picture of the arrest warrant which listed fraud as the criminal charge shortly after however he posted that he had been released claiming interpol advised the spanish national police to not honor the red notice which is essentially an international arrest warrant and accused russia of abusing the international police organization but for their part interpol has said there never has been such a notice for broader and spanish police said the warrant they have on file simply turned out to no longer be valid adding broader was not arrested today simply detained rather may have been making assumptions based on past situations where
12:46 am
interpol refused to enforce russian warrants for him doing them politically motivated something moscow denies there's a long history between russia and broader and he is the man behind the u.s. magnitsky act a law that blacklist russian officials accused of corruption or human rights violations it's named after sergei magnitsky who worked for broader corporation and was arrested and found dead in his moscow prison cell in two thousand and nine ever since broader has condemned the russian government and sought to hold as many people responsible for magnitsky death as possible. russian of natalia based on it's meet again is the magnitsky act in the media she's better known for meeting don't chum's campaign officials back in twenty sixteen she thinks is using his arrest to get back into the media spotlight. just because this is not us it's true that russia has several times sent in the arrest warrant to enter paul and brought his name was added to the database however he was later excluded with the
12:47 am
completely inconceivable explanation of political repression of course no evidence was ever presented to back that up and this case i think it was an internal warrant which could have been issued by spanish police on russia's request but how could browder have known that interpol secretary general personally asked the spanish police not to order russia's arrest warrant it's either a made up farce well he's suspiciously well informed it suggests that this could have been an orchestrated the our stunt like with his previous detention in geneva or when he had his us visa and not as he has a big team of journalists p.r. specialists and the tech tips working for him. well for more on these and plenty of other stories that go to our website often one is all about the latest headlines at the top of the hour either.

part children and thank you for joining us coming up on the broadcast as we've discussed oil prices have surged to the highest levels in over three years last week but since then we've seen a nearly ten percent slide from seventy three dollars to around sixty eight dollars today per barrel why and what's next the founder of peak prosperity dot com chris martenson will join us to help figure it out plus the key component of energy is of course pipelines alex small highland bitch bills us in from toronto on an interesting and very important development up north and the ongoing tussle with china over trade tariffs and sanctions gypped takes another ruckus we're out with a new u.s. statement that has surprised chinese negotiators they've had some harsh words plus members of president donald trump own political party are squaring off in opposition to mr trump's efforts to allow china's telecom giant c.t.e. to do business in the united states after the company violated u.s.
12:50 am
sanctions on iran and north korea conservative t.v. and radio host steve lol burns joins us to try and make some sense of this seeming insanity and what do you call someone who will lose seventeen thousand dollars in take this year i'll tell you before we go all that ahead but first let's get to a few headlines. there is new news that the u.s. will continue to press ahead with tariffs and restrictions on investment by chinese companies which is inflaming more trade war rhetoric the united states continues to threaten fifty billion dollars of increased tariffs on chinese imports on. unless beijing addresses the matter of theft of u.s. intellectual property and reduces the u.s. trade deficit with china what discussions have been ongoing between officials from both nations the stated goal of the trip of ministration to reduce the three
12:51 am
hundred seventy five billion dollar trade surplus with the united states remains a contentious problem u.s. commerce secretary wilbur ross is the next u.s. envoy to travel to china for negotiations that will head there on saturday meanwhile china's commerce ministry reacted swiftly overnight to the u.s. ante with a short statement saying quote the chinese government will have the necessary measures in place to deal with they would withdraw u.s. withdraw from any settled agreement if the u.s. wants to play games then china would be more than willing to play along and do so until the very end. antitrust regulators at the united states department of justice have approved bear a g.'s acquisition of months santo regulators did make approval of the merger of the german drug giant bear and one santo a u.s. based agriculture and biotech the home of contingent on bear selling off about nine
12:52 am
billion dollars in assets one of bear's peers b a s f s e agreed to buy the divest of assets those that sets notably include bear's pesticide unit branded as liberty which competes directly with months sent to maker of the herbicide life of say sold under the name roundup other divest of assets are related areas such as seed canola and cotton the potential for creation of a new market influence and even monopoly power from a combination of these agriculture related assets with monsanto's has been the primary objection of regulators in both the united states and in the european union . u.s. drug seller purdue pharma may be facing more legal trouble due to their very profitable and highly addictive opioid products oxy caught. and its predecessor and s. cotton marketed the drug products as having less risk for addiction abuse than other opiates do to their time release formula they did so with express authorization
12:53 am
from the u.s. drug enforcement administration after oxy cotton was approved for sale in one nine hundred ninety five but a newly discovered justice department report documents at purdue was actually aware of the reports that oxy cotton n m s cotton tablets were being sought out by drug abusers criminals and addicted people and resold on the street for up to forty dollars per pill the justice department says the report says that members of the secular family which owns peru richard raymond and mortimer sackler were directly informed of the problems general counsel howard you dealt previously testified before congress that the corporation was unaware of the problems until two thousand two hundred thousand people have died from prescription opioid over deusen overdoses in the past twenty years. last week and the summer driving season started in the united states as folks are
12:54 am
taking to the highways but filling up gas tanks this summer is expected to be more costly than it has been since two thousand and fourteen oil prices are far ahead of where they were just a year ago and just below fifty dollars a bit at just below fifty dollars a barrel today west texas intermediate was trading in the upper sixty dollars range but that's down almost ten percent from just a week ago and brant crude traded and wanted topped eighty dollars a few weeks ago trading in the upper seventy's today what does it all mean here to help sort it out is the founder of peak prosperity dot com chris martenson chris we thank you for being with us you're always so great to join us there was news out of the st petersburg economic forum last week that the saudis and the russians may actually increase oil production after holding production down with the other opec members what's the latest on that. well this is a really interesting development in that seemingly russia and saudi arabia have
12:55 am
decided on their own or together to you know talk about upping the output targets for both of them the rest of opec was not really part of that discussion and of course is going to create a very contentious opec meeting coming up and this is very unusual for saudi arabia to go out of the opec fold like this and remember it wasn't that long ago they were sort of enemies with with russia here they are making a very important announcement together they talked about a million barrels per day possibly wink wink is a whisper number that helped to really drive the price of oil down neither of them really want to see that the long term. well to some extent chris i guess they might say that it took a while but that it actually worked to get prices higher they said i think not even long ago maybe six weeks ago they'd be happy with you know the upper seventy's eighty dollars oil and they're very close to that do you think that the iranian sanctions will play into the opec production issue i noticed that india said that.
12:56 am
there are a large oil importer of iranian oil that they may have some concerns what about that well this is a very different conversation from the one we might have had a year ago where there was a structural oversupply of oil now we're at just about fully balance right now with signs that we're going to be slipping into under-supply going forward complex discussion because we have to talk about different grades of oil shale oil can't fill all of that gap and you can't take iran offline without creating real difficulties for parts of europe and india as you mentioned in response to those sanctions what we already seen chinese firms and russian from stepping into iran so very complex field right here but the simple answer is that as the world cannot afford to have a rainy an oil come off line right now i think that's part of the statement from russia and saudi arabia saying hey we could fill that gap. yeah and the totality share they're getting out of that natural gas area what the pars eleven i forget
12:57 am
what it's called sars pars eleven something but you're right i've never read that a chinese company may be going in there to take that share that brings to another opec member not people people may not understand that venezuela also part of opec and used to be a major part but their productions been going down a lot what about venezuelans a decrease in production chris how does that play into this well it factors in quite a lot they've lost you know almost a million barrels a day in just the past year that's a lot to go down it really looks like it's collapsing at this point time of course venezuela is experiencing near complete social chaos and not just in the oil business so whether that i expect that to continue going down that venezuelan oil is going to come out of the fold and here's where the story we've got to get a little bit detailed with it venezuela's producing a kind of oil which is a heavy oil and that ships in large measure to u.s. refineries which are geared for that kind of oil heavy oil the shale oil that's
12:58 am
coming out right now the u.s. refineries are not geared for it they're probably already fully saturated with any additional games and shale oil doesn't help the u.s. refining situation all that much. chris you want to have your back we have a little bit more time to talk about what these higher prices might mean for us drivers and whether or not that all increase demand and then what will have to do with production but that's it for this time chris martenson founder of pick prosperity dot com thank you so much for joining us you're welcome bart. and time for a brief pause but chang out because when we return could joining with the topic of energy alex mann hile of edge fills us in on interesting develop up north regarding a free trip a really important pipeline and the ongoing tussle with china takes yet another turn or perhaps to this time president troposphere is to have gone too far and is losing support among those within his own political party conservative t.v. and radio host steve wallace joins us to help make sense of it and before we go
12:59 am
