five nuclear powers are now directly engaged in military action in syria each determined to win or salvage what they can on the ground which makes the perfect ground for an escalation an escalation that no one wants but one that nobody would be able to control in the exclusive interview with r.t. syrian president bashar al assad has shared his thoughts on the coming future on the precarious dangerous and fragile months ahead and on the endgame of this devastating war the question is in who is interest is it to gas opposition to you the most part of the answer in whose interest the question is it in our interest why and why you know because the timing of this alleged to strike was after the victory of the syrian troops in goodwill let alone the fact
8:31 am
that we don't have chemical weapons anyway and let the other folks that we're not going to use it because the old people because the but the new theory was about winning the heart of the three billion the main battle and we want it so how can you use chemical weapons against civilians that you want them to have to be supportive to the first second if you want to use it listen for that you have it in want to use it do you use it after you finish the battle or before or during this is popular because second if you go to that area it was very clear and by our means by factions in by syrians we never use such armaments or weapons that are going to harm everyone something that didn't happen and if you go to that area and you ask the civilians there was no chemical attack me or anyone. even the westen. list who when did after. google was liberated
8:32 am
this it we are the people of this we need we didn't see any chemical attack it was enough to if it was just pretext in order to attack syria you can watch the full interview with the syrian president all day long here at r.t. international otherwise at your own leisure online at r.t. talk. so a new artificial intelligence tool created by the university of southern california could potentially predict if a protest is going to turn violent by analyzing social media activity the program at allies eighteen million twitter posts four moralized language during the twenty fifteen protests against police brutality in the u.s. city of baltimore turns out there was a correlation between the number of arrests and the use of birth this kind of language moralized doubled just prior to violent protest ai tool detects
8:33 am
phrases evoking moral emotions such as i care fairness and loyalty is an example of it in action why does the opposition speak only bad black and black crime as a rebuttal to police brutality all murder all crime matches right. regardless of how anyone feels pres to the police force in the family. in another study scientists polled around two hundred people on whether they condone the use of violence during the twenty seventeen clashes in the us city of charlottesville that was over the removal of some confederate monuments they found out that people were more likely to condone the use of violence if others shared their views or futurist great scott believes the violence of protest is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what artificial intelligence will eventually be able to predict. i think we're going to see more of this sort of predictive analytic behavior from ai in the future as ai develops so for example there is
8:34 am
a new study that came out in front two years in human neuro science that shows that ai can predict behavior and traits just by looking at people dilation and eye movements so what's happening is that date we have more data point cell from social media but also from just the fact that we're quantifying ourselves in quantifying our society we have more data points and so the ai will be able to use that that set of data those data points to predict their behaviors and that's really the key in this story is is will the machines of the future be able to predict our behaviors before we even know what we're thinking and i think the answer is yes still plenty of stories coming your way on the program here on oxy international including america is being sued by iran will shut some light on that in a moment. it's.

thanks for showing a time with us here on our teeth an activist from the u.k.'s rightwing english defense league tommy robinson has been arrested for contempt of court however we cannot share any more details with the ongoing trial because of a so-called gag order by the u.k. government which prevents any reporting on the case here's a quick look at whether this could amount to a lot of censorship. you may be surprised to see the media not covering something like the arrest of a prominent figure ten nothing more about them again or at least for a while and yes while sometimes outlets just lose interest altogether more often than not it's a gagging order the stops any coverage dead in its tracks getting orders of best
8:37 am
described as illegal order by coastal government restricting said new information from being made public soon on the fire escape. it was first introduced in the u.k. under the contempt of court hangs of nine hundred eighty one why well to make sure media coverage publications all rampant speculation doesn't impede or skew the courts integrity wendy the case the same measures applied to keep safe any confidential corporate data being used as possibly investigation or just to protect the identity of victims all mine is involved but there's also another side to this measure many human rights advocates have been voicing concern that the save gagging order might be in place when the government has a stake in this specific case like in two thousand and six when the shipping company trafigura paid a local operating dispose of waste in ivory coast and when eighty five thousand people sought medical help a generous and trained secret memos detailing what was actually dumped in the water
8:38 am
but a super injunction was issued frantically banning the publication of this information then leaks by wiki leaks anyway prompting a parliamentary debate and legal action against trafigura as well for the secret trial of the london student accused of carrying a major terror acts back in twenty fifth he took office the team's acquitted of all charges and released nobody said anything about it everybody has shifted from ever speaking about seeing the full of the truth for all intents and purposes to gagging what is self mind to spin move the trial see conspiracy in the press. opec. member iran is seeking support from the organization of petroleum exporting countries and getting the latest u.s. sanctions lifted but that's not the only way to iran is looking to protect itself it is also now suing washington for its involvement in terror attacks in iran last year citing donald trump as a key witness at mufon as more details now the crimes of the ice still terrorist

have four or five people all over the world many people want justice to be served currently the islamic republic of iran is preparing a legal case but against washington it's based on allegations that the usa was involved in the terrorist attacks in tehran in twenty seventeen which i still claimed responsibility for. that lawsuit might seem a little farfetched but they've got some pretty solid testimony here's the president of the united states on national t.v. isis is honoring. president obama he is the founder
8:40 am
of isis he's the founder of isis i think will give hillary clinton the you know if you're a sports team most valuable player m.v.p. you get the m.v.p. award i says will hand her the most valuable player award her only competition is barack obama now perhaps this was just a figure of speech maybe he meant that washington's irresponsible foreign policy decisions had resulted in the terrorist group emerging it said the president with the founder of isis i know what you meant you meant that he created the vacuum he lost the p.r. bit he's the founder of isis i do and there could be some more high level witnesses and a potential washington versus tehran case this is senator rand paul from kentucky had the president had his way or had hillary clinton had her way we may well have had isis in charge in damascus now because they've been arming and creating a safe haven for them as it is i think isis is more of a threat to us now because of the arming of the islamic rebels in syria iran is
8:41 am
lawsuit may actually come across as a counter claim that it was the u.s. that originally took iran to court for alleged involvement in the nine eleven attacks the coos decision is unacceptable and we reject it is not a new mockery of the system of international law but also more clear to the american people especially the victims of the september eleventh attacks and the families now the nine eleven commission found no evidence of any iranian involvement in the attacks the report simply states that the hijackers had traveled to iran without having their passport stamped it's a pretty tough sell but the u.s. courts bought it now as for iran's case we'll have to see if trump's word is actually a guarantee for success to be fair if donald trump's word is enough there's certainly a lot of criminal cases that need to be reopened remember what he said about ted cruz's father his father was with lee harvey oswald prior to ours where he's being . you know shot at so with all these. strong word of allegations that donald trump

likes to make maybe the bow tie me get a disguise a fake name and hide out in the witness protection program. r.t. new york we spoke to political columnist ted rall who believes tehran these days is better at winning the hearts and minds iran is teaching advantage of the fact that the united states doesn't have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to accusing other countries of supporting terrorism this is about pure politics and public relations in iran for those who have been paying attention i think has been winning that game that particularly is true given the fact that the truck administration recently called the iran nuclear deal unilaterally which did not make the us look very good certainly true to people who've been paying attention that the u.s. did have a role in the rise of isis it's a little simplistic to say that the us created isis that's not quite true but it
8:43 am
certainly is true that when the civil war in syria began against president assad that the united states poured money and weapons into the hands of what would eventually become isis so did the united states create isis not exactly but the united states certainly played a contributing role. the u.s. brand of course medics is under fire after release to tauriel for its muslim clients on what to wear what kind of makeup to wear during ramadan apparently it's best to do it before the traditional priest sunrise meal known as opposed to who're . i can barely open my eyes were mac comes out was glamorous look what mike think.

this is boom bust broadcasting around. world this time from new york city i'm barred children and thank you for joining us coming up on the broadcast as we discuss oil prices have surged to the highest levels in over three years last week but since then we've seen a nearly ten percent slide from seventy three dollars to around sixty eight dollars today per barrel why and what's next the founder of peak prosperity dot com chris martenson will join us to help figure it out but the key component of energy is of course pipelines and alex one hyla vich builds us in from toronto on an interesting

and very important development up north and the ongoing tussle with china over trade tariffs and sanctions just takes another ruckus round with a new u.s. statement that has surprised chinese negotiators they've had some harsh words plus members of president donald trump's own political party are squaring off in opposition to mr trump's efforts to allow china's telecom giant c.t.e. to do business in the united states after the company violated u.s. sanctions on iran and north korea conservative t.v. and radio host steve longford joins us to try and make some sense of this seeming insanity and what do you call someone who will lose seventeen thousand dollars in take this year i'll tell you before we go all that ahead but first let's get to a few headlines.
8:51 am
there is new news that the u.s. will continue to press ahead with tariffs and restrictions on investment by chinese companies which is inflaming more trade war rhetoric the united states continues to threaten fifty billion dollars of increased tariffs on chinese imports unless beijing addresses the matter of theft of u.s. intellectual property and reduces the u.s. trade deficit with china while discussions have. then ongoing between officials from both nations the stated goal of the trumpet ministration to reduce the three hundred seventy five billion dollar trade surplus with the united states remains a contentious problem u.s. commerce secretary wilbur ross is the next u.s. envoy to travel to china for negotiations that will head there on saturday meanwhile china's commerce ministry reacted swiftly overnight to the up u.s. ante with a short statement saying quote the chinese government will have the necessary measures in place to deal with they would withdraw a u.s.
8:52 am
withdraw from any settled agreement if the u.s. wants to play games then china would be more than willing to play along and do so until the very end. antitrust regulators at the united states department of justice have approved bear a g.'s acquisition of monsanto regulators did make approval of the merger of the german drug giant bear and one santo a u.s. based agriculture and biotech the home of contingent on bear selling off about nine billion dollars in assets one of bear's peers b s f s e agreed to buy the divest of assets those that sets notably include bear's pesticide unit branded as liberty which competes directly with months sent to maker of the herbicide life of say sold under the name roundup other divest of assets are related areas such as seed canola and cotton the potential for creation of a new market influence and even monopoly power from
8:53 am
a combination of these agriculture related assets with monsanto those has been the primary objection of regulators in both the united states and in the european union . u.s. drug seller purdue pharma may be facing more legal trouble due to their very profitable and highly addictive opioid products oxy cotton and its predecessor m.s. cotton marketed the drug products as having less risk for addiction abuse than other opiates do. to their time release formula they did so with express authorization from the u.s. drug enforcement administration after oxy cotton was approved for sale in one nine hundred ninety five but a newly discovered justice department report documents at purdue was actually aware of the reports that oxy cotton n m s cut and tablets were being sought out by drug abusers criminals and addicted people and resold on the street for up to forty dollars per pill the justice department says the report says that members of the

secular family which owns purdue richard raymond and mortimer sackler were directly informed of the problems general counsel howard you dealt previously testified before congress that the corporation was unaware of the problems until two thousand two hundred thousand people have died from prescription opioid over deusen overdoses in the past twenty years. last week and the summer driving season started in the united states as folks are taking to the highways but filling up gas tanks this summer is expected to be more costly than it has been since two thousand and fourteen oil prices are far ahead of where they were just a year ago and just below fifty dollars a bit at just below fifty dollars a barrel today west texas intermediate was trading in the upper sixty dollars range but that's down almost ten percent from just a week ago and brant crude traded and wanted topped eighty dollars
8:55 am
a few weeks ago trading in the upper seventy's today what does it all mean here to help sort it out is the founder of peak prosperity dot com chris martenson chris we thank you for being with us you're always so great to join us there was news out of the st petersburg economic forum last week that the saudis and the russians may actually increase oil production after holding production down with the other opec members what's the latest on that. well this is a really interesting development in that seemingly russia and saudi arabia have decided on their own or together to you know talk about upping the output targets for both of them the rest of opec was not really part of that discussion and of course is going to create a very contentious opec meeting coming up and this is very unusual for saudi arabia to go out of the opec fold like this and remember it wasn't that long ago they were sort of enemies with with russia here they are making a very important announcement together they talked about a million barrels per day possibly wink wink is
8:56 am
a whisper number that helped to really drive the price of oil down neither of them really want to see that the long term. well to some extent chris i guess they might say that it took a while but that it actually worked to get prices higher they said i think not even long ago maybe six weeks ago they'd be happy with you know the seventy's eighty dollars oil and they're very close to that do you think that the iranian sanctions will play into the opec production issue i noticed that india said that. there are a large oil importer of iranian oil that they may have some concerns what about that well this is a very different conversation from the one we might have had a year ago where there was a structural oversupply of oil now we're at just about fully balance right now with signs that we're going to be slipping into under-supply going forward complex discussion because we have to talk about different grades of oil shale oil can't fill all of that gap and you can't take iran offline without creating real
8:57 am
difficulties for parts of europe and india as you mentioned in response to those sanctions what we already seen chinese firms and russian from stepping into iran so very complex field right here but the simple answer is that as the world cannot afford to have a reigning oil come off line right now i think that's part of the statement from russia and saudi arabia saying hey we could fill that gap. yeah and the totality of share they're getting out of that natural gas area what the pars eleven i forget what it's called sars pars eleven something but you're right i've never read that a chinese company may be going in there to take that share that brings to another opec member not people people may not understand that venezuela also part of opec and used to be a major part but their productions been going down a lot what about venezuelans a decrease in production chris how does that play into this well it factors in quite a lot they've lost you know almost a million barrels
8:58 am
a day in just the past year that's a lot to go down it really looks like it's collapsing at this point time of course venezuela is experiencing near complete social chaos and not just in the oil business so whether that i expect that to continue going down that venezuelan oil is going to come out of the fold and here's where the story we've got to get a little bit detailed with it venezuela's producing a kind of oil which is a heavy oil and that ships in large measure to u.s. refineries which are geared for that kind of oil heavy oil the shale oil that's coming out right now the u.s. refineries are not geared for it they're probably already fully saturated with it any additional games and shale oil doesn't help the u.s. refining situation all that much. chris you want to have your back we have a little bit more time to talk about what these higher prices might mean for us drivers and whether or not that'll increase demand and what will have to do with production but that's it for this time chris martenson founder of peak prosperity dot com thank you so much for joining us you're welcome bart. and
8:59 am
time for a brief pause but hang out because when we return continuing with the topic of energy alex mann hile of edge fills us in on interesting develop up north regarding a free trip a really important pipeline and the ongoing tussle with china takes yet another turn or perhaps to this time president from here is to have gone too far and is losing support among those within his own political party conservative t.v. and radio host steve wallace joins us to help make sense of it and before we go i'll tell you what you're called if you lose seventeen thousand dollars and pay this year and as we go to break here are the numbers at the closing break at the closing bell we'll be back at work.
9:00 am
well you know the cars they were kind of adopted because we were called pirates for so long. i mean they're in the smaller boats next to the hard pool of ships and it's. be a much tougher time to hit. the limo self did big cold fish already ninety percent of the dots on a ball in the conference. believe competition scoops seventy five times true and they do it several times a day with a clean collar you get an idea right ocean which. we have to understand.
