1:30 pm
that they are off limits when it comes to using them for propaganda purposes searchers trying to use a world cup to undermine the whole solution that goes north good to anyone especially entertainment you try it for me understanding. now the european court of human rights has ruled that lithuania and rumania participated in the cia's program of secret black site detentions and also violated the prohibition on top by helping the agency with the interrogation of to al qaeda terrorist suspects one of the suspects was according to the cia a key al qaeda figure no charges they were brought against him he was arrested in two thousand and two and is currently being held in guantanamo bay as part though of his interrogation he was water boarded eighty three times said he lost his life left eye during cia torture the other detainee was also captured in two thousand and two and subjected to the cia's enhanced interrogation program according to the
1:31 pm
cia he led arcadia's gulf region operations including the u.s.s. cole bombing seventeen american soldiers were killed and many more were injured hearings revealed the conditions under which the two day detainees were kept peter oliver has more. the applicants had been held in these facilities and the domestic authorities had been aware that the cia would subject them to treatment contrary to the convention what we have heard is a little bit about the conditions in which they were kept in lithuanian site we've gotten a little bit of a glimpse into what was going on there and how prisoners were held up this this hearing no it prisoners were kept in blindfolded all the time they were put in solitary confinement and they were forced to wear leg shackles at all times as a beta gave an account of what was done to him while he was in detention must warn viewers that this clip comes a company with some of the bed his own sketches that have been released as part of
1:32 pm
a freedom of information request some viewers may find them disturbing they unchained my hands from the bars and chained them with short chains to the chains that were around my legs which kept me in a bowing position at all times they brutally dragged me to the cement wall he started brutally banging my head in my back against the wall i felt my back was breaking due to the intensity of the banging he started slapping my face again and again meanwhile he was yelling and then he pointed to a large black wooden box that looked like a wooden casket he says from now on this is going to be your home he violently closed the door i heard the sound of the lock i found myself in total darkness. dor a few of them accompanying that clip just there but the sketches made world they really paying to very disturbing picture quite literally of the conditions in which he was being kept the two men are currently being held in guantanamo bay now since
1:33 pm
the detention facility opened there in two thousand and two it's been open to prisoners scandals over abuse now the current u.s. president donald trump peace supports that you solve waterboarding he said it many times however this is something that well the rest of the world pretty much considers torture. which by the way which by the way we are keeping open which we are keeping. and we're going to load it up with some beer dude split we're going to load it up would i feel strongly about waterboarding as far as i'm concerned we have to fight fire with in fact donald trump doubled down in his support for waterboarding as he promoted the woman who is in charge of the cia black sites to the top job in that agency gina hospital who's well referred to by her detractors in the media particularly here in germany as either the torture queen or bloody gina while she took over as the new cia director earlier this month.
1:34 pm
syria's president bashar al assad says that more u.s. strikes targeting the syrian government are possible during an exclusive interview he gave to r.t. is more aghast the assad also explained why he thinks it is wrong to call the conflict in his country a syrian civil war is some of what he said. the timing of this alleged strike was after the victory of the syrian troops. let alone the fact that we don't have chemical weapons in your way and let the other folks that we're not going to use it against old people because the that the new syria was about winning the heart of the civilians this is the main button and we want it so how can you use chemical weapons against civilians that you want them to have to be supportive to the second if you go to that area it was very clear and
1:35 pm
by armies by factions in by civilians we never use such armaments or weapons in that area are going to harm everyone something that didn't happen and if you go to that area and you ask this if there was no chemical attack me or anyone. word of it all is not according to what we have actually from the very beginning most unreasoned syrians and foreigners being paid by the whist in order to topple the government this is the reality of the myriad of the very stark reality everything else is just masks to cover the real intentions talking about the political differences moderate peaceful demonstration we don't have a civil war in syria if we had civil war so for seven years we should have been divided by now. even as
1:36 pm
a sunni myself i have a long distant relative who. came to syria to fight against you to resist you because he was told that you were targeting you were killing sunnis why is it that so many people in all these different countries in america in russia these sunni's these muslims they believe that you are oppressing because the first thought of when you started interned internationally mainly in the with of course their plan was to create this rift within the society that we make things easier for them when you have such a civil war kind of civil war between thinks or if this city and they feel now the keep using the same narrative at least to encourage some thread of the x. in different places in the world to come and defend their brothers. with regards to the united states' relation to would you president trump has called
1:37 pm
you quote animal asat do have a nickname for the u.s. president. this is not my language so i cannot truth similar language the. you to prevent him being the. no in principle but what you see is what you are three wanted to prevent or to if. you can watch the interview there in full with the syrian president throughout the day here on r.t. it's also available for you at our website at r.t. dot com still to come this hour america is being sued by around that story more just after the break.
1:38 pm
i played for many clubs over the years so i know the game inside out. football isn't only about what happens on the pitch pull the funnel school it's about the passion from the fans it's the age of the super money just kill you narrowness and spending two to twenty million on one player. it's an experience like nothing else not to because i want to share what i think of what i know about the beautiful guy great so will more chance for. the base this minute.
1:39 pm
oh again now a new artificial intelligence tool created by the university of southern california could potentially predict if a protest is going to turn violent by analyzing social media activity the program analyzed eighteen million twitter posts for moralize language during the twenty fifth in protest against police brutality in the u.s. city of baltimore it turns out there was a correlation between the number of arrests and also the use of this kind of language more lies tweets double just quieter violent protests the ai to detect phrases of oking more notions such as care fairness and also loyalty is an example of it in action. why does their position speak only bad luck on black crime as a rebuttal to police brutality or murder all crime matters right. regardless of how
1:40 pm
anyone feels pres to the police force in the family. well in another study scientists polled around two hundred people on whether they condone the use of violence during clashes last year in the u.s. it is charlottesville over the removal of confederate monuments and they found two that people were more likely to support the use of violence if others shared their views. good risk race got police violence or protests is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what artificial intelligence will eventually be able to predict. i think we're going to see more of this sort of predictive analytic behavior from ai in the future as ai develops so for example there is a new study that came out in front two years in human neuro science that shows that ai can predict behavior and traits just by looking at people dilation and eye movements so what's happening is that date we have more data points from social
1:41 pm
media but also from just the fact that we're quantifying ourselves and quantifying our society we have more data points and so the ai will be able to use that that set of data those data points to predict their behaviors and that's really the key in the story is is will the machines of the future be able to predict our behaviors before we even know what we're thinking and i think the answer is yes. opec member iran is seeking support from the organization in getting the latest u.s. sanctions lifted but that's not the only way to protect itself and to say see washington for its involvement in terrorist attacks in iran last year so i think donald trump is a key witness to kind of his mill. now the crimes of the i still terrorists have four or five people all over the world many people want justice to be served currently the islamic republic of iran is preparing
1:42 pm
a legal case but against washington it's based on allegations that the usa was involved in the terrorist attacks in tehran in twenty seventeen which i still claimed responsibility for. that lawsuit might seem a little farfetched but they've got some pretty solid testimony here's the president of the united states on national t.v. isis is honoring. president obama he is the founder of isis he's the founder of rise i think we'll give hillary clinton the you know if you're a sports team most valuable player and v.p. you get the m.v.p. award i says will hand her the most valuable player award her only competition is
1:43 pm
barack obama now perhaps this was just a figure of speech maybe he meant that washington's irresponsible foreign policy decisions had resulted in the terrorist group emerging it said the president with the founder of isis i know what you meant you meant that he created the vacuum he lost the p.r. bit he's the founder of rice as i do and there could be some more high level witnesses and a potential washington versus tehran case this is senator rand paul from kentucky had the president had his way or had hillary clinton had her way we may well have had isis in charge in damascus now because they've been arming and creating a safe haven for them as it is i think isis is more of a threat to us now because of the arming of the islamic rebels in syria iran is the lawsuit may actually come across as a counter claim that it was the u.s. that originally took iran to court for alleged involvement in the nine eleven attacks the quds decision is unacceptable and we reject it is not
1:44 pm
a new mockery of the system of international law but also more clear to the american people especially the victims of the september eleventh attacks and the families now the nine eleven commission found no evidence of any iranian involvement in the attacks the report simply states that the hijackers had traveled to iran without having their passport stamped it's a pretty tough sell but the u.s. courts bought it now as for iran's case we'll have to see if trump's word is actually a guarantee for success to be fair if donald trump's word is enough there's certainly a lot of criminal cases that need to be reopened remember what he said about ted cruz's father his father was with lee harvey oswald prior to ours where he's being . you know shot at so with all these. strong word of the allegations that donald trump likes to make maybe it's about time we get a disguise and a fake name and hide out in the witness protection program. r.t. new york. now the us brand of cosmetics mack is under fire after it released
1:45 pm
a tutorial for its muslim clients on what makeup to wear during ramadan apparently it's best to do it before the traditional priest sunrise meal. i can barely open my eyes were and mac comes out was glamorous look what mike think . is versus what it actually looks like. no thinking back i'll stick with my nature traumatise faux look at your own soap or. this would have been great for any stop or two or
1:46 pm
a need me couple it's great that maks medics want to diversify their marketing but come on at least consult muslin before running with the stuff. cosmetics do you mean tar because your three thirty am and no one looks like. a little bit humorous when you look at the exaggeration the disconnect that is existing between the public relations firms in these big corporations who are trying to kind of you know include include you know. christmas ramadan different religious occasions they're trying to be very much involved the grander trying to address the consumer on a personal level or something but at the end of the day sometimes it's a big. it's it's just very much just connected from what actually is going on and no they're not useful at all i did say ninety nine percent of the ladies who are waking up for school it's actually very laughable. now with just two weeks ago until the biggest event in football the free for world cup national squads and
1:47 pm
official delegations are starting to head to russia hundreds of peruvian fans to cheer their actual team which left the country ahead of the tournament before the official world cup. i mean moscow three will take part in say friendly second saudi arabia and also sweden thanks to brought the first match of the two wouldn't take place in the russian capital on cheap assault. so that's how the news is looking so far today here in our say morning and how. in july twenty second team i'll set up a freelance journalist working with our team militant shelling in syria. on his second fight scotty has established a solid l. such as memorial day will recognize more reporters who often risk themselves with the sake of the truth and through the piece you can submit to your published works
1:48 pm
in a video well written form until june the twelfth go to a doctor on t.v. dot com. you never know what's around the corner you never know what's in the pub even to walk into excitement it's that knowing that's where the adrenalin rush comes from. and you can easily move by definition and extreme so will support. the violence is a part. of schizophrenia. where you can do all these things and behave badly. you're born with all of horsepower for the low point possible for so focus on the last. one this may be an unfair. rule. in the start. i
1:49 pm

1:50 pm
this is boom bust broadcasting around the world this time from new york city i'm part children and thank you for joining us coming up on the broadcast as we discuss oil prices have surged to their highest levels in over three years last week but since then we've seen a nearly ten percent slide from seventy three dollars to around sixty eight dollars today per barrel why and what's next for the founder of peak prosperity dot com chris martenson will join us to help figure it out plus the key component of energy is of course pipelines alex small hyla bitch fills us in from toronto one interesting and very important development up north and the ongoing tussle with china over trade tariffs and sanctions gypped takes another rockets route with a new u.s. statement that has surprised trying to negotiate years they've had some harsh words
1:51 pm
plus members of president donald trump's own political party are squaring off in opposition to mr trump's efforts to allow china's telecom giant c.t.e. to do business in the united states after the company violated u.s. sanctions on iran and north korea conservative t.v. and radio host steve lol bird joins us to try and make some sense of this seeming insanity and what do you call someone who will lose seventeen thousand dollars in a this year i'll tell you before we go all that ahead but first let's get to a few headlines. there is new news that the u.s. will continue to press ahead with tariffs and restrictions. on investments by chinese companies which is inflaming more trade war rhetoric the united states continues to threaten fifty billion dollars of increased tariffs on chinese imports
1:52 pm
unless beijing addresses the matter of theft of u.s. intellectual property and reduces the u.s. trade deficit with china while discussions have been ongoing between officials from both nations the stated goal of the trump of ministration to reduce the three hundred seventy five billion dollar trade surplus with the united states remains a contentious problem u.s. commerce secretary wilbur ross is the next u.s. envoy to travel to china for negotiations that will head there on saturday meanwhile china's commerce ministry reacted swiftly overnight to the up u.s. ante with a short statement saying quote the chinese government will have the necessary measures in place to deal with they would withdraw a u.s. withdraw from any settled agreement if the u.s. wants to play games then china would be more than willing to play along and do so until the very end. antitrust regulators at the united states department of justice have approved bear a g.'s acquisition of monsanto regulators did make approval of the merger of the
1:53 pm
german drug giant bear and one santo a u.s. based agriculture and biotech the home of contingent on bear selling off about nine billion dollars in assets one of bear's peers b a s f s e agreed to buy the divest of assets those that sets notably include bear's pesticide unit branded as liberty which competes directly with months sent to maker of the herbicide life of say sold under the name roundup other divest of assets are related areas such as seed canola and cotton the potential for creation of a new market influence and even monopoly power from a combination of these agriculture related assets with monsanto's has been the primary objection of regulators in both the united states and in the european union . us drug seller purdue pharma may be facing more legal trouble due to their very profitable and highly addictive opioid products oxy cotton and its predecessor
1:54 pm
m.-s. cotton marketed the drug products as having less risk for addiction abuse than other opiates due to their time release formula they did so with express authorization from the u.s. drug enforcement administration after oxy cotton was approved for sale in one nine hundred ninety five but a newly discovered justice department report documents at purdue was actually aware of the reports that oxy cotton n m s cotton tablets were being sought out by drug abusers criminals and addicted people and resold on the street for up to forty dollars per pill the justice department says the report says that members of the secular family which owns perdue richard raymond and mortimer sackler were directly informed of the problems general counsel how are you dealt previously testified before congress that the corporation was unaware of the problems until two thousand two hundred thousand people have died from prescription opioid over joyce's overdoses in the past twenty years.
1:55 pm
last weekend the summer driving season started in the united states as folks are taking to the highways but filling up gas tanks this summer is expected to be more costly than it has been since two thousand and fourteen oil prices are far ahead of where they were just a year ago and just below fifty dollars a bit at just below fifty dollars a barrel today west texas intermediate was trading in the upper sixty dollars range but that's down almost ten percent from just a week ago and brant crude traded and wanted topped eighty dollars a few weeks ago trading in the opera seventy's today what does it all mean here to help sort it out is the founder of peak prosperity dot com chris martenson chris we thank you for being with us you're always so great to to join us there was news out of the st petersburg economic forum last week that the saudis and the russians may actually increase oil production after holding production down with the other opec
1:56 pm
members what's the latest on that well this is a really interesting development in that seemingly russia and saudi arabia have decided on their own or together to you know talk about upping the output targets for both of them the rest of opec was not really part of that discussion and of course it's going to create a very contentious opec meeting coming up and this is very unusual for saudi arabia to go out of the opec fold like this and remember it wasn't that long ago they were sort of enemies with with russia here they are making a very important announcement together they talked about a million barrels per day possibly wink wink is a whisper number that helped to really drive the price of oil down neither of them really want to see that the long term. well to some extent chris i guess they might say that it took a while but that it actually worked to get prices higher they said i think not even long ago maybe six weeks ago they'd be happy with you know the upper seventy's
1:57 pm
eighty dollars oil and they're very close to that do you think that the iranian sanctions will play into the opec production issue i notice that india said that. there are a large oil importer of iranian oil that they may have some concerns what about that well this is a very different conversation from the one we might have had a year ago where there was a structural oversupply of oil now we're at just about fully balance right now with signs that we're going to be slipping into under-supply going forward complex discussion because we have to talk about different grades of oil shale oil can't fill all of that gap and you can't take iran offline without creating real difficulties for parts of europe and india as you mentioned in response to those sanctions what we already seen chinese firms and russian from stepping into iran so very complex field right here but the simple answer is that as the world cannot afford to have a rainy an oil come off line right now i think that's part of the statement from
1:58 pm
russia and saudi arabia saying hey we could fill that gap yeah and the share they're getting out of that natural gas area what the pars eleven i forget what it's called sars pars eleven something but you're right i've never read that a chinese company maybe going in there to take that share that brings to another opec member not people people may not understand that venezuela also part of opec and used to be a major part but their productions been going down a lot what about venezuelans a decrease in production chris how does that play into this. well it factors in quite a lot that they've lost you know almost a million barrels a day in just the past year that's a lot to go down it really looks like it's collapsing at this point time of course venezuela is experiencing near complete social chaos and not just in the oil business so whether that i expect that to continue going down that venezuelan oil is going to come out of the fold and here's where the story we've got to get
1:59 pm
a little bit detail with it venezuela's producing a kind of oil which is a heavy oil and that ships in large measure to u.s. refineries which are geared for that cut kind of oil heavy oil the shale oil that's coming out right now the u.s. refineries are not geared for it they're probably already fully saturated with it any additional gains and shale oil doesn't help the u.s. refining situation all that much. chris you want to have you back we have a little bit more time to talk about what these higher prices might mean for us drivers and whether or not that'll increase demand and what will have to do with production but that's it for this time chris martenson founder of peak prosperity dot com thank you so much for joining us you're welcome bart. and time for a brief pause but hang out because when we return continuing with the topic of energy alex mann hile of edge fills us in on interesting develop a north regarding a free trip to really important pipeline and the ongoing tussle with china takes
2:00 pm
yet another turn or perhaps to this time president troposphere is to have gone too far and is losing support among those within his own political party conservative t.v. and radio host steve wallace joins us to help make sense of it and before we go i'll tell you what you're called if you lose seventeen thousand dollars and pay this year and as we go to break here are the numbers at the closing break at the closing bell we'll be back in what. will come twenty team coverage we've signed one of the greatest bill people is available to us but there was one little question and by the way who's going to be our coach. guys i know you on the us he's a huge star among us and the huge amount of pressure you have to go i mean eight percent.
