world leaders lash out at dawn terms new trade tariffs ahead of friday's g. seven summit seeking to avoid u.s. dominance. and world cup two world war three foreign policy shares the spotlight with domestic issues to intervene if it in sixteenth q. and a session with public. in time for a wake up call the british parliament upper chamber the house of lords is berated over members falling asleep during sessions we get reaction from the streets of london. as a place i feel that's happening and that if i went somewhere to say why should i i'd love to be paid for having it in my long day just listening to other people all day long so i get none of it so i let them have but.
6:01 pm
thanks for joining it's always a pleasure to have your company my name's neil harvey this is r.t. international. the twenty eight hundred g. seven summit is set to take place this friday in canada although it seems the discussion maybe a little turned the u.s. president and other world leaders are divided on trump's new trade tariffs that's what french president a man you're my crown and canadian prime minister just in trudeau said out of the summit. this the other six countries of the g seven are a bigger market than the us there is no global hegemony if we know how to organize ourselves maybe the american president doesn't mind being isolated today but we also don't mind being six if need be if we're going to continue to defend our industry in our workers but i also know that our citizens expect us to resolve our differences and show him that his actions are unacceptable. the seems like donald
6:02 pm
trump himself is preparing for a tough miss fear about the g seven he has tweeted that he is ready to quote fights with his fellow world leaders over the issue and recently we've heard much concern from you politicians who've called the tariffs illegal a political mistake and unacceptable this is very unfortunate it will not be a g seven it will be a g. six for the age of i don't mean you want to die the problem is if you're closer to the sun for there to be earlier i spoke to rahm poor former u.s. congressman and founder of the wrong paul institute for peace and prosperity he believes that trump will actually enjoy the upcoming g. seven summit says that it's because he thrives on conflict and knows how to come out on top. the leaders of the other six countries are going to try to be a real way are really tough on trump and make a lot of noise yet that is not the answer because trump usually wins all those
6:03 pm
types of arguments he proved it in our campaigning he just took that over and he said things and did things and controlled the media he's almost like don't cross me or i'll start twittering and what you're doing that i think trumps looking forward to it because he thrives on this and i think he handled better with silence rather than playing his game of starting to say hey mr trump you're a bad guy why are you doing this we're going to gang up on you because i don't think they'll follow through but trump loves a battle like this and i think they'll be a lot of battling there but not much will come of it well terms time wrists so it's moved to impose tariffs on steel in delhi i mean even from european countries came up to brussels confirmed its commitment to the nuclear deal your promise to. keep the business ties to tehran but the french vehicle equipment
6:04 pm
industries association has just counseled this to iran months amid the u.s. sanctions threat on these don't you bush will explains how the white house hits e.u. interests. e.u. solidarity and nothing but a house of cards off to europe from energy behemoths to the makers of persia and see paul in a bit this scrapping billion euro iran projects to brute the european investment bank owned by yes the twenty eight members of the e.u. of. supports the e.u. but ignoring sanctions is incompatible with its status of course and it gets worse brussels is painful new u.s. tariffs on europe's metal however some see all this as a calming plan business these days especially european union in american business is whether they have bangs automobile companies i t companies any other business
6:05 pm
there are so interconnected that america will continue to use that leverage to try to penalize some of their european companies who may be doing business with iran charmer tehran again breaking up the transatlantic marriage e.u. ministers write an angry open letter demanding america exempts them from iran's sanctions as close allies we expect that the extraterritorial effects of u.s. secondary sanctions will not be enforced on a u. entities and individuals and the united states will thus respect our political decision and the good faith of our economic operators within the e.u. legal territory. and while we await washington's reaction there is the small matter of friday's g seven or is that g six plus one it will not be a g seven it will be a g six plus one the united states have decided to raise dettori
6:06 pm
some steel and this is very unfortunate it is unfortunate because it will. cause a lot of damage to our steel and aluminum industry it is unfortunate because this is further weakening the transatlantic relations even union wanted to avoid this situation you wouldn't want to be your across right now distance in the ranks of your top firms be truly the party line or the world dodging bullets from the trump administration is ron paul again he fears america's latest moves are going swell of is closest allies will eventually backfire in a big way it is a serious problem what's going on especially if one does not like terrorists or terrorist war and i think as a consequence of many bad policy including monetary policy so a tariff war is just horrible and eventually it will hurt united states all what they're punishing are our allies so it really doesn't make any sense it's very dangerous because there are sometimes unintended consequences i think long term
6:07 pm
something will happen because i think there will be enough annoyance via our policies that maybe there will be an alternative to the dollar as the reserve currency of the world and i know russia and china and india and some of these other countries would like to see that happen. from domestic issues to the consequences of a third world war russia's president wrapped up his annual televised q. and a with the public this time it lasted over four hours these mayaguez the breakdown the highlights for us. some of the things that really stood out was what vladimir putin had to say about foreign affairs for example putin recently presented a snood of super weapons we're talking here about bigger more powerful foster nuclear missiles but they stick missiles and one view a challenge vladimir putin saying you know does this stuff really exist there are those who doubt new russian weapons are soon going to be put into service back in
6:08 pm
two thousand and four they were doubting the of on guard system but now we see it in syria and that's not everything that we're planning to produce and put into service as i said in my address it's too early to talk about it but we will speak out soon the president stress that this isn't about saber rattling or waving your guns around to measuring anything with anyone but this is about parity this is about making sure that russia has a deterrent that new enemy no potential opponent can overcome russia. here another particularly worried. that timea putin how close we are to world war three and will spur me change the in a moment don't because you know you can recall einstein's words he said i don't know with what weapons world war three will be fought but world war four will be fought with sticks and stones with the understanding of the fact that world war three may be the end of modern civilization must deter us from extreme actions on
6:09 pm
the international scene all this war talk and fears is no surprise given current tensions between the east and the west people are you know when is this going to end when is this division going to end these sanctions these restrictions and that we're putin said that they won't and till we will treat each other as equals until nations learn to respect each other and to compromise that he pointed to the trade war that has just erupted between your. the united states saying that the new tariffs that washington has slapped from the europeans which made them very unhappy those aren't so much tariffs as they are sanctions as minister for one of the french governments ministers recently said that the us shouldn't be allowed to become the economic policeman of the world and he spoke about it publicly the former german minister of finance publicly said that germany hasn't been
6:10 pm
a fully sovereign state since one thousand nine hundred five but everybody can see what's going on but probably our partners thought it would never affect them that kind of politics is counterproductive the politics of limitations and sanctions which allowed me putin also spoke about the upcoming world cup due to kick off in about a week in all over russia really andy said that the russian team lately hasn't hasn't played as well perhaps as a somewhat expected and he said he hopes that now that the world cup is here they'll really show what they've got. french and piece of it out of the new law that's designed to fight fake news r.t. france spoke to several lawmakers to warm the president macron back to the bill takes the country in a dangerous direction. the problem is in force meant of this law would put us in the position where the state decides what is truth and what is not. a mix truly
6:11 pm
concerned because this law is actually against freedom of speech on what part of the criticism they propose laureus being heavily promoted by the president as artie's charlotte do basically explains. it. is a basic freedom is the freedom of expression which always comes with the freedom of conscience and the fought and that constitutes the basis for the counter power vital to our democracy this illiberal temptation must be taken seriously. well the french president is a vocal defender of democracy and press freedom on top of that he's on a crusade against fake news the bill he initiated is aimed at protecting european elections from all kinds of this information spread in the media elections fakes media you have all of the key elements but one it seems is missing this voice that specifically russian media because of the time when the law was.
6:12 pm
thought the russian with responsible for what happened the united states since then there was lots of investigation very very few evidence concerning the russian of course no surprises here president is not a fan of russian media and of our channel in particular. russia today have not behaved as media outlets and journalists but as organs of influence and false propaganda. this is. the missing six young woman so you should. look obviously we're thinking about them with legalese with. this election. if passed the bill would allow french judges to block the publication of any information deemed to be head of elections not definitely false but.
6:13 pm
how efficient can these measures be welcome back because basically if you sense for something you're going to point everybody's attention to a. and there is no way you can censor efficiently the internet so everybody will be looking for this century news and because it's censured many many people in france who believe that's the truth even though it's probably not the government just spends the initiative saying that it has nothing to do with releasing freedom of expression but vice versa it's only to protect it there is no foreign media in the country available to. what foreign media or news which is not really widespread in france let's be honest here. to internet providers that home for those are the two major internet providers and in france for
6:14 pm
those of you don't know you have t.v. . with your internet provider i don't have all the news on my t.v. so i don't have access to news other than having access using the internet online on the web so it's not going to change much honestly there's nothing to be afraid of. i said to the u.k. now where members of the house of lords have been given a slap on the wrist over their behavior a memo should portably been sent to other complains about shouting audible conversations and even fully asleep in the chamber. explains why parliamentary snoozes they sound lovely but they're a sensitive issue. most members of the house of lords which is the chamber of the british parliament have been around the block for quite some time the average age in the lords chamber is sixty nine and from the breadth of their experience the law job is to scrutinise british law and that can be pretty tiring
6:15 pm
so much so that even the most hardworking and conscientious lords and politicians can get a little sleep paid. well rumor has it that the lords have now received a quiet telling off for falling asleep in the chamber according to the times newspaper a conservative peers have received an email telling them that their behavior and that isn't up to scratch and it said that the other political parties are sending a similar reprimand to their lords but according to your established parliamentary convention perry is all allowed to quote rest their eyes so i mom with
6:16 pm
photos of sleeping lords all sleepy looking lords and i want london as to help me determine which of these are just resting their eyes on which all most definitely in the land of knowledge the definition so he might be resting his eyes they've just been told off the sleeping too much in the chamber guy's lost control of his neck so he's definitely sleeping but i think he'd be asleep and he might be resting but i don't know all right i'm just looking down his and i was just ok so you're not guilty not guilty what about what about these to. the. rest of his eyes do you think they should. allowed to have a little camp in the chamber that so lots of hugs and nice scrutinising legislation i would think not this place i would be let's have enough if i went to work as a washington i'd love to be paid for having a kid in my office think they should be allowed to have a little kip in the chamber they can do whatever they want as far as i understand
6:17 pm
their old gentleman and i. respect. long day just listening to other people all day long so. let them have. another case of apparent police abuses come to light in the u.s. state of arizona we'll bring you the details on live reaction coming up after the break.
6:18 pm
the transatlantic relationship is had many ups and downs since its inception after the second world war it is said this relationship is whether these moments of tensions and differences due to american leadership enter. the transatlantic relationship survive the current occupant in the white house. for police offices in the u.s. state of arizona have been put on paid leave after a video showed them beating an unarmed black man last month i would have warning you may find the following footage disturbing. a group of policeman are seen attacking a man as he stands against the wall of an apartment complex the man doesn't appear to resist the sees punched repeatedly including while lying on the floor he's been
6:19 pm
identified as thirty three year old robert johnson the police were cool because his friend was allegedly trying to enter his ex-girlfriends apartment the local police chief says that johnson refused to follow officers commands the things that he said and then leaning against the wall made the office feel as though they needed to sit down and so when he didn't. really apply force. the local police association has criticised the release of the video because it has no sound on the stas and give the full picture the meza police department has made headlines in the past as well though the video we're about to run next shows the arrest of an eighty four year old woman and was blood before being released.
6:20 pm
in the woman's family claims that the officers told them she'd slipped later said that they were attempting to move her to a safer area another video released back in december provoked a wave of outrage showing police shooting an unarmed man in an arizona hotel the officer was acquitted of murder manslaughter charges again this footage could be disturbing for. joining on the line now is dominic who's a former police officer and a candidate for the sheriff in cook county illinois dominick we've just seen
6:21 pm
some examples of where things have gone wrong involving the police and making a rest how would you assess this this latest use of force this was by the police in the case of what seemed to be an unarmed black man not resisting arrest. it's inexcusable i can't find a single thing in a video that if and and for whoever made the comment that they were upset that the video came out because it didn't give an audio with it it doesn't matter if the subject had said no i'm not sitting down i refused to obey any one of your commands it was it was an excessive amount of force that we did use i can get behind any any support whatsoever you strikes on on a subject like that as much you saw the last blow was an elbow to the head there could be a lethal force moment tactic and i can't i can't find a single thing to justify in their video. i would imagine some people are going to claim that race played a role here i don't know how much information we have but i mean it appears that there is a disturbing trend. well you know there's
6:22 pm
a sorting trend because the people want to be a trend that we all have to look for some of the complain about i think what it is is i think videos are here to stay they're not going anywhere police have to start getting under the under the impression of every single interaction i will ever be involved with is going to be recorded in some way shape or form so. we actually have police officers are using their brains a little bit more and i'm a hundred percent pro police but it's not doing law enforcement any favors to have videos like this released and they're not going anywhere it doesn't matter what race what gender or what culture this subject was you know the police have a had a what do we see we saw five or six police officers on one hand typically i will defend any cop to any link i can but if you can't get the job done it with yourself another officer you've got to be you've got to be gone and this officer needs to be prosecuted needed to be arrested and criminally prosecuted now under some as a police has said that they now will not strike suspects in the face or in the head
6:23 pm
if the suspects aggression i mean to seems like too little too late shouldn't already have been some kind of code of conduct similar to that no because what you're doing is in that that's a knee jerk reaction and that's a bad move with the mesa police department because now you're taking away one more tool one more aspect there are going to be times there are going to be times when a tactic to strike someone in or around that area is an absolutely justifiable use of force this was not one of those so they're putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. after the fact and it's just it is just an irresponsible maneuver by by and by the mesa police department. i'm just trying to understand why we would get incidents like this i mean can you think of why police officers might behave like this could it be fit maybe they've had some but experiences in the past can you think of anything that might have provoked such a response you're looking at dynamic human beings and i'm going to be very blunt
6:24 pm
with you for the last several years the police have been under attack by the media and the media company not yours every one of them and the issue is that you have men and women who feel that they're being abandoned by their command staff they're being thrown out of the boss or being thrown on a bus by the media and emotions are flaring it is the police and this and the public we have to say i'm open to a pressure cooker and the problem is the police are not being in the public isn't seeing as how soon and this is something that really has to be take into consideration and what point are we going to get a news story out there that a cop used force that's a public a group of citizen saw that they didn't agree with because they've been exposed to constant media blast and bias of bad police tactics and force and the crowd is going to take it into their own hands to supply street justice on a peace officer how soon until that happens because the public are tired of this we
6:25 pm
have bad training for cops we have cops who do not take the train into upon themselves we have cops who are obviously overworked i said this in an interview the other day this is something the public doesn't realize the public doesn't get involved with their police officers and see what they go through even on a scheduling basis meaning you don't know what your officers are going through on a daily basis and you're asking these men and women to go on the street and do a job exactly to your liking without understanding them so until the public in the police are coming together as a community again none of this will ever stop so many i think give us some really interesting insights from an officer's perspective really appreciate your time and you of use my guest dominic is a former police officer and counted up the sheriff in cook county illinois. and that brings us to the end of this hour's bulletin thanks for staying with us hope you first found it interesting that's all for me for this evening my colleague sean thomas will be here you can say pounds in half an hour.
