i have different ones like they want to digest and i give his white house. a beer and you know does he do to bless the munda that hasn't got a gun go at the form of live everywhere unless he. has gotten no such issues of education does and for president is guided by title hold us in nigeria he's not all that. well as you said in all the games look forward to this change day is between the world cup debutantes iceland and unbeaten croatia but one of the smallest nation can still advance from group d. with a victory and their fans with their signature chant have already filled the streets of rostock on tone. oh oh oh oh. oh. oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh these times be near our house where i'm our all. hole and ahead of that game between
2:31 pm
croatia in iceland artie's out to form a travelled sixteen hours by train to get from sochi to rostov on don and he is how we got on. now with eleven cities hosting cup matches at this tournament the fans are finding themselves crisscrossing the country trying to keep up with their team and today it's our turn we're travelling from the black sea here or way up to rostov in the north that something like four hundred kilometers away i'm also told is going to take a sixteen hours in full willing to enter the equivalent of watching ten matches back to back although the good news is this ticket is only costing us forty dollars . and this is what you get your money you get a four berth cabin in here she gets four bunk beds two on the board and c. on the top down at the end of the corridor to. have your. toilet just for the. sounds ok so far. my favorite bit at the
2:32 pm
top where you actually get a whole boil this is powered by cold myself up to. now of course if you're on the train for any length of time the chances are you going to miss the full army or all you because of modern technology we can watch a game here on a smartphone to me so alexy of children and the city there from siberia to travel around russia. so i rushed off on a half thing on the train for what sixteen hours. i don't get much they can only do in that time but i'm going to spawn of my face because we're in real stealth and this is where our life of pi i sense and i don't want to write not should be a license to win and it's a concern you that will come i mean time i need to get freshened up.
2:33 pm

apply for many clubs over the years so i know the game and so i got. the ball isn't only about what happens on the pitch for the final school it's about the passion from the fans it's the age of the superman he just killed in a round of spend spend be true to the twenty million album fly. it's an experience like nothing else want to because i want to share what i think what i know about the beautiful guy a great so well chance with. the bass it's going to. i. welcome back artie's middle east correspondent paula slayer has been denied entry to ukraine she was stopped at the border she was heading to a human rights conference dedicated to press freedom she's currently stuck at the
2:35 pm
airport and this is what she told us. i'm sitting right now in the deposits announced here in kiev i am right at about eight o'clock this morning local time am supposed to be attending a conference organized by the organization for security and cooperation in europe and the conference is devoted to chris' freedom and media pew ality in ukraine june in times of conflict now it's quite ironic that i cannot even attend the conference and it's not only me there's another russian journalist who's also being detained and is being deported so while the deliberations will happen throughout the course of the day and as i'm speaking to you there deliberating media freedom in ukraine we stuck here they pulled unable to attend because we represent the russian networks i had checked in advance if i was on any blacklist because i have reported in ukraine in the past and the information i had was that i was not so it wasn't clear that i would have possible its problems when i arrived a check not possible it was obviously something that flagged an entire travel on
2:36 pm
a british passport and they told me aside and for about an hour and a hoss they kept me off to one when they were checking things they honestly feel my personality that me while i was by out was attending and i gave them the conference at james. and then just suddenly they called me into the room they stated we have all this from that you are being deported you are not enough to come back into the country for another five years and you need to sign yet it wasn't to be explained nation given they explained that what i was signing was essentially what they had told me the and then they bought me a hit to beat they treated me ok except for the lack of information back in the whole experience of course is a little bit unnerving focus of the conferences is to try and create a media climate across countries that is much more free and safe for journalists to work in but when i come to these comes and says i am i the head cold that the ukrainian contingent they are the big know me sometimes and often i speak so there is a lot of assistance to watch what questions in this have to say and so he representatives
2:37 pm
from russia also nodded here too in the same way that. ukrainian delegation is well as paula said there she wasn't given any explanation as to why she's been denied entry however under ukrainian law foreigners must be given a reason if they're denied access or paula had to leave ukraine once before when she received death threats in twenty fifty when she was covering a story about wildfires sweeping through the area around chernobyl and asking people about how the situation was unfolding ukrainian journalist i'm happy with paula being allowed entry to the country launched an online campaign and called for people to kill her she then started receiving death threats on twitter and subsequently fled the country. well the organization for security and cooperation in europe has given its reaction stressing all participating states should facilitate free travel for journalists across the region and of course the incident was mentioned at the media freedom conference itself don't you think that ukraine
2:38 pm
should step away from the policy that we condemn and russia i'm thankful to the speaker for condemning the decision of the ukrainian authorities not to allow russian journalist of guinea permaculture and r.t. correspondent paula slip to come to green so by preventing them from participating in this conference thank you. question more for the audience not necessarily for the expert panel here so i'm sure that will be discussed during the break i have one with one last question or we call you. know ok listen thank you very much to all my panelists or poorness there wasn't the only journalist in identity ukraine this tuesday we spoke with a russian journalist the afghani primakov who was also turned back at the border. i . mean to. the people.
2:39 pm
who. want to discuss this issue further we're now joined like like label affairs analyst touching henningsen patrick thank you very much indeed for joining us let's look at this situation than you quite i mean how productive could a conference on media freedom be if jenna sounds allowed to attend. that's a question for the oh i see i think the choice of the ukraine is a venue for an event like this certainly you can make a case that maybe this is a country where press freedom isn't really at the top of the list in recent years maybe not the best venue for an event like this but nonetheless the organizers have
2:40 pm
made a statement and have seemed to have condemned the decision by ukrainian authorities to deport these two journalists but beyond beyond this i think the important other point is you know these aren't polis lior for instance is one of the top war correspondents across any network has worked not in russia or not in the ukraine per se although she's worked in these countries but she's in israel she's in syria she's in other war zones so certainly this is somebody who you want to be speaking at a conference like this who has a lot of experience internationally as an individual and as a great reporter just the fact that she happens to work for r.t. is neither here nor there she could be anybody on her badge but as an individual. she's an outstanding reporter so that's kind of really disappointing by the ukrainian authorities let's look at the russian response i mean the foreign ministry has said that ukrainian authorities they don't fear any punishment for their actions against journalists because there's never any strong reaction from
2:41 pm
the international community i mean do you agree with that. you know i do you know this is a country that we spoke about kill lists earlier they have online lists. don't vote it will have lists about dissenters of the government and will encourage vigilantes to go and mete out street justice against these people they publish their names and addresses this is indorsed by one of the government ministries this is this kind of behavior is fully endorsed and these tactics are endorsed by the united states by the u.k. by the e.u. if they weren't they would be condemning them so the fact that they don't condemn the means that they. implicitly endorse them so i don't see any calls of indignation about what happened here i don't expect any and i think even from some n.g.o.s i've been become very politicized including reporters without borders who tried to shut down a white helmets presentation in geneva back in november so i wouldn't hold out any
2:42 pm
hope that they're going to speak up on this issue although would be nice if they did but you can see this is the overall politicization which i think is a result of propaganda that has been consistent and repetitive really since two thousand and fourteen to demonize anything connected with russia or any any of russia's allies including syria for instance so this is just an overall problem i think what you're seeing today is kind of a result of how effective this propaganda campaign has been over the years well as the father of that propaganda campaign that you mentioned that when we've requested a number of press freedom organizations to comment on the incident let's have a listen to what the international federation of journalists said let's take a listen. i'm astonished by ukraine's entry denial of madame slim ukrainian services have to explain the reasons for that decision and stop all pressure on journalists it completely contradicts how democracy works well for them that they want to expect the story to cause wide controversy in the press or be covered at
2:43 pm
all. unfortunately. i'm going to say no i don't think it's going to be covered at all no one's going to shed a tear in the west in this current political environment for any russian journalists because they're deemed as sort of illegitimate propagandists of the kremlin this is the sort of normal talking point but you have to you have to point out that this is a government in kiev that will use journalists for the most outrageous things including a couple of weeks ago. used by the s.b.u. in an entrapment scheme with the whole fake death plot and everything like this so that that's really down grading the whole journalistic profession i think so this is this is kind of a shambles if you look at some of the policies and actions of this government in kiev recently and so this unfortunately this is not a surprise. believe it that patrick any some global affairs analyst many thanks to you thoughts thank you. now locals in
2:44 pm
a paris suburb say the drug problem there has spiraled out of control and they accuse the government of doing nothing about it. i'm on the road that skirts around port chapelle in the paris as you can see the slum that's emerged here is brimming with rubbish it's also infested with rats but more worryingly this has become a sport for crack addicts and the issue is so severe now that locals have this crack hill a little further up the road it's not long before we come across people who appeared to be smoking crack in broad daylight others showing signs of being high often known as the poor man's drug crack is a derivative of cocaine mixed with baking soda or mania it's the most addictive form of the drug division i've seen people come here and after six months they look
2:45 pm
like the walking dead they lost fifteen kilos it's really hell for everyone she share in the g.m. has lived here for twelve years he says that while delicious pal has had a history of drug problems it's now spiraled out of control. the situation imported electra powell is catastrophic the authorities have let the place turn into a slum full of crack addicts it is ignore way the community on the hill there are five hundred people who were doing crazy things and annoying the locals very aggressively steal all sorts of things going on here about five years ago there were around a dozen of them we knew who they were but today it's five hundred the state is completely abandoned everyone stuck in traffic we see some men demanding money from drivers they claim it's for food but local say the money goes on drugs and despite
2:46 pm
a continuous police presence nothing seems to change some officials are now claiming this is the crack capital of france. the scale of the problem is such that put the chapelle is the biggest selling point and consumer of crack in france there are no demands for an emergency plan to be instigated to combat the problem so far those crisis not being heated by the government nor the local authorities and for now the people who live in port delish appelle and its surrounding areas remain in fear is the crack addiction continues to explode jollity even ski arty paris. senior u.s. officials are being hounded by groups of anti trump activists the situation has risen sharply in light of the controversy surrounding the u.s. president's now shelved immigration policy artie's kelly morgan picks up the story . antigovernment activism in the united states has become increasingly
2:47 pm
confrontational with a new emphasis on ostracizing and humiliating elected officials sarah huckabee sanders the white house press secretary found this out the hard way when she made the mistake of trying to eat out in a nice restaurant last night i was told but there were no rats hand in lexington virginia to leave because i work for paul to us and i politely left the secretary of homeland security had a very similar experience however she actually made it to her table inside the restaurant first however she could mean join her meal before things got ugly damp the chain restaurant playing a. family champagne. and after she left the restaurant the mob set up shop outside of her home.
2:48 pm
where we all know that the anonymity of the internet brings out the best in people right well after they refused to serve sanders the red hen network has been subject to all kinds of threats and false reviews meanwhile several internet platforms are trying to stop the circulation of immigration customs enforcement employees by anti trump activists. as immigration and customs enforcement continues to ramp up its inhumane surveillance and detention efforts i believe it's important to document what's happening and by whom and any way we can to that end i've downloaded made available the profiles of almost everyone on linked in who works for migration customs enforcement one thousand five hundred ninety five people in total things have gotten rough before between supporters of the administration and street activists however elected officials always step in and tell folks to be civil and respectful not anymore. and we have.

to let. you. know. you did you. know you have a primary. at the moment is analogies to. germany this policy. of family separation reminds us of the cattle cars of nazi germany when children were separated from their parents and marched to the supposed showers slave traders use these tactics nazis use these tactics terrorists use these tactics and now the president the united states is using these tactics bottom line donald trump increasingly looks like hitler in nazi germany like to concentrate. burton or integrating the unusual punishment on most would agree that's a pretty extreme exaggeration but members of the trump camp aren't exactly helping
2:50 pm
themselves when they look racist language. you know that. you're a you're cotton pickin mind how you don't get david bossie apologized for that comment but the damage is already done and now we've got steve king referring to migrant children as gang material young boys old enough to to be. tried as adults will serve in the military and our prime m.s. thirteen gang material and certainly grew up in the culture of one of the top ten most violent countries in the world and nobody in this country who understands history wants to encourage anybody to move a political debate into a zone of reckless civil disobedience and violence people in the media who blow these charges up without actually dressing down those who might make those accusations are inciting. a kind of riotous debate paying up you have a duty to be fair and balanced you have
2:51 pm
a duty to seek out the truth and publish the truth and you have a responsibility not to shout fire in a crowd in a crowded theater and so we've got mobs yelling nazi internet threats racial slurs taunts and calls for violence within greetings like that the story never really ends well. our t. new york when we want pro trump supporters are also throwing their weight around most recently during a live c.n.n. report the u.s. president's repeatedly accused the channel of peddling fake news and now you can hear behind me was very well you know we have a couple thousand people who. are standing right here on stand right here. well c.n.n. reporter jim acosta was covering a trial rally in south carolina as you can see in the first page one of the trump supporters haranguing the chillis. well for more on these stories along with other features and world cup coverage go to r.t. dot com otherwise i'll be back with more news at the top of the hour and you again
2:52 pm
