i. became his media and politicians go into speculation overdrive on the latest nerve agent incident on british soil with all convinced russia's involved. the race to find the best team on the planet intensifies as the world cup has lost eight becomes seven classes france and europe why packing with a two nil defeat. on friday evening twenty one favorites brazil take on belgium in cuz with the winner facing france in the semifinal.
12:01 pm
a very warm welcome you're watching r.t. international with me now our top story this hour the british home secretary is calling on russia to come clean after another case of the nerve agents novacek was detected in the south of england a couple are in a critical condition in hospital after reportedly being exposed to the substance artie's party boyko reports on the questions raised by the new incident they saw in the story had finally gone away but for months on there are police cordons journalists and that strange russian back on everyone's lips over charcoal remain deadly for long periods exposed to the nerve agent nobody chunk being caught a few months to think of things you know it seems you came back to normal for a few sites still closed off so for it to reset again it's a bit sort of iraq is going to go away we're going to come back again. oh
12:02 pm
personhood is it just to drink or like to play. and when you see nerves i think you do very well is a bit confusing really it's not hard to see why there's a bit of confusion around these parts after the poisoning of the script pals back in march the u.k. government launched a multi-million pound cleanup decontamination hazmat suits the full bang police can't say whether the nerve agent lets left on stuff just on charlie rally critically ill came from the same batch that the script pals were exposed to but they have said it's a keen line of the investigation and if it does turn out to be residual nerve agent it begs the question how did the big clean up that was carried out his message it the government insists that the latest incident doesn't mean the cleanup after the script palace poisoning was incomplete home secretary sajid javid also said that any items that may have hobbit any residual amount of the agent was safely removed
12:03 pm
for disposal nevertheless police say the couple were exposed to the now of a gent off to handling a contaminated. officials from public health england have urged people in salzburg not to pick up any on known items they also gave detailed instructions for more precautionary measures things like using baby wipes or washing clothes at specific temperature as well you should do that and you will sure close. the baby was the right thing to be doing things i mean maybe why so i wouldn't use them i'm sticking fingers so ridiculous you're not really a baby bunny. anything but this room is that fly about and he says she says and people know somebody that works either at the hospital or down but that's not all the room is one of the remains is that it was something that was destroyed. it is

picked up a new thinking it was a recreational drug. in the wake of the ames p. poisoning case some british media outlets have been indulging in a spot of scaremongering claiming an assassination attempt or cyber attack on critical national infrastructure are imminent or courtesy of russia we can cross live to london and r.t. correspondent in the sea a china cannot this is sacred to see what exactly all the media claiming over the. well and the british press are really ones rarely that shy away from anti russia sentiment and especially in this novel chalk saga we've certainly seen that speculation scaremongering and all sorts of. wishful thinking we may call it is seems to be battling it out with those voices that are less frenzied still calling for evidence as an example a latest piece in the times talks about what it calls spies being on alert over serious attack from threats of attack from russia and this is about apparently u.k.
12:05 pm
spy agencies expecting any minute now for a new some kind of attack to come from russia and what's the source they cite sources and in contrast to this if this wasn't enough they're also talking about how major sporting events seem to coincide with all sorts of developments such as the south said and war and the crimean referendum and again in contrast so this we've seen pieces in the guardian for example that say let's see some evidence first we don't have any of the facts yet and what would be nice is to explain really why would russia have some kind of reasonable motive and with all of this going on of course british officials are continuing to in some sense seeing the same tune and expect russia still despite russia's denial of being involved in any of this to come clean. it is now time that the russian state comes forward and explains exactly what is going on it is completely unacceptable for our people to
12:06 pm
be either deliberate accidental targets or for streets our parks our towns to be dumping grounds for poison you know the offer is still there to the russian state to try the sisters to tell us what happened because that would definitely help keep the people of souls very safe and of course again the british papers have been echoing those moods expressed by the home secretary we have headlines such as moscow is using britain as dumping ground for poisoned russia must come clean we have one here that says legacy of the u.s.s.r. and last but not least something like most likely explanation is a russian state hooked on the poison as a weapon of terror and of course all this while this whole entire time for the last four months really russia has been saying has nothing to do with this it doesn't have a motive it's called for a joint investigation with the u.k. multiple times and is really waiting for some actual tangible facts in all of this
12:07 pm
to be presented. and as they're checking in there from london with the media reaction meanwhile of the russian president's spokesperson has denied the country had any involvement in the instance and they express concern the nerve agent surfaced again but we're very lucky now to be joined in the studio by marco gas station to national affairs commentator thank you for coming and it's great to see you. as we just heard from our correspondent there the mainstream media are again blaming russia for this attack it let's just have a quick listen to what they've been saying. espionage and intrigue once again striking this sleepy corner of england that may have been left by the assailants who attacked the script files either it was left there during the preparation or after that attack russian intelligence was behind this but the fact is glad america has flat out denied it he's refused to cooperate with britain. and if we don't we simply don't know how many more people can be can come into contact with this what
12:08 pm
are your thoughts on the media reaction to the incident. i think that too much of the media seems to believe that it's national duty duty to parrot the government line on this when the government line has been contradictory but not contradicted by the media itself so there's been so many holes in the story i think we could. we could throw quite a lot of water down them and throw a lot of cold water on these claims because there's nothing to the as much as they change so much and very so considerably from day to day practically with the original stories and now we're being given a rehash of course in the middle of a sporting event in russia what a coincidence and though and as i say too much of the media is too willing to accept too much which is unproven and in flak contradictions of everything that looks like common sense is it even plausible that russia could be behind this now i don't believe it is plausible because again we comes the question of motive and the timing of this in the middle of the quarter final stage here with russia playing
12:09 pm
tomorrow and croatia and there's absolutely no way any ruler of any country would want the national fervor the patriotism to be distracted by some idiotic story at its own expense in a foreign country which knows nothing over things russian but doesn't really like allow russia to enjoy the fruits of its world cup well according to some claims in the british media midway through the world cup is the perfect time for such an incident because there's a smokescreen yeah i think the smokescreen is from those people who make these claims because actually. the these events are actually designed to draw attention away from that world cup and distract from the success of events like the social impacts a similar events were occurring then there's a claim that russia would want to use that these events as smokescreens but for what for attacking two random people in some small town in in england as if. the russian government or mr putin hasn't got better things to do than to go around
12:10 pm
making mischief in some obscure regional town in some unfortunately relatively obscure country it's absurd all its tenets and we should remember that the examples given i noticed in the media for example was in georgia and so on are examples which were initiated by the western backed governments in those regions so it wasn't the russians starting something in line with these events it was actually the other way around those events were happening when the western backed governments began their own campaigns for example towards south a seizure all those years ago it is very curious isn't it how little information we've been given about the poisoning of the script powers and even less details given in this recent case do you think that what we thing now is the you know the beginning of the age of guilty until proven innocent well certainly as far as russia is concerned that we've been in that age for quite a long time if we can accuse russia of something you will you will do so if you can
12:11 pm
invent something about russia you will do so and if someone comes along to contradict you with undeniable facts you will do your best to ignore them for example we know that in the original script like yours ations we had one of the lads one of the five labs accredited to the organization for protection for the protection of the protection against chemical weapons a swiss lab said this is not this a two three four i was not as mobile shock is actually something called a much milder agent which would explain why the script survived and why these two people if they are victims of the same thing have also survived now because it will . produced by the russians and the media has simply not taken into account the voices which are saying sorry it's not not a joke it's not there for the russians and what are you talking about the media's carrying on talking anyway but it's not just the media as it. is the elections yeah exactly but why how can they be so so bold in making such accusations if they're not presenting any evidence if we not seen any evidence will they rely on the
12:12 pm
compliant media which there are a few voices that are now say well what's the evidence but nobody's actually saying we have evidence to the contrary i mean that is a question of motivation i think that britain britain these to find a new basis for unity with the rest of the west and central europe other than the european union one and it's found one in the alleged security threat from somewhere further away so let's get all behind plucky britain as it defends us all from these these terrible people coming along and poisoning people in salzburg so it's trying to find a new base is to present itself at the forefront of the european initiative and that's its main thing the other point of course is the. degree of tension with an external enemies are using for the defense industry to sell its weapons and for the defense minister to get his budget and that's very convenient as well international affairs commentator mark agassiz thank you so much for coming to the studio it's great to get your take on this story and great to see you in person as well thank you. well it's game over for your guy after to know through rationing by france or for the for much analysis we can now go live to our world cup coverage live from st
12:13 pm
petersburg. welcome back to st pete since your joining myself at least the early and the wall kids it's world cup quarter final time in the first time i between france and europe why has ended and it's victory for the blues and after the quarter final stages are over four teams will be sent packing one another for can go on to battle for the trophy. game changer for the first minute when the first goal was scored by the french to call take out the yellow card off the qualifier part meatless follow the long. run then how it is from that.
12:14 pm
time corner. how are you. from the one and. got away that from defense no chance for the keeper and your guy without their chances in the first half. a couple of minutes. putting out a quite stunning start from serious reaching really full length down to right one side down to the post and pushing it away and then getting up immediately and making himself massive for the rebound player striking over the ball. i think yeah yeah yeah it was all over the road was they kept up the pressure they fought in the last minute all killed off. the second off griezmann took a shot. really from the outside of the box thirty yards out so left footed what was . the thinking terrible mistake that's going to hold him just spinning that goal
12:15 pm
over. his right hand shoulder. very similar as he was saying madrid's a little funnel was in the. carrier similar symptoms carrier again going down the keeper not standing up in command and really really disappointed we can actually see the reaction of the french france now to that goal and the scenes really wild. with. the with. now of course one team celebrates the other not quite so happy. and emotions are running very high. similarly broken already even before the match of the match finished. the holding back tears as they lined up to defend that french
12:16 pm
free kick someone out of the real frustration they had throughout the whole game just on able to take that control and would feel just overpowered by those french midfielders unable to get across is anybody on the end of those free kicks. and really symbolic i think what's incredible about that scene that there's still two minutes to go in normal time we've seen in all these wild card games at least four five six minutes about it on time with the v.a.r. and everything he's got seven minutes of the game left and he's already crying and i think that's indicative of how frustrating it was for your guys you mention there the midfield battle you have those the trio of can say pug and in this game to lisa who was dominant and it just led to a very frustrating game for your guy who was suarez looked really caught a lone figure was going to shut up the game without the presence of connie and the absolute neutralize exactly what they ended up doing your why was trying to resort to long balls but they weren't beating the first man a lot of balls are being played quite easily by the french defenders in the midfielders and it was quite a bit of a damp squid towards the end of the game the second goal went in we looked at each
12:17 pm
other and said oh wait. we're going to get back into this they just couldn't couldn't really get a foothold in the globe and as you quite rightly said you know that game could go on for another ninety minutes one hundred twenty minutes there was no way they could have found a way back in the way they'll claim that needed real tactical change that. the absence of cavani really kill off all of those and. you know some of the best. players on the pitch. are also there supporting their teams as well. was. there of course those latest guys just from you must take a look at that. was. it was.
12:18 pm
the ear. was. the ear to ear. now taken over russia and it's also taken over the agenda of the russian president vladimir putin on friday he welcomed previous world cup and other football stars as well as president and tino joining them was keeper and our host peter schmeichel and with so much footballing talent in the room the russian leader tried to get the inside track on who was going to lift the famous goal trophy. so
12:19 pm
those. are still. only eight teams of thirty two are left you are world class experts but it may be that when the media leave you will share with us who will win the cup this year in your opinion the ability to play with them but. now later on today we have another another game brazil against belgium looking forward to that really. well it's interesting to see who fronts are going to prefer to play there's no i mean they were so successful in shutting down suarez they've been so successful over powering the midfield such effective defense. they would really perhaps prefer brazil in that way they could shut down neymar. and france that would be about what i would like the belgian front to be interesting because for many years people have been looking at belgium and saying look what potential i have so many young stars so much. in the squad now those young lads big grown men.
12:20 pm
who are coming into their prime ramallah calc you play and of course now it's for man united so many players who this is the make or break on the for them and anything less than i think a semi final appearance for belgium is disappointing i really think that would be an amazing tie if we could see france well it's similar to the you know england's golden generation we'll talk about. the generals to lambaste terry's etc. break the pressure is very much more on them than it is i think on the opposing team today. in terms of i mean in terms of the pressure if you're looking at a team like england now like you said the pressure is on the scene as somewhat of a young team we saw with the golden generation issues with cliques in the dressing room and perhaps belgium won't suffer from those problems they'll be hoping not a great day peter schmeichel we were talking about it before he'll be joining us in
12:21 pm
time for the second match of the evening but how. to get his views on the goalkeeping in the game but we'll be speaking to him as belgium so you can do so you're not going to use that misfire and. now hear from alexei going to shift just very shortly who is there alexei finds buzzing now. buzzing to hear what's going to happen from the game always to you have a with is going to face france i was that must feel like an. incredible atmosphere and you know cazan is actually one of the luckiest city in the world cup if you think about it because the last of the round of last sixteen the first game of the knockout stages which was argentina against france was played in this stadium right here but today it's the final game and it was a crack that game promises to be that is brazil against belgium now brazil are obviously five time when as all of the world cup they are very much looking to win
12:22 pm
it for the sixth time in the final in luzhniki in moscow in just about a week from now belgium is also one of the favorites they've been a very impressive side in the store and winning all three of their group stage games and then producing grazie performance against japan being two goals down and winning givenchy three two scoring and basically in the last minute of the game so from the terms of the names that in terms of what we can see on the pitch just you know solid world class talent on both sides i spoke to some of the fans namely brazil because they've been the ones occupying the city massively really hard to find the belgian fans brazilians all over the city turning it into some kind of rio in central russia and here are their thoughts on this. jim because because you always when i don't like. to be pessimistic i like to work to
12:23 pm
treat for it because i don't want to just one goal would be to. one one zero so if you like that it will be a really hard game i mean it's really good. but as you'll see one yeah so schools that was the. name on it was. so different to be as i have from the brazilians who was going to school about the fit i mean. even douglas costa one of the fans believes that he will be his day today but none of them are actually expecting a five goal a six goal dominance they all say is going to be a tough guy and i tend to agree with them i don't see this being you know multiple goal kind of game because the both sides are very very well defending and both sides are very well attacking so it will be an interesting game but hopefully we'll see some brilliant performances from the biggest stars like maybe and maybe out of . lexi thank you very much for the.

d.c. where important policy and money decisions are made there on capitol hill i'm bart chilton and thanks for joining us for what is the first installment of our infrastructure deficit special we're glad you're on board what will focus on the u.s. this time we'll have a few comparisons with other places around the world there's so much to cover much of the things that you would expect like roads bridges airports and rail but we also take a more complete and comprehensive look at other important infrastructure critical to not only commerce but to national security will look at energy including pipelines and the electrical grid and communications including broadband and even specifically how trucking fits into our deeply textured transportation network there's so much that we couldn't do it all justice in one program and i'm pleased that will be doing so with a little help from our friends some of the arctic correspondents and others who are lending their expertise to it for most of all i'm really looking forward to it and i hope you are too.
12:29 pm
so we're going to jump right in and start with a bit of an infrastructure place setting and then look at rail for that we turn to our to correspondent manilla chan. president try to campaign for months and months on repairing america's crumbling infrastructure from the roadways to waterways railways to the airways and has recently unveiled a plan to bring america up to speed we're here today to discuss the critical need to rebuild america's crumbling infrastructure. and one understands and the people in this room really understand better than most probably hopefully better than anybody that the problem the states have and local leaders have with funding
12:30 pm
the infrastructure is horrendous and we will build we will maintain and the vast majority of americans want to see us take care of our infrastructure infrastructure is the backbone of the u.s. economy and a necessary input to every economic output those are the opening lines in the most recent report from the american society of civil engineers their study aptly called the failure to act a report minces no words in their frustration with the budget shortfalls in infrastructure and highlighted that america is consistently at about a two trillion dollar short ball when it comes to infrastructure according to the a.s.c. if this investment gap is not addressed by the year two thousand and twenty five the economy is expected to lose almost bore trillion dollars in total g.d.p. which can result in a job loss of about two point five million people across the country u.s. railways once connected the entire country from sea to shining sea much of
