donald trump is about to meet with the u.s. congress members after his talks with president putin sparking outrage in american media. which side is the bride in which side of it is the groom enters a bit of store sort of feels like we're at a wedding you have been watching for an hour for the most disgraceful performances by an american president today's press conference in helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an american president in memory. facebook admits classifying thousands of russians as interested in treason supposedly for advertising purposes raising concerns over who might really want to target such youth it. also this hour full of french all those the victorious world cup team returned home to a hero's welcome this is. a
1:01 pm
very warm welcome you're watching r.t. international with me the key erin now our top story this hour donald trump past completed his european trip which began as a nato summit and ended in a historic meeting with vladimir putin now the u.s. president is that to meet with congress members however they may not give him the warmest welcome. my mouth is still agape i can't believe it's thoughtless it's dangerous it's weak i think to sprint. to the number one enemy we probably have on the globe let me put you to be will go away
1:02 pm
your mind but. it's inexplicably. or maybe it's not it's a big hairy terrible outstanding question is the possibility that president putin holds damaging information over president trump while trying to defend himself from the attacks and perhaps his favorite way through twitter he stressed that he has great confidence in u.s. intelligence which has repeatedly stated that russia meddled in the twenty sixteen election but trumpeted he can't focus on the past as the two nuclear superpowers must get along we spoke to former congressman ron paul who believes that american media are used are used to patrolling russia as an enemy. but you also mentioned so far in this program about the american media and that is a big problem because for some reason they're almost unanimously endorsing the idea that we have to have an enemy and at this point especially for the last twenty
1:03 pm
years they've been working very hard to make russia the enemy and i think this is this is wrong and it's not the democrats alone that do this it's the democrats and along with some disgruntled republicans who just they just don't like trump but no i was very pleased with what went on and it's a step in the right direction they i think the biggest thing that if they ever had a serious discussion i guess it would come out on how much we've been involved when we should be involved for instance in ukraine and how that occurred but if they don't have want to concentrate on those problem and they want to look forward i think that is great but i would like to i think the next best step ever would be for us to reassess this and say that trump is going in the right direction and talk i'm into getting rid of the sanctions on russia. let's get the latest from the u.s. now on cross lines to correspondents americano samir our good to see you how
1:04 pm
outraged all the u.s. media are at the moment we know yesterday evening in the often montell that me saying there was a lot of anger how are things playing out today. well the summit has the entire country up in arms and that includes the media hand us a politician now to give you an idea what it's like here i have two newspapers to show you one the washington times trump sides with putin over intel number two gets worst it gets worse excuse me the daily news open treason trump backs and me putin over u.s. intel so in this political climate if you don't support increased escalation between two nuclear superpowers it's considered treasonous but going back to the press conference in self trumped up pragmatism and his constructive additive was appreciated in russia judging by the comments of some russian statesman now when
1:05 pm
trump was aborted with questions regarding alleged russian meddling trump chose to focus on building positive relations and building bridges between the two countries and his slogan for the summit quote i would rather take a political risk in pursuit of peace and then to risk peace in pursuit of politics and this is also very shaded in anti-war circles of the u.s. but how did the u.s. media respond well let's take a look between the you know there's a reason there is a big national freakout happening right now over what the president just did in public what i do with putin pitched a shutout trump got beat up in the locker room what worries me about you mr president is you seem to saying only good things about your enemies was shocking it was appalling there was a real sense of defeat and. you have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an american president he showed cowardice on that world stage where the president looked like a weak dumpy stooge we negotiated from
1:06 pm
a position of weakness yesterday and a lot of our putin walked away from helsinki with the when he had a chance to show loyalty to the men and women in uniform and instead he betrayed them it's a disaster. some u.s. politicians took to social media to denounce the summit entirely even calling for the u.s. military to act a representative steve cohen said quote where are our military folks the commander in chief is in the hands of our enemy but then cohen backtracked on his word saying that he didn't call for a coup so after all this we're left with one question why is washington d.c. so hostile to peace between the u.s. and russia so we'll just have to find out how congress reacts up to this indeed we will that's all it is it's american frank you for that update when we want to appear ten took part in a heated interview with the american channel of folks news in which he was pressed on key issues relating to russia.
1:07 pm
firstly russia was the state has never meddled in the internal affairs of the u.s. and in particular has never meddled in its elections secondly what you should or should way you. have some patients to distinguish between. you really think that it was possible to meddle in the us elections from the territory of russia and to influence the choice of millions of americans and people you know we but it's ridiculous city council. at the prosperous mission but i'm not asking whether they influenced i'm asking whether they try i will answer now what. the hackers about whom everyone was talking about i will turn to it do not worry. emails as they told us and there was information that inside the democratic party there were manipulations in favor of one of the candidates and that is all and that the leadership of the executive body of the party resigned so they wanted this fact and that was the most important thing in all of it that the manipulations of the us
1:08 pm
public opinion must be stopped and they had to apologize to the voters what now mr miller mr president let me answer your set your indicate if you don't like miles we'll tell you then and i will stay silent supporters but if you want to americans to hear my opinion and have more patience they are going to be with you mr miller and his colleagues. but why mr miller and his colleagues let me finish speaking of the disrespectful this time you won't stop me to delete. the relations between the u.s. and russia the hostages all of you internal political struggles. and what can we want to be given some documents on this issue at least some material as you see no one is saying anything specific that it's like in the case of the accusations against us over the meddling in the us political process we have not given any documents and now we see that people became the victims of the so-called
1:09 pm
novacek but i have not even heard the names of these people before you are these people from what did they suffer and why. picked up the bottle that was used to attacks cripple i can i ask you one last question sir. but let us handle this this you first what bottle who picks it up and from where and what is its chemical formula. you know and whether there are different reasons for which these people have suffered and maybe these reasons are inside the u.k. . but no one wants to investigate this proper legal they just threw empty accusations and for what sake why worsen the relations between our countries when russia wants to build them with the u.k. properly so look at it then you can work with us. you'll see this as a quite by effort of the effort by the west in recent years to isolate
1:10 pm
russia. we see that these efforts do not see any success and they could never have seen it given the size and the values of russia on the scale of global security and in economics and i mean energy costs are part of the world's economics in the understanding of what is uniting us and on what we have to work together at all is leading us to the idea that it is necessary to stop the attempts to fight each other and on the contrary to unite our efforts for overcoming common difficulties and problems i think it is a good start. to start. behind the u.s. media speculation of whether donald trump is in fact a russian agent or not saturday's summit in helsinki did in fact see some impressive diplomacy one of the issues where leaders seem to have common ground was syria and russia's defense ministry says it is ready to implement any deals agreed well arty's maria financial and joins me now in the studio to discuss the details and we are how much do we know at this point i'm afraid there is no too much to
1:11 pm
discuss because there are no details on exactly what has been agreed in health and from what we hear from russian defense minister right now it's also not clear what steps we may expect from both sides in syria but what is clear is that both russia and us are not interested in making this strategic information public but what is clear that that the dialogue that mr trump and mr putin had in london helsinki and claims by russia's military is definitely a positive sign for syria both sides also stressed that they are interested in. ending the humanitarian crisis in syria and they said that they are going to focus their efforts on helping people in syria let's have to say what mr putin and mr. boucher as you see is that you but i would i think there is plenty to work on
1:12 pm
a crucial thing is there are many refugees in states bordering syria in turkey lebanon jordan if we move back to their homes this will ease the migration pressure on european countries i think that is extremely important if we can do something to help the people of syria get back into some form of shelter. on a humanitarian basis and that's what the world was really a humanitarian basis i think that both of us would be very interested in doing that and we are we will do that. so as for the military situation the focus the main focus right now in theory is on the region bordering israel and the confrontation between syria and israel has been very severe recently and has actually been quite always between the two countries but it's interesting that both putin mentioned the security. of israel and the relations between israel and
1:13 pm
syria in that speech is. a long meeting behind closed doors in a healthy so we may expect. easing of that situation in syria maybe but again it's hard to say exactly what to expect in the midst of the representatives of the two countries national securities are going to meet soon to follow the issues that two presidents discussed so we have to wait and see right what is the current situation in syria right now it is it is a catastrophe the war has been raging there for seven years it is a humanitarian crisis as agreed by both russia and u.s. and international community in fact but as i said the focus is on that region bordering israel and just shortly after the meeting. in helsinki between putin and trump but we heard reports that the syrian government managed to regain control of
1:14 pm
a strategic point in that region so it's not a secret that the u.s. has some influence on so we may say that that could be. their reaction or what the two presidents have agreed but again like it's really hard to speculate right now. but it is a positive sign for syria i think. sorties more a flash and i thank you for bringing us up to date on that. ok we can now bring in a guest on the work of the rector of the no souls thing talk that focuses on crises in syria and the middle east to mr walk out of good to have you on the program and now we do know that some agreements on syria have been reached but as we're was just saying we don't know the details as of yet do you think the dalles will help the country. we understand from the atmosphere yes we don't know the details but at least what we understand is that there will be some augmentation. of
1:15 pm
the cooperation between the two militaries the russian and the american military's . not only speaking about agreed. points in policy or agreed steps but also concrete steps because these are the people on the ground and they have been described throughout the or within the conference yesterday a news conference yesterday that they actually talk to each other much better and much more than the politicians and the two superpowers do so there is some positive take on that now it seems that we are heading towards recognizing sort of spheres of influence. we understand but probably president donald trump would want to implement his decision taken about ten weeks ago. that the united states is going to withdraw its troops from syria and quote unquote lead others to deal with it. if that happens we're talking now perhaps about an exit strategy and
1:16 pm
if both superpowers recognize this sort of sphere of influence within the middle east it would definitely bring less confidence conflict because you know things will be tested in the more and of course you know if the situation in syria does improve would it have a knock on effect and ease the e.u. migrant crisis. it will first of all there is we need to understand that there are parties that are still interested in spreading few acts syrian immigrants and refugees outside syria. a small example when the syrian army's operation in southern syria. started a few weeks back. there were talks from very high level syrian politicians. about we know asking basically or you know the refused the people to flee their houses because the syrian army and affiliated you dance are going to come and rape their
1:17 pm
women we now see about you know more than the estimates are about two hundred thousand people that are outside of their houses a lot of them have started to come back but then it seems that there are parties who are interested in keeping them. government controlled areas this is the smaller picture the bigger picture is that there are still a lot of syrian refugees outside either an adjacent countries turkey lebanon jordan or in europe for example in the e.u. who would be. they wouldn't trust going back to syria because of fear of persecution because of fear of you know they don't something some of them didn't have a place to go back to. but. in the situation in syria both humanitarian home countries some of them at least and we've seen some encouraging starts in lebanon. towards that and hopefully that would ease the pressure of the refugees
1:18 pm
from the rest of the world so what kind of timeline do you think we're looking at if the right decisions are made how soon could europe's migration crisis be tackled . now this is a very complicated issue it's not going to happen overnight because we need to acknowledge that some of the refugees who went to europe when for economical reasons not only you know. the fear of being killed or fleeing of combat. areas. of war zones saw these people might have aspirations of integrated with local societies they might want to study they might want to be economically active there is a bit of a social changes will and if they like what they have at the moment it will be hard to convince them to come back so that's a big task however. if we can if the political process can be put together within the next say twelve months that everybody feels. you know interested in and feel as
1:19 pm
a stakeholder and then probably people would want to participate. the reason why a lot of them don't want to come back is that they live in denial as well that the syrian government is going to fall that it's not going to happen and they don't want to acknowledge that the syrian state has really one of nearly winning the war in syria and they keep hearing these reassurances the truck shows going to change its mind iran is going to get bombed or starve the syrian regime is going to fall so. they still live in denial there is a huge propaganda machine that keeps them you know the feeling assumption so as long as those behind such a propaganda campaign. it would be hard to convince them to come back and it would be more word of mouth rather than a you know widespread movement so we're talking about years you're not. on the work
1:20 pm
have to read some of the knossos think tank thank you for your time. now still to come on the victorious wrong squad has been greeted back home by a man on the crown of the presidential residence well look at how it was off this. like so many clubs over the years so i know the game and so i got. the ball isn't only about what happens on the pitch for the final school it's about the passion from the fans it's the age of the super money killian erroneous and spending two to twenty million and one player. it's an experience like nothing else only because i want to share what i think what i know about the beautiful guy my great one more
1:21 pm
chance for. going to. join me every thursday on the alex simon show and i'll be speaking to guest of the world of politics sports business i'm show business i'll see you then. welcome back three social media giants facebook google and twitter are facing us congress at the moment i've alleged political bias platforms but herring is also addressing advertising practices and fake news it comes as facebook admits that it's algorithm labeled thousands of russian uses as interested in trays that
1:22 pm
supposedly for advertising purposes and that's raising concerns over who might really want to target these uses auntie's more advanced if takes a closer look. it's simple facebook exists to serve advertisers not users not you and i said a rerun of its. advertisers pay money they want direct access to the right users the target audience you might fall into the interested in islam category or interested in homosexuality group it depends on the things you click on line which facebook tracks and then advertisers or governments can tag you but one of those categories was treason interested in treason officially russian people who facebook deemed as anti government to the
1:23 pm
russian and facebook confirmed it to us treason was included as a category given its historical significance given it is an illegal activity we have removed it as an interest category that is their official statement they added that the key word was hardly ever used by advertisers which means that it was used there were people out there searching for treason inclined russians and serving them with presumably propaganda encouraging them to commit treason against russia months it was found out facebook removed the category but the pundits managed to twist even vat this isn't about sixty five thousand russians being targeted with foreign propaganda meddling in internal russian politics that an see they say the real controversy is that these people could be targeted by russian
1:24 pm
authorities imagine if ace book categorize americans as potential traitors fact advertisers that blog zuckerberg op have expressed how upset i am that the russians try to use our tool to sow distrust what they did is room and we're not going to stand for it. and now the meat of it when it's russians being targeted by probably again the distrust in russia as five until you get caught. lassie has sent a request to a number of human rights and journalists groups asking for comment as to whether such a practice constitutes meddling in a country's internal affairs four of them including human rights watch and transparency international have responded to our request so far saying they are not in a position to comment journalist and radio host john gaunt believes facebook's power and influence has become overwhelming. if this was americans who were being
1:25 pm
targeted there would be absolutely our age in congress and across the whole of the american media and clearly the it was looks like it was being used to spread dissenting russia and that's wrong with this also be given to government spies so that governments could enforce their will against the people we already know the algorithms a biased against anybody who's got a slightly right of center view we know about shadow of a shadow accounts i just think we've all been rather foolish it came along facebook and twitter facebook in particular but we gave all our information or our history all our pictures all our significant events and they have literally caught too much power and mascara on every level whether you're living in russia america or indeed in western europe. hundreds of thousands of people packed onto the songs elisei in
