prevent. the french president goes like tirade against the media over its humbling of the scandal involving a. top security. twenty four hour news from moscow this is r.t. international i'm you know neal and you're welcome to the program top story donald trump decided to postpone part of a historic summit with putin until a later date in twenty nineteen according to top officials the move comes less than a week after the u.s. president ordered an invitation to be sent for further talks in washington following the health summit earlier in the month let's get the details now. who has
4:02 pm
been following developments so it doesn't look like there will be another face to face between the two leaders this year anyway what led to the turnabout. well first john bull and explain the decision citing the current political climate as the main reason saying that the meeting should take place after the quote russia witch hunt is over and this comes only one day after the kremlin confirmed that it had received the invitation so it's also very interesting timing it comes right after the muller investigation which is essentially part of this russia witch hunt that bolton speaks of which has been going on for ages without any evidence now it reached its peak last week after the helsinki summit and it led to the media calling trump a traitor accusing him of trees in a calling him names like a kremlin stooge you name it but let's check out what happened. i don't know which
4:03 pm
side is the bride and which side is the groom anderson but it's there are sort of feels like we're at a wedding you have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an american president why is president trump putting himself in his along orrible high stakes scenario and letting vladimir putin lead so this decision appears to be a move to calm down his domestic critics and the meeting has been postponed for a twenty one thousand that means after midterm elections which apparently will definitely be influenced by the russians and even trump has joined and check out what he had to say. i'm very concerned that russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming election based on the fight the new president has been tough from russia to me they will be pushing very hard for the democrats they definitely don't want trump now this is an announcement also comes as my pompei as
4:04 pm
secretary of state testifies before the senate about this very topic along with trump's other foreign policy decisions but my comp a already has stated that the anti russian sanctions in place will remain in place and he confirmed that he said that russia meddled in the twenty six thousand election so a total of one hundred eighty degree shift from last week. i have president putin he just said it's not russian i will say this i don't see any reason why it would be but both trump and pompei on the rest of his administration think that dialogue will improve bilateral relations so we're just going to have to see how this quells domestic critics all right thanks for setting those issues are for some your accounting live from washington d c let's dive a little bit deeper into what syria was speaking about there and go live to done
4:05 pm
culture like international labor rights lawyer very welcome to the program and mike pump a.o. is facing the senate right state of course in the u.s. over trump's talks with putin and north korea as well he's been there for over an hour first and foremost is that normal for america's top diplomat to face this kind of grilling. well i mean it certainly happens but clearly we're in a much more polarized environment and pressurized environment where particularly the russia issue is taking on a life of its own and so i do think we will probably see hearings like this more than we normally would you know what's been spoken about there we mentioned the north korea issue of kim jong un and also that some of that historic summit last monday in helsinki with blood where putin and donald trump democrats were earlier
4:06 pm
pushing for trump's interpreter meeting to testify over the issue the motion was blocked by republicans your thoughts on such a request. you know well that i do think is extraordinary. this whole russia hysteria has gotten out of control and that trump was labeled a traitor. for just meeting with foreign leader like vladimir putin is just outrageous and the fact that they would the democrats would ask for the interpreter to testify that is unprecedented but this is an unprecedented situation again i don't think we've seen this type of reaction to a meeting between a president in a foreign leader even during the first cold war. i don't think presidents were treated like this for meeting with a soviet leader yeah that's been pointed out the talks continued right through i thought you're exactly right another important issue done on the day it seems that
4:07 pm
don't trump with i postpone a second summit with vladimir putin at least until twenty ninth dean what could be behind not in your opinion. well i mean to me it's clear that the pressure has worked i mean all this these claims about treason and being traitorous worked to pressure him to back off normalizing relations with russia i believe this is being done in the interest of continuing the u.s. on a permanent war footing and wasting trillions of dollars on wars and military equipment that we don't need to and russia is an excuse for that meanwhile i do want to point out though while pundits and politicians have criticized trump for the meeting he actually got a bit a bit of a bump in the polls after meeting with putin and he's actually public support as well eighty eight percent of you know yes the public doesn't seem
4:08 pm
concerned about the russia gate issue and so. to me that's heartening that they're not buying this and just finally done we know that the midterm elections are coming up it does seem i'm not sure if you agree that whenever an election cycle is starting we do hear. what trungpa said that russia witchhunt go into overdrive this isn't going away is it even though so many people have said you know it's not a real thing and it's eclipsing other more pressing issues. i don't see it going away anytime soon i think we're going to see this for many months if not years to come sadly the thoughts of done colic human rights lawyer with interest in international law as well thank you so much then. moving on the number of people killed in
4:09 pm
a series of terror attacks in syria by islamic state has now risen to over two hundred fifteen people another one hundred eighty are injured that's according to sources on the ground that we have heard from what bruni is from r t r a pick she's there. and that's what security has been strengthened since way to prominence after a series of terror attacks currently well in the square near the market where in the morning as you said wal-mart blew himself up in the crowd of people there are still soul around people who are shopping we can still see the puddles of blood and the body parts not far from here and this is the square and the residential area where two of the suicide bombers tried to glow yourselves up at small to iceland carried out a massive offensive in the northeastern part of this way into prominence they managed to take control of several villages in the syrian army that managed to free the territories to support from the locals but not before i still had killed and
4:10 pm
taken several people hostage as well as two homes in the area. you know we also know about the two suicide bombers of the marketplace were shot dead by security forces a third was arrested before they could detonate their explosive devices well this string of attacks. president assad's forces advance against a cell that's in sway the province near the frontier with the israeli controlled gold. the mosque is based correspondent ali moore before we look at the reasons behind such an attack at this time it's because the syrian army is launching an offensive against that and particularly in the southern part of syria particularly inside the country side of this where that also in and valley northwest of fed that are there the army has been carrying out military operations against that and recently there have been advances significant advances for the syrian government forces over there of course backed by russian air force all of the province is now
4:11 pm
secured except for about less than six percent which is are now under the control of the action the army is aiming to secure there also some areas some small towns and villages that the army is working on securing whether militarily or via reconciliation yes so that's the situation in southern syria while still. also appears to be on the rebound in iraq with its fighters launching a guerrilla campaign of kidnapping and killing seven months after the iraqi prime minister declared victory over the group a security advisor to the government told us that the number of terror attacks in the country doubled from may to june. and. in june the ice steps up their activity according to government data there were eighty three cases where the doctors and killed civilians that's twice the number in may when i still had been devastated by the government military crackdown we have asked the iraqi ministry of internal affairs for comments if and when they sent it to us we'll bring it to you now i guess the of the looks of the changing nature of the terror
4:12 pm
threat in iraq and the tactics being employed by a resurgent. it took very needy the entire world united to defeat isis caliphate in syria and iraq they did it they destroyed the caliph it albeit at a huge cost and proclaim victory some did more proclaiming than others coalition to defeat isis has liberated very close to one hundred percent of the territory will do a great job with those as we have just absolutely decimated i was just absolutely obliterated isis in iraq a case of celebrating a little early isis was never beaten and they lost the battles but the war's far from over they've gone back to basics hidden run raids assassinations insurgency terror but. there is still some fear it's possible for groups of
4:13 pm
militants to go into houses and slaughter entire families if you were there you probably know want to stay if i were to go back who would protect me and my family they would just come over and slaughter us and forces in the camp to protect their lives in iraq isis has gone underground these area of iraq is colloquially become known as the triangle of death because of this new insurgency. they operate in small groups half a dozen jihad the most making it incredibly difficult to track them down. because remember there are still a few i saw a sleeper cells hidden in places such as the desert the forests on the islands of the river and among civilians few sleeper cells doesn't do it justice kidnappings killings have sawed as much as ten fold in just
4:14 pm
a few months in iraq a government advisor told us they target officials plan by. farms set up think road blocks and murder will then vanish sometimes with prisoners. the families children of these soldiers that were kidnapped by isis begged the government for help to find whoever kidnapped them to secure their release anything they got nothing. those are the men who protected the prime minister the minister of health and many other things this is their reward for this service been dumped here on the floor. some of the hostages were found dead and their bodies mutilated likely tortured before death and their corpses rigged with explosives and the government's afraid that freed of people finding out how bad it's becoming
4:15 pm
you could have iraqi state media staying silent about the kidnapping also says not to spread panic can hinder the government's rescue the number of ice will kidnappings the surge since many another special forces do not have enough resources to hunt the militants down is they're hiding out in remote mountainous areas i still have managed to find sources of funding in the so-called triangle of death they terrorize the locals hundreds of villages in that area have been deported but now the terrorists use them as military bases jails and commando units iraq is a crossroads it learned to level the cities to defeat isis caliph it but that doesn't work anymore isis is an idea and zealotry fanaticism it's also an outlet for desperation for violence for blood thirst and ideas of the hardness the wall to kill. ok another story that we're
4:16 pm
closely following today. has lashed out at france's media over its handling of the scandal involving the president's top security aide that's after the french leader said he was taking responsibility for his bodyguard attacking a protester picking up the story charlotte. well in the last week french media has been in a complete frenzy over this scandal which emerged involving top security aide alexander. well but now has since been sacked and on tuesday we heard for the first time what president much more made of he said to a group of his deputies of lot of public amash that the buck stops with him that he
4:17 pm
and only he was to blame but then he turned around and then laid the blame at the press in the way that they covered this story essentially saying that the press and commentators were acting like the judiciary and were not looking to seek out the truth so we have media that no longer seeks the truth the images are they showing with the designs on cover the truth to present facts in a balanced manner. i see media powers he want to become judicial ones well we know the president might call on the president from the united states have been pretty chummy for a long time but it seems now that president michel might be taking a leaf out of gold from books in the way that he deals with the mainstream media we know that donald trump has been at war with the mainstream media since before he was even elected interest they could use i don't take questions from i'm against the people that make up stories the level of dishonesty is out of control very
4:18 pm
think the fake news as they want to talk about it but street which is a failing pile of garbage writing it i think they're going to suffer the consequences i'm not going to give you a question you are fake well some may think it's not the best idea for a president not going to follow in the footsteps of a. president trump and we also know that president micron's approval ratings have dropped since this scandal emerged now the russian media and he's long been familiar with criticism and being under fire from president but it now seems that that by not criticism is extending out to all media outlets in france. prosecutors in the case of maria who's accused of being a russian agent in the u.s. say they have a troop of evidence against her amounting to around one and a half million documents most of them were collected from her laptop and mobile
4:19 pm
phones the judge in the case the gag order to prevent the evidence being leaked to the media or any third party attorney so it's taking prosecutors too long to hand over the evidence you've been expressed intent to apply for a dismissal of charges and for the case to be thrown out entirely. is charged with conspiracy to defraud the u.s. for working covertly a foreign agent something she strongly denies the hype over the alleged russian spy was fueled on twitter when one journalist found out apparently that she visited trump in the oval office i learned it was quote highly likely she'd been plenty of other places too.
4:20 pm
yeah as we've been breaking down and lots of legal red tape in this one let's try it on ravel some of it with the international criminal defense lawyer douglas mc
4:21 pm
you're very welcome prosecutors are fearing bush and his attorney will leak evidence of a gag order is being threatened could that be a way for prosecutors to stall presenting evidence or how common the tactic is it to build a better case. it isn't it is not a common tactic however it is something that's available under the law it's not the court to be clear it's not the court or the judge that struck me gag order it's the u.s. government the prosecutor has raised the issue before the court seeking a pro tech dave order that is there basically saying look we're going to provide all this discovery to the defense but we don't want the defense leaking it either to the media or to anyone else because we have an ongoing investigation so the
4:22 pm
court ordered the government to file their motion by a certain giving the defense time to respond to that certain so it's it's it's not something that occurs very frequently but it is provided for in the wall under the law and the government does utilize the advantage of a protective order at times how will the evidence being leaked if it is effect the case from what you've seen of this case. well i only know from what has been from what's been reported and the allegations are that misspoke taina has been charged in count one with a conspiracy that is a partnership involving illegal activity. concerning acting as as as a foreign agent for there to be a conspiracy there has to be at least two or more people involved and then the
4:23 pm
second count is that she has indeed been acting as the allegations are that she is for now huge and the concern concerns the conspiracy and that is the government is alleging that there was an ongoing investigation that they were looking at other individuals and that the government does not want to disclose. by the release of the documents of the demands and anything that might seem pitied that investigation thus the concern by the government is not only the media but it's also providing it to others who may be the subject or a target of the u.s. government's investigation yeah well prosecutors say they have one and a half million files all of it seems to me an incredible amount when there is such a trove of evidence would it be expected that some of it is handed over.
4:24 pm
well all of it had better be turned over by the government to the defense and i think that the government is saying that they're going to do that that they want to do that in compliance with the u.s. federal criminal law but prior to turning that over that want this protective order to be in place. there's also the issue of the transcript apparently mr pena from what's being reported appeared before the u.s. intelligence committee. for at least two hours or so and the defense wants a copy of that transcript. and apparently the defense attorney has been allowed to review that transcript but not allowed to make copies of it or even to take notes from it so he says he's wanting the actual transcript i think he's going to get it the intelligence committee is telling him look we'll be happy to turn it
4:25 pm
over at the government work while still the government needs to ask for it and that is part of pretrial discovery turn it over and the judge has indicated look if you have trouble getting that transcript then let me know and i'll be happy to get involved but let me see if you guys can work this out on your own the defense will get it is just a matter of timing the way the case is going what do you think could happen to to if it goes along the lines that it's currently accelerating out how realistic would it be for her to be released on bail for instance. not going to happen. to the united states federal magistrate judge judge which is a judge that hearsay and national. detention hearings has made the determination that she is mr pena is. a flight risk.
4:26 pm
that if she is released on some sort of conditions that were released some sort of bond but she's likely to take off either to get into the automobile owned by the embassy which are which has a protective status or the embassy itself and of course there's no extradition treaty between the two states being a russian and and the united states so the concern is she's a flight risk the government has a very low burden to show that she's a flight risk that is proposed and so the evidence which is a civil standard so it's not very high now that the defense and rightly so is going to appeal that decision and ask the district court judge that is the trial judge to review that decision and perhaps the trial judge can can fashion some conditions that were released but i doubt that that's going to happen i expect. to stay
4:27 pm
detained pending trial well thanks for breaking done the intricacies of all of the case for as it progresses douglas make knob international criminal defense lawyer from texas today thank you. president trump powers reportedly reached an agreement with the e.u. commission president in washington on targets and trade barriers over the years you know we're losing hundreds of billions of dollars with the european union and we just wanted to be a level playing field so that. well according to the media the agreement includes expanding exports of u.s. liquefied natural gas certain food goods and lower industrial tariffs on both sides despite those deals the open part of the meeting seemed quite tense and in the run
4:28 pm
up to the talks in washington trying to give a blunt assessment of how he currently sees global trade on twitter. with. terrorists of the greatest either a country which is the united states unfairly on trade negotiates a fair deal where he gets hit with terrorists it's as simple as that and everybody's talking remember we the people in this being rocked will be great well after america slapped tariffs on steel another million coming from the e.u. you know almost two months ago the bloc responded with ted for measures the trade standoff hasn't exactly helped create a convene a lot less fear earlier trump went as far as calling the e.u. commission chief a brutal killer while describing europe as an economic full and your group had some choice words of his own. trump told me last week claude you are a brutal killer but it is the first time that luxemburg has become a threat to the united states of america he meant that i think as a complement to them even though i cannot be sure closer than your thoughts also
4:29 pm
now we will also impose import tariffs this is basically a stupid process the fact that we have to do this but we have to do it we will now impose tariffs on motorcycles harley davidsons on blue jeans levis on bourbon we can also do stupid we also have to be this stupid earlier i spoke to economics writer jeffrey albert who believes that trump is not interested in compromise. as a convinced economic nationalist he does not want free trade is tweeting out now terrorists are the greatest terrorists are the greatest i think this phrase is going to go down in history as being a catastrophic ideological opinion what he's doing right now is extremely dangerous he is not interested in any kind of compromise and all this rhetoric. is just bluster about how you want so you're up to end subsidies he said this on the same day that he's subsidizing u.s. farmers for twelve billion dollars to make up for their losses because of his
4:30 pm
tariff war that's what's going on right now and it's a calamity for america and so miserable for producers and really it's affecting the entire world and just before we go in fact if it is seeking inspiration in his meeting he could look to some of the european leaders who have already met with the u.s. leader. the benefit of the state we can't just rely on the superpower of the united states but it's all natural for many decades the united states of america sees itself as a regulatory power for the whole world. is no longer the truth in the future and. i think the new the one issue that could work.
