white nationalist. activists bringing the u.s. capitol to. the first verse three of the deadly charlottesville rally which some republican lawmakers now blame on russia we are live there in moments. in the stories that shape the week moscow say any further tightening of u.s. sanctions is the precursor to economic war after washington announces new penalties over the poisoning of russian double agent. and his daughter in the u.k. . we meet a russian woman who faces imprisonment for terrorism after following her husband to syria where each joint. i told my husband that i want to go back that i couldn't believe that but the moment i started talking about it we had fights he told me if you want to leave leave but i will not let you take the kids away.

with the top stories from the past seven days and right up to the moment developments as well this is the weekly on r.t. international unwelcome our top story america's most notorious far right groups are gathering in washington d.c. along with country demonstrators it comes on the anniversary of the tragic unite the right to rally last year in charlottesville in the state of virginia there exactly one year ago a woman was killed when a car plowed into protesters a warning you may find the video disturbing.

terrorism is is the use of violence to incite terror and fear and of course it was terrorist this egregious display of hatred bigotry and violence on many sides on many sects. well the tragedy spurred numerous rallies in the southern states and enormous racial division across the united states ahead of sunday's on the verse three rallies a republican lawmaker claimed that russia was behind the events in twenty seven days i sat in a closed session briefing probably two months ago about charlottesville with the director of the f.b.i. amongst others and asked if russian intermeddling had to do with fomenting the

flames of what happened in charlottesville i was told yes it did. kill up in is the rally outside the white house a lot of activity behind you there kaleb describe what it's like there. while we're here in lafayette park which is just across the street from the white house now as we understand directly in front of the white house at this time there's roughly twenty four individuals who call themselves white nationalists associated with white supremacy groups and you can't see them because behind me directly behind me there is a crowd of thousands of people that are out here to counter them there are thousands of people here this crowd has been growing since approximately noon on and at this point it just keeps getting bigger our seeing far left activists we're seeing churches community organizations black nationalist organizations just a huge outpouring of thousands of people here to denounce the twenty four

individuals who have in mass in front of the white house with a huge amount of police protection now earlier we did have an opportunity to speak with some of the people who had assembled here at the white house and we were here to talk to them and a lot of these folks who came out to do to counter the ku klux klan to counter the white nationalist a lot of them had different ideas some of them buy into this idea that russia is responsible for divisions in the usa but others do not this is some of what we heard when we spoke to people here as the rally was growing earlier in the day. i think the source of the division is there's always some hatred deep inside in some percentage of people and i think. the source of it is just some of it is natural i think unfortunately when given a platform to let it expand it kind i think it can get easily out of hand so you buy in the idea that it's russia's fault that the people having the rally over there are somehow the fault of russia russian bought tacker facebook yet not even
5:35 pm
a little and why do you think that's so big in the mainstream media why are they pushing that so hard. that's a good question i don't know i think at it kind of it's comforting to hear that this is russia's fault and not something that's been wrong with america since the foundation of this country it's nice to say it's russia's fault go and it's trumps fault and that once trump is gone and once you know the elections are more secure and all races and to fade away because the russian bots or the russian hackers are no longer influencing people to be racist but that's not true it's just a nice story you can tell yourself say this racism and this is the white supremacy the united states is not the fault of the united states the fault of russia are you know whatever else. now when it comes to that russia russia question the crowd is not unified but they are unified in denouncing these forces that are assembled in front of the white house there are a lot of signs invoking memories of what happened one year ago in charlottesville there are a lot of signs invoking the black lives matter movement and opposition to police brutality we're seeing
5:36 pm
a lot of different political forces represented out here community organizations school groups religious organizations a lot of different folks here to counter the very very small crowd of roughly twenty four individuals associated with white supremacist and white nationalist organizations so huge huge turnout here in d.c. to denounce the folks gathered around the white house where there unite the right two point zero rally huge mobilization lots of different forces here lots of different causes represented all of them denouncing the ku klux klan white supremacy ism so quite a diverse crowd out here so far we have not heard any reports of any by. and there anyone being injured huge police presence we are hearing the sound of police helicopters above there are lots of police standing in front of the white supremacy there are there are lots of police elsewhere around the city of the city is on lockdown largely with the natural on a special schedule so situation is tense a lot of anger here a lot of people chanting anger at the white supremacists but as of yet we have not seen any any violence or people hurting each other now the anti fox crowd has come

decked out in body armor gas masks almost as if they're ready for a fight but no fights as of yet have broken out ok giving his sense of what's happening on the ground there near the wife's heist in washington d.c. this hour. well this week washington announced it will impose new sanctions against russia over the poisoning of former russian double agent service kripalani his daughter back in march moscow strenuously denied any involvement in the incident russia's prime minister say yes the further tightening of u.s. sanctions on russia will be viewed as the start of an economic war and moscow will have to react economically politically the u.s. measures will come in two runs the first places limits on financing and export especially on a number of national security goods the second wave in iran in three months time will hit diplomatic relations as well as by king and imports and he takes up the

story. when it comes to global disagreement sanctions that the u.s. weapon of choice as russia's number two at the u.n. put it let us welcome the united sanctions of america well russia is been on the receiving end of plenty of them they stem from allegations of election meddling military aggression human rights abuses all cyber crimes take your pick and the latest well that's of assaults where poisonings washington says it has determined that russia used a military nerve agent to attack form a double agent say script paul and his daughter where are you getting the conclusion that pressure is behind the screen poisoning i would leave it to others to characterize the current state of our understanding of the screen but others haven't given any evidence either just various grades of highly likely is highly likely that russia was responsible we do hold russia culpable culpable culpable
5:39 pm
culpable for the attempted murder and there's been uncertainty from specialists investigating the case. as analysis of the p.c. w.'s report i did to find the country. of origin of the agent used in this attack and we continue to see a sort of a series of corporate baggers here of insinuation that russia is involved which basically is a mood music which is feeding the population in the west with the idea yes it is the russians despite the evidence just a constant constant stream of these. people just accept oh yes it must be the russians therefore that's ok we have asked him point more sanctions it's time that we get all the evidence but my suspicion is that as don't want to happen although that seems of little interest to washington which has found moscow guilty slapped it with new sanctions and strangely given its ninety days to prove it wasn't involved or it will ratchet up the penalties to a whole new level with even talk of branding russia
5:40 pm
a state sponsor of terrorism that regardless of trump. wanting russia as a partner in his fight against terror and the torso doesn't seem to matter that the u.s. itself has a long history of consorting with groups branded as terrorists for instance america's support for the union movement which techie label to terror groups organizing and attempted. sooner or later the united states will make a choice either to. either the bloody. democracy. or how about the american officials here they are a in extremis grip then wish i had been. the headquarters of the republic party there is a viable opposition to the rule of the. position is centered in this room. and let's not forget how america stood alongside the afghan wish i had been in its

battle against the soviet union only to say that to form into al-qaeda the people we are fighting today we funded twenty years ago. america dealing with these five and groups amount to sponsoring terrorism while the state department has a good answer for that i will leave it to others to characterize the current state of our own standing. well apart from sanctions several countries are feeling the fallout from the united states through an economic weight in turkey the e.u. being slapped with a hefty duties on goods coming across the atlantic both seeing tar of some of the minium go up twenty five percent but turkey is feeling it the most with it's subject to about fifty percent tara as you might expect president trump's hardball trade policies are not going down well not the least in germany where business is

or already suffering the economy minister there is warning the u.s. may have gone too. too far and that the trade measures will destroy jobs and economic growth right around the world he also added that it's created an uncertain i pluck for the future a german international relations professor we spoke to believes the u.s. is using trade strategies as a foreign policy to regardless. of the trumpet ministration and its personal appearances in public affairs a rationale behind something he is trying to wage economic war against even against us and by doing this of. threatening them into a lawyer loyalty just obedience and partnership dominated by as you know it's the i think that trump understands military means to me save do not solve problems anymore you have to do it indirectly by. economic political or financial means and

this is what this country is playing out i think. this is this is a policy the host of good answers for and i don't see it's a moment apart from the public appearances of europeans no real answer or counter strategy. to perhaps the most graphic story of the week now senators in the u.s. have accused the government of contributing to another deadly saudi led coalition strike that hit a school bus in yemen on thursday the red cross ace twenty nine children were killed another thirty injured all of them under the age of fifteen the u.s. state department called on the coalition to investigate but underlined as well that saudi arabia is a key regional partner. we call on the saudi led coalition to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident you also supply the tremendous amount of weaponry the m. the data for targeting to the saudis so that. sorry no lie wrong is that
5:44 pm
wrong sorry these ladies every hear a laughing. and that i would refer you to the department of defense that is involved in that but you as you know saudi arabia is an important strategic partner in the region to the united states or a video of the aftermath of the attack shows the extent of the children's injuries please be warned that what we're about to show is upsetting to watch the strike hit the north of the country which is under the control of routing rebels so the arabiya launched an intervention against them in twenty fifteen the latest u.n. day to say that the majority of people killed in the conflict died as a result of coalition air strikes. over ten dollars in fatalities the red cross told our t.v. up the situation in yemen is catastrophic. we have received twenty nine identified these are children up to fourteen years old and forty forty eight injured among
5:45 pm
them thirty children but for the overall told. this needs to be referred to the ministry of health and population of yemen humanitarian situation in the country is catastrophic it's a population that has been brought to the brink of collapse the health system is decimate the movement of population is growing because of. conflicts and hostilities going on so we really do think that more hostilities and you know the expansion of those hostilities with will exacerbate an already dire humanitarian situation even more we see violations cross the.
