allowed to show itself to the world but it doesn't seem that way and actually things are going to be drawn out by the looks of things because nothing was accomplished at these talks we're looking now and next month that we saw a tit for tat now at sixteen billion dollars worth of tariffs thrown in by the states and of course china doing what it does with that same amount back and now we're looking at another two hundred billion in tariffs possibly next month from the us side of course we'll see the chinese throw back at that and don't show up to even say he might push it to five hundred billion dollars now a lot of the analysts are saying that this might be a largely a long term game for trump that he's trying to push a new status quo which would be tariffs specially when dealing with china and some other analysts are saying and this is interesting that at this point if trump was to back down or if this was actually to be resolved he'd come out looking weak because the people would see that these tariffs have actually done more harm than good to the states and that if he was in this terror of war that actually would be

a one win for the states at all so it's better for him to look like a tough guy and just keep this tariff game up there's an old quote about how one of the most valuable philosophies is patience and time is that how china's plan this alex china doesn't really care or you know in the longer look we're playing chicken with a sleeping dragon here and the way it is for china it's going to be tit for tat so they look like the good guys shot of the americans come out they toss tariffs and try to like well we're not going to put more tariffs on your we're just going to do what you're doing and this is what we heard from their from their trade minister and there's a quote directly from him as i should say the finance minister luke own and he said china doesn't wish to engage in a trade war but we will risk resolutely respond to unreasonable measures taken by the united states if the united states persist with these measures we will correspondingly take action to protect our interests that we're hearing that u.s. businesses are being hurt. consumers are being hurt because prices are going up on

products that they use you talk to china they're saying hey you know we are we're not really feeling this too much right now and if anything happens to our manufacturing sector we're just going to put money into it also china says this is the latest that basically we don't want to talk to the states anymore until the midterm elections are over so they're playing that game now hoping that some other people will get into government that they could actually deal with and that's one of the said done and also there put out a complaint to the world trade organization so they're playing actually the nice guy game and who looks like they're the bad guy will that be don't trump on this one and that's exactly what they want to make that states look like yeah they bent all lobbyist have been here in town going up and down the street everybody from the auto makers to sausage casing makers saying this is going to be a problem are to correspondent alex mahela bitch thanks alex great weekend to you ship. and time now for a quick break but hang here because when we come back attorney andre barlow joins us to consider the technology sector in light of

seas. no problem. welcome back updating the labor situation irish airline iranian air the rolling strikes an underlying dispute between pilots and management that we told you about earlier this month appears to be resolved negotiators work for twenty two hours to produce a draft agreement that will now go to a vote by members of the union representing four thousand ryan air pilots if the workers vote to approve ryanair will then take the issue to their board for some members have walked out more than one over one one time over grievances that

the foreign corrupt practices act microsoft's legal team says they began to investigate themselves once they learned of potential problems and are cooperating with justice and the f.c.c. officials the journal points out that microsoft came under similar investigative scrutiny back in twenty thirteen over such practices in china romania italy pakistan and russia it's unclear if those investigations have been closed. while many search engines exist google is certainly the eight hundred pound gorilla in the industry space earlier this year the european union fined google over five billion dollars related to charges the company was inappropriately dissing competitors by excluding them or placing them far down in search results the circumstances reminded us of the first major tech giant and i trust cases and we thought the subject deserved a little deeper dive in here to jump into the and i trust paul with us is andre barlow of the firm doyle barlow and mazhar i'm very welcome we're glad to have you
9:09 am
back with us you know most people had their computers back then they were microsoft computers and even. they weren't microsoft computers then the other computers had the microsoft word on it they had all the programs on it and then in one nine hundred ninety eight there was a really this big first court case take it from there. the is a fascinating case the d.o.j. was alleging there that microsoft had a monopoly in the operating system basically windows and they probably had about ninety percent market share or something to that effect and microsoft at the time was concerned back in the mid ninety's netscape had come out with an internet browser and that was the most popular browser around obviously netscape doesn't exist today and that's what this case was about. you know so they had a very high market share and microsoft was concerned that netscape was going to
9:10 am
basically take over that it was going to be a threat to its operating system so instead of just competing fairly and coming out with a new internet browser to compete fairly what they did is they came out with internet explorer and they integrated it with the operating system and at the same time they entered into exclusive contracts with the p.c. manufacturers that would would make sure that the default was always going to be the internet explorer is basically ran netscape out of business and that was what the case was about the judge he ruled in favor of the d.o.j. decided in their favor saying that. this predatory tactic that was used was was done to maintain the monopoly in the operating system ok so with that as the basis it was it was that sort of that sort of set the stage for future antitrust litigation in this in the in the case law and how is that standard being used if so
9:11 am
now well you know it's interesting because i think it set the stage for. or companies like google and apple to be successful it allowed them to actually enter and compete so so and i trust and force me to lead to innovation and now you know what we're thinking about and i trust enforcement rethinking about what actions may be taken against these major companies that have major platforms but yes i think you know the standard was set there basically what we're talking about is a monopolist of a platform has to be very careful in terms of what they do to exclude their rivals ok so do we think that when you look at that standard that you eloquently described and is in place here do we see similarities between the u.s. and i trust circumstances in the e.u. circumstances that they just recently used you know there's a difference there's a huge difference with the e.u.
9:12 am
in the cases that they've been bringing against google under their law there is a special responsibility for a monopolist to not hinder competition in the united states we focus more on an evidence based approach if you go back to that microsoft case there was a heck of a lot of evidence a lot of e-mails you know deposition from bill gates and you know so there was there was a lot there on what their motivation was and what their intentions were very interesting thank you for going deeper with us that we appreciate it andre barlow law firm of doyle barlow mazhar appreciate every great weekend you. and in the continuing story we've been covering the lawsuits against the month santo company are increasing exponentially as recall the chemical giant now owned

werner bowman released a statement saying nothing has changed concerning our strategy attractive synergy potential and longer term growth and margin expectations for our combined crop science business we are very optimistic for the future so still saying that they're going to buy every verdict that they've come across and will come across will be fighting for a long time i'm so glad you had more time this week because i know we had to cut short the other day and you're a couple of questions that i just wanted to get to and one is that when these things cereals accept or are processed does that somehow milieu or lessen the glaive a good. of these things so it wouldn't be weird if you're eating like a rock to be healthy and then all of a sudden you're getting more gleeful state and that's that's kind of the problem so far in twenty seventeen but in jerry's for example tested some tubs in in europe ice cream tubs in europe found that thirteen of the fourteen tubs contain traces of

life to say now they found they didn't find any in the u.s. because they didn't test so still they are committed to providing a life is a free ingredient and they've come out with the statement as well on their page saying that they want to go organic and be. free but people like just yesterday nature valley and all of ours just released a statement saying that they're removing one hundred percent natural from their label because they really want to commit to avoiding these litigation costs and fighting this and really trying to go one hundred percent organic so they're moving a label and this could set a precedent for future brands and things that they're they're going forth general mills was found themselves with their first lawsuit by a florida woman just last week because she's been eating cheerios regularly so she too is suing for saying that cereal knew they contain glyphosate but never it was never labeled in the ingredients so the labeling here to this is very interesting

top stories here on r.t. international foreign assistance sales on credit lines to russia are all the focus of fresh u.s. sanctions targeting moscow we understand they come into force on monday. with brazil presidential election looming the latest polls jailed former leader silva out in front. of peers intent on renewed trade talks with china beijing has reportedly decided to wait and see them in full given pietschmann until after the mid-term election. and so former first minister of the sexual misconduct inquiry. project claims and strikes back with
9:21 am
a legal challenge and he did give us his side of the story. like this the pains of having a fear of having a field. i'm not afraid the scottish government process doesn't do that you don't get to see the evidence you don't get to present your case. top stories on a saturday here on our international welcome to the program. the united states says that fresh sanctions against russia will kick off on monday and penalties are linked to claims that the kremlin orchestrated a nerve agent attack in the u.k. and will target russia's financial sector as well as certain arms sales to moscow reporting from washington. now the new batch of sanctions will come into force on august twenty seventh and will prohibit russia from importing secure u.s.
9:22 am
goods and technology related to national security but there were also a few waivers first the foreign assistance act which would have terminated all aid to russia except for urgent humanitarian assistance is waived second the prohibition on arms sales that was introduced in two thousand and fourteen will also be waived determined on a case to case basis a state department official said that these waivers are essential to national security third arms sales of financing which has been in place already sanctions will deny u.s. government credit and financial assistance ban exports of secure goods and tech a few days ago president putin said that these sanctions were counterproductive let's take a look at this it's a song regarding the sanction of judge actions are counterproductive and meaningless especially when it comes to the other free market losers it's not just about the u.s. president's position is that it's about the position of the so-called establishment willing to hold on to. the realisation little this policy has never future will come one day still something that i want to write in a normal fashion just because these sanctions were announced earlier this month
9:23 am
over russia's alleged involvement in the script hall poisoning which there still is no evidence for russia has repeatedly denied its involvement and has even offered its assistance to the quay and investigating the incident but this was apparently ignored now as russia gets slapped with sanctions it's very likely that we'll see russia respond with to for tat measures can stone from the hamilton coalition to stop the war told us why this sanctions will have the opposite effect to the one intended. it's time that united states the hard to realize that in these days of the uni polar world are over and the united states needs to have a meaningful consultation rather than hysterical accusations with russia that russia does not need u.s. military assistance russia has developed cutting edge systems which are in demand all over the world all that the u.s. is really doing is forcing russia to become even more self-sufficient than it was
9:24 am
before so these military sensors against russia are going to have exactly the opposite effect this is completely a fabricated issue this hysteria over russia and the sooner the american government grows up and acts like an adult the sooner the sad for the american people and the rest of the world of course it will be. so trump russia could have been stories gaining momentum get again but now one u.s. t.v. channel is under fire with an even suspected of having direct links to the kremlin to holkins looks into the cloud. we've all heard about trump russian election collusion you know the great scam that brought the u.s. president to power he was asian of collusion collude passably smells a whole lot like collusion there was ample evidence of collusion where is the cold loser you know there's no looking for collusion where is the delusion finds
9:25 am
a delusion little did we know the conspiracy goes deeper now it's in the media it started with the trump tweet on proposed land expropriations and alleged murders of white farmers in south africa covered prior to this by fox news president of south africa's pows has begun and you may have seen this in the press seizing land from his own citizens without compensation because they are the wrong skin color that is literally the definition of racism it's a story that's been making headlines for quite some time in different outlets and in multiple countries but there's just too many coincidences here coverage by r.t. to that list throw in russia and things get heated i'm simply shocked shocked shocked that r.t. has also been pushing a story line similar to tucker carlson's about threats facing white south african farmers including this family they claim sought refuge in russia. thanks for
9:26 am
pointing out i did know that threats to south african farmers was a major story on r.t. there must surely be a link here a fox news report trump's twitter feed r t there's a clear pattern if of course we ignore the fact this shuttle has covered related issues in south africa for quite some time the south african parliament has voted in favor of new legislation that could see land from white farmers seized south africa's government has vowed to tackle violent crime a problem that it says raises an equal threat for all races living in the country just outside south africa's capital stands the statue of the man who was behind the earthly policies of apartheid it's a whites only enclave which allows black visit is only under special permit the discrimination of the apartheid in south africa has long come turn that all the evidence is obvious trumps been talking to the russians again and r.t.e. collude with fox on what to cover when and how it all adds up this u.s.

administration just loves putin and next time you see reports in russian media that's also covered by other media that's also been tweeted by trump you'll know what's really going on. brazil's presidential election is now about a month away but the current favorite in the polls faces a major uphill battle that's because lula da silva the former president is currently lingering in jail artie's within a quarter of a reporter's. brazil's presidential election is looming and the latest polls to show one clear favorite and he is a familiar face lula da silva his companion has all the regular features rallies full of adoring supporters the. merchandise branding his name and the must have complained ad set to traumatic music.

a hero of the working class as the economy soared during his eight years at the how finishing back in twenty eleven. although for sound has become associated it's with the barrage of political scandals that have hit brazil corruption was rampant all people in the workers' party were corrupt that used again very flimsy trumped up charges of the group but it was the entire political system so yes the population obviously was. it's a government in power when there is rampant corruption but the corruption was all the political parties and looking at his present selves busy visiting schedule taking his plans seriously just this week he was reportedly visited by the had of brazil's most powerful trade union and his phys presidential running mate brazil's thirty fifth president currently occupies a fourteen square meter room and is reportedly allowed to wear his own cloth thing

has said to have his own t.v. and a trad mel where he jocks for miles daily still that's a long shot even follow up convicted felons are banned from running for office and electoral court is expected to declare him in alledge of zero in coming weeks lou is not going to be able to run what he's trying to do is to increase as much as possible support for the workers' party and then so he wants to keep that alive his candidacy is alive for as long as possible and then at the last minute when his no longer possible transfer all of that support that he is building up currently so his vice presidential running mate running mate which is his favored candidate to replace him if he can't run and again that fernando who was a the mayor of san pablo and is not popular at all while things look unpredictable now one thing a certain election season and brazil has an incentive twist just yet and in a question r.t. we spoke to the express.
