a western intervention according to information confirmed by several independent sources terrorist group to here. is preparing another provocation and that implicating the syrian government in the use of chemical weapons against the civilian population it looked province the provocation which is being organized with the active help of british intelligence services is intended to serve as yet another pretext for a missile strike by the u.s. the u.k. and france against state and industry facilities in syria iraq to read as their terrorist organization just mentioned as one of syria's most powerful is a myth faction let's take a quick look at the group. thank you thank you. thank you.

and just a few days ago the u.s. national security adviser john bolton said america would bring its light to bear should a chemical attack happen in syria. we now see the plans for the syrian regime to resume offensive military activities and we are obviously. about the possibility that it may use chemical weapons again we had hoped that our strikes had created structures of deterrence to convince the assad regime not to do that we hope that's right but just so there's no confusion here if the syrian regime uses chemical weapons we will respond very strongly i think washington is preparing for a strike in the region and for all the wrong reasons you know i think you got to look at the bigger picture of what's happening in syria america is looking
1:34 pm
increasingly significant i mean to use the term illusions is almost an understatement they don't really seem to have any real impact on the ground anymore with the biggest ally in the whole region the kurds in the last few days looking more and more like is it going to strike a deal with the assad regime so you've got a certain amount of embarrassment on trump's side you know people in america not just media but all sorts of people are asking well what is america actually doing there on the ground syria's italy a province where the russian military says the provocation is being planned as the country's biggest rebel stronghold a province is dominated by islamist groups including high right to a writ where the government forces we capturing ever more territory rebels have had to flee if lip sometimes as part of negotiated with treats it is now the last significant rebel held area in syria martin j. again thinks the province's of power amounts importance to all parts of the conflict both regional and global. and now we have left now is it lip which is has

our laws that say the collapse when the soviet union collapsed because the u.s. meddling in boris yeltsin and all that's going on they had this skyrocketing alcoholism and. here in the u.s. because you have this enormous financial aid reengineering take all the money being printed and put in the pockets of a few folks and leave the vast majority in a state of zombification this is the collapse gap he was talking about the u.s. and the soviet union both collapsed in the one thousand nine hundred ninety period it just took a stake in the u.s. as he describes it you know longer to realize that collapse.

welcome back the former first minister of scotland alex salmond is taking the country's government to court he claims its inquiry into his alleged sexual misconduct is illegal the case revolves around allegations of sexual harassment made by two star for years and has since been passed to police the incumbent first minister nicholas sturgeon who is a close ally of some and says she wants to see the investigation move ahead even though it could have and there's are about the ramifications for her party. for my party this will be extremely upsetting to members of the s.n.p. up and down the country it's a difficult situation but what is important is that completes our treaties
1:38 pm
seriously regardless of who the person complained a boat is i can confirm that the scottish government receives two complaints in january in relation to alec sam and mr sam and was notified of the complaints in march and phoned to mr simonds and the people involved on wednesday august the twenty second of my conclusions and the time was considering the public interest in making the fact of the complaints and investigation publicly known i know is that the full methodist minister has indicated his intention to challenge the action taken by the scottish government the scottish government will defend its position vigorously the allegations made against some and pertain to events that allegedly occurred back in twenty thirteen the former first minister has flatly denied that clay was calling the government's complaints process unfair and unjust we spoke to him about the case. i for future the complaints that were made
1:39 pm
against me and i have sued deny any semblance of criminality. so when you have such things you need a process which is both confidential and fair and most reasonable people will understand and what i am not frightened of going to the highest court in the land to establish that it seems the scottish government looks a bit shaky in their position or anything like this depends on having a fair show having a feel opportunity and overfed the scottish government process doesn't do that he don't get to see the evidence you don't get to present your own case was barred from speaking to any civil servant many of whom incidentally have texted me today saying why didn't you come to us to support your position well the reason is i was banned from doing that by miss leslie evans the family sent to the scottish government i wasn't allowed to contact them directly so if you can't present your own case you've got an unjust process. these investigations depend on could vent
1:40 pm
cadenza confidentiality if you don't have that then how and there are people going to have the confidence to complete in future because not just the person complained of oh it's the confidentiality of the complainants and the scottish government would break the lack of that in jollity so we told them and to not make that statement because we were taking the action in the court of session but it's an extraordinary situation when the scottish government starts to break its order confidentiality after the shooting everybody connected with this that that was going to be absolutely protected for the process. well let's understand the unique about the scottish government process of the talking about events of many years ago when i'm not a serving scottish government minister not even an m.p. or m.s.p. at the present moment and therefore it's really important if you try and introduce such a retrospective to see. do you make sure that the passion who is being complained of it has the opportunity to properly present the case the scottish government's

been making the position look the should apply to everybody including former first ministers i absolutely agree and everybody including former first ministers everybody in the land is intitled to a fear of process and a chance to state the case fairly what could be wrong without the vote you know we're a say the only good i can see coming out of this is we're on our way to the court of session that's a real court of real judgment with fear process is the only decision and then we'll all have to valuable. the recent tweet suggested donald trump is eager to engage in fresh trade talks with china it appears beijing is less keen and it talks of impeachment reports say the chinese are waiting till after the us mid-term to see how things pan out for the american president artie's callup morgan explains. frayed talks between the usa and china have failed again now trump would like to
1:42 pm
push all the blame on to beijing however the situation deal mess to clean might have more to do with it chinese state media is openly arguing the trump is using the trade wars and tariffs as a gimmick in order to win political support trump likely to films accord ahead of midterm elections the meet term elections are one of the key reasons the u.s. has maintained a tough stance toward china they'd list to say china is not eager to play into trump's hand officials there and reportedly said that they're suspending the talks until after the midterm vote it makes pretty good sense for china to cancel the talks until after november why because of the midterm vote doesn't go in terms favor it could be more than congress that's up for change i don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job if i ever got a ph i think the market would pressure i think everybody would be very poor might think trumps playing with fire by saying i'm doing a good job don't impeach me especially when it's pretty clear that the i word is on
1:43 pm
everyone's mind you could say it's the talk of the town in washington d.c. could he be impeached with this impeach trump the idea of impeachment time for impeachment you could have even been preachment is probably likely but there is i think a lot for the president to fear compared to the previous administration top seems to have done almost a one eighty when it comes to dealing with the people's republic of china we welcome the peaceful. rise of china consistent with international norms that's good for everybody we are being taken advantage of and i don't like it so you have to ask the question are those who talk about impeaching donald trump really doing american business is a favor after all the idea that donald trump might be packing his bags after november doesn't really put him in a strong spot when it comes to practicing his art of the deal mantra the chinese have adopted fairly strong if not hard line position for the time being the chinese
1:44 pm
feel that they have been be treated and mr trump post not followed through on his word they heard a joint statement and a consensus that north tariffs were going to be issued the china agreement are collapsed within a week and at this point of time there's just no trumpet nor trust in his ward and i do not see. serious decisions and serious outcomes coming out from these discussions over the next couple of months china is holding on to beyond the mid-term elections and i think it's a very good strategy. barcelona's a little messy real madrid's so here every mile sound that the club captains in spain's top football league are poised to go on strike now softer league of officials signed a deal with an american company to host regular season matches on u.s. soil spanish founds aren't thrilled either at the prospect of having to fork out and fly out as our team to lexi explains. shocker in spanish football
1:45 pm
real madrid and f.c. barcelona are not loved as much anymore by their home fans the opening games for the giants so the lowest stadium attendance for both in a decade with ryall you can try to attribute this to a certain number seven leaving the club for italy but leo messi is men are not used to seeing dwindling support at camp now or maybe fans voted with their feet because both games kicked off very late quarter past ten pm on a sunday night madrid's german superstar twenty cross could not hide his feelings on twitter to boot the timetable of the game so late. even later worked. too late for the children league bosses have now gone even further signing an agreement with american company relevant sports to have at least one game between spanish superclubs played on the u.s. soil yes you heard it right spanish domestic league played in the united states in
1:46 pm
miami to be precise and i was there last year at a sold out friendly version of al classical reale vs boxer where tickets to what essentially was an exhibition game started at a whopping three hundred dollars that i would get you a season ticket for all home games at most spanish clubs but charlie still eternal owner of relevant sports told me that was not enough as someone turned to me when i was three to two and they were still going back and forth and up and down he said maybe you should have charged more for this. while the company claims the move would boost popularity of the game across the pond many believe it will only line corporate pockets at the expense of ordinary fans. didn't need any of that let me show you.
1:47 pm
the dozen things that. what. the bus or the country but all these are suffering more than that they only think about money and imagine if that game thousands of kilometers away is decisive for winning the league or surviving in it and the spanish fans are not exactly the richest in the world that's why not only them but players themselves have been outraged the spanish football is association lumb bastid this deal in a statement and to add even more fuel to the fire the captains of all twenty league clubs you name is lee sad they could go on strike i don't share something that will go to the end we unanimously against and when we complain it's because we believe that our rights have been violated so that's enough so we will go until the end of the deal found shock waves across the old world with many in england fearing that the f.a. could follow in the league as footsteps it didn't help that silly town openly stated that he wanted to bring english football across the atlantic too and with

joins us all this and much more but first let's get to a few stories topping today's financial and business headlines saudi arabia is leading a report today as a saudi for sovereign wealth fund is reportedly seeking eleven billion bucks in bank loans in the second big story from saudi this week after a giant saudi aramco one of the largest and most profitable companies on the planet either canceled or postponed plans for the hotly anticipated initial public offering reuters reported the i.p.o. had been abandoned but then the saudi energy minister insisted it will quote happen at an appropriate time now the saudis and de facto leader crown prince mohammed bin solomon or m.b.a.'s are turning to international lenders to provide the capital that was expected to come from that i.p.o. those funds in turn will stand simply finance m.b.a.'s a so-called vision twenty thirty project to reform and diversify saudi arabia's the

economy and address the nation's overwhelming dependence upon oil and as a programming note we'll have more next time. i'm on the aramco i.p.o. and oil prices. and heading down under now to update a situation we touched on earlier this week australian prime minister malcolm turnbull has been deposed opposed by rivals within his own party that comes in the wake of a bruising battle on climate and energy policy that reported the pm abandon efforts on those policies monday under pressure from his right flank on wednesday he abandoned a tax cut bill after a defeat in the australian senate he seemed to be tossing things overboard an effort to stay politically afloat mr turnbull then lost a vote on within his leadership party to be conservative to conservative rival scott morrison who had been serving as treasurer mr morrison is australia's six prime minister in eleven years mr turnbull incidentally also became prime minister
1:52 pm
by get this the posing a party leader speaking to reporters mr turnbull was indignant. if you decide you know the strains will be just. dumbstruck and so pulled by the conduct of the last week. you know two to imagine that a government would be rocked by this sort of dysmorphia altie and deliberate. insurgency is the best way to describe it deliberate destructive action. at a time when you know the debt there are differences on policy but frankly all of them are. sort of result you know able to be resolved with a little bit of goodwill. politics as they say is a full contact sport. and turning from politics to economics australian policy makers have stepped into a familiar controversy and barred chinese tech firms while way n.z. t.

eat from any role in building a national five g. internet infrastructure on the island continent while way official responded on twitter pressing disappointment as well as protesting that it is privately held firm the role of chinese firms in five g. projects and and wall ways specifically has become a contentious issue in the u.s. but even more so in australia questions of excessive chinese economic influence and concerns about attempts to spy on the making of aussie foreign policy have roiled internal politics now two ministers including the new prime minister mr morrison and one of his final acts as treasurer have declared companies that quote are likely to be subject to extrajudicial directions from a foreign government will be banned from five g. projects though neither name neither company was named.

in his speech today at the jackson hole symposium that we noted felt a reserve chairman jay powell laid out what seems to be many solid and sanguine outlook for the future the chairman said he sees little if any risk of an overheating economy and he expects strong u.s. economic progress to continue he also said while there is no clear signal inflation is accelerating beyond what the fed targets they will do whatever it takes to address inflation should it become problematic here discusses the always oppressive and thought provoking c.e.o. of quill intelligence daniel de martino boot who joins us from dan dallas daniel welcome what's your overall take on the speech. you know i think the speech it was very much jay powell esque he was painfully balanced in his remarks he brought up a lot of good points though that i think many have not touched on. the markets obviously closed near their highs of the session based on the what you just
1:55 pm
mentioned that there were there was no risk of the economy overheating at the moment but bart i was really intrigued with what he had to say in his speech about inflation not necessarily being what should guide monetary policy makers given that the last two recessions have been not preceded by inflation overheating but rather by the financial markets overheating so it's a nuance as a statement that he put in there but it was very critical from the perspective of people who follow the markets as we do and you can help me understand something because i use a phrase that i've heard before but it's really being used in the wake of the speech and that phrase is a neutral setting that rates are in a neutral setting and and people are suggesting maybe that setting is you know two point five or three percent but what constitutes a neutral setting danielle and and are those the correct rates for such a neutral setting. well neutral really just means the rate
1:56 pm
of the federal funds rate that overnight that will not cause the it's the goldilocks rate that will not cause the it's the goldilocks rate the economy will not overheat nor will the economy slow at this particular neutral rate the economy can just hum along it's a very idealistic notion it is the ultimate target of all central bankers worldwide for them to find that perfect not too hot not too cold rate palettes of what they stated that he would prefer that that neutral rate be closer to three percent which implies at least another four more rate hikes in the current tightening cycle clearly some of the more devilish people on the federal open market committee and others who would prefer interest rates to stay low or would rather that neutral rate be a lot closer to two percent and president trump is made it pretty clear that he thinks rates should stay low but you know that comes from his perspective right the
1:57 pm
president comes from a real estate and business and so of course he likes lower rates we'd all like to buy things that cheaper rates but what are the reasons the monetary policy reasons danielle not to raise rates. well there are reasons not to raise rates if you if you fear that the economy is slowing and powell brought that out in his speech today that and naturally that came out in the minutes from the federal open market committee that were released on wednesday as well that there are several threats to the economy that could indeed put the fed on hold make them pull back from this tightening cycle perhaps go in september but pause it in december and maybe not go again until january until they have a little more clarity but we know that residential housing for example has has begun to slow down they boycott concerns about that in the minutes and then there's always the possibility that the trade war continues to escalate and that of course will will continue to slow the economy to slow corporate profit growth as well
1:58 pm
we'll get a better picture into that next wednesday with the second release of the second quarter g.d.p. which will give us our first look at what profits are according to the to government statistics great we look forward to that and when the chairman testified before congress last month danielle he was pretty diplomatic and political if you will answering questions about the potential impact to the trade wars on our economy but but doesn't that issue have to be front and center what the fed governors are looking to going forward i mean i recall it was mentioned a little bit in the minutes from the meeting but isn't a trade war an obvious thing that that could put the brakes on the growing economy . well i think that because a trade war and he could nomic speak translates into higher inflation then of course the fed would be irresponsible and derelict in its duties if it was not discussing the trade war and again that that's that's why this subject came up in
1:59 pm
the minutes that were released earlier this week by every right they should be talking about the potential for the trade war to bleed into rising prices and that's exactly where their focus is and that's exactly where their focus should be part danielle you're always so insightful for us help explain things that a base level and then take us even deeper we sure appreciate it the c.e.o. of quill intelligence daniel de martino boots thanks danielle thank you have a great weekend. it's been a week of trade talks on tariffs and the potential economic impact of those tariffs and the efforts to strike a new deal with mexico for the latest on mexico canada nafta the north american free trade agreement and the ongoing trade tensions with china we are joined by artie's alex mileage from toronto alex thanks for being with us let's start with nafta perhaps or maybe it's better to talk about the bilateral mexico u.s. trade deal of might that might be more appropriate what's going on. well we were
2:00 pm
hoping to see a trade deal this week actually between mexico and the states that doesn't look like it's going to happen now the sticking point really is automotive looks like these talks are going to be pushed into next week and i think all three parties including canada are hoping to see some results from these talks simply because we've heard from mexico saying that we need to get this phase done so that can take either candidate can be included in the talks once again we know that president trump has played a tricky game with the with canada mexico a first at the very beginning of the nafta talks kind of pushing mexico aside and now he's pushing canada aside and dealing directly with the mexicans but as i mentioned all three parties are hoping that this is going to move forward at least the mexicans and canadians are and by the way it looks things are pretty positive right now but these nafta talks you never know until somebody signs that dotted line absolutely and in addition to the mexican negotiators there's been a chinese delegation here in washington and they're.
