might that might be more appropriate what's going on. well we were hoping to see a trade deal this week actually between mexico and the states that doesn't look like it's going to happen now the sticking point really is automotive looks like these talks are going to be pushed into next week and i think all three parties including canada are hoping to see some results from these talks simply because we've heard from mexico saying that we need to get this phase done so that can take either candidate can be included in the talks once again we know that president trump has played a tricky game with the with canada mexico a first at the very beginning of the nafta talks kind of pushing mexico aside and now he's pushing canada aside and dealing directly with the mexicans but as i mentioned all three parties are hoping that this is going to move forward at least the mexicans and canadians are and by the way it looks things are pretty positive right now but these nafta talks you never know until somebody signs that dotted line absolutely and in addition to the mexican negotiators there's been a chinese delegation here in washington and they're currently however seems to be
2:01 pm
no end in sight to the to protet trade war what's the goal of the administration here just to draw this thing out or they really want to get something done you know but we've been talking about this forever it seems like in the whole fact of the matter is i i was wrong in the beginning i honestly thought the trip was going to play the short game and just basically you know come in and really hard line and that somehow he was going to push china into a position where or that he even talked to president jiang that they had some sort of resolution after this you know tough guy image was allowed to show itself to the world but it doesn't seem that way and actually things are going to be drawn out by the looks of things because nothing was were accomplished at these talks we're looking now next month that we saw a tit for tat now at sixteen billion dollars worth of tariffs thrown in by the states and of course china doing what it does is that same amount back and now we're looking at another two hundred billion in tariffs possibly next month from the u.s. side of course will see the chinese throw back at that and don't show up to even
2:02 pm
say you might push it to five hundred billion dollar. now a lot of the analysts are saying that this might be a largely a long term game for trump that he's trying to push a new status quo which would be tariffs specially when dealing with china and some other analysts are saying and this is interesting that at this point if trump was to back down if this was actually to be resolved he'd come out looking weak because the people would see that these tariffs have actually done more harm than good to the states and that if he was in this tariff war that actually would be a one win for the states at all so it's better for him to look like a tough guy and just keep this tariff game up there's an old quote about how one of the most of valuable philosophies is patience and time is that how china's planned this alex china doesn't really care or you know in the longer look we're playing chicken with a sleeping dragon here and the way it is for china it's going to be tit for tat so they look like the good guys shot of the americans come out they toss tariffs and
2:03 pm
china's like well we're not going to put more tariffs on your we're just going to do what you're doing and this is what we heard from there from their trade minister and there's a quote directly from him as i should say the finance minister luke own and he said china doesn't wish to engage in a trade war but we will risk resolutely response to unreasonable measures taken by the united states if the united states persist with these measures we will correspondingly take action to protect our interests now we're hearing that u.s. businesses are being hurt consumers are being hurt because prices are going up on products that they use you talk to china they're saying hey you know we are we're not really feeling this too much right now and if anything happens to our manufacturing sector we're just going to put money into it also china says this is the latest that basically we don't want to talk to the states anymore until the midterm elections are over so they're playing that game now hoping that some other people will get into government that they could actually deal with and that's once said done and also there put out
2:04 pm
a complaint to the world trade organization. so they're playing actually the nice guy game and who looks like they're the bad guy without the don't trip on this one and that's exactly what they want to make that states look like yeah they've been all lobbyist have been here in town going up and down the street everybody from the auto makers to sausage casing makers saying this is going to be a problem are to correspondent alex mahela bitch thanks alex great weekend do you tip. and time now for a quick break but hang here because when we come back attorney andre barlow joins us to consider the technology sector in light of a recent european union antitrust decision plus months santo and bears posts a grief continues as more products are impacted and a cavalcade of court cases are filed are t. correspondent sara mont is the focus joins us as we go to break here the digital details of the closing bell all green arrows on the big board with both the s. and p. five hundred and nasdaq hitting intraday high rise earlier today and nasdaq still climbing to

a new heights as we went to air we'll be right back. welcome
2:06 pm
back updating the labor situation of irish airline iranian air the rolling strikes an underlying dispute between pilots and management that we told you about earlier this month appears to be resolved negotiators work for twenty two hours to produce a draft agreement that will now go to a vote by members of the union representing four thousand ryan air pilots if the workers vote to approve ryanair will then take the issue to their board for some members have walked out more than over one one time over grievances that they're leaving transfers were unfair and their desire to bring their pay closer to rates of other airlines leading to hundreds of canceled flights even worse the u.k.
2:07 pm
guardian reports ryanair had to apologize last week after checks to compensate passengers who were impacted by those strikes went out with out needed signatures think the irish would say they were doing a number on their customers while. corporate crime news investigators at the u.s. depart. of justice and the securities exchange commission are scrutinizing the methods microsoft used to get a foothold in hungary the wall street journal reports investigators believe microsoft sold their familiar software products to intermediaries at a discount and then the middlemen then sold the software to public agencies and governments at a higher price gouging those and users justice an s.t.c. investigators want to determine if the profit those middlemen theoretically received was diverted into bribes and whether official charges can be brought under the foreign corrupt practices act microsoft's legal team says they began to investigate themselves once they learned to potential problems and are cooperating
2:08 pm
with justice and the f.c.c. officials the journal points out that microsoft came under similar investigative scrutiny back in two thousand and thirteen over such practices in china romania italy pakistan and russia it's unclear if those investigations have been closed. while many search engines exist google is certainly the eight hundred pound gorilla in the industry space earlier this year the european union fined google over five billion dollars related to charges the company was inappropriately dissing competitors by excluding them or placing them far down in search results the circumstances reminded us of the first major tech giant and i trust cases and we thought the subject deserved a little deeper dive in here to jump into the and i trust paul with us is andre barlow of the firm doyle barlow and mazhar i'm very welcome we're glad to have you back with us you know most people had their computers back then they were microsoft computers and even if they weren't microsoft computers then the other computers had
2:09 pm
the microsoft word on it they had all the programs on it and then in one nine hundred ninety eight there was a really this big first court case take it from there all right the it's a fascinating case d.o.j. was alleging there that microsoft. had a monopoly in the operating system basically windows and they probably had about ninety percent market share or something to that effect and microsoft at the time was concerned back in the mid ninety's netscape had come out with an internet browser and that was the most popular browser around obviously netscape doesn't exist today and that's what this case was about. you know so they had very high market share and microsoft was concerned that netscape was going to basically take over that it was going to be a threat to its operating system so instead of just competing fairly and coming out with a new internet browser to compete fairly what they did is they came out with
2:10 pm
internet explorer and they integrated it with the operating system and at the same time they entered into exclusive contracts with the p.c. manufacturers that would would make sure that the default was always going to be the internet explorer this basically ran netscape out of business and that was what the case was about the judge ruled in favor of the d.o.j. decided in their favor saying that. this predatory tactic that was used was was done to maintain the monopoly in the operating system ok so with that as the basis it was it was that sort of that sort of set the stage for future antitrust litigation in this in the in the case law and how is that standard being used if so now well you know it's interesting because i think it set the stage for companies
2:11 pm
like google and apple to be successful it allowed them to actually enter and compete so so and i trust and fauresmith lead to innovation and now you know when we're thinking about and i trust in forest rethinking about what actions may be taken against these major companies that have major platforms but yes i think. you know the standard was set there basically what we're talking about is a monopolist of a platform has to be very careful in terms of what they do to exclude their rivals ok so do we think that when you look at that standard that you eloquently described and is in place here do we see similarities between the u.s. and i trust circumstances and the e.u. circumstances that they just recently used you know there's a difference there's a huge difference with the e.u. and the cases that they've been bringing against google under their law there is a special responsibility for
2:12 pm
a monopolist to not hinder competition in the united states we focus more on an evidence based approach if you go back to that microsoft case there was a heck of a lot of evidence a lot of e-mails you know deposition from bill gates and you know so there was there was a lot there on what their motivation was and what their intentions were very interesting thank you for going deeper with us that we appreciate it andre barlow the law firm of doyle barlow mazhar appreciate a great weekend you. and in the continuing story we've been covering the lawsuits against the month santo company are increasing exponentially as recall the chemical giant now owned by giant drug the german drug maker bair there are giant two was ordered to pay two hundred eighty nine million dollars to
2:13 pm
a california man dying of cancer after years of use of months we've killed which contain the chemical posts eight months into his weed killers including the well known round up are now this subject of intense and increased focus as lawsuits have risen from fifty two hundred to roughly eight thousand cases and here to discuss the legal quandary and more is hard to correspondents. been covering the story for us what's been going on since we spoke i think on monday sara so a lot of spin going on since they are not so quiet anymore they have come out have you noticed the plane tests have now risen from fifty two hundred to eight thousand now so several lawsuits cases waiting to be tried there also is committed to the full integration of monsanto and bayer as you know there is that tend to create by the end of this month they are still fully committed and the c.e.o. werner bowman released a statement saying nothing has changed concerning our strategy attractive synergy
2:14 pm
potential and longer term growth in margin expectations for our combined crop science business we are very optimistic for the future so still saying that they're going to buy every verdict that they've come across and will come across will be fighting for a long time i'm so glad you had more time this week because i know we had to cut short the other day and there a couple of questions that i just wanted to get to and one is that when these things cereals accept or are processed does that somehow mill your rate or lessen the. content of these things so it wouldn't be weird if you're eating like a rock to be healthy and then all of a sudden you're getting more gleeful shaped and that's that's kind of the problem so far in twenty seventeen but in jerry's for example tested some tubs in europe ice cream tubs in europe found that thirteen of the fourteen tubs contain traces of life to say now they found they didn't find any in the u.s. because they didn't test so still they are committed to providing
2:15 pm
a life to say three ingredients and they've come out with the statement as well on their page saying that they want to go organic and be. free but people like just yesterday nature valley and all of ours just released a statement saying that they're removing one hundred percent natural from their label because they really want to commit to avoiding these litigation costs and fighting this and really trying to go one hundred percent organic so they're moving the label and this could set a precedent for future brands and things that they're going forth general mills was found themselves with their first lawsuit by a florida woman just last week because she's been eating cheerios regularly so she too is suing for saying that cereal knew they contain glyphosate but never it was never labeled in the ingredients so the labeling here to this is very interesting we've just got about thirty seconds left sure about what's next on this front well the f.d.a. should be releasing their results soon but they have found life to say in honey
2:16 pm
unfortunately so the farmers aren't actually spraying life to say onto the bee hives this is collected via the the bees who. are the crops big states and honey and that's not controlled but i'm not controlled so how that can be regulated they're not even sure when believably thank you so much. appreciate your time thank you very weakened. and that's all we have time we have for this time thanks for being on board you can catch boom bust on directv channel three twenty one dish network channel two eighty or streaming twenty four seven on pluto t.v. that's a free t.v. at channel one thirty two or as always you can track us down at youtube dot com slash boom bust r.t. you have a great weekend to take care. to

think. foreign assistance arm sales and credit lines to russia the focus of fresh u.s. sanctions targeting moscow we assess their potential impacts coming on top of existing with friction. with brazil's presidential election looming the latest poll has tipped the former leader needed to fill the perfect credit despite ten currently being in jail. while donald trump is intent on with new trade talks with china from beijing has reportedly to find it to wait until after the mid-term elections amid all the current ballclub in page minutes. scotland's former first minister alex salmond is taking his country's government to court with naming its inquiry into his alleged sexual misconduct is illegal he gave
2:21 pm
us his side of the story you're saying like the step parents of having a field show you having a feel. for the scottish government process doesn't do that you don't get to see the evidence you don't get to decide you. it's a very warm welcome it's four pm here in moscow and you're watching r.t. international with me the care and our top story washington says fresh sanctions against russia will kick in on monday the penalties are linked to claims the kremlin orchestrated a nerve agent attack in the u.k. and will target russia's financial sector excuse me as well as certain on sells to moscow r.t.s. american looks at the difference these sanctions will make. now the new batch of sanctions will come into force on august twenty seventh and will prohibit russia
2:22 pm
from importing secure u.s. goods and technology related to national security but there were also a few waivers first the foreign assistance act which would have terminated all aid to russia except for urgent humanitarian assistance is waived second the prohibition on arms sales that was introduced in two thousand and fourteen will also be waived determined on a case to case basis a state department official said that these waivers are essential to national security third arm sales of financing which has been in place already sanctions will deny u.s. government credit and financial assistance ban exports of secure goods and tech a few days ago president putin said that these sanctions were counterproductive let's take a look. regarding the sanctions those actions are counterproductive and meaningless especially when it comes to a country like russia it's not just about the u.s. president's position it's about the position of the so-called establishment the ruling class in broader terms of the realisation that this policy has no future
2:23 pm
will come one day cooperate in a normal fashion these sanctions were announced earlier this month over russia's alleged involvement in the script paul poison in which there is still no evidence for russia has repeatedly denied its involvement and has even offered its assistance to the quay and investigating the incident but this was apparently ignored now as russia gets slapped with sanctions it's very likely that we'll see russia respond with to for tat measures can stern from the hamilton coalition to stop the war believes the sanctions could have the opposite effect the one intended it's time the united states started to realize that in the days of the unique poland world are over and the united states needs to have a meaningful consultation rather than hysterical argues ations with russia russia does not need u.s. military assistance russia the systems which are in demand this. thems which are in demand all over the world all the u.s.
2:24 pm
is really doing is forcing russia to become even more self-sufficient than i was before so these military sanctions against russia are going to have exactly the opposite effect this is completely robert kagan issue this is the area over russia and the sooner the american government grows up and actually like an adult the sooner there's the american people and the rest of the world of course it will be. russia collusion stories are again gaining momentum but now even a u.s. t.v. channel is under fire and it's speculation it has links to the kremlin daniel hoare kins it's been looking into the claims we've all heard about trump russian election collusion you know the great scam that brought the u.s. president to power who's asian of collusion collude passably smells a whole lot like collusion there was ample evidence of collusion where is the closure you know there's still looking for collusion where is the delusion finds
2:25 pm
a can lose your little did we know of the conspiracy goes deeper now it's in the media it started with the trump tweet on proposed land expropriations and alleged murders of white farmers in south africa covered prior to this by fox news president of south africa posed has begun and you may have seen this in the press seizing the land from his own citizens without compensation because they are the wrong skin color that is literally the definition of racism it's a story that's been making headlines for quite some time in different outlets in multiple countries but there's just too many coincidences here coverage by r.t. to that list throw in russia and things get heated. i'm simply shocked shocked shocked that r.t. has also been pushing a story line that's similar to tucker carlson's about threats facing white south
2:26 pm
african farmers including this family they claim sought refuge in russia thanks for pointing out i didn't know that threat to south african farmers was a major story on r.t. there must surely be a link here a fox news report trump's twitter feed r.t. there's a clear pattern if of course we ignore the fact this shuttle has covered related issues in south africa for quite some time the south african parliament has voted in favor of new legislation that could see land from white farmers see so africa's government has vowed to tackle violent crime a problem that it says poses an equal threat for all races living in the country just outside south africa's capital stands the statue of the man who was behind the earthly policies of apartheid it's a whites only enclave which allows black visitors only under special permit but the discrimination of the apartheid in south africa has long come turn and all the evidence is obvious trumps been talking to the russians again and r.t.e.
2:27 pm
collude with fox on what to cover when and how it all adds up this u.s. of illustration just loves putin and next time you see reports in russian media that's also covered by other media that's also been tweeted by trump you although what's really going on. brazil's presidential election is about a month away but the current polls favorite faces a major hurdle now because lula da silva the former president is currently banged out behind bars within a cartoon of a reporter's. brazil's presidential election is looming and the latest polls to show one clear favorite and he is a familiar face lula da silva his companion has all the regular features rallies full of adoring supporters. through. merchandise branding his name and the must have can paint ad set to dramatic music.
2:28 pm
so what are you going to refuse. to discuss it. if you are going to be but here's the twist mr silva is currently serving a twelve year sentence for corruption still that hasn't stopped his ringing political aspirations and his party registered him for the race days before his imprisonment the law told r.t. about his intentions will but didn't kill fraser my party wants me to run for president they support my candidacy and i'm ready to do it and win the election. before handing himself over to police in april two thousand and six the former president supporters formed a human shield around the building he was and claiming the charges were politically motivated he was convicted of trading feet first with a construction company in exchange for the promise of a beachfront apartment
2:29 pm
a former model worker himself live became a hero of the working class as the economy soared during his eight years at the helm finishing back in twenty eleven. although for sound has become associated with the barrage of political scandals that have hit brazil the corruption was rampant all people in the workers' party were corrupt that used again very flimsy trumped up charges of being corrupt but it was the entire political system so yes the population obviously going to. government in power when there is rampant corruption but the corruption was all the political parties and looking at his present sounds busy visiting schedule taking his plans seriously just this week he was reported to be visited by the had of brazil's most powerful trade union and his fights presidential running mate brazil's thirty fifth president currently occupies a fourteen square meter room and has reportedly allowed to wear his own cloth thing
