these tariffs will take effect on september twenty fourth at ten percent and then on the first of the coming year january first of the coming year they will be increased to twenty five percent now the statement cites quote unfair policies and practices relating to the united states technology and intellectual property and from there it goes on to say that donald trump is imposing these tariffs quote to protect my the interests of working men and women farmers ranchers businesses and the country itself now it's important to note that a lot has gone into the lead up of this this is obviously not the first round of tariffs that were imposed previously there was a fifty billion dollar tariff imposed on china a tariff on fifty billion dollars worth of chinese imports china then responded with a sixty billion dollar tariff of their own at this point in the aftermath of this two hundred billion dollar tariff at this point eighty five to ninety five percent
