what do you make of this trend i think it's a explosive allegation i think it's one more piece to the puzzle in terms of whether or not the confirmation process of judicial candidate brett kavanaugh should go forward i mean look the fact of the matter is that there are three allegations now or right we've got christie employees or ford she says that she you know was assaulted sexually assaulted by brett kavanaugh she was forced down on a bed his hands over her mouth is good friend michael judge watch this we've got the classmate at yale who says that you know in a drunken state he you know pulled out his genitalia and put her in her face we've got this new woman now who says that she was was was gang raped and that brett kavanaugh and his friend again michael judge was present and it's not clear in that declaration that she says they participated in it but she does say they were. there

and they were present i think we'll have to drill down on that but the key question here larry is that with this new allegation this new person jus indicate she unlike the first two has indicated through a declaration under penalty of perjury that what she's saying is true she has a security clearance she's worked for homeland security she's worked for ice she's worked for a number of governmental agencies not only of a serious security clearance but she has a high security clearance for sick secrecy this is the one who's making that allegation so if she's doing this under penalty of perjury she is putting that only her entire career it jeopardy she's also facing prison if she's lying so i don't know what person you know is going to put their career in jeopardy over these kinds of allegations if they're not telling the truth cavanaugh said this is ridiculous is from the twilight zone i don't know who this is and it never happened. i don't know how you respond to that some of these lies somebody is lying and look and larry i think the point that you're making that the fact that this is that cavanaugh says this is ridiculous and some of the line is why not have

a full blown investigation i mean the reality is i don't know many people in my in my area of business who say i'd like you to investigate my claims and i'd like the f.b.i. to do it typically if people want their claims investigated and they want them investigated by the f.b.i. as opposed to some rush to judgment they're typically telling the truth if on balance if i'm asked to believe one person on the other irrespective of saying hold out of their cabin i should want to calvin i should be demanding that because it removes the cloud of doubt and uncertainty over his candidacy what about having a female former prosecutor expert in sexual cases do the questioning for the republican senators it's all optics right larry i mean the truth of the matter is we saw this in one thousand nine hundred one within the the hill hearing when the g.o.p. led senate. truly wanted all the questions out there on the table the senators wanted to ask those questions and one of you ever heard congress. any member of

congress senate ever not one to be on television asking questions never seen this before so the truth is this is all about optics they want to assure that they don't offend anyone they don't want to be seen as a levin or twelve all white men walking asking this woman questions and beating this woman down so instead they bring another female prosecutor ask questions what's notable about this lawyer is that seven of the eleven g.o.p. members on that side are lawyers former prosecutors city attorneys many of them so the fact that they are afraid to ask these questions isn't suggested that they can't do it it simply says they don't want to do it. back in nineteen ninety eight while we're going for independent counsel ken starr brett kavanaugh wrote that he was strongly opposed to giving president clinton any break in questioning regarding the details of the lewinsky matter he said it was their job to make clinton's tatarinov revolting behavior clear tease by painful piece should all supreme court

nominees appointed for a lifetime be held to that standard how can they not be held that standard later that they sit in judgment for every man and woman in the united states for the rest of their life it's a lifetime appointment how can we not have a high bar a high standard for anyone who's elevated to the supreme court and look this is beyond whether or not he did it i don't think we'll ever really know with any degree of absolute certainty whether or not he did it but what we will know if we drill down if there's a further investigation if we don't rush to judgment what we will know is whether or not he's engaged in a pattern of lying of deceiving of not telling the truth when he's being asked probative questions about his past and so the truth of the matter is look the parents of the a choir boy he said he you know it was virgin he said he hadn't had sex he said he went to church he said it was all about a study as an athletics but these people point in a very different picture and by the way most recently even his college roommate has gone on the record saying this. guy was a drunk he was

a belligerent drunk and this is not a guy who i would not have a hard time believing having gates in this kind of behavior and that person went on record saying that he believes this latest this was the second accuser there were mirrors from you. thanks trying to zero as the political panel joins me now there john i had a role here in studio he's the award winning host of the young turks and the damage report on the young turks network and the new york naomi levin republican strategist is running for congress in new york's tenth congressional district naomi it is your first appearance on politicking we thank you for joining us in the june ended in the june interview with the jewish press you said you don't agree with everything that president trump has done what do you disagree with the most yasser yes oh i support our administration and i think that trump has done

a lot of great things i i'm definitely wary of the than novel an approach to rogue players in the international arena such as putin and kim jong un i think that be very careful in striking any kind of deals with these people who have proven to be not trustworthy you also said in that interview that the important thing is not to make per section the enemy of the good and explain. yes so i think that it's important to focus on policies there are certain policies that are very effective like to mastic economic policies that we've seen in the last year you know and we should learn from those and look at what works and take what works and and you know be critical towards every policy but if things are generally proceeding in a positive way i mean i think you know in terms of foreign policy just the fact that donald trump withdrew from the iran nuclear agreement which my opponent kerry

nascar promoted it in a betrayal to his constituents i mean even that was amazing and we need to be appreciative and support the things that are working you know we need to prevent iran from becoming a nuclear power and we need to have a strong economy i believe in the power of economic growth and we should be promoting those those principles john well first of all i'd like to give her credit for being willing to even discuss the possibility of disagreeing with something with donald trump it's something that we didn't see a lot during the republican primaries and in cases where there was someone who really embraced the president someone who is more critical that they lost their seats and or they lost their primary elections in a lot of cases even if they were the in the incumbent and i don't think that having any party whether it's a problem for the democrats or anything else basically become a cult of personality around one strong figure is healthy either for the party or for the country so it's very dangerous and risky for republicans now to disagree

with trump but i want to encourage that i'd love to see more of that now only earlier this week trump tolly united nations general assembly because his administration has accomplished more than any administration in his country. do loud laughs and even trump said i didn't expect that reaction what did you make of that statement how i think that speaks more of you when than it does of our president i mean the u.n. is a forum made of leaders that. of oppressive regimes many of them north korea syria venezuela and to me. i'm not too concerned about these people laughing at our president but it definitely think that many countries across europe are looking to our administration to look at how we're able to achieve a g.d.p. of four point two percent you know in europe the g.d.p. of two or three percent is considered a great success so you know i think that this is commendable. but you think.

laughable. i mean. it's a funny way to state it i think that. i mean i'm not too concerned i think that with trump we need to clearly separate trump's rhetoric from trump's actions and you know focus on what he's doing and you know if there are people who who don't like you know his rhetoric and his personality and you know that's that's fine and and maybe this was a case of that. domestic politics john how you describe the current state of process for confirming a supreme court justice in the particular case of kavanaugh or in general in general and you could be specific in general i would say that it's absolutely horrendous and apparently getting worse i mean the situation with merrick garland i

think is one of the great political tragedies of the past ten years and in terms of process at least if not outcome i had no great love for america garland but obama definitely had the right to have a supreme court justice of his choice he specifically chose someone who he believed would bring more republican support merrick garland was not some progressive extremist activist firebrand that all of us lefties could get excited about not at all there were many leftists who were incredibly frustrated with his choice but even that olive branch that was you know that hand that was extended to the republicans they didn't allow it and then they end up getting the gorsuch and now they've chosen kavanaugh someone who has just about the worst developing reputation out of any political figure in in recent memory he was lucky that bill cosby was in the news this week to take a little bit of the focus off of them. and now that we have these accusers these credible women who are coming forward they say that this is all political it's a big con as trump says and if we bow down to these women now they will do this to

every candidate this is just the standard operating procedure now that is a theory that doesn't stand up to even the most recent example did it happen neal gorsuch no it didn't happen and you of course it's because they apparently haven't raped any women and so i think the process is terrible i think it is partisan but not in the way that the republicans are saying and i think honestly that this isn't a problem of judge just brett kavanaugh i think that we need to fundamentally rethink how we put people in the supreme court how long they serve that entire thing naomi what do you think. oh it's challenging question i mean in light of these accusations that we're. i think that you know on one hand we need to take them seriously and. at the same time we need to proceed with the hearing. and there is a concern that john mentioned that you know this is a partisan effort to to stall the hearings and you know to obstruct our administration you know this annoying many of the judges it's one of trump's

efforts so you know i'll be watching closely along with you and you know it's the job of the investigators to look into that and into these allegations. john and they only stay right there more politicking after the break. there of russia says. you know world's big puerto salute a lot and conspiracy it's time to wake up to dig deeper to get the stories that mainstream media refuses to tell more than ever we need to be smarter we need to

politics and part of the mission of my campaign is to break out of that focus on the issues that people in my district care deeply about and this opportunity that i have is incredible i mean people. people strive to make an impact their whole lives and here i am you know i have this this opportunity to do something meaningful and i'm i am listening to the people might district and thinking of ways to carry their concerns into congress when i'm there in january and i mean look at it without this we end up with a situation like my opponent jerry navarre votes no on every single bill that the republican congressional majority will present because you know the republicans are presenting and many of these bills would help his constituents john were using to the divide i think that it's huge i think that in some in some ways it's necessary understandable i think that people are pissed off because of the stakes i think that people saw an opportunity when barack obama got into office to finally right

things we've been through eight years of george w. bush we were engaged in what felt like an interminable you know conflict in the middle east that would probably hopefully finally end and of course it hasn't you know we're still involved in it and they thought that now we've got a reasonable person we've got a smart person who's going to fix these problems and they made a few good efforts they passed some good bills but for a lot of people their situation these are the health care wages they didn't get substantially better and so they saw we had eight years with george bush the hard right winger with eight years with obama who said he was a progressive whether he actually was in terms of his policy so what are we supposed to do at this point and then they had you know this election that seemed like it had an opportunity and some of those people who were so pissed off at how they feel like they had been left behind by both parties turn to this big shiny object donald trump some have grasped on to him as their culture warrior their you know the person who best represents their identity you know however you might

define that i might define it in some ways that republicans would like and things don't really seem to be getting get any better they've stripped out some of the good portions they say they passed a tax bill that predominantly benefits people who are already doing amazingly well those who have never been forgotten by either of the political parties who are always foremost in their minds when they were passing bills things don't seem to be getting better. shouldn't people be cussed off at this point. naomi the president has joined the chorus claiming that social media companies discriminate against conservatives you gary. absolutely i mean there's no secret that many of the social media companies and tech companies in silicon valley have you know left leaning and executives and the c.e.o. of twitter recently sad that the conserve minority in his company doesn't feel safe to express their their views and it's definitely a problem i've experienced censorship myself i was on a platform called crowd pac which is

a crowd funding form that allowed myself and other candidates raise money for a campaign and and one day i found out that they're shutting down the accounts of every republican simply because of our political affiliation and i thought that was really concerning and shocking so one of the things that i plan to do when i'm in congress is ten best to get the serious issue john the white house is an executive order would launch the anti trust investigations into the business practices of top social media companies why do you do that i left just because i guess it's kind of expected at this point i'm sure to some extent look this is i guess donald trump giving his base what it wants and when i say base i mean both the actual voters and the people that he communicates with the most which is you know steve doocy and sean hannity and stuff like that he gets his marching orders that we heard from them by phone every night he talks with these fox news hosts these are the sorts of

issues the fire up republican voters and it works really well in terms of the voters they feel like they're being heard they're concerned about censorship when it comes to the right wingers and media and donald trump this is a great issue where they can pursue an investigation of twitter and facebook and they don't have to really rethink how corporations have left behind workers in terms of their wages the sort of core economic issues that are actually driving people satisfaction with their life and all of that get conveniently left out of the conversation when we're focused on. no the censorship and stuff like that that might be affecting some in media perhaps but i don't think that like a random republican living in tulsa or kansas city that their biggest issue is that twitter is mean to them probably not and so these sorts of diversions are great for the republican establishment well i have a a sister candidate on the west coast sorry to interrupt and she had her facebook ad was blocked first on facebook then on twitter you know supposedly because the

content was not appropriate her parents fled communist cuba and and i thought that you know that clearly affected her campaign she couldn't get her message out i think i think it is a serious issue that and you know the whole realm of information technology is relatively new and we don't get have the the knowledge and the regulations on how to deal with that so that's something that it's going to be looked looked into on will find the best way to handle these things john naomi thank you both new only will be having you back best of a lot thank you so once speak to the u.n. security council president from surprised many by claiming china not russia is meddling in the upcoming midterm elections in the united states. exactly what is the president talking about here so this we turn to joe rubin he served as deputy assistant secretary of states to legislative affairs in the obama administration and he's president of the washington strategy group and he joins me from washington

what do you make of that statement that china is attempting to do fear in our elections well larry it's quite a headline and it's something that americans should be thinking about in terms of china and cyber attacks against the united states when i served in government china attacked our. offices through cyber attacks that stole data from the office of personnel management on over twenty million american government employees this is real although i'm not sure what the president's referring to specifically in this case but with the election security on everyone's mind it definitely raises eyebrows and concern they were stealing that for what reason. well when we got hacked is how it was described twenty two million to be precise american government employees had their personal data stolen and that was back in two thousand and

fifteen is when it came out but it happened over a period of time and the concern was that the chinese would have access to personal data about everybody working in the u.s. government and could use that in some type of analysis about what we were doing professionally where we were traveling potentially to impersonate us online a variety of activities there really dangerous to a government's operations what's going to be the effect on u.s. china relations do you think boy did we see the sort of dichotomy of two different messages coming out yesterday from president trump on china on the one hand he complimented president xi calling him a friend and being very kind in public about that but on the other hand he said that china was taking advantage of the united states he's going forward with tariffs on china now this accusation so clearly the president has in his mind an approach of trying to keep a good relationship with the leader but also talking tough works well with his

political base and it's certainly guiding the policies that the administration is pursuing towards china we should take the president's speech. well guys i was watching it it seemed like the president was was kind of stuck on a teleprompter speech which was a little different for him he he seems to. enjoy speaking extemporaneously and he didn't really extemporize much yesterday there's been a lot of commentary about how he was laughed at when he talked about his accomplishments being significant in the first years better or more than any other american president but to me the biggest headline was the the continued theme of the president about how he is going to essentially have a more unilateral foreign policy does not view traditional alliances and international organizations as really useful tends to view zero sum

type of scenario with our allies as well as our adversaries and so to me it was a pretty aggressive speech towards those in the audience and is consistent with what he's been advocating since he came into office midway during the she said we reject the ideology of globalism and accept the ideology of. he wants every country to put patriotism first. well that's that's what he's saying but that can lead to some very dangerous outcomes potentially the reason for these international organizations if we go back a bit in history is that they were created in the aftermath of world war two the united nations in particular largely because of the competition between nationalisms within countries in europe and elsewhere and in asia and the idea of having international organizations like united nations was to avoid world wars and

to have disputes resolved through these kinds of dialogues so if we have a world where every country's out for themself and that's all they pursue we're going to see more clashes not less and that is sort of. that view is challenging the seven plus decades of international security strategy and framework that we've been living with since world war two what about the swing on north korea last year in his u.n. speech kim jong un was rocket man. now and it is remarkable isn't it larry and it's a good thing it did garner pleasant response at the general assembly the world is much happier when president trump is talking about kim in a positive way rather than and about totally destroying north korea which i think is the quote from last year so there is a lot of work to do however on north korea and a lot of concern here in washington that the objective of complete verifiable
