. been totally destroyed emotional scenes in the us senate as both the supreme court nominee and the woman who accuses him of attempted rape give testament a commission will vote on the nomination of the judge on friday and police for a major terror attack after arresting seven men reportedly trying to suicide vest and also bomb making equipment. for the welcome at six pm here in moscow you're watching international now north korea was at the heart of the latest u.n. security council meeting washington's top diplomat. praise progress made in relations between the two countries just a year since president trump five to totally destroy the reclusive state. past
11:02 am
diplomatic attempts to halt north korea's nuclear ballistic missile development were unsuccessful but now we're at the dawn of a new day or twelve months ago washington and pyongyang seem to be standing on the brink of war so will this new day mention bisecting pompei there actually last reporting from new york is. it's only been a year and then boom donald trump's second u.n. general assembly just listen to it i would like to thank chairman kim for his courage and for the steps he has taken a lot of very positive things are happening with chairman kim he likes me i like him we get along but most importantly i believe that chairman kim jong un wants peace and prosperity for north korea twelve months ago same building same holds same mr trump no one has shown more contempt for other nations and for the wellbeing of their own people then the depraved regime in north korea
11:03 am
no north korea hasn't undergone any regime change surgery chairman kim is still in his chair but miraculously little rocket man is now an awesome guy rocket man shooting rockets all over the place and with me he's not get nowhere with it he will truly regret it five years. the likes of which nobody has seen before totally destroy north korea rocket men mad men is on a suicide mission for himself that he did it to state that while today kim jong un is the president's most admired pen pal i'm sure you've heard about the beautiful letter so i've received two letters from him much personal correspondence magnificent very strong letter form incredible letters letters page one i showed one of the letters just to prime minister he said this is actually
11:04 am
a groundbreaking letter like any other president donald trump would love to be remembered as a global peace meet it took him a year and a half from his inauguration to zero in on his desired legacy a true br. through in the korean crisis barak obama was having a harder time segmenting his place in history books but then be aware nuclear deal came to the rescue and the mission find your perfect legacy was complete after nearly two years of intensive negotiations backed by strong sanctions become trees represented in this room achieved what decades of animosity and rhetoric did not and thanks to this deal we have seen real progress shortly after mr obama was gone the deal was left in tatters no matter how monumental it had been in the first place the worst sales i've ever seen in
11:05 am
a good disaster is still one of the dumbest deals one of the worst deals ever it was the iran deal i'm all for agreements but that was a bad one donald trump waved good bye to the green minutes he quit unilaterally without paying attention to pretty much what the rest of the world has to say about today's action sends a critical message the united states no longer makes empty threats when i make promises i keep that donald trump may indeed keep all his promises as president but it does happen that rivals sometimes take over the white house after term one what if in a couple of years someone else will be representing the u.s. behind these new one general assembly walls in new york i mean we have to train them. ok let's talk more about then the situation regarding north korea with rich
11:06 am
black republican senator in the state of virginia and he's been patiently waiting to see. the saving richard let's start with north korea and what happened at the security council meeting the u.s. said price north korea didn't it but it also then went on to say that. entries need to continue to put economic pressure on peeling yang is sending mixed signals. but i think i think you do have mixed messages here largely that's for domestic political consumption i think the trump administration is delighted with the fact that our. own yang has not been firing missiles has not been threatening anyone and as long as that continues i think we're probably going to make progress at the same time he says well we need do we need to enforce sanctions and
11:07 am
i think he's doing that primarily because he he's sort of past two for domestic consumption in a lot of the world is looking at what's happening in north korea particularly china and russia they are against him forcing further sanctions against north korea pretty much going against what trump was sort of suggesting during that meeting what it what should take home that and could it come to progress. well i tend to agree that. i'm not i'm not a great fan of sanctions i think they impose on the sovereignty of other nations in ways that is not proper and. president trump during his speech at the u.n. said america will always choose independent sober global governance control and domination and yet when we tell sovereign nations that you cannot trade with certain countries we certainly are talking about global
11:08 am
domination and i think it's counterproductive i think it causes hostility with the world and i think if we can if we can encourage that peace process to proceed in between north and south. korea i think we can achieve some significant. and perhaps diminish the level of tension we need to do that. donald trump said that sanctions would remain until he could arise ation has taken place she thinks the chance that some sanctions might be lifted in the future if north korea continues to show progress. i think that it's possible that the problem with this is been pointed out in the u.s. media is that we sanction so many people president trump has added a thousand new companies and individuals to the sanctions list senses
11:09 am
a large and. it's difficult to enforce and to some extent it's more of an expression of displeasure than it is something that has real economic impact but i don't i just i think we need to we need to draw back from. actions that are so easy to impose they're difficult to remove and but i do think that we should we should begin to reciprocate in north korea does something positive we need to respond and we need to do something positive so that we continue the peace process is building trust with north korea difficult richard because we've seen with iran around thought an agreement had been reached with the us then a new president came into time and that deal is there a danger that later down the line if another new president comes in he could well
11:10 am
tear up the deal with north korea saying how can the u.s. be trusted. well. the iranian deal i think when i think it was a terrible mistake for us to back out of that this was not just a united states deal but it involved all of the great nations of the world and the united nations put its seal of approval on it. and i think it's very counterproductive and it's it's another step towards war with another country in the middle east so i think that's very bad on the other hand north korea is kind of a unique situation where because they have their artillery. just looming overhead of seoul korea i think it creates a checkmate were neither side can effectively take action against the
11:11 am
other and honestly i think if there's a democratic administration i think as long as. those not do something to. force their hand i think they would just as soon have things remain quiet and just not have to deal with the problem with the issue of iran to fail the trumpets got much global support here because listening to what was said. the general assembly it didn't appear to be the case exactly a lot of people were resisting the sanctions that have been imposed by the us. there is a tremendous amount of bitterness among the other countries. the d. around nuclear deal was not their initiative it was the united states initiative we did it we urged them to sign on and they all agreed to do it it
11:12 am
went to the un and they put their blessing on it and now we've decided we're going to pull out we do we don't like it after all. and you know i think it's a matter of. national sovereignty and pride i think they they feel like it's nations they should not have another country dictate to them who they can trade with and who they cannot and i agree with that i think that's the essence of globalism when you compel other countries to obey your dictates and i really i don't like the idea that the united states will will dictate to other nations who they can trade with who they can deal with. i i'd like to see the whole regime of of science swept away and done away with because i think i think all that it does is it part on issues poor people in
11:13 am
nations that are undergoing difficulties and struggling and it also is an incentive for war it moves us a step towards war every time that we impose sanctions and i was so i am not a fan of sanctions and i think we i think we we should be abolishing them rather than then imposing them but the problem is that it is so easy for a lobbyist to go around in congress and say oh you are impose sanctions on this country or that and then they say wow at the herrick i'll just vote yes and. and so they're easy to impose they're hard to remove and they're very counterproductive to world peace and the long range interest of the united states ok richard look we're going to ask you to stay on the line too because we'd like to get your reaction to another story today the saga surrounding trump's pick for the
11:14 am
supreme court so we're going to get the latest on that and we'll come back in a couple of minutes let's go to the u.s. and our correspondent there and he's following events for us because a new round of hearings over the supreme court nominee kavanah is underway in the u.s. that is the senate judiciary committee is set to vote on his candidacy later in the day president trump's nominee is accused of attempted rape while thursday's hearing proved to be highly charged. and following that very closely was kind of more pain say just run through them what we've heard so far and what we can expect later. well the hearings are continuing on capitol hill around the. nominee for the u.s. supreme court nominated by u.s. president donald trump that would be brett kavanaugh now brett kavanaugh his hearings have been tainted by allegations of sexual assaults and has the hearings
11:15 am
continue we're hearing some reports that there may be a vote this afternoon a vote is expected around one thirty pm local time this afternoon to confirm him as the nominee and as a supreme court justice however people are still reacting to what went down on the previous day yesterday's hearing was quite intense as we heard testimony from both the accuser of brett kavanaugh christine blasi forward who gave very tearful testimony describing what she alleged was a sexual assault against her by mr cavanaugh we then also heard very tearful testimony from kavanagh himself now the whole the whole confirmation process has been surrounded by protests let's take a quick review of what happened yesterday as things got rather intense on capitol hill. i recall saying that the bully who assaulted me could someday be on the u.s. supreme court i denied the allegation immediately categorically in unequivocal
11:16 am
my family and i have been the target of constant harassment and threats the other night actually in my daughter in law's assert their prayers and little lies all of ten years old. said to actually we should pray for the woman. it's a lot of wisdom from a ten year old republican schedule to hearing without talking to her or even inviting her to testify republicans also scheduled this hearing with dr ford without having her allegations investigated by the f.b.i. if you wanted an f.b.i. investigation you could come to us what you want to do is destroy this guy's life hold the seat open and hope you win it twenty twenty you said that not me. now many observers are saying that the confirmation process surrounding brett
11:17 am
kavanaugh has degenerated into a kind of political circus with lots of tears and lots of angry words coming from both sides now all eyes are on capitol hill as it appears there will be a vote to confirm brett kavanaugh this afternoon so people are wondering what will happen next people are watching as the hearings continue. ok thank you. for us live in new york with the latest on that case and let's get more reaction now with senator richard black he's patiently waited for us on the line. rich listening to this and we heard from our reporter it is a highly charged case isn't it chiefly it's been politicized the thing that actually both people involved here are actually getting a fair hearing. well i think first of all this is this is strictly a political process this this letter from mrs ford was withheld from the committee during months of. investigation and just sprung at the very
11:18 am
last moment yesterday's hearing where a very dramatic. and they they forced brett kavanaugh off to reveal. the level of his sexual innocence when he was a young man at which i think people found very very uncomfortable and distasteful but mrs ford obviously does not have you know much information to provide about any alleged incident i don't think the public believes ms ford and i think that. this this was designed to motivate women voters in november to vote for the democrats and i can tell you from a lot of women that i've spoken to it has backfired they felt like it is
11:19 am
tremendously unfair to cabin off the other day senator jeff flake who was probably the weakest of the republicans on the senate judiciary committee came out and said he would vote for confirmation and once they get it if they get confirmation at one o'clock from the committee it will go to the full floor of the senate and at that point there are going to be several of the democrats who will simply be forced because of their upcoming elections to vote in favor of kabanov so at this point i would say that he probably has a very very high chance of confirmation with regards to. his accuser. simple question is not how do you think she should have got a fair trial or a fair hearing here because from what you say there's a lot of opinion flying around in politics that get involved in this thing. well
11:20 am
i think senator grassley has a very wives committee chairman he gave her every opportunity he told her what we're going to set a hearing where you can where you can testify and she came back and said well i'm not i'm not ready to testify she had a lawyer from the very outset which is sort of unusual for a witness and then senator grassley said well look we will we will fly out to where you are she climbed and she was afraid of flying and then it turned out that she's been flying all over the pacific she wanted to hold why and i don't know where are and she flew all over the place but somehow she couldn't fly to washington d.c. . but senator grassley a very wise man and he he said look we'll do it in private it would do it in public we would do it at your location we would do it here in washington whatever you want
11:21 am
and i think it was pretty obvious that her approach was simply a stalling tactic and and it was does it designed simply for political reasons. it came out to certain point. where cavanaugh became very emotional which made a lot of people uncomfortable but he was forced to admit that he hadn't ever had relations with the woman until he was you know well into his adult life and i think honestly i think reasonable people just just kind of cringe at the fact that some. one is forced to devolve there are very personal all our sexual life and i think it's been i think it's backfired tremendously on the democrats i think it's it's really
11:22 am
a disaster for the. rich it ok always good to talk to you going to have to leave it there but we appreciate your time today it was richard black a republican senator in the state of virginia thank you thank you very much. now in other news tonight dutch police say that they have foiled a major terror attack that's after arresting a gang of men trying to acquire a soul trifle suicide vests and also bomb making equipment child at the ski as mormon. this is been a long standing investigation after a tip off in april and eventually the police swooped in no miscreant which they say were planning to carry out a terror attack at a high level of vent to maximize the number of victims and casualties that the prosecutor in the netherlands this morning has been outlining some of the material base groups were apparently trying to obtain the suspects were in search of a k forty seven s. grenades explosive vests and. several car bombs well what do we know about the

ringleader the so-called ringleader of this group what we understand he's a thirty four year old man who is of a rocky origins we also understand from the police that he was convicted last year in two thousand and seventeen of attempting to travel to syria where he wanted to join i saw the terror group for the rest of the group seven members in total we have some from police that their age twenty one to thirty four three of the group including that ringleader had all been convicted of trying to travel to syria where they wanted to join not terror group but i still now we understand that they were attempting to not only put. guns and rifles they were also looking to obtain woman which could then be used to create a bomb and we understand from the authorities in the netherlands that they were quite far away along in their attempts to create this terrorist attack this is not the only time in september that terror has been on the front pages of the

netherlands earlier this month the jihadist was shot dead in. after stopping. the threat level in the netherlands remains that out of a possible maximum of five meaning that there is a real concern that there is a chance of a terror attack in the country. we've been reporting that turkey's leader is in germany at the moment on his first. state visit is president and to turkey protesters have already showed up on the streets of berlin her some live pictures from there at a news conference earlier with chancellor merkel called for closer economic times. we find it very important that we germany in the economic field according to the win win principle we are thankful for german support our troops relationship is getting better again we want to win win situation with germany in the present and the future. state visit with the full military honors for president here in
11:25 am
germany and it was all very friendly at the press conference as he stood alongside chancellor angela merkel but scratch just a little bit below the surface and it was clear that there are still major issues between berlin and ankara president only one from his side he was all very keen always very keen to bring the talk back to economic cooperation between turkey and germany one of the reasons for that is because when it comes to economic cooperation well that's one area they. can unite against one person in particular. well the press conference it was announced that there will be an upcoming meeting on syria and conspicuous by their absence from that list of invitees was donald
11:26 am
trump in the united states the meeting will comprise the leaders of russia of turkey of germany and of france. but this meeting between president won and chancellor merkel well it's a miracle it's happened at all on the scale in which it's happening just not so long ago in cast our minds back in there was some real top shelf insults being hurled between the two nation. if they did but i can see turkey being admitted to the european union i have never been able to see it happening on your money you have no relation whatsoever to democracies and you should know that your current actions are no different to those in the nazi period but the person you're jeopardizing everything that you've built together with others and your unspeakable nazi comparisons do not cut the ties to those who want a partnership with turkey i'm calling on all my countrymen in germany on the
11:27 am
christian democrats the green body are all enemies of turkey to support those political parties who are not enemies of turkey as well the tensions between on current berlin could be seen in the room the press conference took place in one of the accredited journalists stood up during the press questions revealing a t. shirt that said freedom for journalists on it he was then removed from the press by security services leaving mr wanted mrs merkel to stand on looking rather or quit while it was done but they are clear issues and many of them relate back to the twenty sixteen attempted coup in turkey the turkish site they want those they claim took part in the coup or helped organize the attempted coup who are currently in germany seeking asylum the german side they say it is five people in jail in turkey over the killed who were german citizens and they want them released president wants. and others in the international community to condemn the golan movement he
11:28 am
says were behind the attempted coup however chancellor merkel stood right alongside president said he shouldn't be holding his breath for that to be declared anytime soon from germany from another to ask anything un movement we take a very seriously but we need more information to fix the status for this organization we do sorry some persons on the request of turkey but on the other hand there is a lack of information whether all of them are in this country. well this state visit was all about bridge building some of that is being done but it's clear that there's still well there's still words from the angry exchanges between the two countries that have gone on over the last couple of years they have not gone at all just yet at times it looked like we were making progress at other times it looked like nothing's changed in the relationship and it's low ebb. all of that so that brings you up slightly sad time to get there you can also follow the news on our social media pages and you should check.
