so you are from after. all if. you. know with you if you. act. like nothing. from rocket man to chairman kim and with north korea the focus of the latest security council meeting we look at how in the space of just a year the white house went from having to destroy the country to praising it. to recall saying that the boy who assaulted me could someday be on the u.s.
1:01 pm
supreme court or i feel. totally destroyed. emotional scenes in the u.s. senators both the supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh and the woman who accuses him of attempted rape to give testimony to the commission will vote on the nomination of the judge later on friday. dutch police for a major terror attack after arresting a second man reportedly trying to obtain suicide vest guns and bomb making equipment. plus turkish protesters flood the streets of berlin following a meeting between angela merkel and the rest have a good one during his first state visit as president. it's eight o'clock here in moscow and you're watching all t. international live from last year with mina dhimmitude welcome to the. program
1:02 pm
north korea was at the heart of the latest u.n. security council meeting washington's top diplomat mike pompei appraise progress made in relations between the two countries just a year since president trying to totally destroy the close of state past diplomatic attempts to hold north korea's nuclear ballistic missile development were unsuccessful but now we're at the dawn of a new day. twelve months ago washington and pyongyang seem to be standing on the brink of war so will this new day mentioned by secretary pumpin last. reports from new york it's only been a year and then boom donald trump's second u.n. general assembly just listen to it i would like to thank chairman kim for his courage and for the steps he has taken a lot of very positive things are happening with chairman kim he likes me i like him we get along but most importantly i believe that chairman kim jong un wants
1:03 pm
peace and prosperity for north korea twelve months ago same building same holds same mr trump no one has shown more contempt for other nations and for the wellbeing of their own people then the depraved regime in north korea no north korea hasn't undergone any regime change surgery chairman kim is still in his chair but miraculously little rocket man is now an awesome guy rocket man shooting rockets all over the place and with me he's not get their way with he will truly regret fire. the likes of which nobody has seen before totally destroy north korea rocket men mad men is on a suicide mission for himself that is there it's a state that while today. is the president's most admired pen pal i'm sure you've heard about the beautiful letter so i've received two letters from
1:04 pm
jim and kim much personal correspondence magnificent very strong letter form incredible letters the letters page one i showed one of the letters just to prime minister b. he said this is actually a groundbreaking letter like any other president donald trump would love to be or. remembered as a true global peace maker it took him a year and a half from his inauguration to zero in on his desired legacy a true breakthrough in the korean crisis barak obama was having a harder time segmenting his place in history books but then the year when nuclear deal came to the rescue and the mission find your perfect legacy was complete after nearly two years of intensive negotiations backed by strong sanctions become trees represented in this room achieved what decades of animosity and rhetoric did not
1:05 pm
and thanks to this deal we have seen real progress shortly after mr obama was gone the deal was left in tatters no matter how monumental it had been in the first place the worst deals i've ever seen in a good disaster is still one of the dumbest deals one of the worst deals ever it was the iran deal i'm all for agreements but that was a bad one donald trump waved good bye to the green minutes he quit unilaterally without paying attention to pretty much what the rest of the world has to say about today's action sends a critical message the united states no longer makes empty threats when i make promises i keep them donald trump may indeed keep all his promises as president but it does happen that rivals sometimes take over the white house after
1:06 pm
term one what if and a couple of years someone else will be representing the u.s. behind these new one general assembly walls in new york a million to train them and washington's heavy sanctions against north korea one of the main issues of discussion i think latest u.n. security council meeting the russian foreign minister called them outdated considering the progress seen from pyongyang because. i don't see one when pyongyang shows we're doing this to cooperate and positive changes to will stabilization in the region it looks more and more outdated when the western partners propose further strengthening sanctions on north korea given that pyongyang has taken a number of important steps towards denuclearization it would have been more logical to support the efforts for something in exchange to support the positive trend well i turn to agree that. i am not i'm not
1:07 pm
a great fan of science i think they impose on the sovereignty of other nations in ways that it is not proper and president trump during his speech at the u.n. said america will always choose independence over global governance control and domination and yet when we tell our sovereign nations you cannot trade with certain countries we certainly are talking about. domination and i think it's counterproductive i think it causes hostility with the world and i think if we can if we can encourage that peace process to proceed. between north and south korea i think we can achieve some significant thing resign and perhaps diminish the level of tension we need to do that.
1:08 pm
and the round of having to have a supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh sent away in the u.s. senate judiciary committee is set to vote on his candidacy later in the day president trans nominee is accused of attempted rape. is following the having. capitol hill was abuzz as once again we were hearing that confirmation hearings surrounding brett kavanaugh who's been nominated for the u.s. supreme court by u.s. president donald trump now if he is confirmed he will be a supreme court justice for life now his appointment his nomination has been tainted by allegations of sexual assault and just as yesterday today's confirmation hearings that took place throughout the morning were certainly contentious other than working with us my democratic colleagues chose not to participate in this process and indeed before yesterday they had never even asked the judge a single question of these over the oceans and yet again and again their refrain
1:09 pm
has been the same. to say that look i'm very disappointed that we're here today voting on this nomination and specially in light of the testimony that we heard just yesterday that it would be an absolute crying shame if we keep treating him well if you know if you saw some sort of an impostor or some sort of a person who just couldn't do this job he can do the job and he's doing it on me the circuit court of appeals the second highest court in the country and i have a lot of confidence in him this supposed to be an independent equal branch of government we're no longer that. we're in a very weak. of the trial now yesterday's hearings were certainly explosive at those hearings we heard testimony from christine blasi forward who accuses brett kavanaugh of having attempted to rape her when they were both
1:10 pm
teenagers at a party she gave testimony lots of tears and then many opponents of cavanaugh had a lot of angry things to say meanwhile kavanaugh testified himself and he got quite emotional during his testimony and it was quite explosive i recall saying that the boy who assaulted me could some day be on the u.s. supreme court i should know ideology should immediately categorically in unequivocally my family and i've been the target of constant harassment and threats the other night actually and my daughter lies assert their prayers and little lies all of thirteen years old. said to actually we should pray for the woman. it's a lot of wisdom from a ten year old in the afternoon at roughly one thirty pm there is expected to be a vote on the confirmation now if brett kavanaugh is confirmed he will be a u.s.
1:11 pm
supreme court justice for life however both sides are quite heated there are protests going on there been celebrities taking sides in the matter it's all over social media this is quite a contentious hearing quite a contentious confirmation process for brett kavanaugh. kittles lawyer and legal editor spiked online to discuss this further luke welcome to the program now the vote is set to take place in less than two hours from now want outcome are you expecting. well one of the thoughts of uniquely depressing things about this process. that it's almost inevitable that it will go down party lines and kavanah will be appointed as people expected and where we got to with this inquiry absolutely no where we are no closer to the truth we have dragged a woman who believes she was the victim of something thirty six years ago through a national source of you know what appears to be entertainment
1:12 pm
a lot of people are treating this as salacious gossip which is largely what it is there is no evidence to support these allegations that is not surprising given their age and given the nature of what she is alleging this case would never have got to court for in this country or in the us because there is simply no evidence to support either side so what it's been reduced to is trial by emotion we've seen people commenting on this in the context of social media and in the print media basically comparing the reactions of dr ford with with judge cavanagh and saying well who do we believe on the basis of their competing emotions kavanah came across extremely angry and upset dr ford came across extremely sad and appeared genuine but how are we meant to distinguish between these two people we can't adjudicate these cases on the basis of how they present emotionally it is
1:13 pm
completely and utterly wrong so i think the vote is going to proceed how everyone expected it to with kavana being appointed despite this circus of a process and the real casualty in all this has been justice and truth we are no closer to that and the whole process is denigrated to the kind of severity and objectivity with which these allegations have to be treated i think the whole thing has been an appalling circus and i feel deeply sorry for everyone involved. is interesting what you just said you think is child by emotion of a public arena and it would be impossible to get any real answers nevertheless are there going to be any. even questions remaining to be answered if he does indeed to get the nomination. well no legal questions have been asked let alone. that here this is simply not been a legal issue this is been the denigration of the senate examination process it's
1:14 pm
a denigration of the severity with which judicial appointments take place in the united states it really has been a reduction of what is normally a very serious object of process to the level of circus and entertainment so are there legal issues to be resolved no because i don't even think any of been raised in the first place there is lots to criticize about governor in the way that he approaches his legal decision making he is you know a staunch conservative someone who if i was a progressive in america i'd be very worried about him sitting on the supreme court but the way in which he's been targeted the way in which he's been dragged through this process in such an armload of following an unprincipled way i think will just cloud those questions they've completely obliterated any consideration of his actual decision making they've completely obliterated any consideration of how his appointment to the court will affect the decision the back of that court makes and
1:15 pm
we're left with a completely other defying. circus like procedure which is really got us no closer to the truth about brett kavanaugh r m has completely heart hidden the real questions that we should be asking about the way he makes his decisions. why do you believe donald trump is pushing for cavernous candidacy i even had some concerns there so why do you think he is pushing for him. well i think the major question that still remains at the heart of this debate and not particular relating to brett kavanaugh is just how much influence the supreme court can have over political life in america we're still seeing an institution which is supposed to be relatively narrow in its participation in democracy really expanding its influence we've seen recently the gay marriage judgment which effectively ruled that states
1:16 pm
could not outlaw gay marriage and effectively was seen as the legalization of gay marriage across america that was a huge explosive political issue which was affectively resolved by the justices of the supreme court and i think the problem here is that the supreme court has a really central role in american politics in a way which it shouldn't it should be the legist the branches of american power should be wielding the influence over those political questions and i think that's the key question that people should be asking themselves in america at the moment is why is it that this comparatively young judge. has the opportunity now to effectively become the another wing of the presidential office effectively the supreme court becomes for a long period of time a reflection of the politics of the people who appointed it and i think that kind of stranglehold that the supreme court can have over
1:17 pm
a particular political issues like in america you know abortion issues and issues around women's autonomy also issues around free speech also issues around gun ownership the supreme court really are the key holders in respect of those issues in a way which i think most people in america especially are involved in politics should be uncomfortable about because these are the decisions that should be resolved by elected representatives not by those people appointed to the supreme court by trump or by any other president. so that's i think the key political question here is why is it that the supreme court holds so much power over such important political issues and why. legal editor of spike online thanks very much for joining us on the program. the police say they have foiled a major terror attack after a gang of men trying to acquire assault rifles vests and bomb making equipment.
1:18 pm
takes up the story. this is been a long standing investigation after a tip off in april and eventually the police swooped in the miscreants which they say were planning to carry out a terror attack at a high level of vent to maximize the number of victims and casualties that the prosecutor in the netherlands is smalling has been outlining some of the material this group were apparently trying to obtain the suspects were in search of a forty seven grenades explosive vests and room material several car bombs well what do we know about the ringleader the so-called ringleader of this group what we understand he's a thirty four year old man who is of a rocky origins we also understand from the police that he was convicted last year in two thousand and seventeen attempting to travel to syria where he wanted to join i saw the terror group as for the rest of the group seven members in total we had
1:19 pm
some from police that their age twenty one to thirty four three of the group including that ringleader had all been convicted of trying to travel to syria where they wanted to join that terror group i saw now we understand that they were attempting to not only put hand guns and rifles they were also looking to obtain. which could then be used to create a bomb and we understand from the authorities in netherlands that they were quite a way along in their attempts to create. this terrorist attack this is not the only time in september the terror has been on the front pages of the netherlands earlier this month the jihadist was shot dead in sit down after stepping to. the threat level in the netherlands remains out of a possible maximum of life meaning that there is a real concern that there is a chance of a terror attack in the country. the camry hybrid acted to the british
1:20 pm
media frenzy reports that u.k. security services have identified a third suspect in this. case spokes person to me. that we need facts not press speculation or an official investigation. points on the latest developments rumors upon theories on top of speculation doesn't seem to end the question has dismissed the rumors about the suspects their relationship with moscow was just that rumors and hasn't seen any case for. the whole discussion is built around. results in some kind of investigations by some kind of. nobody can know which pieces of evidence and which are true various investigations are underway by journalists. all this raises questions concerning the results of those investigations we do not know how. they are based
1:21 pm
and so on its hold hold a discussion with the media we would like to do that we don't know if any of the facts are true if we can make any official statements about looks like. they have to have the initial material. joint investigation. on the source break a. joint. cooperate for us when we don't want to speculate the latest that a third russian agent has been identified suspected of carrying out a reconnaissance of the script. the other theory that surface that incoming a meeting on syria and conspicuous by their absence from that list of invitees was donald trump and the united states the meeting will comprise the leaders of russia of turkey of germany and of france. but this meeting between president and
1:22 pm
chancellor merkel well it's a miracle it's happened at all on the scale in which it's happened just not so long ago in cast our minds back in there were some real top shelf insults being hurled between the two nations i can see turkey being admitted to the european union i have never been able to see it happening. germany you have no relation whatsoever to democracies and you should know that your current actions are no different to those in the nazi period president jeopardizing everything that you've built together with others and your unspeakable nazi comparisons do not cut the ties to those who want a partnership with turkey i'm calling on all my countrymen in germany the christian democrats the green party are all enemies of turkey to support those political parties who are not enemies of turkey while the tensions between anchor and perlin could be seen in the room the press conference took place in one of the accredited
1:23 pm
journalists stood up during the press questions revealing a t. shirt that said freedom for journalists on it he was then removed from the press by security services leaving mr wanted mrs merkel to stand on looking rather or quit while it was done but there are clear issues and many of them relate back to the twenty sixteen attempted coup in turkey the turkish site they want those they claim took part in the coup or helped organize the attempted coup who work. aren't lee here in germany seeking asylum the german side they say there's five people in jail in turkey over the queue who are german citizens and they want them released president wants angle or merkel and others in the international community to condemn the glenn movement he says were behind the attempted coup however chancellor merkel stood right alongside president said he shouldn't be holding his breath for that to be declared anytime soon from germany from another it was going
1:24 pm
to do an movement we take a very seriously but we need more information to fix the status for this organization we do search some persons on the request of turkey but on the other hand there is a lack of information whether all of them are in this country. or this state visit was all about bridge building some of that has been done but it's clear that this still while they're still weren't from the angry exchanges between the two countries that have gone all over the last couple of years they have not gone at all just yet at times it looked like we were making progress at other times it looked like nothing's changed in the relationship and its low ebb. french authorities have launched an investigation against a black rapper for inciting violence and racial hatred that's after he posted a video showing a white man being tortured shot and hanged from a tree and called for white babies to be killed you tube has suspended the clip
1:25 pm
called the whites. the rapper himself and conrad says it's nothing but a work of fiction he also claimed he was simply turning the tables on the suffering black people have endured for years but outrage and leave it here all the way to the top the french interior minister strongly recommended the rapper he also called for further legal action and he was backed by politicians from all the major parties we put the issue of whether there need to be limits to artistic expression for debate. all violence in this way is to be deplored of course but let's put it in perspective there are literally hundreds of thousands if not millions of hits on you tube videos from neo nazi hard right rock bands so i'm all for the rule of law replying but he bill seems to be massively disproportionate when there is no general trend in the french black community or
1:26 pm
elsewhere for this sort of thing and the one time here example people have descended on in france you'll be exaggerating now you have to agree in any way but undoubtedly these i exaggerate i mean there is a problem there is a problem. i am using in general i am drill music i am gonna last one hundred black kids the moment lee along in the more true your have been lying in a more tree we should calm down all violence like this all violent lyrics like this this kid is only at our say forty downloads we're going to be very careful we don't blow this out of proportion but he i've read the lyrics he's talking about stabbing caves in a nursery white kids and hanging their parents i'm sorry laughs out of order in my book just well let's see what the guy said the guy said i wanted to reverse polarity and show what it's like for black people for hundreds of years to be victims to these things sounds credible to me whether he meant it or not who knows
1:27 pm
only he can tell but i do know there's seems to be a big disproportionate difference with the way he's being treated to the way that the rest of the offenders on you tube are being treated one would never try not to condemn it slavery would not you know no one's trying to make an excuse for that if he has used a seed and change the primary.
