tens blast off into the cosmos earlier today and at the beginning things seemed according to plan we saw the rocket go into the sky the tourists that were watching friends and family other journalists they were taking pictures smiling clapping congratulating the crew on their successful blast off into the sky but then we started getting signs and unconfirmed reports that something was wrong for something that hasn't happened in over thirty years it's really a miracle that these two came out uninjured and alive donald corridor r.t. baikonur earlier we heard from dr david brown who works at the european space agency's plato mission he told us the crew had a lucky escape the g. forces they experienced was significantly higher than than usual for launch or re-entry because of the trajectory they had to type it can force clubs away from logan because temporary blackouts. there are

a lot of quite severe consequences so given the conditions in in the capsule it's possible that they could they could have come out of this much worse than they did i think we should all be very thankful. these systems which have been designed for just this eventuality have worked exactly as they've been designed to do you all right while those involved have had a harrowing experience to be sure it is hard to imagine what family and friends of the crew have been going through some of the relatives have already met with the astronauts while others are still waiting on tuesday to hawkins' reports now from star city for us where the crew will eventually return. i mean student we've seen today is of course very rare of the last one took place in lines of eighty's some sort of emergency landing which put lives at risk nevertheless when it does happen that obviously hits the headlines it becomes the top story of the day and it's also of course extremely stressful and tough for the families who are waiting hundreds

of miles down below for but all clear there was only three cosmonauts and astronauts in such a launch is going up to the i.s.a.'s today those only two alexi of the russian cosmonaut forty seven years old a left turn and colonel in the air force reserve this was his second flight into space or rather second attempted flight into space and forty three year old nick cage american astronaut with nasa he's a colonel in the u.s. air force this was meant to be his maiden flight and what a flight it turned out to be understand there in good health they're having their vital signs monitored in a hospital in kazakhstan a lexer of should and has already met his mother who was a white noise he was pictured hugging her earlier we managed to catch up with his wife who is here waiting at the space center for the eventual cause i'm also wife of. the and i watched the launch on t.v. and then i got the news from my neighbors so you can understand my feelings at the

time it was hard but the support of the team my friends my relatives they supported me so much you can be ready for that cosmonauts are prepared they get trained but the wives just stay down here in warri after an hour and a half i was able to talk to him he called and said that he was ok and we're going to see each other soon of course this is somewhat of a miracle but i want to see think you to the rescue team who designed the scape system thanks to that the crew returned alive and not injured. we're about thirty five kilometers as we said outside moscow what star city here this is where the cosmonauts and astronauts will. roy from kazakhstan it's about three and off four hours flight from there once they leave the assessment center once the medics subset them over and declare them fit to come back here their family families all waiting here i will give you any updates of course as they come in on those astronauts cosmonauts condition as and when they land back in moscow we spoke to. a

retired nasa astronaut and international space station commander he went through what could have caused the failure and the experience for those on board. i flew on to the space station aboard so you struck it myself came back in this way capsule on my fourth mission and so you know kind of brought me back to what it's like being in that vehicle and imagining going through this kind of an emergency aboard because you heard the transmissions the crew was very calm for the special and they did everything check right and so first and foremost of course we're all very pleased that the crew is safe and hopefully they're able to walk away from from the landing site and now it's just a matter of the investigation term of what happened what corrective action to take in in research by the big case to watch. even though it's

early to speculate based on what i saw on the replays of the launch coverage right after the four strephon booster separated there seems to be more debris coming off suggesting perhaps that one or more of the strap ons may have hung up and may have caused some kind of a structural damage to the core and then as soon as you heard soon there after the it war was declared and. the crew was instructed to use the hand controller to engage the ballistic mode. in a case of this ballistic mantra you don't know where you're going because you know you didn't predict when you're going to have a problem have to abort and so that's why you just go into the spin mode this ballistic mode and you just take what you get you generally know the circle about where you're going to land and they kind of have some helicopters staged along the way for this kind of contingency and that's why the helicopters were able to get them pretty quickly and get them out of the capsule mankind's thirst for space

exploration has ended in tragedy on a number of occasions over the years somewhat with deadly consequences in one thousand nine hundred sixty seven technical problems that during the landing of the so use one spacecraft resulted in the death of the only cosmonaut on board four years later so. eleven's three crew members were killed when their capsule deep pressurized astronauts had a fortunate escape in the one nine hundred seventy five incident when their launch vehicle malfunctioned all those involved did survive nine hundred eighty six was particularly tragic with all seven crewmembers on board the challenger spacecraft dying after an explosion and then in two thousand and three the space shuttle columbia broke apart during reentry killing all seven astronauts on board. well the risks of spaceflight have been made all the more evident but earlier my colleagues kevin owen and he goes off went over the possible faults of the incident in baikonur and what probably saved the lives of the crew members on into the

atmosphere when the boosters of being separated there are two possible options the first stage the having to time. will have to attach to the second stage. i'd say the first scenario is more likely in this case they can proceed with the mission. u.s. stocks have taken another hit continuing to drop after wall street experienced its worst day in eight months on wednesday and the plunge has been caused in part by investors concerns over the federal reserve hiking interest rates a decision that has angered. remarks come after the fed's third interest rate hike this year a move that increases the cost of borrowing for businesses almost all of the main

u.s. indices are now in the red tech titans like facebook amazon and netflix are among the firms to have taken big hits former u.s. congressman ron paul told us that in his view interest rates should be determined by market forces it's not trump's fault it's not the federal reserve the current federal reserve's fault that we had this drop yesterday and today that comes from the fact that the federal reserve over these past ten years the q.e. manufacturing created a massive amount of credit over all these years which causes the distortions in the malinvestment and that day out the most important thing if you're looking for looking for a free market economy you have. interest rates. settled by the economy the free market because it's a very very important information so i don't i think the president's wrong in thinking that he can just lecture the federal reserve and the federal reserve is wrong because they think they know what is the right thing to do and they don't

know what the right rate of interest is or the right number of supply of money that can only be decided by the market the effects of the fed's interest rate increase are being felt in asia as well with stock markets in china japan and south korea suffering on thursday financial commentator jim rogers gave us his thoughts on the volatility that we're seeing truth is that the federal reserve did raise a few years ago drove interest rates down to zero which is never happened in history everywhere else in the world they went to zero so yes they went crazy central banks everywhere did something which is never been done and drove interest rates to zero and below zero and now they're trying to get sanity back and raise them to the proper level america's the largest creditor and then the largest debtor nation in the history of the world and america has the largest economy in the world so course what america does has an effect on other people but you know it affects japan japan it's the third largest economy in the world it affects europe europe is

a huge economy so if america has a problem and everybody has a problem or everybody who deals with america but especially if there's a trade war going on and it seems there is and will be more that affects everybody whether you were involved in the trade war or not. donald trump has reacted to calls for washington to punish saudi arabia over its suspected murder of a journalist by suggesting he's unwilling to take any actions that could cause significant harm to the u.s. economy in particular the president has made clear that he intends to protect the defense industry and continue selling arms to riyadh. i don't like stopping massive amounts of money that's being poured into our country. i know they're talking about different kinds of sanctions but they're spending one hundred ten billion dollars on military equipment. things that create. jobs. for this country. well twenty two senators have demanded an investigation into the

disappearance of jamal. in turkey last week they want to see sanctions imposed on saudi arabia if it is found to have been responsible fifty nine year old journalist was last seen visiting the saudi consulate in istanbul and is feared to have been murdered there riyadh however denies the claim. worked for the washington post where he had a regular column he has long been a prominent critic of saudi leaders political commentator lou rockwell believes that despite the outcry over the case there's no reason to believe it will have any real impact on u.s. saudi relations so it. is very important to the u.s. in terms of the reserve status of the dollar terms of petro dollar very they're tired they're tired and hand in glove with them i really don't think anything is going nothing is going to happen that maybe people will be calling for something to happen nothing is going to happen. when it comes to policing the web google thinks

it knows what's best for us a leaked company briefing called the good censor outlines how it and other internet giants including facebook and twitter are grappling with how they censor content and what is done for our own good comments free speech on the web. ok google will you click like or is it a dislike i'm literally asking their bosses right now there is no way they'd turn their back on the solemn right for freedom of speech you'd think well some of what the guys at google have been busy with lately has been leaked. the report with a bunch of guidelines at the end is called good sense or get it they're really discussing censorship for our own good and point out that the concept of free internet i mean the online world as we've known it is utopian white why
10:15 pm
one of the reasons is the popularity of a german opposition party alternative for germany and pretty much the whole gig once controversial voices have been emboldened by like minded individuals and making their way offline so google is a platform for everyone could be a utopia too now the trend is to create what they call well order spaces for safety and civility with little regard for free speech. in which people are starting to realize that private companies control whether or not their speech comes down their report comes with a few visuals this one tells you that tech giants used to be neutral and now they've shifted to being politicized editors and publishers well you asked ford you didn't yes you did it's all in the report governments would also love tech giants

to get more responsible among other winners advertisers who'd be protected from anything controversial you post with a flag any of my stuff is controversial i haven't posted much since my college days how far as the next web evolution step when users will be told what to post keep reading their. report and you'll see it coming companies should put their foot down when it comes to users this is the type of speech we would like to see here and you are part of a community when you join us google bosses once promised to come up with a way to make politics better just after mr trump made himself mr president i certainly find the selection deeply offensive and i know many of you to think that so it's worth be very vigilant in thinking about all these issues what can we do to lead to. maybe a better quality of governance decision making and so forth we had our tea wrote an

official ok google request on the report they didn't confirm or deny the document existed but gave an update on their commitments committed to free expression supporting the free flow of ideas is cool to a mission. well we have developed our own content policies we enforce them in a political way and so seven out of ten americans think tech giants do censor political views hate good sense or google they're just not buying it i'm not surprised at all this is pretty much confirmation for many of us who have been talking about google who consistently engage in this issue of conservative viewpoints the piece the document that was released to pretty much outlines it all is a lot of opinion in there things that they consider to be right extremist are simply just normal things that average people talk about a lie but you see the political by states in google they say one thing publicly but

obviously they do different things privately is all about who's given a platform who's allowed to be heard and those that are heard are the minority and they're giving they're given loud voices by google facebook twitter because google facebook twitter agree with their particular points of view therefore they will be the ones that are hurt that does it for me i will be back with headlines in about thirty three and a half minutes you are watching our two international stay with us. thank. me.

while going to politicking on larry king on wednesday homeland security secretary kirsten nielsen and f.b.i. director christopher ray said that china is engaged in an unprecedented influence campaign leading into the midterms and the twenty twenty presidential elections what have a new russia is meddling is this a new and legitimate threat or a diversion from the russian investigate. the all political panel led john went back republican strategist former chairman of the republican party of virginia he's in lansdown. virginia and in chattanooga tennessee brian joyce host of the brian joy's show on talk radio on w g o w f.m. john what do you make of this warning is amount china. you know

i look any any serious threat to our election system needs to be taken seriously and i think in terms of the question of whether it's a diversion there's been so much news lately if you haven't noticed i'm not sure that anything's going to be a diversion at this point there's just too much going on i mean the kavanaugh story and what not so i don't know whether it's a diversion from the rest investigation the rest of us to geisha is way in the back burner anyway so i think it's some we should take seriously like we should any threat to our election system run and. i think john's probably right about that i know in the trump administration i'm sure it's a combination of both i'm sure it's probably a legitimate threat i'm sure a lot of this is also smoke and mirrors but to john's point really at this point of the game there has been so much that has come out the past couple of weeks especially with the kavanaugh nomination in the cavanagh confirmation i don't know if a lot of americans larry to be honest i don't know if they even remember about russian meddling and i don't know if they would even care that there's chinese battling so

it'll be interesting to say ok john ford motor company says it plans massive layoffs and blames trump's tariffs for a one billion dollars in losses to the ford motor company how do you react to that . why i like to see the evidence of that i think you know i've never been one that's been very pro tariff but one of the things i think that we need to remember is this economy is on fire and it would be really shocking to me if an automaker in this good of an economy which is one of the metrics we look at for a good economy to our auto sales and gasoline and whatnot it be really shocking to me if they're being left behind because of a tariff policy that sonu and i think we have a little deeper into that before we come to that conclusion.
