incredibly important when you're the president of united states to set the kind of tone that brings americans together and doesn't divide them and doesn't and doesn't fetish the kind of violence that we're seeing this president holds rallies and has held rallies across the country where he encourages his supporters to rough up protesters as well pay their pay their legal fees you know so this doesn't come out of nowhere to run and the idea that it's hard go ahead go ahead finish. i was going say the idea that you know somehow this is just the way that the times are now or that this is happening you know from both sides just just isn't isn't rooted in fact john i know you're not here is a spokesman for the president but. those who would jake said make some sense to you . well i think what's really infuriating is york do you do you recognize this

country right now i don't i've never seen it this polarized and angry and our politics being so beyond anything i mean i'm only forty two years old but i just never see them like it and look i mean steve schoolies was gunned down maxine waters is calling for violence against republicans it's everywhere it's not just one person and i just it's a tragedy i think that when these midterms are over i pray that this will at least bring the tone down but look ever bears blame to go around everywhere with every party and up until now the president's message of jobs not mobs has really been a one sided indictment of the behavior of the extreme progressive left but look there's blame to go around everywhere and i think we all need to calm down i hope that our politics can return to somewhat normal here in the next young one should know the president. that shouldn't he lead responsibly not be part of anything like a model. they all they all should be above it i mean look the democrat

when one side is talking about the press as the enemy of the people when one side is calling democrats evil and saying that they are violent mobs when one side is encouraging their supporters to commit assault. is praising a congressman for body slamming a member of the press then we're not both sides in this thing democrats are for peaceful assembly and pressuring lawmakers to do the right thing they're not for violence and the president of united states should be above all this he should set an example tongue is looking into ways john the department of justice is full of the idea the government limiting hate speech how much of this do you put on social media john. yeah you know we are a comma jack kemp republican and i think that the party's message should at all times be consistent with our history we were formed to stop slavery we were always the party of equal rights equal justice under law and you know some of the things

that's coming out of the extreme right right now should be completely rejected by the republican party and by conservatism in general and the social media plays into that i mean a lot of these groups are able to use social media the media amplifies it tries to tie it to my party and you know social media is being you is being weaponized in a lot of ways by by the media and by these far right groups and it's up to republicans a stand against it jake taliban the hyper partisan talk show host bloggers are they part of this tragedy. absolute there's no doubt that this kind of thing it's that attacks and conspiracy theories get amplified in the media we saw that you know back when someone came into. one into a pizza place in in d.c. a with with a gun because they believe that there was a. child sex trafficking ring being run by democrats out of the basement and that

all came from these sort of hyper partisan fringe folks who are peddling conspiracy theories and are pushing this sort of end times rhetoric so certainly there is a great amount of responsibility taken by these fringe figures but you know part of it is that some of the more. you know the people who should be. cooling these tensions are instead inflaming them and we saw it again when you know when president trump you know spoke with alex jones from info wars when when you invite you know breitbart into the white house that's sort of what you're encouraging and peep. do need to be more responsible than this the fringe is always going to be the friends the question is sort of what kind of air you give to it and certainly people in positions of power and people in positions of responsibility shouldn't be doing that it's not acceptable it shouldn't happen john you say you're

a. jack kemp republican i knew jack very well spent many hours of them on and off the air where he'd think of what's gone on today. i think he would think that the party our party the republican parties missed a really big opportunity and that is to insure its own survival by making it appeal to new voters new communities minority communities specifically i mean we are supposed to be the party that was formed for that very purpose was to you know to liberate provide equal justice and i think jack kemp's message was the right one and one we should get back to and it's a shame that. the media has a lot to do with with misrepresenting a lot of where our party stands on issues but it's a shame that our party is not focused more on that and should be right now. to get to some of the areas the investigations the explosive devices continues with so it was the march of immigrant count of them two of the u.s.

born in this interim states that there were terrorists within the count of and nothing's been proven what do you make of that mess. well the president statements are incredibly shameful and this is just another example as we were just talking about of him just making the statement that inflammatory and offensive without any kind of evidence without any kind of reasoning behind him except for getting his supporters all riled up you know that there. unfortunately the republican party is a long way from the party of equal rights you know and the party of lincoln that they that they like to talk about because you know we're heading into an election where the main message of the republican party is you should be afraid you should be afraid of this caravan of refugees of people trying to escape horrific economic conditions horrific violence who are by the way about a thousand miles away it'll take them weeks if not months to reach the border where they will be presenting themselves at the border to ask for asylum these are people

trying to force their way into our country or trying to engage in violence these are these are people trying to lawfully present themselves at the border for asylum because of horrific conditions in their home country it's seven thousand people is not a violent mob and so the president's comments are incredibly incredibly unacceptable and they're irresponsible and this assertion of his that there are sort of these unknown middle easterners in this caravan they're insane and it doesn't make any sense except as a fear mongering tactic which tells you something about where this president coming is coming from and it's. leisure and as it's awful john what do you make. then. well i think it's absurd to say that the message of the republican party right now is to be afraid of the caravan i don't know of a single battleground state where the house is going to be decided or

a state where the senate so we decided where the candidates or the incumbents are campaigning on this mob of people coming up by the caravan their talk about tax cuts they're talking about the left to being on hinged in its rhetoric maxine waters being the face of the party doesn't talk about that they're not talk about this mob and you know the source for what turned out to be an absurd comment about the middle east infiltrators in this mob came actually from the governor of texas. this who's information. is probably wrong so i you know i think the media is pushing this narrative the republican party is not sitting there you know put throwing everything they've got into shit you know scaring you in this caravan the caravan was created by the people in the caravan and the media picked it up it has made it an issue and it's trying to use it as a race baiting tactic about how you know republicans are races because democrats have absolutely no agenda and they're falling back on the same thing they do every time republicans are racists look what they're saying about this caravan and we're

maybe a maximum of five seats in the senate and the house is a toss up i definitely would have said the democrats had the house easily won a few months ago but the incredible surge by republican candidates and enthusiasm of our base is really been amazing over the last few i think the democrats way overplayed their hand and a lot of these issues i think the notion that in an economy as on fire as this economy is that somehow you know we're holding republicans accountable for mismanagement just is inconsistent with the truth so i don't know what's going to happen in the house that could go either way but i think whoever holds the house in the end if the democrats have a majority of republicans retain a majority it's going to be by a slim margin of a few seats. you know on a dig but. almost sound like you think the democrats are going to take the house. i would i would love for that to be the case you know i think that i think the republicans have showed unfortunately over the last couple of years that they're

just not interested in holding this president accountable that they're sort of going to go where he goes and i think in in an administration like this one in particular you know you need somebody who is helping to cool the jets and you know the republicans just aren't going to do it they're not going to stand up to this administration and i'm hopeful that we will have enough folks who are beholden to their districts and not to their donors in order to stand up against some of the things that we're seeing and to provide some you know some real balance and some real oversight which i think this country really wants john do you spend huge turnouts on november sixth. i do i actually think that the republicans are smart to model this after closer to twenty sixteen than twenty fourteen i think one of the early signs that this is going to be the case was you all remember the georgia sixth race between karen handel and john also off that was

sort of the first suburban district outlier district that you know would go read most elections but it was somehow looking very close turned out to not be as close as predicted but that was the race where democrats actually turned out way more than were expected for a special election and the reason why karen handel won by a few points was because republicans just turned out more in my home district where i live virginia ten barbara comstock versus jennifer waxed in the plan for both sides needs to be turnout that's way above and beyond what we saw in two thousand and fourteen where barbara comstock won by sixteen points so this is not going to be a normal midterm and the republican party the democrat party would be well served and thinking of. yes as a high turnout historic election thank you both john jay we hope to have you both back again real soon. thank you thank you larry donald trump surprise the world by recently announcing his intentions to terminate the intermediate range nuclear

president has identified as enemies of the people in some instances and really has unsettled a lot of people here in washington about about really the real world impacts potentially environment we're in how do these events play overseas well i think what it does is it just highlights for an international audience. the kind of dynamics that we have right now in the united states our politics are too vicious in terms of the way people are are talking about each other talking about issues and perhaps countries around the world aren't quite aware of how divisive it's become but this may very well highlight that you've written the. tragedy for vides a chance to reset congress's foreign policy i mean how do you mean thanks really do

i think jamal khashoggi fair really has brought together a variety of threads about america's role in the middle east and internationally what are we trying to do and who are we doing this with and we essentially saw the trump administration for a couple of weeks withhold judgment and in fact cover for saudi. arabia who ultimately took responsibility for his killing and up until now we have had a policy in the middle east where we have tried to lead our policy rather than follow another country and we've invested ourselves so much in saudi arabia in terms of policy and they're taking us into a place where a lot of americans certainly in congress are not comfortable and broadly speaking the american people did not like the trump administration's response to it so we need to have a real reset about what our priorities are regarding saudi arabia and in the region obama supports saudi option he did he absolutely did and in fact the roots of the the support for america american support for the saudi bombing of yemen those

routes were built in the obama administration and it's reckoning of sorts for a lot of the policy waders from both parties in terms of that war but what's different in this case is that the trump administration has really personalized its support for saudi arabia in engaging directly and in looking for saudi support related to iran related to the palestinian israeli peace process and we don't quite know yet what the relations are between jericho center and the crown prince behind the scenes in so there's a lot of skepticism about the champion ministrations reaction to this killing and concerns that maybe the car ministration wants to go soft on what should be a very clear place to go difficult and go hard or what do you make about trump trying to terminate that intermediate range nuclear force treaty with russia. we

are seeing the slow unraveling of the arms control infrastructure and global. protocol that protect us from nuclear war and why you know we we currently have a first and foremost russia has been in violation of the i.n.f. treaty according to both the obama administration and the trumpet ministration for a number of years but that doesn't mean that the treaty is not relevant anymore this treaty as you mentioned the beginning three decades old it took away thousands of of nuclear warheads from europe the european support it creates guardrails in the mechanism for us in russia no treaties are perfect implementation always has problems the danger is that when you throw away treaties and john bolton the national security advisor argued against this treaty for years. they have to be replaced with something and so right now we're on the verge of having literally just one treaty left with russia and that's the new start treaty as in regards to

nuclear weapons and i think the president articulated the position that if we walk away somehow russia will come back and seek a better deal and that was the argument he made about pulling out of the transpacific pacific partnership trade deal with asia and we walked away and they haven't come back and look for us it's a very risky move what do you make of trump probably declaring himself a nationalist. the word has a lot of connotation i believe that americans who understand the word nationalism know that that connotes military conflict that nationalism amongst countries particularly during world war two and prior to that led countries to want to fight each other militarily and we moved away from that multilateralism is part of that but american patriotism that's the real national if there was here in the united states being a patriot is something one can be proud of being

a nationalist implies the united states really looks to conflict with other countries rather than cooperation is also a racist to it do you think. well you certainly right now there are a lot of concerns in the democratic party in particular about the language being used towards for example the caravan of migrants from central america i served in the peace corps in central america so i have an affinity for that part of the world and it's it's a very humble part of the world and the attacks against them which are using coded racial racial language that is very troubling and we're seeing now in georgia for example in the election that a dominant number of people kicks off the voter rolls or african-american in north dakota a number of native americans kicked off the voter rolls in very questionable maneuvers by republican leaders in those states so racial politics in america is coming to
