south korea would have the japanese filmmaker compensation for. that for the second . the latest on the story of how tough to tell they went to the bank. this week show germs they're everywhere but is the way we're of voiding them in fighting super bugs but first are private investigators and force lawyers reading your facebook wall i'm hala cook in washington this is the big picture on our team america.
11:02 pm
facebook is fine and you might think it's free tell that to divorce defendants who went to the cleaners when carolus social media post came back to haunt them a survey by the american academy of matrimonial lawyers found eighty one percent of divorce cases involving social networking evidence mainly from facebook are you exposed and what to do if you are suspicious let's ask kristin ruby c.e.o. ruby media group a public relations and social media agency in manhattan she is a social media expert and she has pertinent experience with private investigations her website is a great resource ruby media group dot com also joining us from our new york bureau is divorce trial attorney james sexton whose thousand plus
11:03 pm
clients marriages has dissolved over everything from trysts with a nanny or personal trainer through i'm even division of carpool duties and of course money he's the author of if you're in my office it's already too late divorce lawyers guide to stay together welcome both. thanks so much great to be here jim despite your resume you call your book how not to book for the people who have not set foot in your office why should we take staying together advice from somebody who lives in splitsville. you know it's a great question and the truth is that doctors have been writing books about how to stay healthy for quite a great since the history of books and people are still getting sick and tired crews have been writing books about how to you know stay stay fit and people are still wandering around fat so i think sometimes. there's a lot to learn from watching the people who see what goes wrong about what to do
11:04 pm
right chris to avoid ending up in jim's office what are some of the fundamental social media don't people should avoid there are so many social media accounts to avoid you know one you want to make sure you are not looking are sending direct messages to members of the opposite sex you want to not leave comments on members of the opposite sex is wall you want to not accidentally reply to a story of a member of the opposite sex who may or may not be someone you have even dated at one point and then keep a conversation going you want to make sure that you're not tagged being tagged in photos with members of the opposite sex one on one if that makes your partner feel uncomfortable there are so many different things here but the most important thing is to have social media boundaries upfront so you even understand what they do is or don't are with your partner and even if you have been judicious about who can or can't see your wall some of the people who can and can still share what's there with some of the people who can't read chris. of course they can yeah i mean that's
11:05 pm
the other problem here especially with facebook they continue to change privacy settings so people think oh you know if it's only my friends no one else can see it well that's actually not true we see that also investigative work all the time you know what you see what you say on social media can be screen shot of same thing with facebook live stories instagram live stories people think because it's disappearing for only twenty four hours no one's ever going to see it again i'm here to say that's just a flat out lie and so if it's strange anyone can use it against you now jim you know there is a critic chris is go ahead chris has a great point there you know chris christie be more right and it really is true that people can be as careful as they want their khorasan of things but just as chris said you know once it's out there it's out there i have endless clients who have ensured that they have their spouse or soon to be ex-pats blocked but they don't realize that there is a mutual friend in common someone. knew during their marriage who's feeding all of that social media stuff that they think is
11:06 pm
a block from their soon to be ex spouse and it's really just being fed right to this person and used against them in a court of law so you know she's absolutely correct screenshots you know screen captures screen grabs before i walked in to the studio today i received a whole array of screenshots from a client of mine from her husband's facebook wall that she got from an old acquaintance and they're going to be used against this guy in a custody trial so it happens way more than anyone would think you know once it's out there it's out there so based on chris's advice just now and in a way that you can talk about on t.v. counselor share some social media horror stories that have crossed your desk in the divorce cases you've handled. well i mean if i had a dollar for every social media horror story in connection with a divorce that i'd have precisely the same number of dollars i probably have and the truth is divorce law has really it's become a tremendous source of information mining for us from fathers who say that they're limiting their alcohol use to then get you know a tag in a friend's photo at
11:07 pm
a bar with empty shot glasses in front of them to photos there were people get tagged in the background i had a client i talk about in my book who actually ended up on a screen capture from a toby keith concert that he had been at with his secret girlfriend that his wife didn't know about his wife cruelly found out about it through looking at facebook and just stumbling on this particular picture so you know putting anything on your facebook that you wouldn't want to put on the big screen in times square is probably not a great idea and no matter how much curating you do of the people who you communicate with it's just such a big pool of users out there in the world of social media and you know you hang around a barbershop long enough you're gonna get a haircut so it's hard to resist the temptations that come with it well facebook founder mark zuckerberg reckons that people have really gotten comfortable not only sharing more information and different kinds but more openly and with more people chris about the psychology of social media why do we over share. i think
11:08 pm
we over share for a number of reasons but i also think it's because chemically you know i think we're almost becoming addicted to that rush there's been recent studies that have shown that social media usage repeatedly trigger is actually a dopamine high in the user that does it and so the problem is becoming that it's not just social media anymore social people say oh it's social media doesn't really matter now i think social media is actually replacing so many real world interactions and that doesn't do it justice so i think what's happening is social media is essentially replacing the role of our partner so if you're getting you know dopamine high off of posting something important and you get fifty likes well those fifty likes are suddenly more important than the one like of the person that you've chosen to be with you because there's just more right you're just getting more of it and so the problem is if you can get that dopamine high in that rush from people you know online then why do you what is the role of your partner in
11:09 pm
that right now are they still even there do you need them well not really it's actually happening on a biochemical level hey jim in chapter fourteen of your book if you're in my office it's already too late you define the five kinds of infidelity and number one being what you term the freshly discovered soul mate often discovered on facebook describe how that slippery slope works. yeah you know i think what chris just said about you know the manner in which we get this feedback from social media in the way it reinforces our pleasure centers is absolutely key you know if you really think about it when you're in the greatest moments of your life when the with your kids or with your spouse you're having a wonderful meal something like that that's not when you're checking your social media you know you're checking your social media when you're lonely when you're bored when you're sitting you know in the subway when you're sitting by yourself and so you're using it when you're at a time when you're feeling very susceptible when you're feeling very disconnected from yourself and from your life now meanwhile what are you looking at. you're
11:10 pm
looking at an incredibly curated version of someone's life you're looking at their greatest hits no one puts on their facebook or their instagram you know all the pictures of the boring meals they had and the parts of the vacation where they got sunburned they put up all the pictures where they're having a great time and they're happy so think about that combination we've got a perfect storm we've got a situation where you're looking at a curated greatest hits of everyone else's life while you're sitting in these boring you know stolen moments of your own life and that's going to make everybody feel dissatisfied with what they're doing in that particular moment and think everyone else is having a better time in a better relationship than them so the idea of the freshly discovered soul mate it's really just about people being reconnected on social media with people from their past sometimes from high school from college a simpler time when they had less stress and less difficulties in their time seeing this curated version of that person's present day life and then just reconnecting with that person and feeling this deep sense of longing because again we're using the social media times where we're not feeling deeply connected to our present
11:11 pm
moment to our lives and that just creates for people the sense that where they should be grass on the other side of the fence is so much greener than where they are right we're almost out of time but chris while we have you were talking about how careless use of social media can derail personal relationships but your website ruby media group dot com has lots for businesses you're generous with advice for health care and real estate and other businesses i've got about thirty seconds so don't overthink it right off the top your head what are some of the common thread mistakes businesses make on social media. so many i mean the number one rule of thumb is that they're spamming people right so if they're not really investing in the proper content marketing they're making it all about them and not about you know their customer their client base my number one ten for businesses to consider is when in doubt leave it out. another one is that social media should enhance their business not take away from it. thank you kristen ruby ruby media

group and attorney. and author james sexton. coming up as we go to air we learn that a tenth child has died from a virus spreading through a rehab center in new jersey and germs are everywhere but before you baby them hand sanitizer listen to two doctors we're going to talk to next this is the big picture on our team america. given the way in which the last terrorist attacks were proclaimed structured using european logistics these as you can see there's a certain desire to change the way of life change to society and for us.

in twenty forty you know bloody revolution of. the demonstrations going from being relatively peaceful political protests to be increasingly violent revolution is always spontaneous or is it you know lawyer here to put it but i mean you know this book to do with putting me in the new bill is that i knew pulling me to the full the ukrainian president recalls the events of twenty fourteen. those who took. it invested over five billion dollars to assist you in these enough to. secure and prosperous and democratic. sherm's there's good news and bad news the bad news is germs are everywhere there
11:15 pm
are microbes in the air we breathe and germs are on every surface you touch including your surface the good news most germs won't harm you because your immune system is on guard and some germs are vital you may squirm at the mere mention of bacteria but they're in your intestines right now helping you digest you might even drink a probiotic to help them but antibiotics which attack the harmful bacteria that make us sick have been losing their punch and new super bugs are fighting back how do we win that war let's ask dr sherry tenpenny who has authored several books and found a tenpenny integrative medical center in the cleveland area from which she joins us welcome back sheri and hello to dr eric braverman founder and director of path medical p a t h as in plan achieving total health he joins us from our team new york eric germs one o one give us the short version thumbnail definition. ns of bacteria or virus
11:16 pm
cetera ok well viruses like almost like a piece of d.n.a. that floats around in attacks your cells the bacteria are living organisms like you said there's more bacteria in our body helping us digest make vitamins and do a lot of great things as well as when we get out of just been hurt us and kill us there's fungus and other things that will infect us and get into our body we call it they come through the holes the hole in your skin the holes in your nose the holes and what you eat you get is supposed to a massive amount of germs and hygiene and vaccination are the cornerstones of building your immune system protecting you whether it's rats ticks flies mosquitoes well larry flu have killed more than all the wars of the world so we have a great system going in the united states with our flu vaccine our vaccination program we have a great system that still needs to be upgraded which is hygiene in our cities with
11:17 pm
our air and our streets need to be clean around our homes but the reality is that the united states hygiene in vaccination system is built the immune system protects the united states and helps us live a long life sherry tell me if i'm explaining this superbug come under improperly are we over using antibiotics and the germs they're fighting are fighting back and mutating in a way that will make them alternately immune to antibiotics yes that's actually really is happening you know we have more than a thousand different strains of bacteria that live on our skin and somewhere between twenty and forty trillion bacteria that line our respiratory system in our g.i. tract and they are doing good things just like what dr braverman said but by using all of these antibiotics what we are doing is we are killing off the good guys along with the bad guys and we kill off the good guys nature abhors a vacuum and so it fills in with much more aggressive types of bacteria but you
11:18 pm
know this argument goes back all. the way to the late eighteenth hundred so in the there was always these big discussions between pastore and claude and the shop and but noureddin and i was always saying it's all about the terrain and he was saying that when we are healthy from the inside out when we take care of our bodies with good nutrition with hygiene with good hydration that we are resistant to these bacteria that we swim in every day that we are constantly exposed through our environment through animals in our homes were constantly exposed but not everyone gets sick even when they are exposed to very ill and organisms that are not even though you're exposed you don't always get sick and even if you do get sick you don't get always get the worst case scenario so it's health from the inside out and that argument goes back to the late eight hundred so all ready there's one word i hope viewers remember if they only remember one word because you both spoke at its hygiene sherry kids get sick a lot they haven't had everything yet and they pass around what they caught at school and then they bring out all our mom and dad doomed to catch what their
11:19 pm
school kids bring home or do we eventually build up immunity. well it's all about health from the inside out it's good food it's clean water it's washing your hands frequently but not obsessive really it's taking good care of your body because we have receptor is inside of our body that the fancy medical term is called toll like receptor is and they are on vigilance all the time and they look at all the bacteria that we get exposed to and they neutralize them millions of times a day without any of fanfare and so just because you're exposed because your kids may be exposed to other kids who may be shedding viruses from their vaccines they may be just in a in a in an area where they have a lot of exposure just because you're exposed doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get sick eric doctors are super busy and managed care as i'm under the gun to keep the line moving is the way antibiotics are being prescribed lazy should the health care consumer question the doc about alternatives and what are the
11:20 pm
alternatives well sometimes or they're prescribed for viruses and they're not going to help the key thing for easy understanding of diseases there's germs and there spam spam would be all the things that are bad air you got to chill you got sick i mean some of the new infections are due to extreme cold or exposures to animals it's spam it's edition after edition after addition to the point where the system breaks or it's germ after germ after germ so what we need to know that we don't want to just say antibiotics the doctors are just add humans to the palance and to the family and to the public health officials and the world is unfortunately and fortunately a neighborhood but not a brotherhood when it comes to hygiene so disease spreads from other countries that have terrible vaccine histories that skip vaccines i mean russian kids when they come to the united states the doctors don't believe the vaccine schedule for anything they don't have any faith in the vaccine schedule that are listed all in
11:21 pm
the same dates so the reality is you've got to think of disease as spam meaning a total exposure. sure and life mistakes you didn't get enough sleep you got children and take a bath get in shower get into steaming and do neti pot and get into the vaccines you didn't get a flu shot this year you got exposed to other people and you let them touch your kids kiss your kids whatever it was or the kid touched the feces and went to the mouth or kissing the dog or there's a rabbit or a bird or a pigeons or whatever these what we call the the vector of the text the mosquitoes rats even cities need national strategies together to keep the cities clean of these types of animals we need that scene strategies around the world that have to be increased africa needs more vaccines most of the world needs more vaccines and everybody still needs to become a health advocate themselves living the life that she just described and that i described where people really are hygiene oriented but they're also health oriented
11:22 pm
it's what you eat that you eat raw fish to eat raw meat did you get exposed to raw shellfish where for example hepatitis a is endemic and be endemic all over asia because of the wrong dietary practices right so infection goes everywhere so yeah i touched a nerve because i travel a lot and after hearing how germany they are i always wipe down the t.v. remote and hotel rooms but sherry are we overdoing it with hand sanitizer. absolutely i do believe we are. you know we are exposed to all kinds of pathogens but just because we're exposed doesn't necessarily mean we're going to get ill in fact even with the annual flu shot there is a condition called influenza like illness and by c.d.c.'s data eighty four to eighty five percent of the time when people get sick during the winter time it's by some other pathogen other than the influenza virus and the influenza virus is only given you are only given any protection by the flu shot against the influenza virus
11:23 pm
and so eighty five percent of the time you can be exposed to something else and get sick even if you've had a flu shot so exposure is not the same thing as becoming sick and i really like to talk about bacteria and viral infections instead of calling them diseases because diseases implies scary long term life threatening things when the vast majority of illnesses that are caused by an infection coming go in seven to ten days and are gone and leaving behind a lifetime of immunity and over use of these bacterial hand sanitizers over use of bacteria are of antibiotics to kill off all the good bacteria in our gut just leaves us more vulnerable to having a toxic load of things that come into our system and make us sick so i think that leaving behind the antibiotics for the vast majority of time using things like a neti pot getting your vitamin d. level up to an appropriate level somewhere around eighty you can use. it in your
11:24 pm
neti pot to clean out your sciences your sinuses and to do very good things for your gut health because your gut is your is your primary immune system and when your gut is healthy because of good things and you've taken really good care of your probiotics you are much less likely to be susceptible to any type of infection whether it's a vaccine preventable infection or something else you just broke my dog's heart of for example or kiss me anymore. i fly at least twice a week and i've heard. the one about the meal tray being germy or than the lavatory and i see some hassinger is boarding wearing face masks because we're all sneezing and breathing the same air and that lying to a doctor told me that ironically i may be gradually immunizing myself by being so exposed to fact or myth the reality is when you travel you want to be aware of how people spread those droplets remember what i said about the holes everything spreads through old they bite you they grab you they scratch you they go through
11:25 pm
your nose they go into your mouth they're on your hands and i really think if we erred in the world about hygiene versus antibiotics are bigger problem is world hygiene malaria stills kills more infections like flu have killed more in world war one than the whole war did and the reality is that the flu shot is a big homerun it gets you protected in a much bigger way it teaches your immune system to fight other viruses even remember what i told you it's called the germ plus theory or the germ spam plus the reality is it's germs plus the way you live your life and vaccines are part of the whole process they've been there since george washington did the pox vaccine on our soldiers and it's part of the united states greatness is our vaccination schedule yet even though as i understand it the flu shot is an educated guess every year i got time for one word answers from both ia sherry and then eric get the shot or not
11:26 pm
absolutely not you can do so much better with vitamin d. vitamin a hand washing and doing much better for sleep and keeping yourself much more healthy than by being injected with something that has less than a fifteen percent chance of keeping you from getting sick from influenza virus so it's more than a word but eric get the shot to get the shot that's ridiculous i told you that it's always vaccination plus lifestyle and pastore ambon are both right that you have to live the healthy life but you've got to realize you're sure. by other people they're going to spread stuff all over your kids but they all are all sitting back over the country and your chaos around you that. africa and other countries didn't have access and he just like you and it would change the radio hopping on into is i serious and to all these illnesses i've gotten through the whole segment without having to say doctors do you concur but thank you both dr cheri tenpenny and dr eric braverman for joining us here on the big picture. thank you for having us and thank you for watching the big picture if you're watching us somewhere else you can
