a second day in protest against emanuel microbus reforms. paul shows right wing leaves a marine le pen has overtaken french president for the first time head of next year's parliamentary elections. and missed this day a sabin football star in the u.k. refuses to wet his sheds saying it reminds him of when his village was formed in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine. sometimes you should just swallow your own personal. opinions so he obviously has a great story he asked why i think you just have to respect the speedy stream. live from moscow this is r.t. international welcome to the program. in the last hour polls have started closing in the us where tens of millions of americans have been voting in the midterm
7:02 pm
elections which will decide who controls the house of representatives on the senate . let's cross live to our tease caleb maupin who's in washington for us with the latest kaleb good to see if these midterms have generated intense interest and the battle for congress has been hard fought but what's the picture we're getting at the moment. well we're hearing reports of a very large voter turnout now at this point polls are closing right now in the states of georgia florida new hampshire indiana south carolina vermont and virginia an hour earlier they closed at arkansas and kentucky now at this point the united states we're having the midterm elections now this refers to elections that come halfway through a presidential term every two years in the united states people go to the polls to elect members of the house of representatives there are also senate seats that are
7:03 pm
up for a vote as well as governorships now tonight every member of the house of representatives is being voted on in addition there are thirty five seats in the u.s. senate that are up for grabs as well as thirty six state governorships now in the lead up to these midterm elections there has been quite a fanfare usually midterm elections in the united states don't get a lot of participation and really are almost kind of ignored by huge amounts of the u.s. public however this particular midterm vote coming two years into the trump presidency is getting a pretty unprecedented level of attention this is my report from earlier about why that seems to be. usually the midterm elections in the united states are about as exciting as watching the grass grow low public interest and low voter turnout and the ads have a very amateurish quality to them. the agenda a page and. then mr trump said you're right and i love
7:04 pm
that part. so why is the biennial snooze fest suddenly turned into a political extravaganza well it's apparently about one man i'm not on the ticket but i am on the ticket because this is also a referendum about me so let's go over what's at stake. the big one is impeachment. if the pollsters are to be believed the democrats could regain control of the u.s. house of representatives with a majority they could then gain the ability to bring formal charges against the president impeachment has been on the minds of some democrats that he is impeachable the democrats want to retake control of the house so they could move to impeach the president telling me it impeachment. trump should be impeached i would vote yes you would have to take a vote i would vote. now
7:05 pm
the democrats could get the ball rolling with the u.s. house but whether or not they'd be successful is a different story let's remember no president in all of us history has ever been removed through the impeachment process richard nixon came close but he actually resigned before the senate could put him on trial but impeachment fears aside a blue wave could put the brakes on the presidency. so trumps policies that's what's really at stake here if the democrats regain control of the house they could block and delay the donald's plans he can kiss that big beautiful powerful wall goodbye plus if the house goes democrat but the senate remains republican we're going to have some good old fashioned washington gridlock two words for you government shutdown. in the case of a democratic surge we can expect an onslaught of investigations into the trumpet
7:06 pm
ministration with the house majority the democrats could subpoena witnesses and get their hands on key documents this means that all things from business transactions to furniture purchases and sexual assault allegations all of that could come under scrutiny so we are going to have oversight committee hearings on their presence use of the cell phone the democrats take over the house then he's going to be subpoenaed to investigate. to see. the truce now results are hard to predict but one pattern from the post twenty sixteen world seems to be playing out pretty well at the polls americans get to choose between chaos and more chaos cable mup and r.t. washington d.c. with the country massively divided over the trump administration's policies and the democrats desperate to wrest control from the republicans they made tens have been built as a historic contest come paining in fifth. you

cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for. it is a. wacko. left wing mob and that's what the democrats are. two words i'm going to find the money of the two thousand and eighteen election one of them all and the other is caravan supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh brett kavanaugh witches that are placing a hat on brett kavanaugh caravan invasion or about the caravan caravan. a series of suspicious packages sent across the country mail by mail bombs fire alarm here will keep you posted on that. believe me.
7:08 pm
some u.s. officials have been raising the alarm of a possible foreign interference of the midterms the trump administration has accused china russia and iran is meddling in the votes. gives his take on the controversy. i want to make sure everyone's been warned i'm going to switch off the maddening madness. it just won't turn off there's no way it turns off even the idea is madness and
7:09 pm
if it wasn't for the for the twenty thousand vote journalists would have missed out on some big breaking news breaking news tonight what appears to be the first identified case of russian election interference in the twenty two midterms quote the russian intelligence agency targeted senator claire mccaskill as she began her twenty thousand reelection campaign in earnest plenty of air time would have to be filled with other top stories russia is added again interfering in the two thousand and eight midterm elections been control of congress and stakes do we know what they are doing what is russia's goal you can just create a whole new army try to sell any kind of mayhem or a disk or if they can just openly and publicly shames these election to always and spread false information here in the us if it wasn't for the meddling madness comedians would have had to work on finding inspiration do you think the russians
7:10 pm
will meddle in the two thousand and eight elections the offer was made and we've accepted. their russian so they were all messed up inside one b. . if it wasn't for the meddling madness politicians wouldn't have had the chance to prove they got the guts to stand up to prove like this senator from missouri whose reelection attempts apparently made her a target for russian scheming. i will not be intimidated i've said it before and will say to get pretty and parag obama as someone who's no longer bothered by putin now that he's out of the game or is he what. so the republican party its central organizing principle was the fight against communism and now they're closing up to the former head of the k.g.b. if it wasn't for the meddling not the election wouldn't have hit america for an
7:11 pm
extra few hundred million dollars see what are you talking about who cares if the folks busy with the meddling probe said none of it really affected the actual result we can certify. with no vote who were affected with the tallies directly i think. anyway sure we're going to go through that dairy some important people say that slap around the face of america was almost as bad as nine eleven we have been attacked by a foreign power and have done nothing i mean would be like after nine eleven george w. bush said well we will rebuild new york from the pentagon but we're not going to worry about it well at a certain point that's what this is turning into if we're going to talk about the real meddling issues this year the real trouble is totally off your radar regrettably we've found that china has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming
7:12 pm
twenty eight. election against my administration what the russians are doing pales in comparison to what china is doing across this country although you do know words and proof are not the same thing come on we haven't even heard exactly what the chinese meddling masters have been up to but that didn't stop some republicans from doubling down on their china bashing campaign rounds china study history and the story long time ago that systematically thieves and went to the free trade system really didn't just for your information mr hall he's running for the same senate seat. someone i've already told you about. what was it won't be intimidated by that dog. so if you still don't get it twenty terms is actually just a rush versus china showdown and the meddling madness league season.
7:13 pm
well the first results are already trickling in from the us so far the democrats and republicans have both secured two seats each the republicans have won seats in the house of representatives in georgia and kentucky while the democrats have won one in georgia and one in virginia. iran's foreign minister has released a video lashing out at renewed u.s. sanctions mohammed added he's focused on minimizing the effects on his people. the u.s. administration appears to be that imposing draconian sanctions on iran will bring about such pain to our nation that it will force us to submit to its rhythm no matter how absurd. or fundamentally flawed its demands are and today we and our partners across the globe will ensure that our people are the least
7:14 pm
affected by this indiscriminate assault in the economic warfare that directly targets the iranian people notwithstanding hypocritical claims by the trumpet ministration to the contrary. and iran chased a spain joint russia in condemning u.s. demands that countries follow its renewed sanctions on iran speaking at a joint news conference in madrid moscow's foreign minister sergey lavrov said u.s. actions on toronto absolutely illegitimate and disappointing adding that washington's ultimatums a quote an acceptable his spanish counterparts chose it for al echoed those concerns see it going to continue still there actually i agree with minister love the fin his rejection of any kind of approach that sounds like an ultimatum including from the u.s. the e.u. and spain in particular have been very critical of the usas unilateral decision to denounce the nuclear agreement with the room and most which affects us badly from
7:15 pm
the point of view of the economy and security and the european union insisted on doing everything possible to keep this agreement alive and for the sake of our companies so that they can continue working investing and trading with iran the information that we have is that iran is complying with its commitments in this agreement and the u.s. does not have any arguments no reason to reject it out of step with meanwhile france germany and the u.k. have issued a joint statement defying trumps threats to european companies doing business with the islamic republic they say though worked. to maintain and develop financial channels with iran and moscow insist tehran has been in full compliance with the terms of the nuclear deal donald trump described the new restrictions as the strongest american sanctions against iran their facts more than seven hundred individuals they also aggressively target the financial energy and shipping sexes but load the newest former deputy speaker of the belgian parliament says the move
7:16 pm
may have dangerous consequences. up until now foreign policy of the united. sorry was mainly you know reflexive of whatever the united states has said not because they're just full of loot good they're mostly agree with it also and now there's a fundamental disagreement governments and public opinion is not always exec the same i mean the government here in belgium and holland and so are very slow in decent matters but basically when they are so slow in not standing by the u.s. that they'll do a lot of things already given also the historical context so we're discworld go you never know and i hope that it will work out somehow because this is indeed a friday dangerous situation but it is more than that this has to do i mean you should not forget why is the u.s. so aggressive against iran has nothing to do with the return of the character of
7:17 pm
that regime because we have two regimes that are allies in that area without far worse i mean saudi arabia to name just one it has to do with the feeling that they have that they're losing control of the middle east and then that this one country that doesn't abide by the rules their rules that is to speak and i do believe that my fear is also that for the moment you know in the past obama even george bush junior you knew that somehow there were advisers in the background who said ok it looks let's turn now on this a bit and but this president doesn't he didn't even have reasonable advise us by his side. still to come on our take power medics in paris bring the city's ring right to a standstill for the second day running we'll have that story for you up for a short break.

colluding. to rob the global. welcome back to the program paris paramedics abroad blocking the city's ring road and other key routes for a second day with so-called snail protests sirens blazing ambulances parked across road some reportedly causing hundreds of kilometers of traffic jams and demonstrations save the changes in conditions that paramedics say will put them out of way.
7:20 pm
to zero zero zero zero. the protests and just the latest hit france in recent weeks they come as rightwing party leader marine le pen overtakes the money for the first time in the polls ahead of the parliamentary elections next year on course takes a closer look. france has broken out into protest as of late on nov fifth five hundred paramedics as well as two thousand supporters took to the streets to protest a government reform that would end state funding towards medical transportation and on the same day macron found himself trying to diffuse growing up roar about the rising taxes on fuel prices in france already angry citizens are prepared to block roads on nov seventeenth in response to this with authorities preparing for the
7:21 pm
worst and recently there were even several severe building collapses in a poor neighborhood of mar say with leftist politician john look mel and sean saying that it was due to an indifference to poverty in france and the latest polls are actually seriously reflecting this says for the first time ever marine le pen and her euro skeptic party are polling at twenty one percent that's higher than macron and his party's nineteen percent and amidst all this macron is beginning to promise things on an e.u. scale for example a new european army separate from nato and dependency on the united states we can't protect europeans without a real european army faced with a rush to run a buddhas that's shown itself capable of being a threat i want to create a proper security built against russia which is a country i respect which is itself european we need a europe that can defend itself alone without depending only on the united states in a way that exhibits great to sovereignty so as macron continues to focus on issues
7:22 pm
like a european wide army and these problems internally in france become larger issues for him it just starts to seem more and more like he'd rather become president of the european union than continue as president of france. a style meant to fail to one of england's top football clubs has received a piece and pretzels sation media after refusing to wear the traditional remembrance had to. well mr de which marks the end of world war one in saturday's match for manchester united so. did not wear the flower which will which is also seen as a tribute to modern day british service members he later explained his decision. i recognize truly why people wear poppies i totally respect everyone's right to do so and i have told you sympathy for anyone who has lost off one's duty conflict however for me it is only a reminder of the bombing of serbia in one thousand nine hundred nine on reflection
7:23 pm
i now don't feel it is right for me to wear the poppy on my shirt. in reportedly said the as she would say fundamental to him that he would leave the club and england's if forced to wear the trip and. picks up the story it's not every day you see a professional footballer take a hard political stance but that's exactly what manchester united. did regarding wearing the poppy well you would think that this would pacify all the tension because it was heavily criticized for not wearing this poppy but yes some people took to social media to deliver a lot of abuse towards the serbian player now some were suggesting that he should be injured others were saying that he should leave the country and play elsewhere but in serbia his decision received some praise appreciate it a season politics shouldn't be involved in a sports team that people should not attack him about in the season i appreciate
7:24 pm
also decision to explain to fans why he made the decision on the game and in general. i would do the same i think he did the right thing and then when your mouth it's no i think is the. really really big you know. like a man you know because this is the good good good think he's doing now but even in the england itself explanation left very mixed response some people actually defended him and said they respected his choice after all he was not even an english player but say that to stoke city's james maclean from republic of ireland who also refused to wear a poppy and got so much abuse coming towards him that it. you know the social media literally exploded with vile things said about the republic of ireland international player and he even had somewhat of a confrontation with the fans at one of the recent stock city's games so all this basically raises a big question what is wearing a poppy in england
7:25 pm
a symbol remembrance or something that you can use as a stick to hit a player if you refuses to wear it based on his nationality if you are doing it. then i think that really sometimes you should swallow your own personal. opinions i don't think. it is dealing with. the war us become but. if he lives and works in britain. on the national. special. you can find more details on any of our story. i'll be with you at the top of the hour with the latest.
