year's parliamentary election. and the heads of all missed it say a sabian football star in the u.k. refuses to wear a poppy on his shirts saying it reminds him of when his village was poems and nine hundred ninety nine. some traumas you should just swallow your own personal. opinions so the obviously has a great post repeatedly asked why don't you just have to respect the street in the street. you're watching r t international with mayhem isha sesay good to have you with us. the first voting results are now coming in from the u.s. where americans have been costing the ballots in crucial midterm elections which will decide who controls the house of representatives on the senate.
9:02 pm
well we can now cross save it's our t's kayleigh more pain in washington for the latest tale of these midterms have generated intense interest in the battle for congress has been hard for us but what's the picture we're getting at the moment. well at the moment some preliminary results are starting to trickle in now at this point the polls have closed throughout the east coast and a lot of the midwest the most recent state to have its polls close was the southern state of arkansas and as results are coming in we are seeing that the democrats seem to have maintained a lot of senate seats that they were expected to keith and we have that too two seats in the u.s. house of representatives have flipped from republican to democrat the first of them was in virginia and now we have the second one in florida that were under the control of a republican but now a democrat has been reluctant to replace them in the house of representatives now
9:03 pm
this is the midterm vote that's happening in the united states the midterm elections take place between the presidential elections we have a presidential election every four years and then every two years there is a congressional vote that takes place in the midterm now tonight we have the house of representatives the representatives running for their seat also a number of senate seats are up for grabs a number of governorships are also up for grabs and we're seeing the results as they come in official results are expected within the next few hours but essentially this is a struggle for control of congress that's taking place as americans go to the polls now interestingly google has been publishing what are some trending searches taking place throughout the day related to the midterm votes one of them is who to vote for today apparently a number of americans are actually googling who it is that they should be voting for hoping that the search results will help them determine how they should cast
9:04 pm
their ballot we also see americans googling what do midterms do what the midterms mean so a lot of americans turning to the internet for insights about what decision to make now at this point we are seeing a record turnout. we're seeing numbers that are very unprecedented usually the midterm elections in the united states don't really garnish that much interest among the public there's a low turnout you've learnt that deeply concerned about it but this year we've seen a huge wave of media fanfare just people excitedly glued to their t.v. screens a lot of talk about the midterm vote a lot of interest a lot of money being put into campaign advertisements so i recently did a report on the ground on capitol hill about why that is why is it that there's been such a fanfare in the lead up to the midterm vote let's take a listen to what i reported. usually the midterm elections in the united states are about as exciting as watching the grass grow low public interest in
9:05 pm
a low voter turnout and the ads have a very amateurish quality to them. agenda a message and. then mr trump said you're right. that part. so why is the biennial snooze fest suddenly turned into a political extravaganza well it's apparently about one man i'm not on the ticket but i am on the ticket because this is also a referendum about me so let's go over what's at stake. the big one is impeachment if the pollsters are to be believed the democrats could regain control of the u.s. house of representatives with a majority they could then gain the ability to bring formal charges against the president impeachment has been on the minds of some democrats that he is impeachable the democrats want to retake control of the house so they could move to
9:06 pm
impeach the president telling me it impeachment you think that trump should be impeached i would vote yes you would have to take a vote i would vote. now the democrats could get the ball rolling with the u.s. house but whether or not they'd be successful is a different story let's remember no president in all of us history has ever been removed through the impeachment process richard nixon came close but he actually resigned before the senate could put him on trial but impeachment fears aside a blue wave could put the brakes on the presidency. so trumps policies that's what's really at stake here if the democrats regain control of the house they could block and delay the donald's plans he can kiss that big beautiful powerful wall goodbye plus if the house goes democrat but the senate remains republican we're going to have some good old fashioned washington
9:07 pm
gridlock two words for you government shutdown. in the case of a democratic surge we can expect an onslaught of investigations into the trumpet ministration with the house majority the democrats could subpoena witnesses and get their hands on key documents this means that all things from business transactions to furniture purchases and sexual assault allegations all of that could come under scrutiny so we are going to have oversight committee hearings on their presence use of the cell phones the democrats take over that he's going to be subpoenaed to investigated we want to see the truth now results are hard to predict but one pattern from the post twenty sixteen world seems to be playing out pretty well at the polls americans get to choose between chaos and more chaos cable mup and r.t. washington d.c. with the country massively divided over the trump administration's policies and the

democrats desperate to wrest back control from the republicans the midterms have been billed as a historic contest campaigning fifth. you cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for. it is. gone whacko and angry left wing mob and that's what the democrats are. two words i'm going to find one of the two thousand and fifteen election one which kavanagh and the other is caravan supreme court nominee brett kavanaugh brett kavanaugh witches that are placing a hat on brett kavanaugh caravan invasion or about the caribbean chair of.

a series of suspicious packages sent across the country mail by mail bombs fire alarm here will keep you posted on that. believe me over. the last. as of the midterm elections the trumpet ministration faced a barrage of criticism from hollywood celebrities many of whom were also trying to encourage people to get house and billy eichner for instance described it as a matter of life and death jessica alba encouraged to follow us on instagram to
9:10 pm
very much for a world that they would want their children to grow up in jim carey meanwhile posted a scathing rejection of trump's alwyn's of divisive politics called on people to vote democrats. well when joined now by us to nip a tear in potty twenty twenty presidential hopeful of in florida often see a very welcome to us hey now what made these mid ten makes a mention of the tchotchke how crucial of a. the midterms are the second most important elections in america the most important being of course a presidential year elections during the midterms we're going to determine who wins the house who wins the senate what a lot of libertarians including myself are hoping for in addition of course to having some libertarian candidates break some records which we're expecting to see this year is we're hoping for a gridlock we want the government to be able to do as little as possible so if the
9:11 pm
president of one party in congress of a different party or the congress of the house and the senate are split the best thing that can happen is that the government can't do more damage what we're ideally hoping for above all else is a government shutdown that lasts hopefully the next two years now we've also seen a lot of encouragement set people to say that's a good thing right shoni. i think it's good for people to vote as long as they're not voting to you to steal money from their neighbors if you're voting for higher taxes than what you're doing is basically stealing if you're voting for free health care what you're doing is you're basically stealing voting to steal is morally wrong so i certainly hope that people vote against more taxes against more government that but i don't encourage people to vote for more government theft or more government taxes in the same way i think it's great to vote against foreign
9:12 pm
wars i think it's a vote again it's great to vote to bring the troops home but if you're voting for more war or more drug war you're doing something immoral and that kind of voting is absolutely wrong in my opinion let's talk about you'll run to the senate to swell you happy with the support they've received. it's been the most exciting run that i've ever had by far it's it's been electrifying these the town halls the forums have been so high energy the number of contacts the contact requests we've gotten have been many times what we've seen before and i do think it's a reflection of that that people are filing taking an actor active and emotional interest in politics politics shouldn't be a choice between two identical as it should be between yes to government schools or no to government schools yes to an income tax or no to an income tax yes to war or no to war there should be big differences between candidates this time around i was able to show a big difference between myself and other candidates in two thousand and twenty i
9:13 pm
have to show an even bigger difference between myself and other candidates for example as i take on my promise to become a partner in chief and pardon everyone for a victimless crimes let's talk about the republicans now people say that they use quite divisive rhetoric and focused on immigration for instance do you think that that's cost than they. i think it's cost them votes among people who support open borders people like me who support no welfare and open borders and that means we oppose government schools we oppose medicare we oppose medicaid we oppose food stamps people like me we want to receive these as two things that go together we want there to be no welfare and open borders so when we hear someone like trump saying we need to keep immigrants out to us that looks like a bad idea it's morally bad and it's also economically bad when you go out of your way to keep out skilled workers or hardworking unskilled workers you're literally depriving the economy of its most valuable resource it would be like trying to keep
9:14 pm
out computers or trying to keep out or will it's insane so those of us that have a more economic focus were turned off by that kind of rhetoric then again there are many people who really want america to go back to the way it looks like in the seven hundred. i'm not one of those people but people like that could very well be turned on by trump's rhetoric so i think it attracted some people and turned other people off well we appreciate your comments here we're now t. of in for a us libertarian party twenty twenty presidential hopeful thank you. for having me on. meanwhile the trump administration is raising the alarm of a foreign interference in the midterms it's accusing china russia and iran of meddling in the voting through social media. critical elections coming up in november and control of congress at stake twenty eight fifteen this year's midterm election this year's midterm elections as the twenty eight to ten election season begins to heat up there are new concerns about the security of america's election
9:15 pm
system i mean how secure are we there's been some finger pointing at both of iran and china and russia. now to a developing story we have a breaking news to tell you about it got us here in russia so i guess the simple question is is russia still targeting the united states no question the russians will meddle in this year's midterm elections russia is at it again at it again russia is up to its old tricks. i mean merican speaking to be either willfully or blissfully ignorant of what's going on. why won't the president say that they are doing this why is he such a russian he hasn't even tweeted a single piece on russia's goal is real simple on mass to the road trust to create division of social and political content carry out cyber attacks two of them are the other nefarious things. in the middle of information and meme warfare is james bond evil villain level plotting the russians they know everything that irritates
9:16 pm
this country when congress in the general public disagrees simply along party lines and the russians are winning they seem to know everything that hurts they're going after all this stuff women fighting around this country have been heating up more so they're really not articulating a single viewpoint they have weaponized freedom of speech in the public loses trust in the press the russians are winning and the only thing stopping them is news media broadcasts like this be careful what you read they're still trying to get in our heads in this country resilience need to stand up and say we're not going to allow some russian to tell us out of the. sunday cliche. it's. he. iran's foreign minister has released a video lashing out at renewed u.s.

sanctions mohamed seven sorry fahad he's focused on minimizing their effects on his people. us administration appears to be that imposing draconian sanctions on iran will bring about such pain to our nation that it will force us to submit to its bid no matter how absurd. or fundamentally flawed its demands are and today we and our partners across the globe will ensure that our people are the least affected by this indiscriminate assault in the economic warfare that directly targets the iranian people notwithstanding hypocritical claims by the trumpet ministration to the contrary. el iran chased a spain joint russia in condemning u.s. demands that countries follow its renewed sentients on iran speaking at a joint news conference in madrid moscow's foreign minister sergey lavrov said the
9:18 pm
u.s. actions on tehran are absolutely illegitimate and disappointing as in that washington's ultimatums a quote an acceptable his spanish counterparts chess have far al echoed those concepts the economy continues to grow there actually i agree with minister love the fin his rejection of any kind of approach that sounds like an ultimatum including from the u.s. the e.u. and spain in particular have been very critical of the usa as unilateral decision to denounce the nuclear agreement with the room and most which affects us badly from the point of view of the economy and security and the european union insisted on doing everything possible to keep this agreement alive and for the sake of our companies so that they can continue working investing and trading with iran the information that we have is that iran is complying with its commitments in this agreement and the u.s. does not have any arguments no reason to reject it or step with it meanwhile france germany and the u.k. have issued

a joint statement to find trump's threats tira pain companies doing business with the islamic republic they say the way. to maintain financial channels with iran moscow insists tehran has been in full compliance with the terms of the nuclear deal donald trump's describes the new restrictions as the strongest american sanctions against iran they affect more than seven hundred individuals they also aggressively target the financial and the g. and shipping sectors but the newest former deputy speaker of the belgian parliament says the move may have dangerous consequences. up until now foreign policy of the united. sorry was mainly you know reflexive of whatever the united states has said not because they're just full of lugar they're mostly agreed with it also and now there's a fundamental disagreement governments and public opinion is not always exactly the same i mean the government here in belgium and holland and so are very slow in
9:20 pm
decent matters but basically when they are so slow in not standing by the u.s. that they'll do a lot of things already given also the historical context so where this will go you never know and i hope that it will work out somehow because this is indeed a friday dangerous situation but it is more than that this has to do i mean you should not forget why is the u.s. so aggressive against iran has nothing to do with their with the character of that regime because we have to regimes that are allies in that area will follow us i mean saudi arabia to name just one it has to do with the feeling that they have that they're losing control over the middle east and then that this one country that doesn't abide by. their rules that is to speak and i do believe that my fear is also that for the moment you know in the past by
9:21 pm
a lot even george bush jr you knew that somehow there were advisors in the background who said ok let's let stone now miss a bit and then but this president doesn't even even have reasonable advise us by his side. when tensions running high between the u.s. and iran want to rein in our test has a pendant exhibition in titles donald salon it's a pacing eighty five costumes that pick fun at washington's foreign policy and has ties to saudi arabia. the first exhibit expresses reality as it is the politicians express reality in the way that they want to be seen in the feet and very classic.

paris paramedics are blocking the city's ring roads and of a key race for a second day with so-called snail protests sirens blazing ambulances parked across roads and reportedly causing hundreds of kilometers of traffic jams in demonstrations over changes in conditions that paramedics say will put them out of work. this. through syria. the protests are just the latest to hit france in recent weeks they come as right
9:23 pm
wing party leader marine le pen if it takes a month for the first time in the polls ahead of parliamentary elections next year r.t. is down quarter takes a closer look. france has broken out into protest as of late on nov fifth five hundred paramedics as well as two thousand supporters took to the streets to protest a government reform that would end state funding towards medical transportation and on the same day macron found himself trying to diffuse growing about the rising taxes on fuel prices in france already angry citizens are prepared to block roads on nov seventeenth in response to this with authorities preparing for the worst and recently there were even several severe building collapses in a poor neighborhood of mar say with leftist politician john saying that it was due to an indifference to poverty in france and the latest polls are actually seriously
9:24 pm
reflecting this says for the first time ever marine le pen and her euro skeptic party are polling at twenty one percent that's higher than macron and his party's nineteen percent and amidst all this macron is beginning to promise things on an e.u. scale for example a new european army separate from nato and dependency on the united states we can't protect europeans without a real european army faced with a rush to run a buddhas that's shown itself capable of being a threat i want to create a proper security built against russia which is a country i respect which is itself european we need a europe that can defend itself alone without depending only on the united states in a way that exhibits greatest sovereignty so as macron continues to focus on issues like a european wide army and these problems internally in france become larger issues for him it just starts to seem more and more like he'd rather become president of the european union than continue as president of france.

fail said one of england's top football clubs has received threats on social media after refusing to wear the traditional remembrance pop a. head of armistice day which marks the end of world war one in saturday's match for manchester united in a monument to did not wear the flower which is also seen as a tribute to modern day british service members as he later explained his decision . i recognize truly why people were poppy's i totally respect everyone's right to do so and i have told all sympathy for anyone who has lost loved ones duty conflict however for me it is only a reminder of the bombing of serbia in one thousand nine hundred nine on reflection i now don't feel it is right for me to wear the poppy on my shirt matej achieving reportedly said the issue was so fundamental to him that he would leave the club england if forced to wear the tributes and. picks up the story. it's not every day
9:26 pm
you see a professional footballer take a hard political stance but that's exactly what manchester united. did regarding wearing the poppy well you would think that this would pacify all the tension because it was heavily criticized for not wearing the poppy but yes some people took to social media to deliver a lot of abuse towards the serbian player now some were suggesting that he should be injured others were saying that he should leave the country and play elsewhere but in serbia his decision received some price appreciate it as. politics shouldn't be involved in the sports and people should not talk to him about a decision i appreciate also decision to explain offense why he made the decision on the game and in general. i would do the same i think he did the right thing and then when your mouth it's no i think is the. very very beginning no football
9:27 pm
player. like a man you know because this is the good good good think he's doing now but even in the england itself explanation left very mixed response some people actually defended him and said they respected his choice after all he was not even an english player but say that to stoke city's james maclean from republic of ireland who also refused to wear a poppy and got so much abuse coming towards him that it just you know the social media literally exploded with vile things said about the republic of ireland international play and he even had somewhat of a confrontation with the fans at one of the recent stock city's games so all this basically raises a big question what is wearing a poppy in england a symbol of remembrance or something that you can use as a stick to hit a player if he refuses to wear it based on his nationality if you are doing it.

then i think. that really sometimes you should swallow your own personal. opinions own thing about that is only induced to deal with it because everybody's dilute is dealing with. is who covering the war us become but for me is that what i did if you live some works in britain yes you should all on the national dish and puppy days especially but yes it should. but also from s. hair in moscow finale and half an hour's time will be crossing if it's our team america for live coverage of those crucial midterm elections and bringing you all the results as they roll and. what politicians to do something to. put themselves on the line they get accepted or rejected. so when you want to be president. or somehow want to.
