a tremendous success verdict on the midterm elections the republicans hold on to the senate democrats retake the house of representatives saying that that is a huge blow to the present. knowledge of than usual voter turnout schools. with polling stations opening late voting machines breaking down. the news and jewish organization in germany has called on the government to put on special integration classes for new iraq muslim groups amid a spike in anti-semitic incidents. a lot of.

both male and female terrorists have been wearing them to avoid detection. they have been actually. aware that actually men need to be women for security place veiled. as a small piece of material i threaten national security. good evening welcome this is r.t. international. a new political landscape is shaping up in the united states following the midterm elections democrats regain control of the house of representatives but the republicans extended their majority in the senate president trump says the both sides will try to work together despite the divide. and last night the republican party defied history to expand to our senate majority. well
3:02 pm
significantly beating expectations in the house for the. and midterm year hopefully we can all work together next year to continue delivering for the american people it seems we're facing a divided government in the legislative branch at this point the houses of congress we've got the house of representatives and the u.s. senate are controlled by different parties the democrats gain control of the house of representatives while the senate remains solidly republican with the republicans actually increasing their leadership and their role in the senate gaining a few seats it's not exactly clear how many they gained but they did clearly make some gains last night in their control of the senate now both sides seem to be congratulating themselves seeing this as a victory the democrats are rejoicing that they seem to have taken control of the house of representatives the republicans including president trump are celebrating
3:03 pm
the fact that they've solidified their control of the senate let's take a look at some of the aftermath of last night's vote to family story in the constitution's checks and balances to the champion. of america spoke. and took back the house of representatives. so tonight is a night to celebrate how far our movement has come. is really for the. law others have announced the senate going into republican control that's a huge moment a huge victory for the president to fill testament to the fact that many voters want their state wide officials to be people who will continue to have this economic boom going are voting in favor of freedom and free markets with control of the house of representatives the democrats will be much more able to block trump's agenda furthermore on the democrats will have the ability to launch more
3:04 pm
investigations into donald trump the question of impeachment remains open as the democrats do have the possibility of bringing impeachment charges against donald. however an impeachment trial would require the senate which is solidly republican to vote out the president however at this point we've heard from donald trump he spoke about how the numbers showed a big success for the republican party there was a big turnout of supporters and donald trump spoke about you know the gains made in the senate compared himself to previous administrations and the successes that were possibly made and furthermore donald trump when he spoke he talked about how he was willing to work with democrats he said that he'd be willing to cooperate with the democratic party when it came to issues such as the drug prices and other issues he urged bipartisan cooperation it's also important to note that during the press conference trump was asked about whether or not russia and china had quote meddled
3:05 pm
in the election now trump did not give a direct answer to the question and said simply that he's been working with the f.b.i. and the justice department did not give a direct answer about whether or not he was going to accuse russia or china or any other country of meddling in the election results didn't warn the democrats that if they investigated him he would launch investigations into them for alleged leaks also clashed with the media quite a bit during his press conference so the country is reacting to quite a dramatic vote was quite a big midterm election that just happened here in the united states and the results are mixed in the meantime over seventeen thousand phone calls about voting problems with documented but the follow from being the only incidence of these elections that will be remembered.
3:07 pm
ok let's bring in joe lauria he's an independent journalist and author and former wall street journal correspondent great to have you on with this show we've been talking this evening about the many foreign owned firms who donated millions to the midterm elections i mean technically legal although it seems a lot of people frown upon it what exactly are these companies planning to get in return. i'm sorry you said foreign companies are giving money to to the political parties in the us in the midterms you know i've got
3:08 pm
a thing about six pages here of different companies of. money but i think as one of our guests ron paul said it's legally via the employees u.s. employees of the companies based in the u.s. which gets the money to as he explained it it's kind of a loophole but ultimately the accusation is that you've got foreign companies funding candidates they just wanted you know why would companies do that from abroad well what are they looking to get of it. well that would depend on what the companies are in which countries yes it's a little you go through for foreign foreigners to give money to u.s. political parties there was an instance during the sixteen campaign that was revealed in the d.n.c. or able to protest the e-mails that we could leaks released which showed that there were foreign foreigners living inside the us working for american companies that were donating and they weren't sure whether they should take or not looks like in the end they did so that's kind of the reverse it was an american company would
3:09 pm
a foreign national here i can answer the question unless i knew what companies they were really if they had an interest side or the other that they think that the proposed legislation of one of the other parties would help whatever their business is within the u.s. i think that would be the motive and that's why american companies give money to both parties because they want the kind of legislation that they sometimes themselves write that will reduce regulations or open a market somewhere who helps their business that's what they're after it is helping their business i suppose that would be the same for foreign companies foreign interference in the face of it often after the presidential elections we had it immediately before these midterms former f.b.i. agents that we have spoken to his claim that americans not russians a perhaps the people who should be most concerned about when it comes to stoking election fears that's just what was. everyone's weakness the playbook playing now they don't need russia so much they've learned the tax he's devastatingly effective
3:10 pm
. ok that was an article from clint what's actually that we just voiced up is it a fair comment no i mean is that is the concern that should be taken from the actions of americans as much as anyone else. oh yes first of all it was always been a ruse that russia or anyone else was. undermining the democratic institutions of the united states as democratic as they are and that it's an age old going back centuries if not millennia of the rulers who are facing domestic unrest will blame foreign power for this so that's what i think we were seeing with russia in terms of interference by americans i mean we've had these super pacs that have been existing created in that have given a boost when the citizens united decision came down a couple of years ago by the supreme court which allowed companies for the first time since the early twentieth century to poor money into the coffers of a political candidate through these pacs so in that way huge big money interests in the united states have a huge huge influence on the political process in
3:11 pm
a even choosing who the candidates are going to be who will be both parties of both major parties which is all that counts here in the u.s. who those candidates will be and then who they want to have elected doesn't mean that they always get what they want but the influence from big time money which is now legal was without is without doubt the biggest influence on the political process and that's hardly democratic if only the richest americans and have their interests represented and that's what we have a congress that represents for the most part their interests and not the average people and represents also the interests of war abroad both parties democrat and republican are supporting perpetual war and that wasn't even an issue in this midterm election by the way so yes americans are the ones who are rich americans rich powerful americans have skewered the democratic process by their money having such a profound impact on who runs and who wins. and let's stay with the theme of interfere
3:12 pm
. sin fluence and money much of which most influence media organizations how do you feel about the role that the u.s. media played in the buildup to the elections with a fair and balanced the accusation is a lot of media outlets a very partisan. you know if you go back on you could see on you tube news america news television broadcasts on the one nine hundred seventy s. i actually did journalism that is a long gone we are totally partisan that fox on the republican side m.s.m. b c openly about the democrats c.n.n. also leaning towards the democrats it's intertainment it's in into time and state we live in so the news has become entertainment it's all about the anchorman and his his star power and talking heads so there's no real journalism for the most part it's completely partisan and the partisanship that has been worse than i've ever seen here in washington is just last night just got an even worse if that were possible why because now the democrats have power they've got the house they're
3:13 pm
going to stop trump or never they can he may want to do deals with them i don't think they're going to want to do that they want to get him and they're going to go after every way they can very much when clinton bill clinton lost his midterm the republicans won after him and impeached him on a silly charge of lying under oath because about an affair you have with a woman we're going to look for the same thing the partisanship the rancor the bitterness the tribalism here is going to intensify in my opinion after this election last night maybe i'm old fashioned joe but do the politicians realize do they still remember that they were elected to the needs in the design of the people who put them in office can they actually agree with donald trump if you say comes up with a pretty decent idea will the democrats be able to work with them all nice can they see past what seems to be a lot of personal animosity towards the guy. well i believe so i think they remember that they have to say that but they don't remember do they have to do this they remember who's paid the checks who's put them in office who they're. hold on
3:14 pm
to there's been a problem in american politics since the very start of the country but as i said earlier because of the. supreme court decision has gotten me considerably worse now so they are not going to make deals i think who knows exactly but i would be very surprised if democrats want to make deals with the republicans because they don't have to now they can block every bit of his legislation of course republicans in the senate can also block democratic proposed legislation coming out of the house this is what i think we're going to see and who suffers the american people that neither party gives two hoots about frankly because then those of the they vote in this kind of sham election it's very depressing i like i voted here in virginia for the first time yesterday and it was very sad situation when you only had two parties on the ballot. there was no other tis no choice for the american people so those people from both parties who are in power going to answer to the interest that put them there they are not representing the american people they pretend that
3:15 pm
they are that's what they say that's the rhetoric to get elected but they are an elite and now we're going to see an interim leap battle between the house and the senate and they're going to go after trumpet cause they despise him individually more than the policies that he has put forward of course many of them are horrible and they disagree with him democrats are not much better on most of them particularly on warfare there they are right there in lockstep when it comes to american foreign military adventures there's no difference in the republicans and the democrats and that to me is what is perhaps the most important issue because military spending cuts into domestic programs and effects our lives here in the u.s. as well not just the people being killed by u.s. bombs so they're going to continue to agree on wars and they're and the republicans and democrats will block each other and we're going to see battles like we've not seen even worse than during the clinton term when after he lost his midterm in my opinion. joe it's been an absolute pleasure to have you all appreciate your time my guests journalist and author joe lauria i thank you very much now robert. swiss

bank the biggest japanese car maker in a british defense giant among foreign owned firms of speaking about a moment ago giving millions of dollars to the republicans and the democrats for those midterm elections that despite foreign donations inbound already struggling figure explains how this was allowed. it's no surprise that meddling was on the mind once again in the run up to the midterms we are receiving information through a variety of public and private sources that indicate that. we should be seriously concerned about people trying to influence the elections in two thousand and eighteen and spending serious money to do it serious money and perhaps those concerns aren't completely unfounded because while the vast majority of the five billion spent on these elections was burned through by the parties themselves a nice chunk of change was generously spent by foreign companies a list put together by the center for responsive politics shows over a dozen countries jumping at the chance to put their money where their interests
3:17 pm
are the data shows most support was thrown behind republicans spending roughly four million dollars more on the right than the left the u.k. switzerland and germany were the biggest spenders on the list of over a dozen countries. and you may be surprised to hear that mexican based companies overwhelmingly gave to republicans and all the contributions weren't high every dollar is another metaphorical brick in the wall isn't it now you may be thinking but that's illegal right well yes and no while it is true that only american citizens can make political contributions there is a lovely little loophole that allows american divisions of foreign companies to form political action committees or pacs and collect money from american employees and this by the never ending meddling mania in the us over the past two years the federal election commission has rejected proposed changes to address foreign

influence in the us three times and we can thanks kate the fact that why would people want to give us money unless they think they're good and they kick back or getting something from it so it's a reflection of the type of government we have is a reflection that we have interests around the world. we're in a hundred and fifty hundred sixty countries we are maintaining an empire so everybody has an interest and we're out there overregulating trade where you know threatening sanctions and putting on tariffs and so a lot of people are buying influence so i think that is the problem to curtail the money you know we're sort of tackling this symptom yes we want to do that and the law says you're not supposed to but the loophole is that there's a complex system here through the pac system that you know that is a huge huge problem the law says that they can't do it and they should say that if it's coming from a from a foreign source just because it's given to

a pac to excavate it that shouldn't be allowed. germany's leading jewish organization is calling for special anti semitism classes for muslim migrants comes amid a spike in hate crimes against jews it's all about as the story. jewish community leaders in germany say they want to see integration classes for migrants that focus on the semitism saying that this could help stem a rise in anti-semitic incidents in the country many of these people have been shaped by regimes in which anti semitism is essential and the jewish state is denied the right to live to prevent the worst scenario we need to the integration causes to these people much more preferably by a country of origin the official statistics but a rise in crime in germany just over four hundred were reported in the first half of twenty eighteen knots up ten percent on the same period last year the vast

majority of these were committed by neo nazi and fall right groups but the leadership of germany's foremost jewish organization paints a bleak picture of the future saying he sees more problems coming from migrants one of the most shocking cases of twenty eight. it was caught on camera she shows him a dish she's just tell me do you. think showing a nineteen year old syrian molly going to be using two men from berlin for wearing a kippah going as far as to attack the men with his belt jewish leaders have cautioned against wearing the traditional skull cap so as not to draw attention in berlin we've seen reports of jewish children becoming the target of anti semitic bullying in school and this summer ten people were arrested after a brawl in a park which started after one group of people from syria snatched away a star of david necklace worn by a jewish man also from the same country over one million refugees and migrants

event in the country since twenty fifteen and as chancellor merkel points out some have contributed to the problem of noir we have a new phenomenon as we have many refuges among whom there are for example people of arab origin who bring in another form of anti-semitism into the country unfortunately and to simitis which existed before that i met with barely a rabbi yehuda title and i asked him how bad the situation is and if he agrees with extra integration classes for migrants focusing on anti semitism the problem with anti-semitism in germany today is unfortunately growing there is much worry about the developments in germany especially due to the fact that many refugees have come from countries which they were breastfed with hate towards israel and towards jewish people of course we welcome everybody but at the same time. being a refugee doesn't only have merit it also has obligations it's not something that

only affects the jewish people this affects all people that honor and respect democracy and want to live in a society which respects all people so we have to understand that this is a very serious proper gender issue also for the leaders of the german government and we strongly encourage them to take it in that manner this week sees the eightieth anniversary of kristallnacht or the night of the broken glass when jewish homes businesses and places of worship were set ablaze by nazis with the nascent support of out of hitler's government and while the situation in today's germany is thankfully a long way from that of the one nine hundred thirty s. that period of history continues to cast a long shadow peter all of our r.t. berlin. united states has called off the top level nuclear talks with north korea at the last moment secretary of state mike pompei i was due to meet young chief nuclear negotiator kim yong charl in new york who called off that meeting due to

quote shuttling issues the meeting was expected to pave the way for a second summit between donald trump and kim jong un after their talks in singapore in the summer agreed on a roadmap to nuclear disarmament an easing of sanctions gang has recently voiced concern over white house insistence on full denuclearization before the sanctions are lifted the u.s. thinks that its repeated sanctions and trisha leads to denuclearization we cannot help laughing at such a foolish idea. south korea insists a second summit is still on track but its northern neighbor is worried by seoul's resumption of military drills with washington. we're very proud of what took place today it worked out for both of us far better than anybody even predicted it's an honor to be with you.
3:24 pm
let's go live now to alison joe bruno senior analyst at the lombardi letters news site great to have you on our list sandro the reason explanation or excuse depending on your your standpoint from the state department is telling issues to why these talks have been canceled at the very last moment do you buy into that. no i don't personally believe in it and i do not think that there's a scheduling issue i think this is a deliberate. diplomatic or diplomatic strategy if you will to stall the talks which in my view were always some kind of a sideshow or i'm not sure how to describe it to present trump in a very diplomatic light and win support from his base before the

elections and now that these elections have passed we can look forward to another chapter and a reinforcement perhaps of the usual way that north negotiations with the north with north korea end up let's not forget bill clinton almost reached a deal in the mid ninety's but that completely collapsed and every president since then has had some kind of initiative which always collapses there's just too many the. there are too many military interests at play to give up such. a guaranteed source of tension which keeps moving the military industry. at. very engaged where do you think we stand now with the second trump summit how likely and how far away well the second trump summit is supposed to
3:26 pm
happen before the end of the year believe in december or even before that but with the delay in the meeting now which was supposed to discuss and prepare for this summit now i think this is also in question and also let's not forget. the troubled ministration has been very angry with south korea for making peace arrangements of their own with north korea i believe in a very credible article i read that i might point pale yelled at the south korean foreign minister on the phone wondering why she had been so or brashness not inform him of some of the. ongoing demilitarization efforts. and that just to me shows the who's come in control and
3:27 pm
who and who plans to benefit from this. as a side note as well i think united states main enemy in the next twenty five years is neither russia iran or north korea it's china which happens to share the same course like as north korea so i think. there are a lot of there is going to be a repository to. military reports are going to send a message to china as well. i was under great to have you on r.t. international my guest alexandra bruno senior analyst at lombardi letter thank you . for. being another story this hour because egypt may ban the burka in public at any time and under any circumstances that's according to a new draft law or makers say both male and female terrorists have been using the full body veil to avoid detection we are currently in an ongoing war against
3:28 pm
terrorism we should do our best to and did the veil or is used by many people as a cover for the crimes that they're committing it's not part of personal freedom as some say. seventy two states have already barred the covering in public it sparked a heated discussion the un human rights committee even ruled france's ban constituted a violation of human rights earlier my colleague andre farmer gazed opinion on the issue from historians other darwish and political and social commentator mo and so they have been actually instances in egypt and elsewhere where actually men but it didn't need to be women and so it's for security as class actually hypocritical and double standard to actually suggest that it's actually a i do but i don't think anybody saying that we. are a lot of actually finding secular freedoms i think it is a very slippery slope when you are starting to legislate what muslim women

anonymously member presumably i mean if a jewish woman wants to cut the head or somebody wants what is a fancy dress or these are part of a secular rights and freedoms. that drafted our proposed law it's not actually banned as in france so if you are going to a security zone. a government institution. or a military base or airport security or any of these places you are required to remove their bid seven european countries have banned the burka safe in public places do you feel this is a growing except answer a growing push or a growing movement to do this and would you anticipate to see more countries follow suit i think we've seen a growing faction lies ation and a hard thing to polarize actually the base and i think what we will see is any creasing effort by the populous parties the far right movements in europe in europe i would turn to that said the paradox in england in europe in general and the west will resist. anything because without truly open society and freedom individual but

when you have a nanny state like egypt iran is that can be understated you need this kind of law to really protect women from slugs forcing them to would. this is about freedom is a short it's not libertarianism. it's not conservatism we need to open our minds and become a. photograph of a palestinian protester has gone viral for its similarities to a famous painting of the french revolution has now become a symbol of resistance.
