of the more pressing issues there earlier attended a working lunch in the l.s.a. palace plenty of interest to have been building over the prospect of a meeting between the russian and american presidents however it was earlier reported that the two leaders sat at opposite sides of the table during a lunch and hinted that talks would more likely take place at the next a g. twenty in argentina or teas and hawkins has more. there was also another aspect that the media's attention aside from the main event and that was endless speculation to lead us in particular the president of russia vladimir putin and the us president donald trump media speculation was rife for weeks on end how would that meeting take place would there be a meeting a tool which leader would show him who what signals would that send to the world and indeed to other leaders and how would the french maybe president of minor well take such a meeting taking place on french territory during this very special commemorative

event earlier spoke to the american high school to hughes to get some inside knowledge on the american side of things and how the whole thing was viewed from the other side of the atlantic this time they're actually being very tight lipped in fact this weekend that was something very uncharacteristic of a trumpet mystery of it is that we didn't have a lot of details we didn't have the behind the scenes being leaked out to the new york times the washington post which it makes me think that possibly the leaks might have been locked down or more importantly we're talking about such serious issues that even those who might have leaked to the past realized that if they're not in the best interest of either country or any of the parties involved and in terms of interest of course there was a lot of media speculation on both sides from from the american the russian side and in the end the believe the presidential aide you do said the reason why it didn't go ahead was pretty much out of respect for the french they didn't want this to happen. probably probably a good idea as we discussed i think it's a good idea but i think it's not only just out of respect for the french who are your host more out of respect for the reason why they were here to honor the
8:04 pm
veterans across the world international they gave their lives up for world war one in all the conflicts going on i think it actually had been very inappropriate for president clinton president to meet together and i think they actually showed very good respect for each other more probably the soldiers that were being honored this weekend by choosing not to take the ten attention away from them and the meeting itself was quite brief said yes. there was a meeting but was there really any more to it than you know. that we saw at the. pleasantries and greetings exchanged do we know any more was there any more juicy details coming out of that said there is a juicy details because for once both gentlemen did exactly i think what the world didn't expect them to do for so long both of them had been characterized as morning long and having all the attention on them and this time they actually about the tension to be right where it was and for that i think a lot of people unfortunately that seem to have a negative view of president who are disappointed they wanted to see some sort of
8:05 pm
chaos they wanted to be able to throw insults after them and say look at what they did but the truth is both men acted exactly as good representative of their country this weekend is going to be. joining us you know post held. some of the visits where they have been to. come in for criticism as well. just on the body language was different was that we mention the whole thumbs up thumbs down on how easy would be if things were. rolled and politicians open their mouth and get themselves into trouble well and usually that's what's caused most wars are actually politicians opening their mouths and talking talking to each other but there are some very serious issues that need to be discussed right now between the two countries and you do have vice president pins as president trump was taking off from paris he is actually taking off for asia for a long term tour to go to the several asian summits and economic summits over in that area that's very important right now so i think that's a good lead in to the g. twenty or issues like the i.m.f. or trade section sanctions north korea lots of issues will be discussed but they're
8:06 pm
going to do it at an appropriate time and i think that is what made this weekend actually very special for everybody involved. archie france managed to catch up with president putin in between remembrance day events then ask him about the pressure this channel has been facing in france. because. we have always heard from our western partners that one of the main principles of democracy is freedom of information creating lists and special counsel switch decide which media is bad and which is good this is unacceptable this has nothing to do with democracy but. just before this weekend's commemorations trump criticized micron over his proposal to create a european army president trump called his words insulting however at their meeting in paris they glossed over any differences and agreed on more european defense spending r t france asked what he meant with him for his view.
8:07 pm
alternative military forces are not a new idea president micron has simply revived it in europe as a large powerful economic unit and obviously it seeks independence and sovereignty in terms of defense and security i see it as a positive process in terms of strengthening the multipolar world. we asked historian peter koos nick why europe may feel it needs a unified military and what the implications would be for the balance of global power. i think the fact that every nation is modernizing our nuclear power is modernizing its nuclear arsenal now united states bennie up to one point seven trillion to modernize its nuclear arsenal russia china all doing the same so they defrauded question is in what context that means or defense spending or military spending if there is a european orbit like to see it be a completely defensive army i'd like to then see rebalancing between
8:08 pm
the united states and europe in terms of the role played by nato and the reason why the europeans think they need their own army because they find trump to be so untrustworthy trump has made very negative statements about nato but beyond that by tearing up our poll in the us at the iran nuclear deal that was a really sobering move on the u.s. targets for the europeans by trump's trade wars with europe europeans know the united states can't be trusted now that's part of why you see the. image of the u.s. declining so rapidly around the world but not everyone in paris is there to mark the anniversary of the arm assist crowds have also gathered in the city to protest against donald trump's policies artie's trow dubinsky has more. a lot of people law and credibly unhappy that president trump is here it's a commemoration of one hundred years since the end of the war in fact some of the
8:09 pm
biggest suggesting ten thousand people across the city have come out into protests just like this at this one they say a few hundred people have come out here to say that they don't want trump to be in paris some of the signs just behind we don't know if you can see it says trump equals carol which is in french and many of the people holding their signs and symbols out in fact some people actually dressing up as parity trump individuals to get the message across that they don't like president trump they don't like his policies i've been speaking to people taking part in this protest and they say this is a man who is making war with everyone and in fact it's not just people from france they've come out here to show their dislike of trump to show they dislike this is ministration we've also been speaking to some american and irish ex-pats she said it was just so important to be part of this protest today to show president from that he's not welcome this is why they said they were here where american citizens

living abroad and were part of the woman's march and for us it was important. to say that chomp is a disgrace to america and we think that time does not represent american people is a professional he's not somebody that i would look up to in any shape or form you know any shape or form i just think you know he's putting america joe you know america supposedly great again is so great again like you know trump concerns everyone is not just an american issue is a global issue and every decision that he takes over the country will follow and we have other countries like brazil we have other countries like even in the u.k. a bit this was his are being called peter being replicated so he's in france today he's not a french issue is a global issue and that's why we're here protesting he's not. welcome here is no welcome anywhere well those are just some of the views here in paris at this
8:11 pm
particular protest but as i mentioned this is one of many taking place across the city as he was making his way to that arms to ceremony just a few hours ago there was a protest a woman actually running in front of his motorcade with the words oh on her body a fake peace maker and that's what many people have said today this is a man in their belief who is making war with everyone and i saw one sign that sort of summed up the idea is here this protest is a bit of a take on america i make america great again which trump is very well known to saying and it was make america good again because that's what people think here is that at the moment the policies have been spewing out of the trump it is straight up policies that are making war not peace and they want america to be good again. far right groups flooded central warsaw on sunday as poland celebrates one hundred years since its reestablishment as an independent state the annual march was more
8:12 pm
controversial than usual though as it was announced the polish president and government officials would join and before independence poland was partitioned between austria-hungary germany and russia polish flags and banners could be seen stretched down streets and across the squares it has also been reported that a number of neo nazi symbols were spotted there was a large police presence watching over the march. that took place at the same time as a state military parade and it was called the entire event a success. poland one on november eleventh there will be a great communal march to celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of independence. the government's decision to march alongside the far right nationalists has been largely criticized along a professor from the hebrew university in jerusalem told us that the migrant issue is leading to a rise of nationalist sentiment in europe the polish government decided to

actually embrace the. tendencies and. ideologies of the past because. the fear from the immigration creates a bias a political bias and a political agenda that brings into a defensive approach towards the entire matter of immigrants threats from the past are becoming the true reality of the present and rising again but we must pay attention to the fact that today we have more reasons not only anti semitism but also what is going on with the european approach to the to the border questions and to the immigration question is arch international more news after a short break. join

8:15 pm
our welcome back you're watching r t international live from moscow back with us as we recap the week's top stories so check this out a u.s. federal judge in illinois has ordered prison officials to reconsider a transgender woman's request to be moved to a women's prison and it comes after the inmate took legal action against the state's department of corrections reportedly claiming she has been treated like a sex slave in men's facilities twenty six year old dion strawberry hampton is currently serving a ten year sentence for burglary she says she's facing sexual abuse in all four of the men's facilities she has been held in hampton and has had her previous requests for transit for denied but argues that she would be safer in
8:16 pm
a woman's prison her lawyer has praised the judge's ruling. this is an important step not only for stool but in general for transgender women imprisoned across the nation the department of corrections which is responsible for the supervision of inmates it says it makes every possible effort to safeguard vulnerable prisoners. the illinois department of corrections maintains a strict zero tolerance policy towards all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment the department carefully considers housing assignments and the unique needs of offenders who identify as transgender. i discuss this further we're now joined by political commentator steve malzberg and rights activist anthony rogers right for reaction to this a gentleman this is always a minefield when we talk about this on t.v. especially three gentlemen discussing
8:17 pm
a transgender woman's rights here but. getting right into it let's start with steve . it's been found that transgender inmates are around ten times more likely to be sexually assaulted by fellow prisoners for whatever reason they are considered to be particularly vulnerable prisoners this can lead to self harm and suicide what should be done to protect these vulnerable inmates. well everything should be done to protect them i mean every inmate should be protected equally and the fact if in fact this this inmate is not being protected then. other steps have to be taken let me point out we're talking about about twenty transgender inmates in the entire prison system of illinois that's what we're talking about here now the trumpet ministration recently loosened and change regulations that came down under the obama administration they say that if you're if you're judged on what you are based
8:18 pm
on your biological sex ok so this person that we're talking about in chicago in no way would be judged a male under the trumpet ministration and the reason it was changed is because female prisoners in texas had a similar situation and they sued they didn't want a transgender male who said he was a woman coming to their prison they said it was an invasion of their property they didn't want to share our with the person they didn't want to sleep with the person they didn't want to be involved with the person so it was the prisoners themselves that forced the change that led to the change from the trump administration so i just think that you keep everybody safe but you don't start making accommodations special accommodations so anthony surely prison is about denying someone their freedom i mean that's a given but this comes to someone's very identity shouldn't trans people be held in facilities according to their gender and not to their sex birth i mean i know that
8:19 pm
this is a device's of issue in the country right now but what are your thoughts. yes and thank you so much for pointing out that it is three men who are talking about the safety and protection for transgender women we do know for of that for instance that transgender black women especially have a life expectancy of thirty three to thirty five years now the reason why they should be treated as pertains to the gender they identify with is because we also know that this is a medical condition and i say that very cautiously because it's not like something that needs to be cured but gender dysphoria is accepted by the american medical association in american psychological association as distress from gender assignment at birth so this isn't just something that people are doing for fun this is a recognized medical condition based on science based on research and based on study now while freedoms are neglected for prisoners their safety is not neglected we do have standards that have to be followed these people are still humans at the end of
8:20 pm
the day and they did they do have an alien a bill of rights including life liberty and the pursuit of happiness they do enjoy the fourteenth amendment even though they are imprisoned so it's very very important that we train these prison facilities better just like the entire society needs to be trained and more informed about the very specific issues that are affecting transgender people nationwide three looking about personality people twenty people how much money do you want to spend how many special provisions you want to make in a system that probably doesn't have enough money in the first place for twenty people you need to keep everybody say if but you can start making special provision to anybody who says that they'd feel like they're on their own women when they were met born a man could be classified as trans gender whether they mean it or don't mean it is really not a whole lot of ways to tell now again i say that you should ask the women who are going to have this person transferred to their prison like the ones in texas who
8:21 pm
filed suit because they didn't want a man there i mean you have to consider the masses as opposed to the twenty people involved. well that's a very very dangerous. mode of speaking i happen to be from what is referred to as a minority class and just because white people are in the majority does not mean that as an african-american or a light next person that we should be subjected to white supremacy secondly it's hard for he said i haven't seen a lot of them are these talking about what on earth are you talking about white supremacy if i could if i could just finish it's hard for me to have sympathy for the prison system not having enough money when they were able to donate hundreds of millions of dollars to the donald trump campaign it's other republican candidates who want to keep the prison industrial complex and so this is not about the not having money that we have that i was having those well we have to train their people all right what about the female athletes what will happen all over the place what about the concept that. hold on one second in if you jump across the pond.
8:22 pm
in the u.k. some inmates have claimed that transgender prisoners receive preferential treatment they claim that they dictate how they are searched by prison officers they have greater freedom in how they dress and can shower in private is this fair open that up to both of you well look that you know he has i mean i was also trying. all the time prisoners regular prison men and men and male prisoners all raped or attacked or peking it's terrible so anyone that wants to transfer out they're going to get the same treatment as this transgender you know they're not i mean prison is a talk place it's awful everyone should be safe but that doesn't mean that spec actual privileges should be granted to people who claim that they're transgender it's just not fair. and i think kept safe in being kept alive from disproportionate
8:23 pm
instances of violence is not a a function of preferential treatment as a function of safety we also have special provisions for younger inmates we have special provisions for inmates who are proven to be suffering from mental health illness it's not a preferential treatment it's about keeping these people alive and that is actually in the best interest of these prison systems who are using these people for cheap or free labor anyway we want these people to be saved they have a right to be safe if we're really really concerned about prison being such a rough place then we have to expand our thinking and reduce the instances of people being arrested and incarcerated in the first place let's get them the high that then i'd left those early on if they had to act i book it takes a radical leftist to talk the way he's talking about the whole issue and now he's exposed himself let's arrest less people that's great tell it to the people in chicago who every weekend forty five fifty people are shot let's arrest less people good idea. bernie made off and harvey weinstein will receive preferential treatment
8:24 pm
compared to african-american and latin x. people who have been arrested for simple drug possession so this idea that there isn't preferential treatment in prison is absolutely insane if you are wealthy you get to go to basically. spas and resorts compared to people who have been arrested for theft who have been arrested for a perk for drug possession so let's not get into this idea of treating strange gender people differently because they don't have the wealth of a harvey weinstein or bernie made off or the host of people who are probably go to jail who are affiliated with the trump administration gentleman if you go back to the north carolina bathroom debate a couple years back. there are some that said that. who believe the transit women might pose a risk to other female prisoners or that you can have all sorts of special sexual assault what's what are your thoughts on this issue. i mean i think that the
8:25 pm
easiest way to do it is a set have uni sex bathrooms that has been working on college campuses across the country this idea that transgender people are subjecting themselves to a culture of slaughter so that they can pose a threat especially to young people in the form of molestation is absolutely ridiculous what right it is and it's just another another time many of these of you're going to kill how many of these people in prison have been killed how many of the twenty have been slaughtered what are you talking about a cultural small order licit the population. the overwhelming majority of people in this country don't want their little child in a bathroom and having a man and by the way it could be in north carolina anybody legitimate or not could say i'm a woman and walk into that bathroom after that little little girl i'm not saying they're going to attack a maybe they will maybe they won't but they could do that and people don't want that you can't satisfy that the tiny tiny minority and go crazy and throw common
8:26 pm
sense out the window and decency out the window to protect what you consider to be something some endangered minority and it's not the truth anyway so the question is well then i wish just really quickly just really quickly i risk that the right wing when they say that they were really concerned about how safety were as adamant about taking away rights from transgender people as they were about gun safety and looking into the instances of white terrorism in this country white the message terrorism as it pertains to gun violence so you can't pick and choose when you're talking about it all right looking about safety let's gets ok so we're getting off track on this but that's a question for both of you guys to prison officers themselves need more training to make sure that they're aware of the challenges that face transgender prisoners should there be separate facilities altogether for trans prisoners. i don't think that that would be helpful at all we're not looking to isolate people into their
8:27 pm
own special prisons i do think would be extremely appropriate for prison guards just like schoolteachers just like employers to receive additional training on the issues of transgender experiences just like we take sexual harassment training just like we should be taking the oppression training as it pertains to limiting the instances of white supremacy it is very very important that we keep all prisoners sait as my good friend is saying on the other side and certainly yes we should train these prisoners more their job is to keep people safe and to keep the prison system functioning and that is a function of safety one hundred percent steve yeah but i don't see the need for anything special a prisoner is a prisoner a man is a man or woman is a woman. you treat a prisoner like a prisoner and everybody should be protected that's not always the case it's unfortunate but that doesn't mean that a certain class gets special privileges or special protection because they claim special status gentlemen i'm going to have to leave it there because we could
8:28 pm
debate this for hours upon hours and actually i would like that opportunity with the two of you because i mean it is an important topic unfortunately we just don't have the time this is live television thanks for being with us rights activists anthony rogers right and political commentator steve malzberg thanks for being with us on r.t. . all right you are watching out international will be back when about thirty minutes with more the weekly stay with us. you know world a big part of the new laws and conspiracy it's time to wake up to dig deeper to hit the stories that mainstream media refuses to tell more than ever we need to be smarter we need to stop slamming the door. and shouting past each other it's time for critical thinking it's time to fight for the middle for the truth the
