if you get to shape out these days become educated and engagement equals betrayal. when so many find themselves worlds apart we choose to look for common ground. it is revealed that three ukrainian ships which russia says illegally entered its territorial waters had weapons and ammunition on board however the international community has been quick to back kiev and not moscow in the stand. by european pledges to support companies that define u.s. sanctions on iran the french oil giant pulls out of the largest gas project in the country. and a u.s.

federal judge delays a decision on revealing possible charges against wiki leaks founder julian assange was holed up at the ecuadorian embassy in london. for broadcast live direct forest it is moscow this is r t international incheon thomas certainly glad to have you with us right now russia has released a video testimony of three ukrainian navy personnel who were detained following sunday's clash in the carriage straight incident brought russia and ukraine close to conflict the commander of one of the ukrainian ships claims he consciously ignored russia's orders to stop. so what i'm what the melissa boy commander of the navy division of the grain and military forces were answered the code straight after crossing the russian border we had visual contact with the russian border service vessels i consciously ignored their commands to stop on our boat we had

small arms and a machine gun with ammunition i was aware that the action of the ukrainian vessels in the coast straits provoke it if i was following my orders to move our ships from the ports or for this to mario. the standoff took place in the carriage strait which lies between the russian mainland and the crimean peninsula ukraine says its ships were intercepted after they left russia's territorial waters right now here's more from r.t. what our guys you have who has been following a court hearing for some of the detained crew and paula boyko from london who has more on the international reaction. well twelve of the detained ukrainian sailors and officers have been charged with illegally crossing the russian border they've been arrested now until the twenty fifth of january the rest will be charged presumably with the same accusation charge as the others at the late to date but the federal security services again released more details as to what was in these

ships and that all of this the federal security service has now released for example documents that they found aboard the three vessels that were that are impounded now here in kutch was in tile arsenal we're talking about with the magic grenade launchers for them i believe six machine guns other weapons as well pistols we're talking about thousands and thousands of rounds of ammunition of the incident itself to place party in the territorial waters of the russian federation the strait of kutch in the territorial waters that were part of the russian federation before they were union with crimea in two thousand and fourteen. contrary to the un convention on russian border ships carried out a frankly aggressive action against the vessels of the navy of the armed forces of ukraine.
6:04 pm
the. russian federal security service. reported that abroad this ukrainian naval throughout the fla till. two agents count to espionage agents of the ukrainian intelligence agency. s.b.u. two of them something that ukraine has since confirmed the russians believe that the order to do so came from the very top from ukraine's government to justify the ensuing martial law that we've seen stablished across many regions of ukraine the ukrainians however is adamant they're saying that this was an act of war provocation by russia that russia behaved aggressively towards the ukraine that
6:05 pm
they shouldn't have done this that they had filed a notification of intent to pass through the streets of curch but that the russians had carried out this aggressive action let's go to london now expects a political correspondent in the u.k. where parliament's been discussing the developments today what's been said polly. well it wasn't in the plan but politicians demanded an urgent debate on the situation in the sea or was over and they got it except i would say that it wasn't much of a debate because the condemnation of russia's actions was pretty much unanimous president putin's actions have redrawn barstools the borders of the nation for the first time since the can will rule we must never forget or normalize the united kingdom will certainly continue to be committed to the crane's independence sovereignty and territorial integrity of the peaches approach is very similar to the idea of heating

a frog in water that he keeps on pushing things and keeps on pushing that he will not be what would you say needs to reaction there was talk of russia being a pariah state ignoring the international rule based system also talking about showing russia the consequences of its actions and debates on how to show ukraine practical support there were a few questions about making sure that president poroshenko of ukraine doesn't abuse this martial law that he's going to be putting in place making sure that he sticks to the elections that are scheduled for early next year perhaps the brightest note struck from that debate was from the foreign minister saying that the u.k. really wants to have a good relationship with russia if only moscow would behave better now a similar attitude coming from across the poland the u.s. state department announced today that it condemns russia's aggressive actions as well canada issued a similar statement saying siding with ukraine calling for russia to release the

captured vessels and we heard from the russian foreign minister as well today he was actually in paris meeting with his french counterpart to join even a drea and according to the russian foreign minister sergey lavrov this was all a provocation but not from the russian side from the. craney insight take a listen you're using your i don't see any need to mediate is if the ukrainian side and his partners in europe are interested in not having such incidents those ukrainian allies should send kiev strong signals so that such provocations never happen again on a practical level local border authorities on both sides could have discussed any ten accounted cease if the ukrainian so i didn't understand something although they use the existing procedures back in september. well sir as is the case with the recent history you've got the international community saying one thing and russia is standing firm and saying that's not how we say it journalist martin summers
6:08 pm
believes the russian coast guard faced an impossible situation when confronted by a of ukrainian navy vessel in the curch strait what if you do you're going to be rolled so if you let the ships through what you've done is you've created a precedent where they will think that they can come back the next on without going through the procedure and they will so you can't really do that it's but if you stop them then you then you are made to look like the bad guys because you're stopping people most people don't know that there's an agreement about how to use the strait so they don't know that the ukrainians always up to now have fulfilled that egregious so as far as they're concerned the russians are seizing ships well that's the russian seizing ships as an example of the of the bad behavior but of course they don't know the background of course nobody's going to explain the background to them either i'm quite sure that most of the parliamentarians from british baldwin have no idea what the agreement of the straits is and haven't bothered to look. which india is now in china state energy giant a c n.p.c.

is replacing the french a firm total as the operator of iran's south park gas field and s r t is that daniel bushell comments of the move might come as a surprise to some. self pars is the angelina jolie of gas fields with by far the biggest reserves on the planet it's the industry's star attraction yet desperate bid to keep its paws on polls have been well a total failure who wins from trumpeting its own ally france his biggest bugbear china of course china sea and b.c. has officially replaced the pal insults parts but it has not started work practically talks need to be held with c. and b. c. about when it will start operations what about your pledge to stand up to terrible mr trump in gas industry lingo hot air mr michael will fight his nation's top employers unless it means shirtfront in washington and then. we are going to start
6:10 pm
a strategic trade war with the united states over iran and i repeat very clearly we're not going to sanction all counter sanction american companies in response to this subject we will not force companies to stay and that is the reality of the business life the president of the french republic but he's not this is your of total never fear you both younker to the rescue of a couple diverse as the european commission we have the duty to protect european companies so we now need to act and this is why we're launching the process of activating the blocking statute from one thousand nine hundred six. and the one thing that blocking statute to stop u.s. sanctions hurting europe know we're very angry at you mr trump and we're just going to let our companies fail as rival regions take over german italian investors quit iran's huge rail upgrade russia and china step in india's actually doubled purchases of iran's crude member america's diplomatic diplomat pledging to torture
6:11 pm
tehran we're going to do everything we can discourage iran hard as the british say to make to squeeze them until the pips squeak their squeaking sell nets actually europe's top firms as that. dropped by e.u. leaders so. i'll veto thing e.u. independence so much for europe standing up to trump. the us federal judge has postponed a ruling on whether to reveal possible charges against wiki leaks founder julian assange charities came up and has more. judge has asked both sides to come back in one week with supplemental information and a response so no conclusion at the courthouse in alexandria virginia now essentially what is taking place is that the reporter's committee has filed to make it public any charges facing julian asunta the co-founder of wiki leaks now essentially we've had a grand jury in alexandria virginia that has been hearing testimony related to
6:12 pm
julius songe and at this point there are no public charges that been filed however they document has been made public a case file from the prosecution and that led many to believe that there were going to be criminal charges pending against julian a songe now at this point there is no public record of that in the court will neither confirm nor deny any charges prosecutors say that any charges against assad can't be made public until he has been arrested and apprehended however the reporter's committee is saying that this should be a matter of public record and it should be well known now to speculate the jew in assad should be charged for releasing u.s. military material that was classified related to iraq and afghanistan other speculate he could face charges related to the diplomatic cables that were classified that he made public now still others suggest that it's possibly the cia's cyber security programs however the guardian newspaper in the united kingdom
6:13 pm
has recently come out with a story alleging that secret meetings took place between julian assad and paul man a forward at the ecuadorian embassy and that apparently paul mann a fourth visited julian assange twenty thirteen twenty fifteen and the spring of two thousand and sixteen just a few months after one of the alleged meetings between giuliana songe and paul man of fort wiki leaks revealed that some of the democratic party e-mails had been stolen by russian intelligence officers now many are suggesting that it's possible that the charges against. are related to his meetings allegedly with paul manna for however wiki leaks has this response remember this day when they go and permitted a serial fabricates a to totally destroy the paper's reputation wiki leaks is willing to bet the guardian a million dollars and he said it is that manifolds never matches so on outside the courthouse in alexandria virginia supporters of joyous songe have made
6:14 pm
a public presence and displayed their words the reason that the reporters committee in particular is particularly interested in this manner and it's because of the possibility or at least suggestion that's been made. that. the criminal charges against mr signs are predicated on his publication of information i think there's a public interest certainly weighs in favor of disclosure we'll have to see i think how the court ultimately. aid groups have called on the u.s. to halt its military support for saudi arabia over the devastating military campaign in yemen in a joint statement five charities sounded the alarm saying that up to fourteen million people could starve to death unless urgent action is taken. the united states is one of the most generous donors of humanitarian assistance in yemen but these contributions pale in comparison to the harm caused by u.s. military support and diplomatic cover to saudi arabia and the united arab emirates if the us does not cease its military support for this saudi u.a.e.
6:15 pm
coalition its too will bear responsibility for what may be the largest famine in decades saudi warplanes have been bombing yemen sense of march two thousand and fifteen and started as an intervention to prop up the country's leader against a hoot the rebel insurgency the conflict has led to severe famine as well as shortages of medicine more than ten thousand yemenis have died in the war with some killed in the fighting and others succumbing to disease or hunger. and despite mounting international pressure on saudi arabia over the war in yemen as well as the murder of journalist jamal khashoggi the u.k.'s carried out joint military drills with riyadh involving both british and saudi royal air forces earlier we heard from charney executive director at the norwegian refugee council usa who is one of the signatories of the joint statement to the us government he told us both warring sides in yemen are contributing to the ongoing famine. there is
6:16 pm
a complete economic collapse that is primarily responsible for creating the famine conditions at this point in other words people don't have the money to buy food there are delays in getting goods into yemen and then on top of this you have the conflict you have parties to the conflict that are preventing us from gaining access to vulnerable people the coalition is bombing food granary use and preventing the production of food in some areas in the north on sarala for their part they are often preventing people from moving to safer places to where they might be able to find either food or at least shelter from the from the conflict. washing aren't international monitors have to shop eczema.
6:18 pm
themselves worlds apart. she still looks for common ground. for a welcome back this is our team international the atlantic council a think tank that advises facebook is offering its help to saudi arabia in handling the fallout caused by the murder of journalist jamal khashoggi an open letter from the group advises crown prince mohammed bin solomon to refocus western thinking by redoubling his efforts to reform saudi society it led to council describes the murder of a show as brutal foolish and irresponsible but it goes on to argue that severing u.s. ties with of the saudis would strengthen china and russia jamal khashoggi who wrote for the washington post was killed at the beginning of october here's
6:19 pm
6:20 pm
so significant at this point. you're referring to the whole place in general yes the audit council yes the op ed. well yeah i mean i follow the atlantic council closely because i want to know how the sausage is made in washington and because they have this lucrative deal with facebook to basically that political content including you know the content that i post of my own reporting to facebook and you know i saw that the atlantic council it published this op ed by fred camp their president who ironically used to be a correspondent for the wall street journal basically urging constructive engagement with mohamed bin selma and right after the cia hughes's him of being directly involved in the bone sawing of a washington post columnist and i you know i see there are these op ed is kind of for internal consumption in the think tank world in washington and i wanted to give it more oxygen so i was one of the first to kind of point that out on twitter and
6:21 pm
then it went from there with just a full on pile on on the atlantic council to. it's great for people to finally see what the true agenda of this saudi funded think tank which is also funded by the arms industry is it's interesting that they are a saudi funded think tank they've kind of taken an interesting approach what do you think of the way that the atlantic council brought russia and china into the equation. well that's just kind of a way to cover for what their real agenda is i don't think although there is genuine concern within washington that mohammed bin selman is actually getting a little bit too close to other powers and is taking his own course and i think that may have influenced the cia's decision to kind of essentially call for regime change in riyadh but nevertheless you know i watched closely some of the think tank discussions right after the show the. case blew up at the hoover institution for example there's a lot of discomfort on these panels about scrutinizing the u.s.
6:22 pm
saudi relationship so now that it appears that mohammed bin selman will remain the crown prince he isn't going anywhere the think tanks are trying to normalize him again and they are paid heavily to basically act as an registered lobbyist by saudi arabia then you also have the arms industry raytheon lockheed martin these groups are paying the atlantic council as well for these kind of opinions and the arms industry and its lobby in washington has been extremely nervous about possibly losing sales to saudi arabia and they've been quiet until now now we're starting to see these kind of murmurings so you bring up raytheon in the big war industry if you will which brings me my next question if america fails to take any real action against the saudis over the murder of shoji does this set a dangerous precedent. well of course it sets a precedent for the repression of more dissidents and mohammed bin someone has
6:23 pm
locked up you know feet women's rights at activists he's locked up lots of dissidents he x. executed a nonviolent shia cleric nimer on him or killing that was ironically defended by jamal his shoji so this kind of gives him carte blanche but i think we're going to see this case play out as the democrats take power in the house and we're going to start to see this saudi u.s. relationship scrutinized in a way that we haven't before and in riyadh mohammed bin someone will continue to turn to other sources of power to balance things out and you've touched on this a bit primarily because they're funded by the saudis but judging from the letter from the atlantic council it seems more than willing to help the saudis iron out the p.r. disaster they don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth following this horrible crime is this behavior typical for a western think tank or i should say an independent western think tank. oh yeah absolutely i mean the. leading obama staffers were quoted by jeffrey goldberg at the
6:24 pm
atlantic referring tasteless lee to k. street as arab occupied territory i would never use that term but they were referring to the saudi control over the think tank world and all the saudi lobbying that's taking place. and so the atlantic council has really been a key asset not just for saudi arabia but for the gulf states in general bahrain qatar if you look at the work they put out on syria they were pushing regime not only regime change but they were actually attempting to kosher saudi backed militias like jaish al islam as jeffersonian democrats on their website in washington at panels so this is completely in keeping with the atlantic council's behavior what's shocking is that facebook is now paying them upwards of five hundred thousand dollars to that political content and maintain the integrity of their website while they're defending a centrally defending the killing of
6:25 pm
a journalist and interesting web if you mix it all together you brought up k. street in your opinion how much influence do these think tanks actually have over u.s. foreign policy right now. where the think tanks basically serve as not exactly idea factories i always say that they're all tank and no think but what they do is basically provide jobs for people who are out of government they provide governments in waiting so you know you have the center for american progress that's basically the next democratic administration the heritage foundation basically writes republican policy they function as government within the government and saudi arabia and the gulf states are a major source of income and many of the middle east institute which is entirely funded by the gulf states so and. you've had a trial. we're just running out of time i just want to go ahead i just want to say
6:26 pm
thank you very much for your thoughts i'm sure we could talk about this for hours upon and because it just gets more interesting from here sorry we've run out of time. investigative journalist blumenthal thanks for being with us here on our to international all right i will be with you in let's say about twenty four minutes with a full look at your news you are watching our international and we're certainly glad to have you with us. u.s. veterans who come back from war often tell the same stories. were going after the people who were killing civilians they were not interested in the wellbeing of their own soldiers either there already several generations of them so i just got this memo from the circular defense's office that says we're going to attack and
6:27 pm
destroy the government and in seven countries in five years americans pay for the wars with them money others with their lives if we were willing to go into harm's way and willing to risk being killed for a war then surely we can risk some discomfort and easiness for. you know world of big partisan movie lot and conspiracy it's time to wake up to dig deeper to hit the stories that mainstream media refuses to tell more than ever we need to be smart we need to stop slamming the door. and shouting past each other it's time for critical thinking it's time to fight for the middle for the truth the time is now for watching closely watching the hawks.

my day everybody. so i just got a positive mindset because you have a negative like if you have a negative mindset. you think everything bothers you are you going to be pressed. you want to. what we. our daughter katie was first diagnosed with a very sensitive condition. back in one thousand nine hundred four and we realized that we didn't want her to spend the rest of her life alone and we knew there had to be other families out there that were going through the same experience we were and somehow families were managing to make it so we needed to know who we could talk to what kind of resources what the scientists were working
6:30 pm
