a top diplomats from russia iran and turkey agree to work on constitutional changes for syria's future also. as anger rises over when the president daniel ortega has cracked down on the media and civil rights groups we look at why the u.s. imposes sanctions on the country but turns a blind eye to violations in neighboring ponderous. broadcasting. this is our international and from thomas really glad to have you with us. all right one of the first journalists to report on the infamous trump russia dossier michael isikoff has said that it contains numerous claims that are likely false and then that interview has drawn praise from the u.s.
6:02 pm
president. thank you to michael isikoff yahoo for honesty what this means is that the feisal warrants and the whole russian witch hunt is a fraud and a hoax which should be ended immediately also it was paid for by crook hillary and d.n.c. earlier but trying to go comments now on this huge you turn on the steel dossier. sometimes it takes only one spark one report from one or a handful of journalists from a big outlet to really send the media world into overdrive what a good example was when the chief investigative reporter for yahoo news michael isikoff made a bombshell out of the infamous steel dossier that was a big one remember with the p. tape aka the golden shower compromise with plenty of alleged collusion evidence well here's what the same man says now and december twenty eighth when you actually get into the details of the steel dosia the specific allegations we have not seen
6:03 pm
the evidence to support them and in fact there's good grounds to think that some of the most sensational allegations will never be proven and are likely folks and this something we find out almost two years since the dossier came to light but back in january twenty seventh seeing hours and hours of airtime on these steel memos bombarded t.v. screens to tell the world a story of collusion plus its thanks to the dossier for one that the f.b.i. secured a warrant to spy on donald trump's advisor pretty serious stuff former british intelligence officer behind the dot ca that contained explosive allegations about president donald trump he also addressed the dossier of alleged dirt on donald trump in russia the report included unsubstantiated claims that russian intelligence compiled a dossier on mr trump during visits to moscow the dossier was full of claims that could have been seen as good collusion proof the most notable alleging donald
6:04 pm
trump's former attorney michael cohen traveled to prague to fix and coordinate all that campaign scheming together with russia and the so-called p tape was perhaps part of it too with the most bizarre claims that russian security services had blackmailed trump with recordings of his dirty deeds. in a moscow hotel this wasn't just something that randomly came from donald trump the president pretty much repeated a crucial statement by the author of the dossier himself revealed in a court hearing chris steele said the following was supposed to happen as a result of the dossiers publication based on the voice party switchers the democratic national committee and she could consider steps they would be legally entitled to take to challenge the validity of the outcome of that election so if she didn't pay for it it was done through one of the clinton affiliated organizations only with

a specific purpose to find some kind of legal ground to challenge the results of the two thousand and sixteen vote. the positive agreement on the fate of syria has been thrashed out in switzerland's geneva at a meeting hosted by the un's special syria envoy de mistura top to move diplomats from russia iran and turkey have agreed to launch a committee by january for drafting a new constitution. of a very useful meeting was the secretary general special envoy agreed to. the convening of the first session of the constitutional community ingenue in the next year steps will lead to the launch of a viable and lasting syrian led syrian and un facilitate the political process in their closing statement the three foreign ministers of russia iran and turkey that they presented the positive results of their consultations on the formation of
6:06 pm
a syrian constitutional committee to either rewrite the syrian constitution or to amend it in order to allow for a wider pads syrian election presidential election part of a political resolution to this war that has raged on for so many years the ministers themselves from what we saw were smiling and laughing afterwards they described their work as again positive and they have committed to seeing the syrian constitutional committee sit for its first session early next year early two thousand and nineteen we hoop of course to be able to do this because this trio that have been working together for several years now russia iran and turkey they've been able to produce results you need concrete results we've seen cease fires in syria established with their backing we've seen withdrawals other deals
6:07 pm
deescalation demilitarized zone is established over syria so there's a lot of optimism going forward that they'll be able to get the rebels the opposition and the syrian government to work together early on the turkish foreign minister though did remark that they had seen very little cooperation from the united states and the coalition that it leads the united states itself has shared its goals as publicly stated that its aims. with regards to syria have shifted that it no longer sees unseating president bashar al assad or regime change in syria as a goal we're not asking for regime change we're not asking for the russians to leave we're asking for is a compromise settlement there's a strong. readiness on the part of western nations not to ante up money for that disaster unless we have some kind of idea that their government is ready to compromise or nursing are created yet another horror in the years ahead
6:08 pm
nevertheless the situation in syria remains volatile especially now with turkey threatening to intervene to invade northern syria out of security concerns as they see the white e.g. syrian kurds that control much of northern syria as a terrorist organization and they have threatened to act we're also seeing sporadic fighting in the jihad ists joined by rebels there and the syrian arab army clashing from time to time so there is certainly motivation to get things done. british government is ramping up preparations for a no deal bragg's it as teresa mayes that withdrawal plan continues facing opposition from m.p.'s a vote in parliament has now been scheduled for next month the u.k.'s brags and secretary says a no deal scenario is now receiving significant attention. the government's priority remains to security all but we need to recognize with fourteen weeks to go
6:09 pm
that a responsible government is preparing for the eventuality that we leave without it . britain's defense secretary has said three thousand five hundred troops will be put on standby as part of the no deal contingency plan other measures include securing medical and food supplies during the coming weeks families and businesses will also be receiving official guidance on how to prepare for a possible chaotic divorce with the. if you're struggling to keep up with all of the latest developments on that you're not alone in fact one thing that we can keep up with and agree on is the fact that theresa may still is almost certainly not going to make it through parliament in january the cabinet today used its last meeting before it breaks up for christmas to agree to ramp up no deal preparations even though it says and still believes that the deal that the prime minister has put in place is still the government's top priority having said that it is just one
6:10 pm
hundred one days away so what we're seeing now is ministers really preparing for a no deal in full let me talk you through some of those preparations in some sense it does sound rather read lobbying we're hearing that all the u.k. citizens will be sent information about how to prepare for a note that almost sounds somewhat like a survivor's guide to a no deal on top of that money from a two billion pounds contingency fund will be allocated to various governmental departments space is thought to be set aside on ships to ensure that medical supplies would continue as normal but most worryingly the defense secretary gavin williamson he said that three thousand five hundred troops would be put on standby in the event of a no deal so. we are doing is putting contingency plan to close and what we will do is have three and a half thousand service personnel. readiness including regulars and reserves and over support any government department on any contingencies. but call that scare
6:11 pm
mongering or call that sensible but across the channel the european parliament's negotiator has also sounded the alarms over a no deal. that he wrote on twitter those who glorify or no deal that are totally irresponsible it is not the job of politicians to make to the people they lead any poor and there is no such thing as a managed deal well here. in westminster today we had an emergency debate on the state of negotiations what we heard was a a debate that was talking about last week's summit in brussels and indeed to resume still in general given the fact that the debates were put on hold just last week that was the opportunity for m.p.'s to really thrash out all of the ins and outs the nitty gritty of to resume a still another prime minister house and start a vote will be happening before january the twenty first and that is the absolute
6:12 pm
last possible date to do so the prime minister said it would happen the week before but since she postponed that vote last week she's yet to gain any assurances from the e.u. that was her mission last week she was almost begging leaders to give her some sort of political and legal reassurances to bring back to parliament so that m.p.'s would finally get behind the e.u. however categorically told her that they would not be renegotiating any deal under any single circumstances so now many are saying that theresa may simply should hold the vote sooner rather than later. international history professor at the london school of economics told us you could crushing out of the e.u. is looking increasingly likely. i don't think it will happen i think it would end up getting out without a deal determination on the part of the british government to try and scare the people and to putting pressure on their m.p.'s like it was to throw for mrs may's absolutely abominable deal so she still thinks if she still has to believe that she
6:13 pm
might get some kind of sliver of a concession from brussels most of our trade this lissie you and we trade with other countries quite comfortably the people doing making special arrangements to make it through make sure everything goes smoothly and this no there's no reason why trade shouldn't continue much as usual i mean nobody wants to stop trade no decent nobody wants to stop their planes flying we just bring in the medicines we want because we recognize the french or the european regulators regulatory stand regulatory standards there's no problem there. i don't know trump's former national security adviser got a tough reception from the judge at his sentencing hearing on tuesday we'll bring you the full story after a short break this is r.t. international.
6:14 pm
6:15 pm
when so many find themselves worlds apart. she says to look for common ground. welcome back this is our two international i me sentencing of trumps former national security adviser michael flynn has been postponed until march next year despite giving flynn a second chance during of the court hearing the judge pulled no punches. all along you are an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the national security adviser arguably that undermines everything this flag over here stands for arguably you sold your country out. flynn has been under investigation as part of special counsel robert miller's probe into alleged russian interference in the two thousand and sixteen u.s.
6:16 pm
election he's already pleaded guilty to a charge of lying to the f.b.i. about his conversations with russia's ambassador flynn has also come under fire for attending a dinner with a lot of money put him back in two thousand and fifteen to mark our teas tenth anniversary. all right we cannot cross live to former u.s. congressman michael patrick flanagan who can help us kind of gauge the situation a little bit here thanks for being with us here on our to international very interesting a bizarre day. i mean in terms of today in the events with the judge and that plan sentencing hearing a special counsel robert mueller had recommended very lenient treatment for general flynn because of his cooperation also the defense of course argued for very lenient sentencing there they were both in agreement why do you think he met with such a hostile reaction from this particular judge. well there the unsealing of the two two indictments of flynn's business partners the day before and i think the judge
6:17 pm
was badly informed of the timings and and and information and how these all related to each other because later in the day judge sullivan walked back his comments and about the treasonous behavior of being a foreign agent while you're on to say that this simply wasn't true it's the timings are different and so the judge had to can eat his words a little bit later in the day but flynn in the face of a hostile and badly informed judge because of the events just a few hours you know the night before had to say well no i'm not going to let this go. sentence me right now is take some time and you can collect yourself your honor and will have a sensing a later on if you want us to that the judge said sure and so his sentencing will be ninety days down the road and i think the judge will be a little more chastened at that time and willing to take the recommendations of the special counsel right maybe some time for him to take a breather if you will now so the judge he also you brought this up you mentioned
6:18 pm
that flynn was basically selling out his country is that an accurate description of his actions in this case. no because he wasn't working for the. turks i think is the working working for turkey while he was national security advisor the timings are different and so there was there was a puja problem with the judges observance of that and so he that's why he had to walk his comments back flynn was an unregistered agent at a previous time that's true most of the folks who work for foreign countries in this in this city are at one time or another on register the protest your group for example was on register the entire time they work for half a dozen foreign countries and no one thinks that they're spies. the problem was that flynt went into the government where the protest their group to protest and the others did not and so fled and came under special scrutiny so that's the problem with him but the the times are difference and he's he's the all they all
6:19 pm
they have him for is not any treasonable activity but having misremembered something having the special prosecutor color that is a lie and having fled rather than spend the rest of his life defending the why admits to it the promise of there being no jail time and so they reached an accord to to separate and the judge just kind of got in the way of that today if you look at michael flynn's cooperation with the investigation the team has said that he's already cooperated about as much as he can this is also in the sentencing documents that they submitted before today's hearing or. so what more get help could he give i mean there is some talk of him possibly being a witness in a trial coming up but how else can he help them all investigation. i don't think he can and i think the what he will do is provide some testimony probably not even helpful just just just a factual testimony in the trial of his business associates as they call
6:20 pm
a response but that's the only thing he's got left on his. radar and so it's lucky that the judge gave him an extra ninety days to give the judge a chance to cool down which he didn't realize you needed at the time but i'm glad i hope he realizes that now after walking back his comments earlier or later in the day so i it's going to work out for general i think you'll get no time we'll move on and mohler will move on with the rest of his investigations all right it's going to interesting to see how this all plays out i guess we're all going to be waiting until march at the very least michael patrick flanagan a former republican congressman from illinois. land of lincoln stay safe thanks for being with us on international any time. or let's switch gears now to costa rica where several hundred exiled nicaraguans have been protesting against their country's president daniel ortega.
6:21 pm
they're demanding that media and civil rights in their country stop being repressed humanitarian groups have been critical of government raids targeting opposition media and rights organizations in nicaragua more than three hundred people have been killed in the six months of civil unrest thousands of nicaraguans have fled to neighboring costa rica since the outbreak of anti-government protests. a number of other central american countries have faced a similar accusations over their human rights records however the u.s. seems to handle each case differently donald quarter comments. it's a tale of two central american countries both plagued with somewhat similar problems corruption violence and government crackdowns. that. the rule of law has not fared so well in either country with one door us and nicaragua both sinking towards
6:22 pm
the bottom of the list ponderosa in nicaragua both exemplify a recent regional trend of suppressing the right to protest and using excessive force against demonstrators however hunder us is the only one out of the two that the us seems to have a soft side for don't just take my word for it nicaragua was one of the us is tyrannical trio the spread of tyranny follows a predictable pattern media and opposition parties are silenced the regime unleashes its militants to kidnap torture and execute dissidents but one doris well they're of valuable ally especially after they voted with the us to legitimize to roussillon as israel's capital to people a hundred and stupid with us to make that decision for ourselves and decide we're we've got our embassy and that's right and we greatly appreciate not just
6:23 pm
disappeared on them but on so many. now both nicaragua and honduras crackdown on anti-government protests this year but they've evoked quite different reactions from the u.s. when nicaragua does it it's a threat to the legitimacy of the current administration every does not victim of this violence and intimidation campaign further undermine its take its legitimacy. and one hundred doors cracks down on protesters after a sketchy election well that's a time for people to hold hands and sing kumbaya. of the election regions. dynasty's digits very good if you can come together we start to become inclusive we find success but that's words now what about the money the u.s. is shoveling military and economic aid honduras is way sixty eight million tax dollars worth and at the very same time nicaragua is about to be slapped with
6:24 pm
further sanctions just last week congress passed the nneka act over the latin american countries corruption and human rights violations so two countries with very similar problems but two very different approaches the view of those two countries has been highly. distorted by the mainstream media and by the u.s. government united states is not concerned about human rights and democracy in fact we know that the u.s. supports seventy three percent of the world's you tater ships but uses human rights very. arbitrarily and selectively in order to justify its own political ends up of course is a classic example of that where the u.s. ordered this supposed dictatorship for decades and then when there was a popular all revolution by the standard nieces who worked for over ten years
6:25 pm
supporting culture terror against their country people forget about that you know and those things need to be remembered in the context of the of the situations we're talking about today. belgium's prime minister announced his resignation on tuesday following a split in his coalition after he signed onto a new un migration pact it followed the largest of the coalition ruling parties deciding to quit. it leaving charles michel leading a minority government right wing parties organized a rally in the belgian capital on sunday against the migration pact more than five thousand people came out onto the streets. was. was was. thank you
6:26 pm
ek was with the protesters trying to force their way into new buildings police responded with water cannons and tear gas to push them back that un migration pact was agreed to by more than one hundred sixty un member states and a summit in mark ash last monday that aims to find a common global approach to migration but critics say it will limit the ability of countries to shape their own migration policies lawyer and politician michelle kamen thinks signing the pact was a matter of principle for mr michel. louis with an underclass that fought for use. that it was a. question this. should at least for the end of the year which was the same issue and so the largest party. he decided to make also in south matter of principle are wrong the signature of this obviously.
6:27 pm
nowhere treaty any more for we already. knew the. motion also no confidence filed by civil parties and he knew you were here the majority was into this void she did. been cast. so this was the only way out and. try to convince the satinwood in his speech. last. piece that you want to work with them and fight it into the outlet of solution. but curia understood that there was absolutely no support from the opposition parties to maintain these go for them even induce the conditions.
