and there's a little but one of the rescuers heard a child crying we stopped all the machinery to listen in we were saying to keep quiet and the baby was reacting and kept silent we started asking where are you then there was a noise she heard we started working that there was a risk of further collapse we were afraid as the child was crying for help. our correspondent spoke to the parents of the rescued baby unlikely to go six hospital . right now i'm right outside the hospital where the medics are fighting for the life of the van yes imagine spending more than thirty hours under the rubble in his crib when it's minus twenty celsius outside really the rescuers are telling us that it is just because the baby was wrapped in very warm blankets this is essentially what saved diviners life so the moment van his parents learned that their youngest son is alive they rushed to this hospital and we talked to them their. new film
5:03 pm
it's. look gorgeous fashion but a really intimate is you. know really is the first and most of them. for this reason. but perhaps the most incredible thing about this whole rescue is that it was called the making of dad's hands because he was at work when the disaster when the tragedy unraveled he came back to where he used to live and he really wanted to shill because he had an idea as to where the baby my degree and he wanted to show rescue support but because of the whole place was cordoned off and because of the very grave risk of the demolition of the building he wasn't allowed to vote for a very long time eventually he told me he had to sneak into to tell the world

rescuers that that approximate area where his son could be and he got a number of one of the rescuers and do you know that very rescue and did manage to extract his son from under the rubble gave a call to the dad this is one of the families in the their stories one of the stories that struck this industrial city in russia as you are as we talked to other . survivors who two other residents of this building who were affected by the tragedy today. is a day before our cat called out all you know the next day he says the left part of the block had fallen down obviously you know i heard only boom we were at home but we're supposed to have gone there too my mom was supposed to be there but it's a last moments ago today or a number of. my daughter called me at seven fifteen in the morning and told me that our entrance had been destroyed. when i went down i saw it was in ruins but my wife

was rescued by firefighters with a ladder. as of now emergency services have had to put to a halt all operations outside the building because they say the danger that the other parts of the building might collapse are just too high for them to continue what they were doing. while the term month old boy is said to be in a very serious condition this morning has been sent here to moscow for further treatment russia's emergencies ministry says nine people are now known to have died these are the latest pictures in a couple of hours ago showing more of the extent of the horror of those out there more than thirty others are reportedly missing over a thousand are evacuated from their homes following the collapse the building as i was so worried about the state of the rest the buildings around it is what some of the witnesses have said about what they went through.
5:06 pm
and then something peculiar a few hours ago on top of all that that happened the second explosion need to go choose the ring this time a minibus exploded sims three people died there the instance said to have taken place on the same street where the building collapsed on monday it's a mystery at the moment policed emergency services have been deployed to the city
5:07 pm
because of that explosion still not police say that looking into it. british police have confirmed that they're treating a stabbing attack at a major rail hub in manchester in northern england as a terrorist incident three people were injured including a police officer on new year's eve. we are treating this as a terrorist investigation which is being led by counterterrorism officers with support from greater manchester police the suspects was heard shouting a lower bar when police arrested him officers used a taser and pepper spray to subdue the man who's now custody the three wounded people suffered serious but not life threatening injuries the police officers no been released hospital. apart from the attack in manchester again this is coming in an incident in the german cities or bought up in essen is being classified as terrorism by police that's a new line five people left injured after what happened there the suspect is a fifty year old german man who slammed his car into a crowd of people early tuesday the majority of the victims were migrants from

syria and afghanistan it's reported the driver made xenophobia comments while police were arresting him german media also quoted herbert rolled the top security official in north rhine-westphalia state who said that quote the man had a clear intention to kill foreigners and. elsewhere in europe in france president mccrone is used his new year's speech to hit out at extremist elements in his country. i mean as a whole see we have perience great division and anger broke out anger against injustices against the course of a sometimes in comprehensible globalization against an administrative system that's become too complex and lacking in empathy there was also anger against profound changes that call into question our society's identity and direction this anger has shown me one thing no matter how excessive or overflowing it is we will not quit.

because message didn't go down well with opposition leaders who called him an imposter and accused him of being out of touch with the french people the authorities in paris were primed to tackle more unrest on new year's eve two with twelve thousand police officers stand by in the end though since very few protesters turned out those who did were blocked from joining the celebrations in central paris french publisher an author emirate morville predicts the pretty demonstrations will resume soon though he thinks. with all the blunders the government and especially the m.p.'s are making i don't see any soothing of this to ation this movement it will of course continue into two thousand and nineteen the movement is so popular between seventeen and eighty percent of the french support them all approve of the movements that it is not excluded that especially in the provinces john barb's or even police men who have more in common with the protestors and with the officials in paris because become sympathetic with their cause and refused to execute orders eminent mccraw embodies what the yellow vests
5:10 pm
rejects globalization and pro-business policies in a way he cannot really given without stopping did what he is he's lacking leeway he he sorts through to diffuse the crisis in the midst of december by announcing a ten billion euro package of measures which was which which was not really convincing france was hit by anti-government protests for much of twenty eighteen starting from those demonstrations against labor reforms to the latest yellow verse protests over fuel taxes are paris space correspondent charlotte do bensky recaps events. let. me take this infamous phrase often attributed to mary on twitter has been used to demonstrate me a brute livius nurse the selfishness of france's elites which in turn led to the french revolution now the attribution may be misguided but the lesson isn't if you can wall the cries of the social classes or you mock them you do so at your own
5:11 pm
peril. the current french president should have seen it long ago as unrest has been bubbling throughout two thousand and eighteen. things started to turn nasty as the french government attempted to have picked an empty community to land that they. pool at the gate. it's a pretty nasty six zero should be distributed to. the talks will be eco are just joking but meanwhile the call was dismissive and this should should be built this period he must be evacuated will be back during the morning if the republican leader must be respectful.
5:12 pm
mayhem first reached paris in spring calls for reform plans or may first violence quickly spilled over and dozens were arrested. but the penny bill did drop for my colleagues spend the summer offering advice to all who will would listen in raging. the country in the process he said. given these lutheran people who've lived through transformations in recent years i'm not exactly ghouls who are resistant to. nuts diplomatic he doesn't know how to talk to people he cannot say about all of people all of the nations it's just bad luck on both sides to the foreigners and to the people like
5:13 pm
french people comes down. to come find you a job by crossing the road oh yeah you don't say that to people people are struggling to easy deciding when you don't have a problem how can even their job even that everybody can do it just by working out crossing the street bet it's not real life it's just a very high risk get out service you just want it's not great to say things like that to french people people aren't precarious situations i think it's quite ridiculous for a president to be so far from reality so by the time he told pension is still plaguing the french had come pocket full of him to serve it refused to do so on the general shoulder cool told me you can speak freely the only thing we those have the right is to clear the country would be different if everyone did the same. staying stuck trying to people in france you don't see people start complaining specially
5:14 pm
in france the people that complain all the time we love that it's calm it's not. arrogant i think a little aggressive you know once again a very bold and there's no other word in the good old french spirit of things anger and resentment towards the man or woman described as the president of the rich really or without them by seventeen they had even. if we see these crazy on the streets of greece. she's. offered an olive branch to many to withhold food laid from the yellow best smart still don't call me a cool role the rules of play to win that expected two thousand a liking to build
5:15 pm
a role in the government if the boy would. take care. of business the north korean leader meantime delivered a stern warning to the u.s. in his new year's address kim jong un said that while his country is still intent on the need to arise in washington must lifted sanctions if it wants to see further progress it's obvious you know to keep the if the u.s. does not keep its promise made in front of the whole world and misjudges our patience and insist sanctions and pressures on our republic we may be left with no choice but to consider a new way to safeguard our sovereignty and interests and establish peace and stability on the korean peninsula. his relations between the united states north korea have been improving since june when kim. met with donald trump about singapore's historic summit he promised to work towards a negro's
5:16 pm
a should exchange for security guarantees and a commitment to peace from the u.s. but washington's yet to ease its economic pressure on p.r. which is being hit hard by sanctions like kim jong un also used his speech to call on south korea to end its joint military drills with the u.s. political ally sunderland told us that washington does need to make some concessions if it really wants or korea to continue on its path toward the need for as a ship some administration the smaller piece of the most with all this regime in the world i mean. experience shows that. some of this regime the change in tactics maintaining sanctions even if the law is giving up. on all the walls if they see that. the kind of. tension over the north korean convinced they expect to see some. of
5:17 pm
the sanctions that they'll see that that's what explains the warning all the trouble. a lot of speeches made new year's day another one to president troublous new year's speech was a long list of his claimed the country's months but failed to mention some of his more questionable decisions at twenty eight he would tell you all about. what politicians do you should. put themselves on the line they did accept the reject. so when you want to be president. or somehow want to. have to go right to be prosecuted like that before three of them will be good. interest. always in the water. pressure.
5:18 pm
when else should seem wrong why don't we all just don't all. get to see palin to stay active. and engaged equals betrayal. when something find themselves worlds apart we choose to look for common ground. again folks watching out international smaller if you change in it said coming up to one thousand in the morning here now donald trump used his new year's speech to
5:19 pm
list what his view what he views as the chief months of his administration he took the opportunity to praise the deals he'd struck but neglected seems to mention most of the agreements he broke and. there is never been an administration and i'm very proud of this that's done more than the trumpet ministration in the first two years of office we made a deal with mexico we made a deal with canada we made that deal with south korea and then you look at north korea we're doing really well we moved our embassy to jerusalem in israel i promised it and i did it. one of the protocols that wasn't mentioned was the decision by the united states and israel to leave the un's cultural heritage organization after years of bitter wrangling washington announced its decision to leave in a school in october accusing the agency of anti israel bias now the moves come into force. on the twelfth of october two thousand and seventeen the department of state notified unesco directed general it mean a bulk of the u.s.
5:20 pm
decision to withdraw from their goodness nation and to seek to establish a permanent observer mission to unesco this decision was not taken lightly and reflects his concerns with the mountaineer being the need for fundamental reform and they're going to say sion and convening anti israel liason. now at this point that we can review that in twenty seventeen there was outcry from the united states and israel when unesco designated a hebron the city in the west bank designated as a world historical site now there is a contested area in the center of that city to muslims it's the ibrahimi mosque to jews it's the cave of patriarchs and at that point we saw some loud outcry from the united states and from israel now it's important to note that this isn't the first time that we've heard accusations of a pro palestinian bias from the usa and from israel and twenty eleven when the body officially recognized a state of palestine at that point the usa and israel both stopped paying dues to
5:21 pm
unesco they were then stripped of their voting rights in two thousand and thirteen after having not paid their dues so at this point we see the united states carrying out a policy that it's long carried out which is when it doesn't like certain international accords and agreements or international bodies it simply withdraw let's review the united states we withdraw from the optional protocol in dispute resolution to the vienna convention on diplomatic relations the united states is officially withdrawing from the un human rights council we will not cooperate with the i.c.c. we will provide no assistance to the i.c.c. baseless politicize claims are brought against us hypocritical bodies and institution unjust prosecution by this illegitimate court the council ceases to be . of its name we will commence a review of all international agreements that may still expose the united states to
5:22 pm
purported binding jurisdiction dispute resolution in the international court of justice so the united states continues to withdraw from international bodies and international agreements in response to decisions it does not approve of a correspondent new york city i spoke to former u.s. ambassador peter galbraith who believes america's withdrawal from international agreements organizations like that will eventually be reversed. so this this is entirely political step you know i do it has to be pointed out that the irony of it is that so many of these institutions the united nations the international court of justice were ones that were created a human rights were created by the united states the united states to lead. and now we withdraw our but also this concept from a very sized ministration or very extreme one one i have to point out that lost the election by three million votes and based on the midterm results is not likely to
5:23 pm
be around it after twenty twenty and so very likely these decisions will then be reversed so my advice to the rest of the world is take a deep breath and america. will follow all the twists and turns in this new year talking of which is one of the second of january moscow of course one twenty three in the morning but still is just about the season to be jolly twenty nine tate has come and taken the reins around the world let's show the pictures can some pretty pictures he gives an old walks of life and welcome to new year from war torn countries middle east prosperous europe new year's celebrations all the very special place in the hearts of russians too must have holiday people from the we can set here some of the best moments from around the globe that we've put together especially for. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. ha ha

you know they are local to going to the movie can you see as you know if you buy if . you're in the form of the media. i'm with you more in their favor than was in the mud almost nothing to do with many balls up in the phone while. i was at the field. january first twenty ninth day how be the new year out there time for some major predictions for the following twelve months guaranteed to be one hundred percent
5:29 pm
accurate stacie one resent wrong you mean because predictions it's impossible to predict the future and that's one thing to always know about stock markets whenever anybody tells you that they know where the price is going to go they're wrong because nobody knows i also want to say that we're going to do three of these episodes over the course of this week because it's part of our theme for twenty nineteen the kaiser report is going to step back a little bit and look at bigger pictures rather than chasing the headlines because you know when we travel a lot what i notice is that the cable news and that's the only time we watch the cable news and in america it's m s n b c fox and c.n.n. and they're hyper vague ventilating chickens they're just screaming and screaming about whatever outrageous tweet chunked sent that day or or whatever outrageous event happened that day but it all adds up to nothing because nobody ever steps
5:30 pm
back and looks at the big picture of all the headlines added up of course across days and weeks and months the sound and the fear sic defining nothing so with that i want to look at what i think are going to be some of the big themes in twenty nineteen some of them are a continuation on things that happened in two thousand and eighteen so for me i felt like the biggest story of twenty eighteen was also the most overlooked story of twenty eighteen and that's when germany actually or some german officials said. that they were going to start looking at and building an alternative to swift which is the global financial payments network which is based out of belgium but in fact the united states is the boss of it all so the united states therefore can pull any entire nation or individua.
