from drugs this year than were killed in the entire vietnam war in the last two years ice offices made two hundred sixty six thousand arrests of aliens with criminal records including those charged or convicted of one hundred thousand assaults thirty thousand sex crimes and four thousand violent killings over the years thousands of americans have been brutally killed by those who illegally entered our country and thousands more lives will be lost if we don't act right now this is a humanitarian crisis a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul last month twenty thousand migrant children who are illegally brought into the united states. it's a dramatic increase these children are used as human pawns by vicious coyote's and

a concrete wall this barrier is absolutely critical to border security it's also what our professionals at the border want and he'd. this is just commonsense the border wall would very quickly pay for itself the cost of illegal drugs exceeds five hundred billion dollars a year vastly more than the five point seven billion dollars we have requested from congress the wall will also be paid for indirectly by the great new trade deal we have made with mexico senator chuck schumer who you will be hearing from later tonight has repeatedly supported a physical barrier in the past along with many other democrats they change their mind only after i was elected president democrats in congress have refused to acknowledge the crisis and they have refused to provide our brave border agents

this is against the backdrop against the trump administration separating families at the southern border now when he wanted to have a detailed proposal of border security he said that it provided for technology detecting drugs and weapons from crossing requested agents extra agents and support personnel down there also humanitarian and medical assistance for the border regions also a change in laws from congress to try and change the loopholes so that it would be easier to process immigration the one thing that he saved in to last was the five point seven in spending for a physical barrier he did not actually talk about a wall he said a physical barrier in fact he demeanor and from the idea of a wall which is what he's been saying that he's one of this entire time he then followed with lots of statistics and claims that need to be fact checked before we can actually quote those. then he turned to the politics of it all and started

corporate base. has been very good especially for military contractors. although the stock market valuations are not as high now they reached record levels last fall so tensions middle of the tensions are great for trump and it's great for the military and. taking away resources from the military would diminish corporate support i believe to his. for his let's face it the campaign season has begun for twenty twenty so i think that was one of the he was fell short of that but it was very careful speech and. it was a very good speech actually from his point of view it was very well crafted in terms of staying away from hot button topics and not using those trigger words that

would offend the people who are not in his base but it was directed toward his base right now as you and i are chatting the democrats nancy pelosi and chuck schumer are having a rebuttal of sorts we have our people watching that right now and we will bring that in for their coverage but. he did pull politics at the end of it he did say that the only way out was for the democrats to pass a bill that included border security. has the president's speech created any way out of the stalemate with congress. actually that is why i thought it was a very good speech because i think it does open the news for at least reopening congress to some kind of negotiation he stayed away from talk. thing about a wall as you mentioned in fact now we're talking about a barrier and even there just short of mentioning the barrier he left to issue to border security which i'm sure is something that oh americans of all parties can

rally around after all let's not forget that there was support for some kind of barrier wall or fence from the democrats in the past i believe obama and even clinton i would have to factor this myself but i believe they once voted for some barriers of some kind so this really brings the argument back to the middle and a starting point or at least. coming to terms of coming back to congress well about . a conversation about this idea of border security though even the democrats even now currently chuck schumer an answer you have spoken about the need to have comprehensive immigration reform to have border security they just don't want this wall which is why we saw. shying away from that term in fact he even

if i'm not mistaken said not actually a wall but more of a high tech security fence. you know so the current propositions that are on the table. have not excluded homeland security and have not excluded immigration reform and protection from the border security so. i mean again this five point seven billion for the wall just seems to be the sticking point issue and it seems at this point all politics. well it always was politics in fact it's now five point seven billion this is the lowest number i've heard it used to be twenty billion and then it was seventeen billion and then back back and forth the numbers came in fact i believe mexico was supposed to have paid for this and now you heard and in a speech trump said that this will be paid for by mexico through the new us mexico canada trade agreement so there are all kinds of mechanisms and tricks being

used to. shall we say pass the buck and avoid that very glaring problem that the u.s. will have to pay for whatever barrier we're talking about so but he does i thought the speech was very effective because it does put the responsibility now at least especially in the eyes of trump's base or those who are not can who weren't convinced. it puts the democrats will have to come to terms and agree with the president that some kind of immigration reform is necessary and trump will be able to use this to his advantage in twenty twenty because he's made the democrats come to him. i believe even hillary clinton not a few months ago said that one of the biggest problems in europe right now causing populous politics and the right wing's the right wing parties to rise has been

illegal immigration so even democrats like hillary clinton are coming around to more to his they're there they are doing more coming around than he is to their part what about. some revisionist history though donald trump says the only way to end the shut down and in fact blamed the democrats for the shutdown on this idea of border security he again did not mention the wall but. in the past he said i will shut the government down unless i get funding for the wall and he would be happy to take ownership of it and now he's passing that blame on how much of this is fight or flight syndrome from the president playing to his base. well i think he's fighting and i think that the shutdown me have played more into his benefit than the democrats particularly in the way he crafted
