brakes if palin met with the region in parliament the big vote on her divorce still happens later this evening. a three month national debate meanwhile starts in france's president tries to take the hate tact of the best protest there. from russia into his could be forced to testify before congress democrats and yes the president is concealing information about his meetings. hello good evening welcome just on seven pm here in moscow you with r.t. international now we're going to start this hour too with an update on our breaking news this evening from kenya because the al qaeda linked terror group al-shabaab has claimed responsibility for an attack on a five star hotel and office complex in the country's capital nairobi at least
11:02 am
three people have reportedly been killed militants are holding some hostages inside the complex that's according to local media been citing police sources a gun fight. police and the silence is reportedly ongoing as officers try and regain control of this complex eyewitnesses describe scenes of carnage to as they saw four men charge into the building complex includes a hotel and office buildings where international companies like to. phone police. how do you get whatever it was just ever. so i went. up and i did go up and i was there.
11:03 am
now it is a historic day for british politics and the biggest one safer breaks it since the referendum back in twenty six states later this evening and pays will vote on prime minister may's e.u. divorce deal comes after days of intense debate in parliament. over these next twenty four hours give this deal the second year we see the divided government deliver abortion withdrawal deal with nothing more than a plague outline our future relationship with the e.u. will be when the history books are written people will look at the decision. during the past two years of bullets negotiations the prime minister has failed to listen . to say we should do this for the british people and get on with building
11:04 am
a brighter future for our country but still to. this day so that. the government is in disarray it's korea is a prime minister's deal is rejected tomorrow it's time for a general election it's time you got. well teresa mayes not just facing hostility from opposition parties it doesn't look like the prime minister's plan will even get much support within her own conservative party some of her m.p.'s have already made it clear that they will reject the plan whereas the vote draws closer protesters have been gathering outside the highs of parliament our correspondent and say talk is that. we are indeed outside the houses of parliament and here it's loud it's happened and no matter what side of the brads it depletes spectrum people are on they are ready for decision time which is going to be today
11:05 am
something that the u.k. has been waiting for for a very long time now over two and a half years and certainly something that's arguably seen as just a story she possibly the most important one after the june twenty sixth referendum because today is the day when members of parliament who represent the british people finally get to vote on something tangible this deal that the british prime minister bullied. this is the right step to take to move this process forward now in terms of what's happening here again like i said i'm absolutely shocked we have an area for the press over there i don't know if you're going to be able to see it because there are just so many people here it's absolutely packed with a sea of journalists have been following night for certainly at least the last weeks and with so much going on around we have people with signs that say leave means leave but certainly as well as you can see the flags in support of the

european union so it seems that as much as works it was a divisive issue for this country when the referendum first came about it certainly has been a very divisive issue for this entire time and of course. inside the parliament building the house of commons m.p.'s are carrying out the final hours of debate ahead of the meaningful vote taking place tonight which will determine which direction the u.k. moves forward after tonight. it seems that he will not be able to rely on european support contrary to some earlier reports the german government has denied german chancellor angela merkel will intervene if may's deal fails to get through the u.k. parliament however the german foreign minister did suggest the possibility of reopening negotiations let's talk more about this. economic case lancaster
11:07 am
university very welcome thanks for coming on a big night for british politics this evening just from your economics perspective why do you think so many people in parliament are against this through the maze put forward. well the deal splits into two components is the withdrawal agreement which is the legal documents over five hundred pages of legalese which addresses issues like the bill that the must pay on leaving the european union in order to cover things like the pensions of european civil servants that have been working for the u.k. as well as the rest of the of course for many years now so that is one component of it other component is the arrangements with the nor northern ireland border with the republic of ireland which has been very contentious another part of the withdrawal agreement relates to the treatment of e.u. citizens in the u.k. and of u.k. citizens within the european union after the u.k.
11:08 am
leaves the european union that's all the withdrawal agreement which is quite legal listing the second component to the political declaration is much more skeletal and that relates to the kind of relationship that the u.k. will have with the european union after it leaves and there's a lot more wiggle room in the political declaration than there is in the drawled arrangement is the political declaration itself is quite vague one interpretation of it is that we're aiming for the kind of relationship that mrs may has and that is one where for goods there's a kind of single market arrangement with the european union for services and other products then a much looser arrangement with the european union but equally the political declaration couldn't come for solutions such as the always plus where the u.k. stays within the customs union and the single market or again something much looser like just a canada style free trade agreement so the political get declaration is very vague
11:09 am
and quite contentious sure it's all very difficult isn't it to understand certainly for the layman listening to all the arguments you get bamboozled don't you with all the facts and figures but one thing to reason may does say is that this deal is far better than no deal at all and a hard break. again from your point of view do the figures stack up on that is is that a fair comment. hard brigs it if that means leaving without a deal on world trade organization terms would be extremely damaging economically for the u.k. what it would mean in effect would be that the european union would have to charge tariffs on anything that is exported from the u.k. to the european union it would also mean incidentally that there would be no transition period so we would crash out and these terrorists would be imposed from the end of march this year which would be a very sudden change
11:10 am
a cliff change for british business so that would certainly be very damaging how damaging or how damaging the deal the may espouse in would be would depend on its on its ultimate shape and because the political declaration is so vague we know very little about that ok really good till he thanks for talking simply about a complicated topic there was karen jones a professor of economics in a u.k. saying as the university thank you. now after months of violent protests across france present a menu macron is bidding to engage the nation in a move met with cynicism though by political foes the twelve week public consultation has now got underway to address the issues behind the yellow vests movement charlotte n.c. reports on how the initiative is going down with the public. we've seen the crowds as usual for justice i get a scope that's probably a few hundred feet two hundred fifty maybe three hundred fifty have come here and
11:11 am
every point in this roundabout they are being stopped by the security forces for moving one group actually made a run for it they ran up the road and it looks like they were attempting to enter. the town over bush to hold troy and get closer to the action president michael is here in the town today to launch that national debate these debates are to take place across france he's open to meeting to listen to the concerns of people people couldn't say what they concerns of the internet they can take part in the debates and he's saying that this could change the new contract with the people here in france but yes we've already seen the groups trying to to run off from the main crowd as a result of that security forces tightening the area here completely also deploying tear gas was sold out and pepper spray being used on some of the protesters who
11:12 am
have been trying to push the police we're going to turn around and you might also see that enforcement supreme protein including a water cannon down there hasn't been used so far but it is there overseas as a deterrent now the debates are going to be held in areas like the town halls we've been speaking to some of them as fronts to get their thoughts on this ground national debate rose. i met with the other vests in my area this time just saying they're just using benefits to doing nothing i've seen people who have no money to pay salaries of their employees me such people every day when. he's talking about the president's letter there are so many questions which marriage are supposed to give answers to will be very. difficult even if we started opening special locations to receive people should mirrors be doing that we have questions tens of miles before we even reach the outskirts to turn security forces all around
11:13 am
the pipes on the major junctions and when we try to enter the town we were told that because we didn't have a credit station for the actual event which is taking place in the town hall that we couldn't pass annoyed that with our cotton north we decided to walk in and actually we've been speaking some of the protesters here who say that only residents all of the town all being allowed in and some of those have actually been denied access if they move wearing the yellow vests for the moment there is anger and apathy with this idea of the yellow vests this yellow vest movement has been going on now since november seventeenth and at times we've seen some of the worst violence in moving half a century here in france as a result of that the government has given and offered many concessions but so far it doesn't seem to be enough for the core supporters of the ship visuals who still seem to have the support of the majority of french people when it comes to the
11:14 am
polls let's take a look though at the time line of events since this protest movement started back in november seventeenth. honestly this is the right one and we're not going to change it just because the wind is blowing. i will not concede anything to do see what destruction and disorder. i take my share of responsibility.
11:15 am
still to come this hour a former israeli army chief has admitted that television did ship weapons to militants in syria something that has been long denied until my but have a look at the details on that first get some live reaction to just awful. i would hope that you should continue. to put themselves on a lot. to get accepted or rejected. so when you want to be president. want to be rich. but you'd like to be closer this is what the. real big. industry is in the waters. there should.
11:16 am
be a. flow again the former head of the israel defense forces has for the first time acknowledged the country has supplied weapons to militants in syria something that was always denied middle east correspondent paula slater has moved into well this is the first time that an israeli military official has acknowledged that israel
11:17 am
has been providing aid to rebels fighting against the syrian president bashar assad and what we're hearing from god the eyes and cut through a stage of the beings are what has been until now a badly kept secret he says that israel has been supplying the rebels with light weapons for so-called self defense at the same time he also says that israel has been fighting in rainy and horses inside so. and he revealed some details of those operations in january twenty seventh seen would begin attacking the infrastructure of the iranians through a building in syria the critical mass was from when to seventeen would begin attacking systematically number of times each week without making any statements beneath the radar this comes as israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu continues to threaten the remaining ukrainian forces inside syria he says that they must get out fast and that is well won't stop attacking them earlier he denied that it is always arming rebel forces we do not interfere in this terribly bloody conflict we
11:18 am
do however provide humanitarian aid to young boys and girls it is expensive but we will continue to invest now these reports are nothing new in the sense that they have been rumors for quite some time back in september last journey i.d.f. the jerusalem post newspaper to take down an article in which it said that its war was providing weapons ammunition and cashed in syrian rebel groups at the same time towards the end of last year there were reports that a former israeli defense minister was meeting with syrian rebels earlier the wall street journal published an article in which it said israel was providing cash to rebel fighters across its northern border so this announcement certainly confirms that the rumors that have been circulating are in fact true. ok well for more on this now we're joined live by a defense and political commentator amir oren he's with us to save nic hello to you were amir thanks for coming on. there's been rumors out there for some time that
11:19 am
this was happening so no real surprise then that there's been some sort of official confirmation. well yes as you know the syrian civil war has been going on for almost eight years now and there have been several stages in it including the rise and then eventual fall of the state and each stage israel has reassessed its poli sci visa viewed the various groups the assad regime then the iranians and their proxies and yes it has changed its policy it started by giving medical and and treatment both at the border crossing and then at hospitals and also decided to arm several of the groups that were shifting alliances mostly in order to safeguard its own boundary syria along the golan heights but
11:20 am
also to prevent the territory adjacent to the golan heights falling into the hands of al qaida all over the state so what started out as humanitarian and soon enough became a tactical alliance between israel and indigenous actors in d.c. a little and as it stands to me it doesn't look like this is going to end anytime soon given more the israeli prime minister has said in his concerns about the iranian presence in syria. well you know in in the middle east losing face is sometimes more costly than losing essence on the ground which is why israel has either kept silent or denied outright.
11:21 am
regarding what it has been doing in order not to provoke the victims are the targets of those attacks into retaliation but now that the outgoing chief of staff or got the eyes in court has finished what is universally considered for a very good years and as prime minister netanyahu is approaching the april elections there summing up of doubt taking stock and they are talking about it it doesn't really mean that this ball the see when this is severally be continued this will be contingent on the iranians whether they are still going to stay in syria and restart their encroachment policy or whether they are going to silently get away from this particular sector and look for other places to form and drabble it's always difficult isn't it to predict what's going
11:22 am
to happen in syria but i mean given what you just said are you hopeful for some sort of peaceful resolution that you think the many factions involved will continue . to have some sort of conflict in syria for many years to come. well you know people in israel are indeed hopeful for some reason lucian off the conflict they resigned themselves to the continuation of the bashar assad regime in one form or another but they're also skeptical regarding the chances for survival off the syrian state system and they see something a longer federated switzerland of the middle east if you will some districts or provinces loosely tied together each another or center of

gravity depending on where they are close to turkey close to israel or close to iraq and jordan ok very good to get your thoughts on this we're going to have to leave it there that was a made all in defense and political commentator thank you thank you. for your stomach rats reportedly preparing subpoenas for donald trump's interpreters who worked on his meetings with vladimir putin is over concerns the american president is concealing nationally significant information if i had a choice i'd rather not do that with the with the interpreters but we may have no choice we'll have to see down down the road what happens but we want to get to the truth it does come after the washington post reported that trump went to extraordinary lengths to conceal the content of his meetings with the russian president allegedly confiscating the notes his interpreter had made other articles published we can suggest a trump might be a russian asset the us president was quick to respond. i never worked for russia
11:24 am
you know that is are better than anybody i never worked for russia not only did i never work for russia i think it's a disgrace that you even asked that question because it's all a big fat hoax that just dog or trump also lashed out at the media to you saying it's getting crazy every single day another big story at the weekend was the inquiry how you can buy the f.b.i. and whether trump was secretly working on behalf of russia the probably was reportedly initiated after complied f.b.i. chief james comey last year the president had this to say on that. so the people doing that it's best to gauge it for people that have been caught that are known scoundrels there i guess you could say that dirty cop so what you say should i have confidence in the f.b.i. or delegates agencies when i see or and i see all of these people when i see lisa and her lover and there's no sin there's sex to get captured and you see what they
11:25 am
said about me having nothing to do with investigation the election is next year so what the republicans other people are going to be asking is why don't you just wait and get him out the old fashioned way by beating him by coming up with somebody better than actually the asons of what this thing is because in this froth and in this frenetically this move to say impeach impeach i respect police him again i don't think anybody really understand what impeachment means. the american public is complete and totally tone deaf at this point by virtue of this incessant russian collusion russians buying russian does. the american public it doesn't make any sense and more we've heard a big cheer waited to it anything new any reversion of russian involvement the american public to have said that enough with this police give us a new country maybe make it chinese just to mix it up
11:26 am

and he has some really interesting things to say about this whole dynamic of the political. infrastructure here in america the political space this sort of tribalism and this comparing some groups of the mensheviks and some to the bolsheviks which which quite interesting so you should go check that out gonzo episode people love this gonzo series that we've got on our team now to match the stacy traveling across the country there's put a link to it right on the show they should add it to this show put a link to it on their show there you go that's good yeah do it and later on this week of kaiser reports i want to talk about what else and said because that fits into this whole political atmosphere here in america that plays into the economics because the politics and economics are very merged right now we talk mostly about financial markets and economics but there really intersecting right now and you know that's an interesting thing to look forward to but right now i want to.
