but i will note what they've done is they've just recently issued a memo to all of the u.k. companies all seeing them and telling them that because of the disruption with regard to trade that all of the european warehouses must receive any products that are going to be distributed throughout. europe those must be received by the european warehouses by march seventeenth then memo actually anticipates a no deal brock's it because you're always asking me is there going to be a deal is there not amazon doesn't think so hence the preparation plans they've made i think what's interesting and the only sort of bit of negative news is that most people think about fifty percent of all food products are imported into the u.k. but in terms of food shortages actually about eighty percent when you think of the ingredients that are actually the contents of a lot of things that are manufactured for example everybody was things of the the british in their tea well while a lot of the tea actual manufacture of teabags etc in the u.k. of course one hundred percent of tea is grown elsewhere carrots are another thing

actually carrots are grown and spain and carrots will be affected so you know the british maybe without their tea and their carrots. now i lost you for a minute on my my ear hilary but were you talking about sainsbury's and i was actually doing you also amazon's i was talking about what they were doing with the warehousing in europe and then all right ok well related to that when you when i lost you then i got your back with tea and it made me think about the fears of food shortages you know if bricks it goes off poorly you know we could see this be good in a notably impact maybe the same spirit start going on the shorter learn long term what do you think yes i just mentioned that the food shortages are eighty percent of all food products at least contents are imported laws of course then finalize the manufacture within the the u.k. what's interesting is that the supposedly freezer supplies are totally and utterly full throughout the u.k. h.s.b.c. has come out and said that they believe the food food choices are going to be worse

than had been predicted so a lot of just the products that are grown in europe now of course this won't be as bad in the some of because there's a lot of domestic growth particular food fruits and vegetables it will only be just a very short period between now maybe april but it will be maybe more dire. and just real quickly hillary what's the what do we expect coming up as this march twenty ninth deadline approaches march twenty ninth most people are predicting right now like amazon and that memo going out that there will be no deal it seems to be that nobody can agree which a no deal is not as dire as has been predicted i think there will be obviously h.s.b.c.'s put it to kimberly analysts to be more busy than anybody but their retail analysts have said that obviously there are going to be lori delays tray delays all trucks and audience truck and lori delays coming in from europe and vice versa so the food shortage is mainly really only of the fresh items that are imported from from europe. yeah bobi mark carney at the bank of england sure thinks

issue here is irony and hype and hysteria because in fact when these new statistics on orange juice just came out a few days ago i guess we're celebrating bart tropicana and minute maid because it will we actually get down to this study which we'll get to in a sack and what they saw was anywhere from three to twenty seven parts per billion in the orange juice the e.p.a. has set the limit at five hundred parts per billion for being completely healthy so even if they were to go hundreds of times more than they already are they would still be well within healthy range i think it's something like you'd have to drink about two hundred fifty thousand glasses of orange juice day at that rate to even begin to see any kind of effect whatsoever the study comes from a group called moms across america this group is not known for its finance part let's also but even if we were to take all of this together if we were to accept

that the other problem with this whole issue of hysteria is glyphosate is considered safe by the e.p.a. it's considered safe by the european union and yet it still continues continues to get headlines again and again and again the most recent example was a mega analysis that came out just a couple of weeks ago and it looked at all the studies being done so far each one a worst case scenario study and again even if we take it at face value what did they find they were looking at fifty thousand people who come into gailey contact with this pesticide daily contact and what they found is maybe in a worst case scenario for more people out of those fifty thousand high contact users might can. favorably be more at risk why is this part it's because there are such huge pots of money on each side bear agro science on one side and the idea of

possibly whole new field of agriculture opening up on the other side it's a money issue and we have to treat it with great skepticism. this is so interesting and i'm loving your your take because you know you're build big critic of foods and companies when they are doing no good clearly that california jury found that it was bad to the tune of something like two hundred sixty nine million dollars for that worker who worked with roundup but you're saying that look this is such an infinitesimal level that maybe consumers shouldn't be concerned unless you're just somebody who uses it directly and am i reading you right fred. absolutely and that has not stopped bear from making a round up with without the fifth state now that's for available for anybody but to get back to the case the original the original judgment was in the upwards of two hundred million dollars it has since been brought down to seventy eight million dollars and of course bear agro science is appealing it this is a wildly off the charts case of

a guy who is using vats and vats of this liquid the wrong way not following directions now it is also the case that bear agro science that bought monsanto last june for about sixty six billion dollars it is true that they are looking at about nine thousand two hundred pending cases so we have to watch this very closely but this has nothing to do or it's like apples and oranges in terms of what's actually making it into the food supply and why we should really treat these things with with skepticism we have to understand that on the one side there's another you have you know you have. agro science on the other side you have an increasingly hugely powerful organics industry that's dying for glyphosate to be outlawed it's so there is there are money to interest on both sides of this part. it's always about following the money while you've made me feel better about the orange juice i drank this morning and let me ask you one more question before we go fred there's

a whole debate about how fresh is fresh and i was looking at reading something over the weekend it really concerned me that some fresh food can be as much as thirty days old is this something you've covered either in your book or early looked at about what really is fresh for. suresh can mean anything by it my favorite example are of course bananas and bananas like are coming that generally from far away and all of the technology that has gone into keeping them on ripe ripening them with certain gases at certain temperatures at certain times so they all come to market when they're perfectly yellow there is a technology to fresh part and it's no you know the food as we know is now mediated by so many things other than the farmer and so we always have to keep that in mind into let's let's not be in a sense. i was noticing something that if you have fruit foods that need to be ripened fruit or vegetable you put a banana in a plastic bag with
