i wanted a new challenge and the fresh perspective i'm used to surprising. or not you. are. going to do. by the way what is it that. pakistan says. over disputed kashmir capturing two pilots as the nuclear rivals violence escalates. nine arrests at the world championships and thirty five athletes in a joint operation against what police say is a global network also ahead. one of the most anticipated some of the u.s. and north korean leaders try and make headway. in ending the decades long career
3:01 pm
ending. it's eleven o'clock here in moscow and you're watching altie international live from a studio with mina welcome to the program. there's been a dramatic escalation in tensions between india and pakistan india is demanding the return of a fighter pilot arrested by pakistan using it to violating the geneva convention by harming him by his than earlier released video of the pilot with blood and bruises to his face the pilot was captured after pakistan shot down an indian war plane this video which cannot be verified independently is said to show a downed engine twenty one fighter jet. claims it shot down two aircraft in its airspace over kashmir and that it to two pilots india says it's one plane and a single pilot artist and later close assess base the karen outlines the
3:02 pm
discrepancy between the two sides claims. but what we're absolutely sure we're seeing now is the culmination of tensions that have been building with more regularity in recent years and essentially things have now come to a head to the importance and consequence of how things play out from here is very significant not just because these are two very powerful countries but because they are nuclear armed enemies so if this does continue to spiral downwards this doesn't just impact the region this could have an effect on the whole world pakistan is claiming claiming to have shot down two indian air force jets and captured two pilots and says that it's jets have launched air strikes in the indian territory a move that they claimed was in self-defense. pakistan is a responsible country and we don't want to endanger lives of masses we have yet retaliated to india all being done is just what irresponsible country does for its defense our message use peace and not the war now india however claims that these
3:03 pm
those pakistani jets had been pushed back. this was supposed to do. and of course this part isn't. in the. course. of the hour. or that you do. in this ng. because unfortunately lost. is missing in action. because. he is in their custody this comes just one day after india claims it hit a militant training camp and killed a very large number of fighters from the militant group jayashri mohammed which took responsibility for that suicide bombing earlier this month which killed forty indian troops now in a bizarre twist pakistan rejected india's claim saying that indian fighters were confronted before they conducted those strikes on the training camp and actually
3:04 pm
just dropped four or five bombs in an empty field and then fled back across the border so what's making the situation all the more hard to follow is how the two sides have these conflicting media campaigns both sides are pushing their own narrative and so i was single source of contradictory information online and in the news but at the core of it what is very clear is what we're seeing is the first of the first the aerial attacks across that line of control across that delicate kashmir border since the two countries were at war in one thousand nine hundred seventy one now speaking in the past hour the pakistani prime minister imran khan has called for a responsible approach he said noting how both of them are nuclear powers they really couldn't afford a miscalculation. and there are so are you understand what i want to ask a question of the indian government that considering the nature of the weapons that both of us have is can we afford any miscalculation should we not think at this moment that if the situation escalates then where will it go it will not be in my
3:05 pm
control or narendra modi's control i will again tell you that a better sense should prevail now and we should resolve our issues by sitting together and through talks. the more. you love spikes in tensions over kashmir they have been up and down over the years and a fresh wave of violence really took hold in the summer of twenty sixteen but kashmir has always been contested territory even before india and pakistan won their independence from britain in one thousand nine hundred forty seven.
3:06 pm
is now a multi national appeal for both sides to show restraint and to conduct talks we've been getting reaction from experts on both sides hell here's some of what they told us. i'm from the pakistan air force but i would like to see peace in the region because both india and pakistan are nuclear veterans equipped and we do not one of this to escalate to have mutually assured destruction because that is what will happen it will not remain if therefore by the action it wouldn't definitely escalate into a full scale evolve it would be norms barred but you see india took an action yesterday and pakistan going to action today in retaliation and shut down the aircraft i'm hoping that we let it go our back and have you sit down and talk to each other and if india has actionable intelligence ah prime minister as
3:07 pm
a cure or even pig different action i don't know where there will be no other response from india because there was a response and this is like a counter response which is over as part of the pakistani body see that if there is an attack on there to read it will have to respond and seem to want to nuclear powers country and leaders notice to serve very high and we just can't afford a full fledged consciously so the hope is that change for the not spin out of control and mode of science was sort of kind of dead last of so to say and decided . let's murray distractor and look forward to some other means maybe we are going to do in the war my are a means maybe to a diplomat and you could create economic anon because there are no winners and the military don't know who are as we have seen so far. nine people have been arrested
3:08 pm
in a joint austrian german operation against the doping network at the nordic world championships here's our europe correspondent peter. on wednesday police carried out raids on sixteen addresses across germany and austria resulting in nine arrests linked to a blood doping scandal in the sport of nordic in cross-country skiing and what we understand is that five elite athletes are among those that have been arrested we know that two of those austrians two of those are a stone ians and one is from kazakstan we also understand that two others being named as cadets in the austrian police force who were also members of australia's national nordic curtains about blood doping in the sport that were made by this dirt the thirty one year old made his claims in a documentary aired here in germany back in january of this year he admitted to
3:09 pm
using e.p.o. in carrying out blood doping in fact when he was talking about the sport of nordic skiing he said it does not work without doping that's a direct quote from him but the austrian police say that these arrests are part of a long time and wide ranging investigation. based criminal group is strongly suspected of having carried out blood doping on elite athletes for years to increase their performance in national and international competitions and thereby to gain illegal income one of the athletes arrested in austria was well pretty much caught red handed according to the authorities your work record an athlete in action who was undergone a blood transfusion in his arm when the police arrived of the arrests that were made in germany one was a forty year old man described as a sports doctor by the austrian authorities have been far more forthcoming with information than their german counterparts the austrian saying that swelled this doping scandal that they believe they've been covered it could well extend beyond
3:10 pm
nordic in cross-country skiing and may well extend to other sports as well. the world anti doping agency wilder say they're paying keen attention to the news coming out of austria and germany and say that they're cooperating with the police now the reaction that we've heard from this well as you can imagine it's been coming in loud and clear how do you think the federal broadcasters are reacting now it was russia that iridium syria was continuously discredited by in terms of doping well or for as the lynchpin of doping. already in the studio have they finally learned adopting is not only part of cycling still i would like to see equal limits our rules him on all sports doping is rampant in sports but our biased media still obsessed with a cold word see that it's only russian athletes as they've been forced to never start in the program if you will about doping in cycling. live to ellis cashmore
3:11 pm
socially professor britain's aston university and former sports and media. electra thanks for coming on to the program alice now austin police there talking about a suspected global doping network how global do you think they mean well global needs international completely covering the world if they are to be believed this is not just confined to particular countries but practically every country in the world that participates at some level in sporting events so everywhere basically the interesting thing about this is that there's citing criminal network. and yet they're saying that the offense is blood doping blood doping is illegal but let me explain what it means the athletes go to high altitudes and train very intensely and then have blood extracted from their system
3:12 pm
and preserved the reason being is that when you train at altitude your blood becomes very rich or oxygenated and that's extremely useful for distance events anything involving insurance they come back down to whatever level the event is taking place and their blood their own blood mind you is really influenced into their body and that's what our correspondent was referring to when he said he was you know some guy was caught red handed undergoing a blood transfusion so that it isn't actually any drugs in the way we popularly understand involved in this it's the athletes are on blood no it could be that there has been a little bit of a misunderstand we're talking about here there is a synthesised version of holly's oxygenated blood started to get technical it's called e.p.o. and that might be what the criminal gangs are peddling around the world yeah
3:13 pm
because they're obviously when the optimum effect if they are indeed going to go down that road now if we look at this latest development what does it tell you about the standards in world class sport right now and this. the standards probably doesn't tell you that awful lot apart from the fact that most of the standards in well cost sport are supported by dope of one kind or another i think would be playing that game for the past two or three years a blame game that has been pointing the finger at russia and say that this is the source of all evils when it comes to doping in sport it all starts in russia and it ends in russia no else in the world is really involved on the kind of scale the russians been involved and now we have new evidence that hate going on a minute it's not just in russia this is happening elsewhere in europe and probably beyond europe the truth is that it's going on everywhere and iraq yeah i mean if we look obviously we're following you know all the the scandals that more associated
3:14 pm
with russia and the. accusations and the more those that were caught the russian athletes they they lost their and then pick titles will the punishments be handed out this time to think in the same way that moment all we know is that arrests have been made and that as a said earlier it's for blood doping i think we have to know more details but there are sure to be prosecutions i don't think anybody's going to start accusations that austria or germany are involved in state sponsored doping but we could say that the something rather more sinister force here because if there are these so-called international global criminal gangs who are at work then they could be supplying potentially anybody in the world illegally now in some countries the kind of dope that's use habitually by athletes is not illegal what is illegal is to deal in and maybe that's what they're going to pin on this particular gang ok professor ellis

cashmore from aston university and from the sports and intellect thanks and it's kind of the pleasure. landmark meetings been taking place between the u.s. president and the north korean leader in the vietnamese capital that took part in a photo corner with the body into a language coming in to some scrutiny. donald
3:16 pm
trump does is put his other hand on top that is dominance so he is asserting his dominance we see it when he's sitting down and he puts his hand in a downward steeple position that again is dominance it's that confidence but he's trying to pull it back and from what i'm seeing here is all those he is feeling dominant and naturally trying to dominate. he is also trying not to do it he's trying to make him comfortable i suspect it's a head of the main set of talks that are going to take place tomorrow the first round of talks and concluded a. sip sas has more on what's to come. this is president trump's second attempt at making peace with north korea the two leaders met briefly for the cameras and are now having close discussions behind closed doors the talks are made up of two rounds one formal dinner and one on one talks but before coming to vietnam prison trip was under severe pressure to make
3:17 pm
a deal at the summit that came after criticism from opposition back home that said not enough was made through the last summit between the two leaders in singapore but the first summit was a great success and i think this one hopefully will be equal or greater than the first we made a lot of progress and i think the biggest progress was our relationship is really a good one i think that your country has tremendous economic potential unbelievable unlimited and i think you will have a familiar future your country a great leader and i look forward to watching it happen and helping it to happen and we will help with that trumper to read it in a tweet that the potential for a deal is quote both countries to sign a piece the collaboration to symbolically end the korean war the conflict ended in the arms this not actually a peace treaty back in one nine hundred fifty three which means the war is technically still ongoing north korea would agree to return more the remains of troops who died in the korean war also the u.s.
3:18 pm
is considering to opening up diplomatic office in north korea. could show the relations between washington are actually getting warmer north korea will agree to stop producing nuclear materials. facility and perhaps on the other ones as well in exchange the u.s. will push to lift some of the sanctions on pyongyang and will pursue a joint economic project with south korea but again it's not clear what the deal exactly we can expect from this meeting but the summit does not actually only concern washington in pyongyang so let's actually have a little look and see what are the other regional neighbors feeling about it. despite the fact japan's also over a north korean test missiles flying over a. concern over. the outcome of the talks after all if a deal is struck it's unclear whether japan's concerns will be addressed what made the situation worse with the allegations that japanese prime minister abby officially requested for trump to be nominated for the nobel peace price in fact i think i can say this prime minister robbie of japan gave me the most beautiful.
3:19 pm
copy of the letter that he sent to the people. who give out a thing called the nobel price he said i have nominated you or respectfully in behalf of japan. i am asking them to give you the nobel peace prize that did not go over well for the opposition especially after prime minister's office refused to comment on the allegations abduction nuclear insult to mid range missile issues not to solved all i'm concerned that it would give the wrong message to north korea and the international community if we accept that the current situation deserves the nobel peace prize. south korean president named just like his ally in washington that has also said that he is expecting great things coming out of the summit. i expect it to be a turning point that advances complete to denuclearization of the korean peninsula new u.s. north korean relations and
3:20 pm
a peace regime on the korean peninsula president moon might come out as the biggest winner of these talks and in a way it seems that he's risking more than anyone else if these talks lead to a dead end after all it's this country that will be among the prime targets for the nuclear capable north korean missiles south korean foreign minister said his country is looking forward to a quote tangible and substantial results with all the hopes skepticism and fears involved coming to a specific results might turn out to be a very tough challenge for everyone involved in the situation but considering that the idea of i.q. west north korean summit started absolutely impossible just two years ago maybe there is still a chance for a happy conclusion. the u.s. military has carried out its first offensive cyber operation against russia so it has told the washington post. that access oversees to what they called a russian faction in the twenty thousand and ten elections morea across the story for us. what we basically have is a washington post article claiming that the u.s.
3:21 pm
military managed to block internet access to one russian group known as internet research age leave that this quote might be informed in the alleged interference in the country's presidential elections back in two thousand and sixteen washington post a site in a number of officials all of whom spoke to the paper on the condition of anonymity has also added in the article that that attack in two thousand and eighteen was just the beginning of what is supposed to be a massive cyber campaign against russia the operation merged the first muscle flexing by u.s. cyber command with intelligence from the national security agency under new authorities it was granted by president trump and congress last year to bolster offensive capabilities if it was true it simply shows how in secure a cyber wise russia can be interested enough they snooze came at the time when this
3:22 pm
topic is highly debated here in russia on all levels earlier in february russia's state duma adopted the first trading of a draft law on the situation when russia's unplugged by foreign companies by foreign forces from the global network many refer to this document as internet isolation and there are critics of course saying that this is just the government's attempt to put some control on online life but russian authorities keep saying that this is a measure to protect the country's security. i think this will bring huge damage to the u.s. so not only economic but also political damage but it is also but for the special services sitting there gathering all the information about you but they'll be afraid i suppose they will think a hundred times before doing something theoretically anything is possible so we should create such segments that would be dependent on anybody on wednesday following the washington post article claiming. that russia's darkest fears and
3:23 pm
concerns over internet security may already be a reality with russia's president spokesperson dmitri pissed off to comment on which the management of the world's internet is defacto carried out by several companies that potential threat led us to consider a sovereign internet it's not linked to the isolation or closure of a country it's connected to protection against illegal actions. one of the favorites to win this year is a mammoth multinational eurovision song contest has pulled out ukraine a struggle to find a replacement for the puppet is chosen entry after the singer ruth quit blaming political pressure and that was just the start of organizers troubles. in the time of aggression and hostilities of the russian federation against ukraine
