russia's foreign minister accuses the united states of treating latin american colony the comments come in response to washington's claims of moscow's military interference in venezuela. the un security council meets over the escalation on the gaza border where israeli tanks have gathered i.d.f. jets of also attacks palestinian territory in retaliation for rocket fire. it comes as the u.s. officially recognized this israeli sovereignty over the golan heights a disputed area on the border with syria moves immediately condemned by the u.n. and the arab league. despite no collusion between donald trump and russia by the reports media hysteria isn't dying down with outlets now blaming trump for
2:01 pm
making them suspicious in the first place. we're getting to you this is r.t. international. russia's foreign ministries accuse the united states of treating latin america like a colony the comments come in response to washington's claims of russian military interference in venezuela. more on this from our correspondent. good evening don what more do we know. well neal this weekend gave way to a big hype over russian military planes appearing in caracas they were carrying cargo and around one hundred military personnel from the russian federation now we've seen in russia the russian foreign ministry's explanation for their presence there now and they're suggesting that there was nothing illegal or clandestine about it saying that it was all within the bounds of international law and the
2:02 pm
military technical agreement they've had with the venezuelan government since two thousand and one now the move to send what moscow calls military advisors to venezuela sparked serious criticism from washington who is now pushing for regime change in the country now mike pompei on monday said that this move seriously increased tensions in the region while national security advisor john bolton said he would not tolerate any meddling from hostile military powers with the western hemisphere's shared goals of democracy prompting a prompt response from moscow. united states will not tolerate whole style foreign military powers meddling with the western hemisphere's shared goals of democracy security and the rule of law the venezuelan military must stand with the people of venezuela top u.s. representatives who failed to change the lawful regime in caracas partly thanks to russia's steadfast position and the maintenance of the international law claim that
2:03 pm
they won't tolerate interference from hostile foreign powers in the western hemisphere. this clearly demonstrates washington's approach to venezuela and all latin american governments who are practically denied suffering. now moscow also attacked the u.s. as foreign policy towards latin america saying that these their policies today are actually stuck in stark resemblance to their colonial policies from two hundred years ago where they also suggested that. that washington continues to view latin america as basically the countries the u.s. is back door now moscow also rejected criticism from the washington based organization of american states who said that russia actually broke venezuela's constitution by sending these troops and that they should have asked the self-proclaimed president of venezuela one who i don't know the leader of the opposition and the national assembly. the u.s.
2:04 pm
has once again decided to bring order to latin america starting with venezuela we regret that the organization of american states has aided washington in straightening its colonial habits as if unaware that any other country in the region getting touring full under u.s. pressure. this arrival of russian troops on these planes is definitely a game changer going forward. don't call it a report you know with the latest thank you. the u.n. security council is over the escalation tween israel and palestine i.d.f. tanks of lined up along the gaza border to fight egypt's attacked palestinian territory in response to alleged rocket fire tensions are rising amid washington's recognition of israeli sovereignty over syria's golan heights it's an issue that was raised by the security council meeting. yesterday president trump signed a proclamation recognizing the golan heights as israeli territory
2:05 pm
a decision of critical strategic and security importance to the state of israel. unilateral steps such as the recognition of israel as israeli sovereignty over the golan heights do not change the status of these territories which is determined by the thirteenth resolutions of the councils and those who are complicit in these crimes must not be spared sensor or accountability including as concerns the annexation attempts of jerusalem and the syrian golan exchange of fire comes as donald trump officially recognizes israeli sovereignty over the golan heights an area the un regards as being occupied syrian territory earlier artie's it is done of discuss this with my colleague nigeria today. well the international community has been somewhat pushed under the bus by this whole decision is the most vocal and this have been of course the arab countries the whole of arab league made public a joint statement condemning the decision really standing out
2:06 pm
a condemnation by saudi arabia for instance you know washington's bestie in the gulf so it kind of tells the scale of the fallout this this trumps decision has had to also has condemned the move russia voiced its concerns in regards to the stability of the middle east because moscow believes that such a decision by trump really undermines that also well syria of course it's a very it's their territories that's how the international community that's how the u.n. sees the golan heights is a syrian territory the u.s. policy on golan is reflected in the relevant resolutions of the security council and that policy has not changed year opinion in line with international law does not recognize israel's sovereignty over to territories occupied by israel since june one thousand nine hundred sixty seven including the golan heights and does not consider them to be part of israel's territory i suppose we need to understand what
2:07 pm
exactly is at stake in the current absolutely absolutely the golan heights is a strip of land on the border between syria and israel back in the eighty's in the course of a war it was occupied by israel and that is how it is classified internationally that's how un puts it that it is a syrian territory or by israel. joe the story that we who live in the occupied golan heights we dismissed the u.s.
2:08 pm
president's foolish recognition of the territory as israeli we want to tell him our fathers and grandfathers build their blood on this land and you don't have a right to do that yesterday it was jerusalem the day the golan heights and tomorrow it might be another syrian territory. true love's israel wants to give us something we should give what is to give not what belongs to someone else he has fifty one states he can give israel one or two of them but the golan heights are not his property they are not his to give away now not the entirety of the golan heights is de facto under the control of israel there's a small portion of it that is still under damascus is control and i was lucky enough to visit that back last year back in twenty eight scene and really was something of a turnaround moment i think for that part of the golan heights because when i went there it was me a weeks after the syrian army and the russian jets liberated that area from the
2:09 pm
control of i saw there were certain pockets of islamic state there like dane for instance we heard the opposing views obviously to chance decision from the international community what about israel though surely this is the best outcome that they could hope for indeed for israel it is the best outcome but i go out on a limb and say that i can name one person who's particularly happened that things are shaping out as the and that is the prime minister benjamin netanyahu because he's facing elections in a couple of weeks and in the run up to these elections he's been embroiled in a massive nasty corruption scandal now that he's thrown effectively he's thrown a bone to all those in israel sharing the nationalist ten. he not only has jerusalem recognized by the united states as the capital of israel but also you know as the golan heights. the united states in turn has doubled down on its decision over the golan heights despite widespread condemnation from the
2:10 pm
international community u.s. secretary of state pompei o insists that countries should accept realities on the ground. by that but not surprised i remember the jerusalem of our embassy as well in each case we're simply recognizing facts on the ground and the reality and doing the right thing we hope those nations will join us to understand how important it is how right it is. and we are continuing to have conversations with you mentioned a handful of countries with each of them about this issue about our decision and why we believe this is fundamentally the right of. if you remember president tom serving in his campaign for election criticize a previous alerts on policy if intervention in. people libya. in syria and all beyond which he can feel. what the. yes we are
2:11 pm
sending a message that international law is not respected in this area there will be more would instead be in the area because of this issue and you want flop live would you call it an op life and then when you get over an action film beloved was a killer is more from instability there you have believed the avs you have to blame yourself for what you are doing in the area. us republicans and democrats are trading blows over whether to release the full version of the mother report which found that there was no collusion between donald trump and russia republican house senators blocked a motion by by democrats to have every word published in mottram himself hinted that they'll be payback for those who spread allegations of collusion with russia allegations that were exposed as being false after a two year probe. there are a lot of people out there that have done some very very evil things very bad things i would say treasonous things against our country those people will certainly be
2:12 pm
looked at i've been looking at them for a long time and i'm saying why haven't they been looked at they lied to congress many of them you know who they are we can never ever let this happen to another president again. only a summary of robot news reports into collusion has been published so far democrats and parts of the media are now demanding to see the entire thing in the hope of still finding the president guilty kill him open explains. for two and a half years u.s. media has given lots of airtime to the infamous russia gate allegations an online media no less than t.v. one study showed over five hundred thirty thousand articles on trunk russia collusion allegations or the mole or probe have gone online since the probe was launched in two thousand and seventeen but now according to the report from special counsel robert muller it was all for nothing no collusion took place so why did the us media run so long with something that turned out to be
2:13 pm
a total red herring well some voices blame trump for it they say that it's his fault the media went with the story for so long why did donald trump and why did his administration and why did everybody close to him lie about contacts they had with russia throughout the course of the campaign why did he say that he believes putin over the intelligence community why did he talk about leaving nato things that put our national security at jeopardy why doesn't he release his tax returns some say that it's just a cover up that william barr the u.s. attorney general is protecting donald trump attorney general barr who addition for his role with an open memorandum suggesting that it was almost impossible for any president to commit obstruction of justice and seize the head of the executive branch made a decision about that evidence in under forty eight hours given ms the bars public record of bias against the special counsel's inquiry he's not
2:14 pm
a new true observer and is not in a position to make objective determinations about the report now some voices are saying that two years twenty five million dollars and three thousand subpoenas just aren't enough they say that if you keep looking you can find collusion because it's there because we say so trust in his prosecutorial judgment but that doesn't mean of course that there isn't compelling and incriminating to get into people's heads and indoctrinate them he's been saying no. solution no collusion no collusion he does this all the time this is not the end of anything now you might think that the media was to blame after all they kept this story in the headlines for so long examining every unproven rumor however certain voices are saying that they did nothing wrong and should be praised for their work i think we've done the media the press has done one of the great reporting jobs in the history especially of covering a presidency by the most news organizations some media outlets did so well they
2:15 pm
were honored with a pulitzer prize for. relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically further the nation's understanding of russian interference in the twenty sixteen transition team and his eventual administration from once told the media that apologizing can be a great thing when you're simply wrong whether or not they'll hear it is advice remains to be seen nobody wants to hear this but news that special prosecutor robert miller is headed home without issuing new challenges is a death blow for the reputation of the american news media nothing trump is accused of from now on by the press would be believed by huge chunks of the population ok if you missed some of his speaking live to a privacy activist to ask why new e.u. copyright legislation is being called a dark day for the internet that's coming up after the break.
2:16 pm
after the previous stage of my career was over everyone wondered what i was going to do next about different clubs on one hand it is logical to struggle from fields where everything is familiar on the other i wanted a new challenge and the fresh perspective i'm used to suppressing. or not if. i'm going to talk about football not be or else you can think i was going to do. by the way what is that that's like here. join me every thursday on the alex salmond show and i'll be speaking to guest of the world of politics or business i'm show business i'll see you then.
2:17 pm
come back the biggest backward step since the internet began one of the darkest hours that's how critics include whistleblower edward snowden and world wide web found this tim berners lee had been describing a new european laura internet copyright now the rules forced tech firms to moderate content before it's even published critics warn only the biggest companies such as facebook can pay for such huge moderation operations forcing all but the largest tech firms they say out of business giants will also have to pay for media content to someone that they'll simply stop posting media content altogether but each
2:18 pm
member still has to approve the legislation. more than five million people have already signed a petition against the moves and mass protests have been held there's also been a huge backlash of course online. details of soup and censorship on the grander scale biggest backward step since the internet began this is one of the darkest hours in the history a few years time we'll never forget the law based on the m.p.'s that submitted to them save your internet i mean complete disbelief you tell me that five million signatures and the protest didn't even make an impact so what happens now i'm livid over the use of copyright wrapper to insist that everything's fine. the adopted text contains numerous provisions that will guarantee v internet remains a space for free expression we listened to the concerns raised the meme the just the snippet are now more protected than ever before. well let's
2:19 pm
see what our guest privacy activist and technology expert bilby thinks about this. bill just outline for all of you is if you could one of the key concerns over this legislation. well there are two different sides to this first of all there are the owners of the copyrighted material and they're very concerned that for some time now their songs their video their pictures their journalism has been exploited by those on the internet without any form of payment and there are a number of media companies including many newspapers that are struggling for revenue right now on the other side obviously you have the the mass general public many of the consumer organizations and a number of the tech firms that all say that this is somewhat draconian but you need to realize that there's the truth lies somewhere in between and to a large extent is how these rules are implemented locally within the different
2:20 pm
countries and how much of a liberal or a decree draconian measure are taken and also you also need to understand the difficulty there is going to be being able to make this work effectively because there is so much content that goes on to the internet that you cannot do this manually you're going to have to automate the sort of checking of content before it is posted and right now that is not only fairly ineffective because a lot of the automated tools are not particularly good at spotting the different strain copyrighted anon copyrighted material but also you need a very large operation and that is going to exclude many of the smaller players now the as i understand the said it's doing this to protect freedom of. she's doing it in the interest of the people do you believe they're sincere. i think there are many people behind this legislation the torsen c.-a in their beliefs and they have gone to some effort to include provisions for means and snippets and whatever
2:21 pm
remains to be seen whether these provisions are adequate where the in-force mint is going to be overly burdensome and there are many many out there who are concerned that the burden not only on the organizations that have moderates and check the content but only individuals who are actually quite enjoyed this freedom in the past is far too great. would you agree with that criticism that a lot of these online platforms. problem is just not be able to cope with the demands of having to check all of the content before it goes on and that many even be put out of business. i think a sudden in the short term i'm not sure that the ai or the automated algorithms that are going to be checking the content are actually that effective you're able to have a digital fingerprint that you can assign to each piece of copyrighted video material and that can be checked to see if that material is posted but in order to be
2:22 pm
effective you need to have a really effective library of all those deep digital fingerprints and you need to be able to tell whether very minor adjustments have been made you also need to be able to tell whether somebody is actually providing something that is purely a parity and at this moment in time the automated tools simply aren't up to the job then you need to look at some of the smaller media companies out there that are going to have no hope of putting this sort of infrastructure in place and you start to worry that actually your closing the field to only the largest players who can afford to take these enormous measures. what do you think will be done about the fact that millions of people oppose this decision that been protesting they've been signing a petition we're talking about many millions it's only going to get bigger and they're concerned i think that it's getting to the point now we almost can't post anything on the internet without somebody claiming copyright of the material will they be listened to. ok i think you need to actually take some of the
2:23 pm
different claims on either side with a pinch of salt to say that no copyrighted material be able to be posted is possibly going a little bit too far because they have sought to put into place special provisions for means for the sort of parody that we mentioned however these restrictions will be if they are implemented in full really quite extensive obviously the different countries have a choice to some extent are going to how liberal or draconian they are in the not only the implementation but the enforcement and i suspect it's going to be very very difficult to take a particularly draconian approach especially if millions and millions of people actually defy the law and i think you're possibly going to see mass protests you're possibly going to see an enormous amount of defiance and real difficulties in actually applying the law on a very broad basis and therefore i don't think we're going to be able to see
2:24 pm
a full enforcement and there are many countries in europe that actually oppose its involvement and may actually be very liberal in the extreme in the way that they bring this forward. bill appreciate your views interesting take on this our guests this hour privacy activist technology expert bill me thank you. moving on french press the dimona micron's hosting his chinese counterpart in paris it's the last leg of xi jinping three nation european tour which has seen him stop of in italy and monaco on monday france and china fifteen multi billion euro deals asian will buy three hundred airbus planes for thirty billion euro china will also lift its embargo on french poultry exports imposed following it outbreak of bird flu in france artie's medina cochon of a reports from the french capital. china's president has been touring europe this past week his official visit to france has just ended and it seems it's went better
2:25 pm
than many expected both sides signed contracts worth billions of euros including a thirty billion euro air bus deal alone and right after the negotiations the french president aminu in mcallen called for a strong partnership both bruschetta cooperation is more beneficial than confrontation and we have more to gain from being open and closed the partnership between the e.u. and china must serve as an example of how to achieve tongil results another focus is the need to strengthen dogs in order to establish a shared vision of a future which would not sort of the words of the french president contradict rather noticeably what he said before when he called on his the european allies to stick to a more conciliatory approach towards china he even called it a systemic rival and warrant over china's growing influence in europe and we had a very important discussion about china in this european away from since the beginning of one mandate
2:26 pm
a call for genuine awareness of the defense of european sovereign don't do time of european i even see has ended. we've put ourselves in a situation where chinese investment has taken of a strategic assets and infrastructure i think that was a mistake china's president arrived to france from and city has another rather successful visit as agreed to become the first g seven nation to sign up to china's wrote and belt initiative which is a global infrastructure project it's a nice participation in that particular project provoked a lot of controversy among its western allies and the specially its partner on the other side of the atlantic the u.s. so while european countries where rather skeptical before the visit now it seems they've turned their opinions around towards china. this thing with the table about with the banks for you in half an hour.
