4:01 pm
watching on t.v. . with me welcome to the program after two years best occasion the four hundred page plus and heavily redacted report on russia collusion is finally in the public domain. reports from new york. well it's over four hundred pages of the bob muller report this is the report from special counsel robert lawler and it goes over allegations that russia somehow interfered in the twenty sixteen u.s. presidential elections and it investigates whether or not trump had a role in colluding or being part or being in contact with these alleged russian activities prior to the releasing of the report william barr the u.s. attorney general came forward and reiterated that the reported show that there was no collusion between trump and russia what trump has said from the beginning seems to have been the conclusion of the report that's the bottom line after nearly two
4:02 pm
years of investigation thousands of subpoenas hundreds of warrants and witness interviews the special counsel confirmed. that the russian government sponsored efforts to illegally interfere with the two thousand and sixteen presidential election but did not find that the trump campaign or other americans colluded in those efforts when he was giving his press conference a basically announcing that the report was pending we saw a us president donald trump speaking up on social media tweeting out graphics and such and now we've heard from u.s. president trump saying that this is a pretty good day for him and they're having a good day i'm having a good day to who's called. no collusion no obstruction now democratic leaders are taking a look at the report and seeing something quite different they are saying that the report shows that some obstruction may have taken place and they now want to hold the president accountable there are calls now for testimony from robert muller two
4:03 pm
congressional committees about the report itself and this is been the reaction of democratic leaders in congress the report concluded there was substantial evidence in quotes that president come up attempted to prevent an investigation into his campaign and his own kind of page seventy six page seventy eight page ninety page one fifty seven volume two. that is why i have formally requested the special counsel moeller. before the house judiciary committee as soon as possible so we can get some answers to these critical questions the first day william barr came out saying it didn't appear that miller hadn't found any evidence of collusion they said their next move i want to financial statements and all of his tax returns and getting his taxes making sure all of his finance statements tax returns everything else could be in their hands so they can continue to try to find something else wrong with trump i mean and that's it you know we saw within twenty four hours of fiat there was no collusion weeks before this entire reporting came out that their
4:04 pm
next move was already in play with demanding the tax returns not only that we also saw we have seen the arguments and well last night we had chuck schumer saying that well how dare william barr you know come out and speak before we get there is poor what kind of report would this be after that we're going to start hearing about how the redactions are the way a way to hide the real truth and it's really never going to end despite you know national security concerns and being legally allowed to do redactions that implicate national security issues for the u.s. we're going to continue to see one thing after another with trump but they went immediately from russia collusion to try on taxes trying financial statements and william bars obstruction so i mean the arguments haven't stopped yet they're not going to stop but we do have what seems to be a very conclusive case of absolutely no collusion and there i spoke to a senior correspondent on the details of the much anticipated report. the report itself i mean we heard about four hundred pages let me just show you what those
4:05 pm
four hundred pages many of them look like this is it's almost modern art this is how much was redacted from the report and you can go for pages and pages with nothing legible really there's so much redacted in this report that it is honestly very difficult to get a picture of what they were saying at certain points for example they seem convinced that there was russian meddling yet they say no collusion. the russian government interfered in the twenty sixteen presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion evidence of russian government operations began to surface in mi twenty sixteen in june the democratic national committee on its cyber response team publicly announced that russian hackers had compromised its computer network releases of hot materials hacks not public reporting soon attribute it to the russian government began that same month additional releases followed in july through the organization wiki leaks with further releases in october and november
4:06 pm
the investigation did not establish that members of the true campaign conspired all coordinated with the russian government in its election interference activities now the report makes many accusations many allegations about russian hacking it describes our russian military intelligence units and troll companies troll firms factories meddled in the election the problem is i went through the report the first sections detailing russian hacking there's almost no proof no evidence this is incredibly light on details and technical aspects pacific's it's just very very general the russians did this russian the russians did this take us at our word there's also contradictory information and certain points they say that to aliases that the russians use that parent lee d.c. leaks at another what the russian military intelligence officers communicated with
4:07 pm
each other apparently meaning delish over twitter which is very strange to think of this was the russian military intelligence director at the stand up and shouted to each other no not in this case. that the russians had all sorts of things nevertheless they also admit that they never actually got their hands physically on the d n c servers that hacked on. and where clinton's emails were leaked from which is very strange they say they got copies later on the f.b.i. there's all sorts of little snippets contradictory information that you know is worth picking out but it is impossible because so much is redacted it's page after page that is barely legible and the russian the russians have said largely the same thing the kremlin has said statement they're looking at the remulla report but they
4:08 pm
say there's no evidence is no proof there's no sort of information that they can address talk about it's all allegations in suspicion at certain points they say the russian hackers appear to have done something so even they aren't convinced the russians are saying what they've always said that there was no state sponsored meddling and their hands are clean of this and i had to repeat what i've said several times including in a personal contacts the russian state never has and never will interfere in internal american affairs nevertheless a number of russian companies have been targeted as legal action against them number of individuals as well a dozen military intelligence officers have been indicted. russia boom to give them up. if any way you look at it but. it is an interesting thing as well one specific company that there's legal action going against it isn't being told
4:09 pm
what the proof the evidence against me is because apparently that sensitive information is remarkable situation it's like accusing someone of a crime and then refusing to tell them what they did wrong and it's especially strange because they're apparently concerned that the russians will find out what the russians did it's a very strange but again it might be in the redacted sections that. we haven't seen that the public isn't being shown nevertheless there's a lot to get through and i'm sure they'll be more talked about i mean you know you talked about the confusion so despite the confusion the unanswered questions the redactions it is still a very comprehensive report isn't it was huge twenty five million dollars they spent putting this report together. fifty odd f.b.i. agents working for two years they looked at more than a million documents financial receipts e-mails invited you know stage two thousand
4:10 pm
five hundred interviews two thousand and eight hundred subpoenas thirty four indictments it was tremendously huge but they looked at three things one russian meddling which again they were incredibly light on the details they also looked at whether from colluded trump or any of his associates colluded with russia on that they were pretty categorical that there was no collusion something from preserve boasted about and the last thing they looked at is whether trump tried to obstruct justice by firing the former director of the f.b.i. when the investigation. in its infancy but here we've got a little bit of confusion because the report says that they haven't decided either way there's not enough evidence it's all very difficult. troubles taken this. as a victory says that there was no obstruction no collusion the house u.s.
4:11 pm
house democrat majority the house judiciary committee is now saying that this report condemns trump it says that there was obstruction promised to look into it never the less the reports been the release but i'm sure that there is plenty more drama plenty moodie the world to come. to step up its demand of germany to pay world war two reparations to the sum of nearly three hundred billion euro athens has long been seeking compensation for the nancy occupation but ben says that that has been settled our europe correspondent peter oliver has the details. europe could be set for the reopening of some painful historical wounds the greek parliament has asked germany for billions of euro for the nazi occupation of the country during world war two the demand for german war reparations is a historical and moral debt for us it will help us build
4:12 pm
a better future in our relations with germany today therefore we have a duty to give our two peoples the opportunity to close this chapter athens as next step is to send what's known as a verbal note to berlin that will be seen as the starting point for negotiations to kick off from now back in twenty sixteen agreed parliamentary committee put the figure that should pay is reparations it well at least two hundred and ninety billion euro that's as compensation for the deaths of tens of thousands of greeks at the hands of the nazis as well as the extortion of the bank of greece by hitler to finance his war machine however some greeks aren't confident that this appeal will lead to anything the germans are of the opinion that it has compensated the issue with the payment of one hundred sixty million dollars marks to the victims and the admission of about four hundred twenty thousand guest workers as far as the
4:13 pm
german government a constant that payment back in one nine hundred sixty of roughly around two hundred fifty million euro in today's money settled the matter once and for all. we are aware of the great guild the attitude of the federal government is unchanged the question of german reparations is settled legally and politically in the treaty which we unify germany in one thousand nine feet it's no for the reparations were planned for what the people the berlin and athens think should happen next. we have a very very big. responsibility to two world war two but how long are generations of generations having to pay for things that they didn't do as a country we have a responsibility to react now they should have come a little bit earlier now would still ate their broke and trying to see where they can get money. for that of course we should claim some things not
4:14 pm
only because many years have passed but because of german intolerance to step do you think we have governments that can claim in a sane i think there is no political will from any government to claim german respirations. germany looks after its own interests finance what are we looking after one of the darkest periods in european history still echoes today and ideas about what to do when it comes to reparations for wartime atrocities still displaced peter all over r.t. . a group of anti fracking protesters in australia have come up with a novel way to get their message across.
4:15 pm
need to listen to. what's in the water. this is what we mean this is how. critics say fracking has a huge impact on the environment including possible earthquakes because of the high pressure used to extract the oil and gas from right below it also increases the risk of all spills and pollution something that can lead to various health problems australia's northern territory and a moratorium on fracking back in september twenty sixth but that ban was lifted last year with the government investing over eight million australian dollars which is about six million u.s. dollars to accelerate the development of the industry they say it will create thousands of jobs and help. the country's economy environment has significant
4:16 pm
doubts about those claims. there's a whole range of respect is and that's one of the problems the us additional is really concerned about is it's the war that could be directly impacted in the short while this is fracking not only threaten their livelihood and their ability to drink water it also threatens their cultural knowledge and information and their cultural practices but the northern territory government is in pretty bad studies at the moment it's economy and so they're thinking that might be able to use this is a way to increase activity but the evidence would suggest other was the jobs question is really an interesting one because research had a coin and showed that for every ten jobs they created it was recognise free they lost twenty four jobs that were just received the area is some really big questions that need to be answered around those things as well as the environmental concerns . in this week's champions league football former
4:17 pm
manchester united boss. has being giving his breakdown of all the action including his views on the controversial video assistant referee the latest edition on the touchline as in a couple of hours here's a quick taste of what's ahead. get . off never seen again not cute yeah. i did. choose offsides no refereeing no lines women in the history of football disallowed that ball in the seat of consensus only the via is the controversy i think they got it right i think in the world cup final they got it wrong the view you have should be to take some pressure from the referee in the us
4:18 pm
to the keys they put in his hands a big decision i look also to the coaching perspective always it possible a champions league level so many mistakes together in the short in a short period of time so many mistakes come on they cannot feel pressure that's their level we are speaking about the best players in the world the best clubs in in the world a player that they absolutely love i think is phenomenal eriksson makes a mistake that he would never forget in his live q. for play against. in the way they want to play you have the risk that they're better than you i think until this moment nobody really i don't like the words piers but nobody really respect them all the teams in the semifinals they have the creativity here they have the score there but they have a top top class cent of the fender in the disc in the league. very very good here
4:19 pm
here here not here here here here not here feet mean or saw them on there they scored and they scored and they score it's also possible that you are going to say is this is not my football this is my football and this is the way i want my teams to play this season they are in the semifinals weed in my opinion fifty percent chances of being in the final i would say so we've got messi old city liverpool favorite i never say messi is the special one here because everything it does does all the time when messi has the ball one one one. you are. here working we do work i am still the members are. i have to do for them is the moment we've got to split you wouldn't be the butt of the moment.

a senior south african politician has been branded a racist for urging black voters not to waste their ballots on white candidates but the ruling a.n.c. party secretary general denies claims of racism. don't ever vote for a white person will never change the lives of black people they have oppressed us our main hope is the black vote the democratic alliance represents the white interest the elite on the privileged it comments have angered the party veteran to describe his remarks as inappropriate the government has been at pains of late to fight discrimination by launching a national action plan some background to this issue white people currently make up just one percent of south africa's population but only three quarters of private farmland that seen an increasing number of calls from the black community to redistribute the country's wealth we got reaction from a former anti apartheid activists and also from the leader of the black first land first party. i people are the beneficiaries of racism all of the way that there
4:21 pm
were liberal what i do even communists in south africa are white people benefited ecology to benefit thirty five thousand white families own eighty percent of the land they will not shed his lead with us they still maintain it up at that hold on the economy so why would we not have a blacks only look as asian fighting for black liberation why would any black person vote for what the man in that position who has the ability and his fingertips the ability to hope try and mend what's has happened that's not trying to do a dead just destroying even roll destroying it further and that is the saddest thing because that is not the opinion of the majority in this country i was interested during the party for having brought up two black children living in my home at a time when it wasn't allowed and i think if one feels strongly enough about on
4:22 pm
this country one trying to overcome everything you can to isolate it into watch and black you cannot do it. here opinion here is unhappy with facebook's latest efforts to prevent foreign interference in its upcoming parliamentary election brussels has written to the social media giant expressing concern that new advertising rules could affect cross border campaigning. facebook's policy would prevent european political actors from using facebook facebook messenger and instagram for the e.u. wide paid communication campaigns this policy would put you political actors at the same level as foreign entities who attempt to interfere in the e.u. elections facebook's new rules mean more rigorous checks are applied to advertisers it also imposes geographical limits and registration in a country where the odds are to be purchased which goes against the idea of power political campaigning facebook's justifying its actions saying is new policy
4:23 pm
safeguards against foreign interference. we weighed the different risks and concluded that the right solution to help best guard against foreign interference is to only allow people to run advertisement in country if they have passed an authorization process could mean there are a result in that same country the chairman of the u.k. based by a group a think tank says facebook has forgotten about its initial purpose i'll culls. this started because there were allegations that foreign parties were influencing. elections in other parts of the world now i think almost all of those allegations of been disproved what facebook have done is they've they've looked at the fact that there's been a huge uproar. the amount of data they've been collecting on their own users and
4:24 pm
rather than restricting themselves which is what they should have been doing they've restricted the users which seems an entirely wrong headed approach for small organizations and for individuals that just want to comment on the political discourse it's going to get harder and harder and harder so big players will be able to comply with the new regulations but smaller players won't and i think that's ultimately injurious to the platform injurious to debates and injurious to democracy that's not how it should be and facebook ultimately began as a peer to peer a grassroots network sensually and i think if it strays away from that and it just becomes another big corporation then something else will take its place the news for now i'll be back at the top of the hour with more updates but for now the ultimate penalty.
