it could have on business to meet her off of the boss capital the sort of thing. is earnings week and there's a lot of movement in the markets today commodity traders lend us a hand to break it all down. and finally how can the eradication of debt help tell your brain r t producer friendship board digs into all of that details directly ahead but first let's have some headlines. a battle in the courts over the twenty twenty united states census leads our global report today as the u.s. supreme court hears oral arguments from thirty states and local governments challenging commerce secretary wilbur ross his attempt to add a question to the citizenship to the two thousand and twenty census the justices ruling could reshape the count of people which determines many other economic fundamentals including the distribution of hundreds of billions of dollars in federal government spending critics including prominent voices and business point out that the new question would intimidate immigrant families who are already weary
7:31 pm
distorting the count and skewing distribution of federal resources david kenny the c.e.o. of nielsen corporation famous for measuring t.v. ratings wrote in the new york times a citizenship question will pollute a data set that is fundamental for businesses all over the country american businesses reliance on data cannot be overstated mr kenny's column cited four major groups representing advertisers among stakeholders alarmed about a flawed. the census happens once every ten years to collect data on the population and demographics and this is fundamental for economic policies it impacts critical decisions such as how the billions of federal dollars are allocated to states and localities over the next decade where to build a hospital place a bank it also affects decisions of businesses to where to open a restaurant build a factory here to break it all down is dimitri managing partner of bosh capital welcome. so let's start with the business angle on all of this. how do
7:32 pm
businesses use the census data to decide where to expand. thank you so the way that businesses use census data is just like they use any other data when they're when they're looking at for example if you want to open up a restaurant you're going to look at the demographics in that particular area to see well is the income demographic the right. range for you to open up your restaurant in a particular city or town so it's all about the fundamental data. those are already a fact that under so communities with a lack of expansion. so interesting enough when you're talking about the under-served communities there's a recent program called the opportunity zone program which came out just what two thousand and seventeen and that's actually based on census try so the way that they chose where an opportunity zone was was based on different census tracks that were
7:33 pm
low income demographics so absolutely the census directly impacts low income demographics and affect the businesses and all aspects of siding on how to spend on marketing at how to higher power their people where their labor force is coming from. so going back to the citizenship question this all started back in two thousand and seventeen when attorney general and jeff sessions requested that the census twenty twenty include a question on citizenship status where did this come from all of a sudden and what was the motive behind this. so you know from a business perspective. i think that's much more of a political question it could be politically motivated however. you know there used to be a citizenship question now of course there isn't so you know it could just be something that they're testing bringing back how that's going to impact businesses well we can only speculate at this point. so critics are now claiming that there are two
7:34 pm
big problems with asking census respondents about citizenship first is how the information could be used against them in the future and how it would impact the quality of us of the sentence itself tell us more. so i think when it comes to how it could impact illegal immigrants the question doesn't actually ask if someone is here illegally it just asks if somebody is a citizen or not and you could not be a citizen but be here legally on a visa for example at. being said how could it impact businesses well the argument currently is if someone is here illegally it could be disincentive for actually answering the census and that would of course impact. a lot of businesses because they would have faulty data but really it's speculation on either side right now how that would actually play out because people may answer the question
7:35 pm
people may choose to just not answer that one question or we could speculate on it in many different ways but that's pretty much it so how is commerce secretary spawning to all of these comments and critics against it. so you know the administration and. mr ross is going to answer just like the administration administration has a pretty firm stance on it they want to push it and politics is politics so they're going to answer the politics the way that they are and they're sticking to it saying that we want to understand who's here as a citizen who's here not as a citizen and it's actually a fair question. but the other side is saying well is that going to affect the data and is it going to affect the integrity of the data which may or may not it's definitely a concern. and i guess we all have to wait to see what the supreme court rules on
7:36 pm
this as the census bureau need absolutely needs an answer by june in order to actually get their census data collection started this summer on time. managing partner capital thank you so much for your time. thank you. masayoshi saw the founder of softbank lost over one hundred thirty million dollars when he sold his position and declined according to people familiar with the matter sunshine norma's position and decline came from his acquisition of fortress investment group in two thousand and seventeen where he inherited one hundred fifty million dollars worth of equipment from fortress it is unknown how big one was being priced during the time of these acquisition but if we assume the fortress had mark to market it near the completion of the acquisition in november december it would price decline near the record highs of twenty thousand sources say that sun

subsequently sold his coin piece in early two thousand and eight team when prices began to drop if you remember in january february march we had this constant selling pressure dampening on the market we're speculating that it came from mt gox is bankruptcy estate sales but now it looks like it could be attributed to sun sale as well this is a hefty loss for some but even the smartest investors make mistakes he is still runs the biggest venture capital firm in the world. becoming today is up almost five percent bring the rest of the space up with it the bulls are clearly in the driver's seat as the momentum slowly pushes the price up on accumulating volume traders are excited over this golden cross formation that formed as the fifty day cross the two hundred day for the first time since october twenty fifth seen excited but not hasty i'm excited too but i want to wait to see if the hold up to the end of this week for confirmation we want to see them are you can actually sustain this golden cross six thousand will be easy but breaking it will be hard to

our size overbought so if we close today with a red candle the odds of fall back down to five thousand will increase as it validates a bearish divergence of the r.s.i. . time now for a quick break but hang here because when we return. it's earnings week and there's a lot of movement in the markets today commodity traders can reign lend us a hand to break them all down and finally how can the eradication of debt help or tell your brain. but is there a branch of large takes into the details. and as we get a break here the number that the club.

there is another labor victory to report in the united states this time not in public education but in the grocery sector thirty one thousand workers at stop and shop initiated the largest private sector strike in a year almost two weeks ago forcing the closure of some locations of the north eastern grocery chain in ten days of work stoppage the strikers managed to get into the spotlight with visits from presidential candidates more importantly the strikers won concessions from the company pushing back attempted cuts to wages health care and pensions the new contract terms include a raise for all stop and shop workers a significant victory for the labor movement the united food and commercial workers union called the agreement a powerful victory and their members fight for good jobs affordable health care a better wage and to be treated right by the company they made exists x.

. turning from labor to housing the u.s. housing market is showing signs of weakness in the latest figures statistics from the national association of realtors for march showed a notably sharp four point nine percent month to month drop in existing home sales that result was worse than expected amongst most economists. on another angle the march twenty ninth figure showed a decline of five point four percent year over year rose points out that this is the thirteenth straight year over year decrease in monthly existing home sales which account for roughly ninety percent of home sales the lackluster performance of the u.s. housing market is persisting despite favorable structural factors including low mortgage rates and low inflation in housing costs and now lingering into the start of spring buying season. a fast rise and the burgeoning business of keeping the chinese cap unaided is planning to go public on wall street boom bust or than china

have likely seen at least one of the luckins coffee's nearly twenty four hundred locations starbucks in comparison has about thirty seven hundred stores in the middle kingdom but like it is gaining quickly and as the u.s. base rivals in china and part of its continuing scale up has filed for an i.p.o. under the listing l.k. this will be a part of their major arrival of announcing themselves in the united states like and also says that they plan to have a six thousand stores in china by the end of year two thousand and twenty three which will vault them past starbucks says current chinese store count. it's the busiest week of earnings with more than a hundred forty s.m.t. companies reporting loss last quarter a number of companies warned that trade tensions could weigh on their bottom line so this week the market is jittery with anticipation for first quarter results to get a sense of the health of u.s. companies boeing has had a rough time and they will be reporting tomorrow morning before market open
7:44 pm
expectations have been lowered and analysts are keen to know the company's forecasts and demand outlook after the seven thirty seven max crash earlier this month boeing said new orders for a seven thirty seven mag had already slowed before the second crash and that it has received no new orders for the plane since the second crash facebook is reporting wednesday after the close and amazon thursday and both thanks doc have high expectations to deliver here to help us on our stock around that is tina raine commodities trader hi tina. there kristie so let's start with twitter twitter is up over fifteen percent today after announcing q one revenues a seven hundred eighty seven million and their monetize of all active user base grew eleven percent year over year the market is clearly responding well to the earnings call tell us what twitter is doing right and what should we expect from them next. sure. the sticking point for twitter really is their user growth and normally they look at the monthly active users will now they're looking at what
7:45 pm
you reference what they have an eleven percent was the monetize a pool daily user base and what they mean by that are when their clients logon to twitter dot com directly or any of its applications where they can show their ads and this totally makes sense because that's where their revenue comes from now they're smart to change that metric and look at that because the monthly active users is actually higher variability and actually a year ago they were it's down two percent from a year ago so by looking at the new metric they can say that they're up to eleven percent that makes sense to me looking forward we should expect revenues to fall somewhere between seven hundred seventy million and eight hundred thirty million for the second quarter and one thing kristie i think also we should keep in mind is
7:46 pm
twitter is adding a lot of employees to address their abusive continent problem and i did hear them state that that would increase their cost by twenty percent so that will have an effect on their bottom line clearly that has not affected their bottom line as we see there don't really strong today they are guiding conservatively so we'll see what happens q to. let's look at coca-cola now coca-cola almost two percent on the day on decent numbers organic sales grew six percent as they continue to improve on their margins and now looks like they're also getting into the energy drink sector tell us more about that strategy. shore so coke is really putting itself as a consumer centric total beverage company. and their growth in the energy sector they're trying to target that market doesn't want added to and the extra. elements in their coke now this new drink the coca-cola energy
7:47 pm
is twice that will more than twice that caffeine normal coke has twenty four milligrams this new coke will have eighty milligrams and they're trying to hit the market that they're not currently serving and also the energy drinks are the fastest growing segment in this industry so this is a good strategy move on their part right now they're launching coca-cola energy in spain and hungary this month so we'll see where that takes us. continue on the food and beverage sector we heard that beyond meats plan to i.p.l. between one thousand and twenty one dollars per share in may giving it a one point two billion dollars valuation so there are plans based meat substitutes food company based out of california what do you make of this i.p.o. there hasn't been a lot of buzz over it but it certainly is on track and. absolutely i think they haven't had the exposure in the market that they need and it would really buddhism
7:48 pm
to keep building partnerships they have a partnership right now with burger king where they've created the impossible burger and they really need to reach more of the u.s. market and that's probably what might hold them back in this i.p.o. i think they're a little growth of in their numbers the meat substitute market is expected to grow globally from four point six billion in twenty eighteen to six point four billion in two thousand and twenty three and beyond me a project that the u.s. market will be it's thirty five billion i think that's a little bit aggressive in terms of what's to come in plant based me there is a lot of interest from the public from an environmental standpoint from a health standpoint is switching to plant based me but i think it will take some time and that growth is not going to come over night. the beyond me will continue
7:49 pm
to invest in innovative supply chain capabilities and manufacturing i think that's a really smart move on their part until the general public starts eating more plant based meat. i think i want to so interesting because it's so on track and this is a health concern globally so we'll see how their valuation comes out but i think we have to be a little more conservative here as it is not unlike the tech sector of multiples so let's take a look at hasbro real quick now they surprised us to the upside with strong profit and revenue this quarter most of this to their recent bumblebee movie that led to higher sales of the transformer toys break it down for us sure so it has hasbro's revenue from their franchise products transformers monopoly. who doesn't want played over that's where really the revenue growth has been strong and the box office success of bumblebee as you mentioned has really energized the buying of the
7:50 pm
transformers toys so this movie has come back around and it's a whole new generation of kids who want to buy these toys the families went out they saw the movie over christmas and the toys the revenue growth in those transformer toys was really popping in january and it carried through the first quarter this is really supported hasbro's growth for sure they've been struggling in terms of they were really down last year because of the bankruptcy of toys r us and they've really come back around a lot of that is due to these franchises transformers monopoly. commodity trader tina raine thank you so much for your time thank you and thanks for having me.

that's carrying less that help improve the function of your brain researchers at the national university a singapore's social service research center says it just might the study followed nearly two hundred low income people who had portions of their long running debts paid down by charity and the results were clear r.t.m. merica producer brenda barr joins us to break this down thank you so much so first of all tell us more about this study well there's really no surprises here if you think about it logically if you have less to worry about in the realm of debt and the future of your life you're going to be focused on more important things but making a month to month week to week or even day to day won't be the you know concern that you have every day so it also means that you don't have to focus on working constantly and we know that a lot of people have to work two three jobs to make it financially here in the united states specifically as you mentioned the national university of singapore research coggan the facts of these two hundred people before and after their debts

were paid down the recipients were tested for general anxiety disorders as well as the ability to make better financial decisions which is very important if we're going to pay off all of your debt to study found three points they first they tested cognitive function in general which is usually just an i.q. test when it comes to human beings and those fell to four percent error rates over the seventeen percent error rates initially when they test them before the debt was paid down. in the proportion of participants showing generalizing disorders went from seventy eight percent down to fifty three percent after that debt relief so i mean imagine that you're not feeling every single day you know on top of family kids and everything else you're not feeling so concerned about the money issues that you may have now the number. the peoples of color showing so-called present bias which favors gratify instant gratification think about the retail therapy we
7:53 pm
all know about retail therapy those dropped to thirty three percent from forty four percent a sign of improved improved impulse control and now one of the researchers who did the study actually had a quote here it says our study shows that because the debt impairs psychological functioning and decision making it would be extremely challenging for even the most motivated and talented people to escape poverty fascinating but i have any issues with the data collected is it skewed in any way what i mean there's no specific skew or any concern like that but you are looking at a small sample size in a secure in a research that was done you know around the world from here in the united states and like i said that small sample rate of just over two hundred people kind of causes an issue with that and so you have to be concerned as to whether that's really going to play or not and also not so many of us could be lucky enough to have a charity pay off our utility municipal and mortgage debt. how does that relate to
7:54 pm
americans that because as you know americans we had a lot of that when you look at the numbers here in the united states average the average american has a personal debt of thirty eight thousand and that goes throughout generations from millennial to boomers everybody is still carrying debt and most that is a good debt either you know like a mortgage is actually really good debt a lot of it comes from credit cards roughly twenty five percent americans also face one point five trillion in outstanding student loan debt which a recent study found that eighty six percent of those with student loan debt found it to be a major cause of stress again on the anxiety issue and over twenty percent of those people said that their student loan debt was the biggest form of stress that they have now we know that has been a hot button issue as presidential candidate loses with warren suggested a wealth tax that would leave quite a bit of student loan debt. from an economic angle less that means more money in the hands of consumers which is good for business it's good for the economy so you
