presidents putin and trump discuss their arrest in venezuela and a potential nuclear deal for north korea in an hour long phone call. this congresswoman says that washington is politics of blame for the symbol in venezuela a state that slams a commonsense discuss the. french interior minister is accused of lying to claiming made a protesters have attacked staff the paris hospital. facebook is accused of censorship banning prominent anti establishment figures from its platform branding the dangers.
5:01 pm
spoken by phone trying to find common ground on some key global issues including venezuela donald trump said the conversation with limited since had been positive conversation with limited since had been positive. had a very good talk with president putin probably over an hour and we talked about many things venezuela was one of the topics we're talking about a nuclear agreement where we make less and they make less and china is frankly also we discussed the possibility of a three way deal or sort of a two way deal. i've already spoken to them they very much would like to be a part of the deal so a long talk from the first but when you think of it and realize that it is the two leaders of two of the world's superpowers discussing the most pressing issues on
5:02 pm
the agenda well it doesn't sound like that long anymore so what did they talk about we do know that the talk was highly heavily dominated by the situation in venezuela and certainly a lot for the two leaders to discuss as personally it's not just two leaders but two geo political rivals in this sense because russia of course is supporting nicolas maduro the incumbent president saying that he is the legitimate ruler who was elected and washington supporting one y. deal and trying to oust nicolas maduro so obviously vladimir putin and donald trump try to look for common ground and we do know that they have agreed at least on one thing and that is if any transition of power was to take place in venezuela it should be very very peaceful soul no arms no interventions nothing of the sort it seems that. donald trump do see eye to eye on that also they discussed the situation in north korea and that is particularly interesting of putting put in
5:03 pm
context because vladimir putin did me to north korea's supreme leader kim jong just last week and we also know that. did somewhat to vent his frustration with the way washington chooses to do diplomacy with his country and vladimir putin apparently made something of a promise to pass those concerns to the american side of course no way of telling whether or not that was done during that phone conversation also the situation in ukraine got into the spotlight during the talk and world vitamin porton did make an emphasis of the minsk agreements it should be implemented that there should be more focus on how these agreements are. being implemented and it is of course something known as the minsk peace process and which is an internationally recognized and agreed on road map to restoring peace in ukraine to ending this bloody civil war
5:04 pm
that is basically tearing the country apart also the situation around the release of the model report could not be overlooked so the two leaders briefly discussed this but the key word is briefly as apparently they chose not to focus on that to have a leap now both washington and moscow have said that they are finding this phone conversation to be a very productive one and indeed it is a very interesting introduction to the upcoming meeting of the country's two top diplomats circular and america's might can pay or said to talk to each other as soon as next week in finland and so maybe something else will come out of today's phone conversation after those talks. meanwhile the u.s. role in venezuela is coming under scrutiny in washington democratic congresswoman maurice partially blamed u.s. policies for the devastation seen in the country that words didn't sit well with top officials. a lot of the policies that we have put in place has helped
5:05 pm
lead the devastation in venezuela particular bullying in the use of sanctions to eventually into the and. make change really does not help the people of countries like venezuela for a member of congress who frankly one who sits important national security committee to make a statement blaming america first in this way it's not only ignorant it's disgusting congresswoman doesn't know what she's talking about. when in january the u.s. imposed sanctions on venezuela's state oil firm according to washington the sanctions would freeze seven billion dollars worth of company assets and lead to losses of more than eleven billion dollars over the coming year the president trunk claims he's trying to help the venezuelan people. the brutal repression of the venezuelan people must stand and it must end soon people are starving they

have no food they have no water and this was once one of the wealthiest countries in the world so we wish them well we'll be there to help and we are there to help. and as well in president nicolas maduro claims that the opposition attempt to talk straight a coup this week military forces remain loyal to the president of hundreds of thousands of people marched in a show of support for people died in clashes between anti-government protesters and the police to discuss the ongoing crisis with political analyst for the korea the birth of. truth that with sanctions who who are software and write a country that that's that's interested in intervening in another country for the sake of men taining their geopolitical interests or the natural resources or controlling the natural resources and exercising pressure through sanctions put people under extreme stress however at the same time or maurice not mentioning of

the harm that mother or himself and here's a group of corrupt military officials has done to venice well i hear we have two groups i mean supported by two big powers that are really explaining the whole thing but not i mean no side can can can be at the center either you pretty fly american intervention or if you pretty face or you support the other the the other side. they did buy the region so you know a lot of maher is you know is showing that there is at the bishan also within the united states regarding the approach of the united states itself so the united states with its approach is also dividing of the country. france is interior minister is being branded a liar to reclaim and capitalists of the tank stand for the paris hospital during
5:08 pm
a may day rally that turned ugly but videos and eyewitness accounts of the incidences just they were actually taking cover from riot police firing tear gas reports. violence or may the first has been well documented in one of the most shocking stories that emerge from that violence with these allegations particularly by frances interior minister that actually some of the reuters and those protesters were trying to attack a hospital trying to attack the stalls and trying to enter into that hospital this particular hospital was actually a surgical intensive care unit and there was descriptions of the patients inside saying that they were in quite carry situation many of them were into baited someone ventilated and that the staff at whom rickly tried to fight off that attack of those protesters entering into the site this is what france's interior minister had to say about that event the. hospital was attacked its medical
5:09 pm
staff were attacked and the police officers sent to protect them was hurt unshakable faith in our security services they are the pride of the republic well that's his version of events but in a twist going on here social media has been flooded with videos showing exactly what happened on the ground in that hospital and actually what we've seen from those videos and social media some of which were actually taken by members of staff inside the hospital don't show what the interior minister said happened in fact what they show is that the c.r.s. the security forces with charging at protesters those protesters were fleeing from the security services and as such they were seeking refuge inside the hospital not just for that charge but also because of the tear gas that had been deployed in the area so a very different version of events and as such opposition politicians here in
5:10 pm
france have described christopher cast in a as being a liar and some of them have even called to his resignation. if it was a deliberate lie intended soley to do a jew to most in turn issues social movement then the interior minister should be fired without doing. kristoff. shamelessly and manipulated the press to spread these lies you know who's enough given the facts he has no choice but to resign well in other developments coming out of that may day protests in france it's also a message that this video showing the police officers actually picking up paving stones from the road and throwing that towards protesters now we know that this is a weapon of arsenal that the protesters have used for many months during the yellow vest protests and indeed on the may day but this is the first time in paris we've seen evidence of the police using what essentially is an sanctioned weapon against
5:11 pm
the protesters it begs the question whether the police are the ones who inciting the violence and instead of trying to control the situation they're actually poor ring oil on the fire in the meantime hospital staff has spoken to the media describing the moment when mayday protesters rushed into the facility. still a moment here in number of them startled us at first but very quickly they started to listen some try to calm them down it's a hospital calmed down they understood that we couldn't lead them and now when it comes to finding someone to blame we don't know there's nothing to say i think when you take part in a protest things always get a little bit out of hand and that's the weight is. on the physiology there were several of us we didn't see any black blocks we saw some yellow vests who are in a panic going in all directions there were about ten of them they went up the

do you not to rise disclosure i can no longer have full confidence in you as secretary of state for the fence and a minister in my cabinet and ask you to leave her majesty's government given williamson is calling for a criminal investigation into the leak in order to establish his innocence he's sworn on his kids' lives that he wasn't behind the leak there are now rumors in westminster that williamson could be out for revenge that he's got enough dirt on the prime minister to bring her down she's been working at the top level of cabinet the highest echelons of power for a few years now he was eventually brought into cabinet as defense secretary way he was rather outspoken and.

frankly russia should go away and should churchill. i'm sorry to hear things like that we want to thank you. for your very wrong business that. indeed we take a carrot and stick it right. personally i don't look like the stick. but it is amazing. cumbia cheese with a shot from carol you can see that gavin williamson wasn't without his quacks he was famous in parliament for keeping a pet tarantula named cronus on his desk and he has been posting rather a lot on social media in fact he's quite prolific keep posted since his sacking a photograph on instagram with his two pet dogs saying that it's been a really tough week but it's all ok when you get to come home to your pets i sense
5:15 pm
he's going to have a lot more time for them now he's now been replaced by the u.k.'s fast as a female defense secretary penny mordant she's a royal navy reservist and fun fact she once watched as a magician's assistant now looking at the die a local election results today and with greg that still dragging on and with williamson refusing to shut up and go away perhaps to reason may is hoping that some of pending mordant magic will rub off on her. the u.s. senate has voted to undo u.s. support for the saudi bombing is yemen we'll bring you the story of this after the break.

demented and delusional followers have been radicalized in many plated by cards facebook. and harris quiney chair of british think tank the bow group thinks the facebook is suppressing one side of the political debate and therefore the company should face regulation. they're reacting to. electrum results like it at the brits like the election of donald trump and it would appear that the field is a company that they want to put themselves on the side of the debate they need to be regulated as such as a as a political actor in the debate rather than a platform for free debate which i think it's now very clear they are not based look at very clearly putting themselves on one side of the political debate it is absolutely it could tell them to free speech because they're saying these individuals are dangerous well many people like by still see them as perfectly reasonable actors in a political debate stay have huge following across

to the world that the decision made here was a political one though you said there were aspects of the hearings that i did not like for example the difference in time allocated we were granted just fifteen minutes to talk with the prosecutors spoke for almost one hour and fifteen minutes more critically some of our arguments were dismissed by the judges. you know the science of self is in a british prison after being sentenced to fifty weeks behind bars for breaking bail terms it's also awaiting trial over a request reason extradition to the u.s. where he's wanted for allegedly conspiring to hack into classified government files sas told a london court thursday he wouldn't surrender voluntarily to the americans and to his lawyer lover who is also accused of hacking into u.s. government computers believes that science will have a huge battle ahead. i think he's going to have an uphill struggle everyone has an

uphill struggle under us actually this request because it's a very unbalanced treaty so the u.s. doesn't have to provide any evidence they just have to have their paperwork in order the presumption is a view only towards extradition if we manage to win there's a lot of campaigning and a lot of support political support from the m.p.'s and support from journalist she is going to have a harder time because he's already out of this politically he's upset the establishment in the u.k. the establishment i would say is complicit in his persecution and we need to do everything we can as members of the public and supporters of this list of people involved in journalism to ensure that we do you know i allow the injustice and isolation in the. united states is expected to continue its support for the saudi military intervention in yemen the senate's failed to overturn president trumps a veto of a house resolution on ending washington's involvement in the war saudi arabia is a despotic dictatorship that works over time to

normal people the truth about america's disappearing jobs and why universal basic income is our future there's a lot to unpack in that title alone let's get started as andrew joins me from new york andrew welcome to the program. thanks for having me matthew it's a pleasure to be here and all the best to tell larry in his recovery i felt terrible when i heard the news thank you thank you so much let's jump right in how come you want to be president. on running for president to help us get through the greatest economic and technological transformation in our nation's history donald trump is our president today because we'd automated away four million manufacturing jobs in michigan ohio pennsylvania wisconsin missouri and iowa all the states the swing states needed to win and my friends and tell acknowledging in silicon valley no that what we did to manufacturing jobs we are now going to do to retail jobs call center jobs fast food jobs truck driving jobs and on and on through the

economy so i'm running for president to let america know it is not immigrants that are causing these problems it is technology and the evolution of our economy and then we need to advance in our own understanding of our place in the economy which should be at the center and that's why i'm proposing a universal basic income of one thousand dollars per month per adult so i want to get into the universal basic income but first trump and his cabinet are always boasting about the job numbers how manufacturing jobs are increasing in his administration is this not true is he skewing the numbers. well it is interesting if you flash back to two thousand and sixteen donald trump was always talking about how bogus the unemployment numbers were and now that he's president he's singing a very different tune our labor force participation rate right now is where together is sixty three percent the same levels as close to rican ecuadoran close to a multi decade low and almost one in five prime working age american men has now worked in a year and this is despite record high g.d.p.
5:30 pm
and really rosy looking headline unemployment numbers but if you dig a little deeper unfortunately the disarray in the distress is still there so what were all these workers what are they doing they're not engaged in the workforce what you're saying is that they're just not looking for work at all and so that's why they're not being counted. yeah that's right if american stops looking for work they're no longer considered in the labor force or unemployed and this is what happened to literally hundreds of thousands of displaced manufacturing workers in the midwest in the south when we automated away those four million jobs almost half of those workers left the workforce and never worked again and of that group about half fall for disability so that's what's happening to many many americans around the country fully twenty percent of working age adults are on disability in some parts of the country so are they actually on disability did they get injured on the job or is this are these some of these mental health issues that are coming about as a result of not being able to find meaningful work well it's it's great that you ask
