the latest information says that the fire destroyed the entire back half of the plane now that was an aeroflot flight suit twenty three nineteen it was a sukhoi superjet one hundred and it taking off from share meant to the airport in the russian capital and was heading for months and deported from moscow at five fifty pm local time however it was forced to turn back after a fire alert went off on board it was said to have lost radio contact with the air traffic controllers and made a landing with no communications picture so far engulfing the aircraft on the ground and a huge plume of smoke black smoke rising into the air now of course we're told that the landing was more sluggish and it was. made possible second attempt we're told

that that was mostly due to the poor weather in the mosque out in the capital of course it's been raining on and off throughout the day. as we mentioned that it was an air afloat flights and at this point there's been no comment from the company at this point we do only have the information that ten people were injured there are also reports that one person has been killed but that has not been officially confirmed russian emergency ministry has confirmed actually at this point that six people were injured in the plane fire and that is the latest information that we have at this point. and as you can see this is from a distance we see the blacks smoke. plumes go up into the emergency services very quickly on the scene and what was interesting i think you know this is clearly a disaster unfolding when you see the flames on the plane as it landed just how

quickly still those emergency exit chutes were open and how quickly people go off the off the plane these are live pictures now from new shipments of ports. and see vehicles ambulances on their way to the scene and well i don't want to state the obvious but from anyone who's seen those pictures of the landing of the of the smoke we're dealing with the incident other than there's any doubt about it and the use of the flames and gophering the bark off of the plane at this point we do have reports that it was actually a lightning strike that hit the plane and that may be the cause of the fire those are simply reports at this point in time nothing has been confirmed of course officials have already been sent to the site and investigation will of course already be started at this point in time we do understand that the entire back half of the plane was destroyed by this fire now the latest information coming in just now is confirming. one person was dead and has been killed in this fire and four

more were injured. at the moment because you know when you fly you know there's always that little voice in the back of your head saying you know is there any danger but you look at the statistics you think ok we're going to be ok one of the safest modes of transportation certainly safer than being in the car i think the last thing anybody ever expects is something like a lightning strike and yet i would say that it is quite possible that that report even just before i set off to come to work today someone said to me there's going to be lightning they say evening very heavy rain on and off throughout the day the weather's been far from great. i mean it's just kind of heartbreaking information coming through in the pictures are quite difficult to watch must warn you we are showing these pictures on and off of the playing completely the back of the plane completely engulfed in flames as it lands so please be warned you may find these images upsetting this is the same as the latest pitches from sheremetyevo airport.

everyone's running in terms of the emergency services to try and help everybody was on board that plane it was because in chaos of course planes were further were being rerouted to ports in moscow including. the and even that nobody would have been expecting there but of course they're all trying to be quick to deal with these kind of disasters and hopefully that will help to keep the damage to the minimum possible passengers at the airports a cloud of black smoke rising into the air from the runway.

but obviously all going to change. this is one of the i mean over the years you know while we're working in news jack you see incidents like this. plane crashes the disasters happen there are so many hundreds of thousands of flights in the air on any one day this is one of the worst incidents i've seen the condition of the plane as it landed the back off of it completely engulfed. in flames and spilled it's just it's just amazing that so many people that we did see get off the plane did so quickly those emergency chutes were opened the stuff the training really kicking in so many people certainly those on the front of the plane were able to run to safety but fear that the news is not going to be getting any bits of from here on the well a correspondent from our sister channel r.t. spanish was at sheremetyevo airport and saw the burning plane. this is what he told

us. in we were on board our plane sheremetyevo airport we were flying to helsinki although our flight has now been cancelled we're sitting really close to the plane which is completely on fire the flames are huge it's very difficult for the emergency services to tackle the blaze they told us that the airports closed no planes are leaving all arriving we're waiting for more information and maybe we'll be evacuated. ok that was an r.t. spanish correspondent who was at sheremetyevo which it has been unsettling will have been extremely scary for everybody involved at the airport hoping to travel that day the. plans well there have certainly been delayed lengthily and it will be terrifying for everyone because of course when an incident like this happens is very little information people won't know what's going on but they'll know that something not good is happening and as we see if you close by it's obviously emergency services for being in there now we see one of the ambulances departing

just mentioned you will know a lot more about this than i do but this is a time of holidays in a lot of people are traveling a lot of people taking the families where there are so many people traveling to and from moscow at the moment so all of the actually people traveling all over russia we are in a so-called day may holiday period so many russians are returning from their easter holidays and many russians are a traveling to see their families to see their loved ones and certainly there are quite a lot of concerned people out there at the moment wondering if any of those seventy eight people that were board are actually there are so far we do know that one person had been declared dead as a result of this incident and four people are injured and we are getting reports that indeed it was it could have been a lightning strike that caused the fire. on the airplane this is yet

to be confirmed though we do know that the tail end of the plane had burnt out completely. i was seeing live pictures now and if you look at the skies there the weather looks pretty good but i can tell you certainly hasn't been a lot right across moscow today very dark skies but on and off a very heavy rain certainly there were reports that thunder and lightning was expected it would have been somewhere around moscow the moscow region. talking about the holidays this is an internal flight going to moralize it's surprisingly low number of people on board was just to me that this is one of the smaller models that we have that around eight people on board and one would imagine these were people going on holiday possibly family trips to see relatives it's on business what people go to be it is a major holiday this if you look at the number of people taking shots at this time of year the prices of tickets they really broke it because so many people taking

advantage of this period off work to go and see the families be together and enjoy the holiday exactly well there are two such ship periods in a rush calendar year zero the first one is of course the winter holidays or a lot of people travel the second one is of course the easter holidays when people visit their loved ones all over the place a lot of people go to their country houses for maybe barbecue if you will and of course a lot of people who are flying this particular make up the plane sukhoi superjet well he carries a maximum of ninety eight passengers so the plane was near to full as we know there are five. members of the crew on board and looks like they have evacuated everybody after this incident and one person had indeed lost their life. in terms of the weather you were saying earlier well i was i was traveling all. in moscow today for for work and you so happened.

we were all caught in the rain one point it was sunny and hot is in a different part of moscow so the weather is really changing a lot so as they say right now it could have been a lightning strike a lightning bolt that caused the fire in the airplane it does seem very likely however that it is yet to be confirmed and right now russia's investigative committee have launched have launched a criminal investigation into this incident and i guess we'll find out soon enough or what was actually the cause of that incident as you say this is you know one of the major holidays in the calendar lots of people take advantage and clearly some of our colleagues and indeed one of our correspondents was at the airport correspond to channel two spanish was at sheremetyevo and actually witnessed the burning plane this is what he told us. was in you were on board

we're getting updates on that every minute let's just bring our viewers some information about the plane. you know we mentioned it was roughly eighty people on board not not one of the bigger models is an s s j one hundred sukhoi superjet so that's a short to medium hole passenger plane as we know this was a flights within the country now this model was money should last year it can carry up to ninety eight passengers range up to four thousand six hundred kilometers one hundred ninety six. securely in service with various lines. and this airplane had. another accident with this airplane was a record back in twenty twelve when it was taking a demonstration flights in one of the countries where this plane was supposed to get sold and if i'm not mistaken forty five people died in that demonstration

flight but we'll get more information on that pretty soon right now ambulances are rushing over there already are at the scene at the sheremetyevo airport the biggest airport here international airport here in moscow. and russian investigative committee had already launched a criminal investigation into the that has taken place here in moscow and it looks like we are not getting any more obviates as to the injured people there or we're not getting any more reports of any more victims so perhaps we're done with that number neal at the moment but once again the situation is developing. and we should be getting a new information very soon right now we're looking at the scene and the sure made your airport you can see the passengers. those people have probably witnessed.

also don't know reports of a lightning strike who clearly was major trouble on board the force this plane to turn around very shortly after it took off and return back to share a minute but within a matter of minutes. before we get to some witness accounts from the scene. i'm also getting information that seems of psychologists have been the sense who the sure match of all international airports and the we're also getting our breaking news that the head of the russian ministry of transport mr dietrich had. is now on his way. to assure him as your airport where the incident took place but so we know for a fact that there were seventy eight people on board. and we also know all that psychologists are on their way both to the. international airport and to share

a major international incident we just to explain what our viewers are seeing now these are live pictures. and this is the scene obviously flights that these people heading out on holidays are being diverted else where you know it looks like some of them looked down not sure meant to at port flights that were coming into being diverted elsewhere. flights that were going out they're going to be delayed. really difficult and one of most major transport hubs and it's going to be a long and difficult day for everybody here not boarded any of the several terminals because even if you were far away from that flight you've been impacted by it in some way shape or form today i can't even imagine how that people are bad . on a plane how they feel after having witnessed something like this i mean i myself i fly quite a lot so you know with our job being a correspondence and every time i sit on that plane i am just horrified

as because you know working in this in this field you kind of see this things quite often and working them better is airline airports tragedy is certainly something to you but people who don't fly very often and this some people perhaps came to the airport for the first time in their lives and this is what they have seen certainly very difficult and the work of psychologists who are working at the airports right now is going to be paramount is going to be very important at least in my to you to let you know you personally experience is and i think it's important to talk about these things because you know we're regular people in this it impacts everybody who some way shape or form if you don't. perform if you don't fly very often you can be a very nervous fly you might turn up today to go on holiday in the first flight you have taken you can very easily be nervous but like you said people who actually fly a lot of not so many people who fly a lot because of their work become more nervous the more they fly the more nervous

they become one of those person people right now the more a flight the more i'm afraid to fly and i'm sure that everybody knows someone who i was just mentioning earlier my wife for not one of the many people taking a short holiday taking advantage of these days off and she's become an incredibly nervous flier point. i have to hold hands now every takeoff i mean she's terrified and. sometimes the stewardesses have to come and help calm down and i hope she's not watching this because she's going to fly back in a few days notice so many people in a similar situation now will be thinking oh i've got this holiday coming up what am i going to do and it's human nature isn't it we know it's you know extremely safe travel much safer than if you probably were just crossing the road or taking a taxi the pitches are so powerful. horrific in this case to watch what is unfolded at sheremetyevo airport. can only hope that the emergency
