was a sudden onset of well trigger fingers because this weekend we saw both u.s. national security adviser john bolton and u.s. secretary of state mike pump aoe put their allergy to peace and common sense on display as they bang the drums for war with both iran and venezuela mr bolton declared to reporters on sunday evening that the u.s. is deploying the u.s.s. abraham lincoln carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the middle east in order to quote send a clear and unmistakable message to the iranian regime that any attack on united states interests or on those of our allies will be met with unrelenting force. relenting force you say as opposed to golly gee whiz relenting force we normally reserved for helping allies meanwhile over in the state department could be a was rattling the saber over venezuela's refusal to allow the united states to decide its leader when asked about his recent visit to the pentagon on friday pump
10:31 am
a zero told a.b.c. news chief white house correspondent jonathan karl that he was there to quote make sure that the president has a full scale set of options diplomatic options political options options with our allies and then ultimately a set of options that would involve the use of the u.s. military we're preparing those for him so that when the situation arises we're not flatfooted. when he says not if that's an interesting choice of words there mikey but is there any weight behind these w w e stop political promos for war or is this nothing more than sunday talk show bravado by the resident chicken hawks of capitol hill let's find out as we start watching the hawks. this week. as part of. what they like that i got.
10:32 am
well remember watching the horse i robot and i'm so. i get scared when. it comes to going to but i'm going to go to his brother room i mean i'm just sick of seeing him quite frankly like he's ben in the political process here for too long and he's accomplished very little aside from making himself look really terrible and out of to. one of the things i think has to be said about bolton and this whole thing and we've watched you know we watch c.n.n. and i must have big c. and fox news and everybody just obsess over this like are we going to war with iran all these things here's was interesting so we have foreign policy analysts and international observers who have correctly pointed out something a little bit interesting about this whole were sending strike force says the
10:33 am
lincoln strike groups deployment to a rand was already announced the like a month before we went on their. sunday evening more. and nobody can say what exactly the actions are that would have prompted this this whole you know whatever is referring to we can't say what it's for and they were already on their way there it's scheduled maintenance it's literally it's scheduled maintenance and then they go back into their normal deployment it's not new they were moved there for a specific reason it was literally just what it was already there and he just used to make it seem as if it were something that was happened earlier with north korea remember you know about last year so c.n.n. quoted on they have the officials always helpful on monday saying there were specific and credible targets so doing the work of the trumpet ministration specifically mr bolton. it seems that they were targeting u.s.
10:34 am
forces in syria and iraq and at sea and on land and there was a lamp and i don't know it out by the way this is the same c.n.n. who who had to corrupt a little bit our reporting earlier when they incorrectly said that following elections in january that voters chose opposition why go over majority for president was interesting they just invented an election that never happened they realized it was never part of an election that's not actually what happened so somebody there and it's up to reporters to write that to reporters didn't notice such a massive error in reporting i just move it was i went on air forces again yeah i don't even talk about anonymous sources. the sources. it's interesting because speaking of venezuela that leads right into the over the weekend doing essentially kind of the same thing the. bolton did of just kind of this idea of war hawking going well military use could be on the table it is on the table relieving that
10:35 am
option open you know one pump i was asked to present believed you had authority to attack venezuela without the expressed approval of congress quote i don't want to speak to that i'm very confident that any action we took in venezuela would be lawful. so now so the answer is no sorry i didn't think that so once again we have a president who thinks that they can rule by executive order whose cabinet thinks that they can just decide when people get droned when they get murdered when you actually can't send us and when we decide who's going to be in charge somewhere great so and literally no change and it's almost like obama never left wow. that's what's going to do it but the congress is actually a few members of congress are actually stepping up against the do a better way to put military forces are in fact representative david lean out of rhode island is introduced a bill that would actually specifically prevent trump from sending. u.s.
10:36 am
forces to venezuela without. approval which is technically what is supposed to happen here in the united states we've kind of been ignoring that. nine eleven that we've all been ignoring international law which is super important kind of important for you know things people to live together and isley all the rule of law that we all agree on. so mary ellen o'connell notre dame law school professor is a renowned expert on the subject of international law she told the university of notre dame's news agency that international law permits force in response to an armed attack and self-defense not for regime change to secure oil or even to distribute food they have no we have no business. entering militarily and of the situation we are not invited there this is this is how the worst of our wars get started and on top of it you have bono wants out of it to promote an impromptu we're going to have two wars one in the middle east one in
10:37 am
south america and we don't have money for anything but somehow we have another few trillion dollars and another decade to lose fighting on ending wars for nothing also save people for democracy and. this. during the twenty sixteen election politicians promised coalmining states like montana and west virginia that america was really going to dig coal again now two years later a new report from the institute for energy economics and financial analysis shows for the first time in u.s. history renewable energy sectors which include hydroelectric biomass wind solar and geothermal are outperforming coal according to the report in april of two thousand and nineteen renewables provided two thousand three hundred twenty two thousand megawatt hours per day while coal only produced one thousand nine hundred ninety seven thousand megawatt hours per day which makes sense as we've recently saw. the
10:38 am
u.s. consumption for coal cellar below the seven hundred million tonnes per year for the first time in four decades. as a research analyst dennis was dead states in the report that five years ago this never would have been close to happening the transition that's going on in the electric sector in the united states has been phenomenal it is also estimated that the u.s. will break its previous record for most closings of coal mines and power plants and according to the energy information administration they believe that coal fired electricity will drop from thirty nine percent of the mix in two thousand and fourteen to twenty seven percent this year and twenty nineteen so when it comes to the choice between coal and renewables the energy sector seems to be preparing for the future all our politicians just can't seem to take their pick between coal and anything but coal. this is great news for environmental folks who care about the environment things like people who like clean air blows my mind about this is what two moons ago in two thousand and sixteen will probably see
10:39 am
a repeat of that in two thousand and twenty nothing changes but that's all everyone has one to focus on with saving the jobs of coal miners while the rest of us are going like we've been uses coal in the energy for the future you know the idea was that we sold a lot to china now is that was where the big thing was will keep them open because china still using a lot of coal via slee but we're not now and it's sort of silly at this point if we have time after time now one thing to keep in mind about these numbers at least number specifically for this month is they always tend to drop with coal this time here in the spring a lot of coal plants are purposely taken offline for maintenance because it's the least amount of time we need that we've gotten past the cold season and we're not into the the summer season where people are using their air conditioners again so that's part of it but there's a huge shift that we've been seeing and it's not just coal mines it's coal plant.
10:40 am
it's anything to do with coal that people are getting away from and more and more energy sector companies and places and nonprofits are moving toward renewables because they're more efficient they're less money yeah and that's kind of like you know when you see the damage that we've done over the years you know use of coal mining and all that kind of thing breathlessly no more what do you do what do you do when you have to close a coal mine there has to be an answer to there are actually because you know a lot of people bring up that thing it's like ok well we're putting these coal miners out of jobs what do we do all of this will just this past monday governor of washington the state of washington and president candidate jay inslee you have this to say about how washington handled the transition from cold renewables let's take a listen. you recall your call for a player it's truly a war. but we are going through your position where for the feelings to work for gerges a very creative fifty five hundred dollar for to help those theories. you know that
10:41 am
you and we're used to build small businesses here and we hope it will. for infrastructure because you're good americans if you would start to care for their hope that through this transition. so again we're sitting there the one thing is washington can sort of say like they've done it they've closed down a number of call plants power plants and i meant it is it's it's not as easy as just saying well we're going to help you with pensions we're going to help you it's a cumulative effect and so i think a lot of politicians are failing because they're returning in that sense to you know alexander. you know come to kentucky and talk to our coal miners now have. kentucky but it's a thing where you it turns into a pandering it's a tool to use against your opponent not something to really think about the long term which is sad because the truth is we can we can't rest on our laurels from an environmental standpoint because. the reason coal went down
10:42 am
a big chunk of that is natural gas and fracking so we're still using a fossil fuel but at least it's not quite burned slightly slightly less horribly than that but i would be nice to get those numbers down but if we've we've we've given so much up in renewables we just have to keep making them more palatable for people yes we do and what you know what's really interesting as we can see behind you we've got you know basically. air power you know when mills and all of this is you know we said this is so rare rare of them what i mean it's like wow people are building mills but what's really interesting to have is actually you would you could not guess the state that is like the leading the way in windmill technology or technology. definitely not to access actually it definitely is texas back to texas home about a quarter of all wind power capacity in the country with the ability to generate twenty five thousand megawatts so we're seeing that up rise in renewable energy
10:43 am
resources i mean it's things like that and then when you see in a place like texas which is known for oil you know when they are a vase state for oil when big oil says big wind makes more sense. so this is good news it's good news good they really are as good a record watchers don't forget to let us know what you think of the topics we've covered of facebook you tube and twitter and then come and see your poll shows that are t. dot com coming up we bounce around the globe with the latest from north korea israel palestine and then the larger than life story of the himalayas states in the hall.
10:44 am
or do. during the great depression which old mr remember there was most of the family were employed. there wasn't it was bed you know much worse objectively that day but there was an expectation that things were going to get better. there was a real sense of hopefulness there isn't today today's america where shape by the ten principles of concentration of wealth and power. reduced democracy

it from those seeing the results of. the hour. kim jong un and north korea are back making headlines again hawk watches but not just for nuclear deals missile tests and saber rattling according to the united nations roughly forty percent of north korea's population is now in urgent need of food after the country suffered its worst harvest in a decade united nations relief agencies told the media that quote the situation could further deteriorate during the lean season from may to september if no proper

and urgent humanitarian actions are taken un security council sanctions have deprived the north koreans government from major sources of income and that has played a significant role in the country's ability to import food during a chronic food shortages the nation has faced in the past joining us now from miami to bring us the latest on north korea's recent headline making actions is r.t. america correspondent john hardy thank you for joining us john. well your welcome good to be with you again always a pleasure john no of course the big news of the week was that north korea conducted yet another missile to. the missiles were short range of the right to judge what we know so far about the details of the latest launch. yet tyrell on top of him we know that north korea launched several short range missiles as you were just talking about some rockets into the sea of japan from fifty miles to about one hundred thirty miles off shore this happened saturday morning local time in north korea which would have been friday evening here and also tested the use of tactical
10:48 am
guided weapons though there's differing of opinions about what exactly those weapons were that were being tested u.s. secretary of state mike pompei o said over the weekend that at no point was there any international boundary that was crossed with north korea's missile test as there has been in the past there was never a threat to the u.s. or japan as there has been a prat past and he says that the missiles again were not intercontinental ballistic missiles as north korea have tested has tested in the past firing missiles actually over japan still clearly raises questions if this was perhaps an attempt by kim jong un to basically push forward some kind of breakthrough in the stalled negotiations with the united states after as you recall president trump walked out on the vietnam summit back in february or that perhaps can john is just showing frustration with the lack of continued talks so at this point you know that remains
10:49 am
to be seen you guys what has the internet access and our national reaction been to this task and of course i guess the big question now is how has this task affected the trumpet administration's relationship with north korea as these talks on. while president trump tweeted over the weekend he tweeted saturday and he said this quote i believe. that kim jong un phil fully realizes the great economic potential of north korea and will do nothing to interfere and did he also knows that i am with him and does not want to break his promise to me deal will happen so if you take the president and that his word you know that that quote unquote bromance continues if you will well that said yesterday on a.b.c. news this week u.s. secretary of state my pompei on maintain that the u.s. will continue to pursue diplomatic efforts with north korea here is what he said
10:50 am
listen this. well we don't think we still believe that there's an opportunity to get him to go shoot it out come where we get fully for verify denuclearization cermak him has repeated that he's repeated that quite recently in fact and so we hope that this act that he took over the weekend won't get in the way we want to get back at the time we want to continue to have these conversations the sanctions the global sanctions put on put in place by the u.n. security council they're still in place. and me the issues of the sanctions on north korea and north korea really remain a major stumbling block in the negotiations between the u.s. and north korea so whether that changes you know also remains to be seeing as you know it's interesting because i think one of the reasons i in my estimation of this is you know it's possible that he's launching these rockets because as you mentioned earlier we have these food shortages that are about to become true but how you get we've got to get back to the table where everybody looked at me i'm still here we've got to figure this out is there any idea what comes next out of this you know kim jong un is now met with the chinese leaders from china you know
10:51 am
met with vladimir putin in russia u.s. leaders you know what is next is there going to be anything in the horizon the we're hearing over that you can see. well it's a great question you know and there is the dynamic going on between not only kim jong un and the united states but also with his relationship now with latimer potent with south korean leaders with chinese officials all of whom have had meetings. with with with kim in the last basically since two thousand and eighteen so you know as far as the meeting with vladimir putin perhaps you know that was prudent stepping in to try to work a deal that president trump could not or some other strategy between russia and north korea maybe even kind of picking up where the united states left off but but that said you know the president did speak with japanese prime minister shinzo on today about the developments with north korea and moving forward and what exactly that entails again remains to be seen but there is this dynamic between the u.s.
10:52 am
between north korea between russia between you know south korea and china that's all part of this overall puzzle about what you know how you know what what goes on moving forward at this point you guys john always a pleasure thank you so much for coming on and informing us brilliantly informative jahnavi from miami you're welcome. this week. between israel and the left more than twenty palestinians reportedly killed including two pregnant women with war between the two countries once again looking like a very real possibility possibility a miraculous cease fire was called on monday from tel aviv you resort to these policies later with the story. when the truce between israel and the war in gaza factions went into effect on monday morning it was brokered egypt and the united nations it came off to the worst fear of violence between the sites once it was some seven hundred rained down on southern israel and these may be
10:53 am
a force bombarded hundreds of locations inside gaza destroying and damaging maybe buildings now the israelis have not confirmed that they were in talks with hamas because they cannot have fifty acknowledge that they are negotiating with an organization they regard as a terrorist movement but on monday morning israeli defense forces. to lift secure. restrictions on the south of the country so effectively just land the situation went back to normal schools we opened businesses we opened and people left they bomb shelters we do understand that the terms of the truce include an israeli commitment to lift the siege on gaza to ease the fishing restrictions off the coast of gaza and also to provide fuel and electricity to the strip not the vitamin source some twenty five hundred students killed among them soup ignorant women and toddlers israelis did not if they were killed at the hands of the strikes instead
10:54 am
saying that the women died in the inches that were being fired from the gaza strip israel has also resumed its policy of targeted assassinations it killed a man in his thirty's while he was traveling in is caught inside gaza who is responsible for distributing the cash that comes from the red to the various factions inside gaza now among the buildings that was hit by the israeli warplanes was your office all turkish state run news agency and all the turkish president the one has publicly criticized israel and take actions between us and televisions have increased on the israeli side for what israelis were killed this is the highest casualty number that israel has suffered in some five years since the last israel gaza war back in two thousand and fourteen now the feeling on the ground both inside gaza and israel is that this is merely allow infighting and that
10:55 am
unfortunately the flare up will happen again we have heard from hamas off to the cease fire threatening as well that if it doesn't come up to lift even the cease fire it will resume its rocket attacks and speaking to israelis here in the south of the country many feel that they've been abandoned by the israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu many israelis would have liked him to have conducted a full scale war inside gaza to quote them once and for all. deal with the situation the next two weeks are jam packed on the israeli cabinet you have israeli independence day memorial day you have the one year anniversary of the american moving off its embassy from tel aviv to jerusalem you have knocked the day which is the palestinian commemoration of what they call the catastrophe the declaration of these really independence back in one nine hundred forty eight and all of this comes before the year of vision song face to both slated to begin on the fourteenth of may the saints very much is that miss on yahoo does not want to disrupt any of
10:56 am
those memorial days any of those celebrations and that he's perhaps planning to deal with the situation in gaza off to a fortnight as far as your vision is concerned there are some twenty thousand tourists who are expected to descend on television where the world's largest singing competition will be held you'll really have international groups who have a arrived on the way and both organizers of the competition as well as the israeli foreign ministry all the pains to point out that the show must go on at this stage there are no known cancellations into this coming so full no this ceasefire is holding but as i say there's a real sense that this is merely alone in the fighting for watching the hawks tel aviv. one of the fury of bipedal creature that has been at the center of the logical debates for centuries maybe even longer the yeti or in a bomb man is said to live deep in the mountains of the himalayas and well many have tried to capture the beast on film the indian army says they found footprints
10:57 am
these snow we have footprints measured thirty two inches long and fifteen inches wide was found at the monk who ruined national park base camp where the yeti is believed by many to hide called the made tape by the himalayas it is protected in certain areas like the nation of bhutan in these national parks even if one has never actually been found and while scientists mostly think that the ivy is just a bear the people. well believe in the yeti will not be deterred from their belief in the beast with a human soul that lives deep in the snow in minutes wow that's a good one of them but not as our show for you today remember everyone in this world we are not told that we are lucky enough so it's all you all i love you i am a robot and on top of all of the fun watching those hawks not a great night everybody.
