they do their rights. their rights political rights. from our moscow studio where it's probably just past 2 o'clock in the morning you're watching r.t. international thank you for joining us. now a significant moment for democracy that's how donald trump has welcomed the resignation of bolivian president evo morales rose announced he'd be stepping down on sunday after facing opposition from the military and the police. the resignation yesterday of believe in president ever morales is a significant moment for democracy in the western hemisphere these events send a strong signal to the illegitimate regimes in venezuela nicaragua the democracy and the will of the people will always prevail well since morale has announced his departure a violent incidents have been reported in and around its capital paths. well
6:02 pm
these pictures purportedly show morale is his house which was a vandalized reports say the vice president's home was also ransacked as were the residences of several cabinet ministers. and several countries have spoken out against the resignation of brothers denouncing the event as a coup the bolivian opposition claims the police are currently seeking to detain him but the chief of police denies there is a warrant out for his arrest russia has also condemned the situation in bolivia saying it looks like a directed coup it goes down the takes us through all the latest events in bolivia you may have heard that bolivia has lately been celebrating

a triumph of democracy. to put livia to its people to young people to women to the heroism of peaceful resistance who will never forget this unique day the end of terror and grateful as a bolivian for this historical lesson long live bolivia absolutely delighted grateful to god that this dictatorship is over this tyranny is over that's what i meant that it's totally glorious for us we're very happy i did long leave good luck well here is what a triumph of democracy has looked like in bolivia president morales resigned the vice president resigned the president of the senate the 3rd person in line for the top job you guessed it resigned. the bolivian army and security forces are the only viable force left after they
6:04 pm
renounced their allegiance to the government and took the side of the protesters hey we suggest to the president of the state to resign his presidential mandate to allow for peace and stability for the good of our believe you. but it's not as black and white as the anti government side might want you to think plenty of people have been supporting evo morales in the streets and it's them who have been getting the short end of the stake here. in fact that was the key reason for morale is to throw in the towel he wanted the

violent. to cease this. one when deciding to resign so the opposition doesn't keep pursuing my brothers and the unions we are resigning i'm resigning prefers little that my brothers and sisters leaders of the socialist movement don't continue to be held hostage and threatened because in bolivia morales has no one not a 100 not a 1000 supporters he's got millions this a tobar of 47 percent of bolivians voted for morality and while critics of the ballot are screaming bloody murder this is specter the election fraud is within a 3 percent margin evil moralities a die hard leftist has been leading bolivia for 14 years under his rule the country's economy has been growing faster than at any period over the past 3 and a half decades morales viewed as the voice of the poor managed to drastically
6:06 pm
reduce poverty and economic inequality he significantly increased the minimum wage to and boosted social spending millions had no problem with that and all of them are now represented and protected by nobody now the military is the only element capable of filling the power vacuum and bolivia and well some experts on latin america aren't optimistic about what the army can do for the country it's terrible it's a military coup yesterday the term that was used was asked to resign you don't ask. when you're pointing out that some words. are still their wallet they're not giving up or voluntarily. they know that the alternative was wrong or our sister's house was burning. members of

the fur to have them around so we saw that tactic used to make your. pro. 28 chain so all of this all of this things that are happening on both of you are familiar to most of them can be described as stomach credit. well the situation with bolivia came to a head when the organization of american states called for the country's recent election to be and no 2 to irregularities the organization is made up of states from across the americas and aims to promote peace among those countries its headquarters is based in washington and it receives 60 percent of its funding from the u.s. but it's not been short of controversy in the past particularly the haiti elections back in 2011 back then the oas was accused of pressuring the local election of thora to overturn the 1st round of the vote without
6:08 pm
a recount the group's actions in haiti true widespread condemnation meanwhile in his latest statement on bolivia the oas said it is against any unconstitutional means of ending the crisis and the call for peace and the rule of law to be restored. well for a bit more insight on this we can now bring in live kevin cashman who senior associate at the center for economic and policy research in washington d.c. kevin thanks for joining us let's head the oas claimed that the election in bolivia was mobbed by manipulation and irregularities and it did recommend a rerun how do you view the organizations role in this crisis. it's definitely been very controversial and i think what your viewers need to know is that there's 2 ways the vote is tabulated and believe there's a quick count which is supposed to provide an election night result that's preliminary and there's the official count which takes a longer time because they have to count votes all over the country. so all this
6:09 pm
started when the oas basically took issue with how the blues you know what oral authority suspended the quick count. and they said that what they were doing was you know not transparent and. the media basically conflated this quick count with the official count and said that they were altering the election results but when you look further into it we have found that the blue van or tour with already had basically. done what they are done in past elections they released the quick count on the night of the you action and then they reached the release the official count a few days later. so the oas by inserting itself in that process has caused a lot of confusion about these 2 different voting counts. kevin appreciate that breakdown let's talk a little bit about the way that ron has his resignation has been perceived because
6:10 pm
he himself says he's the victim of an illegal coup and as we heard that a couple of other countries are also saying the same how does it look to you. i think it's right it's a coup because he resigned and his others in his party resigned because they were under direct threat to their life or they felt they were so in that sense it is a coup the military suggested that he resign you know when the military suggests something that you know is coersion. so i think he's absolutely right. let's talk a little bit about what might happen next because we just love the morale has been granted asylum by mexico why do you think mexico has thrown its support behind this . well i don't know if they've thrown their support behind him but they you know are offering asylum because his life is in jeopardy and they think that there should be you know
6:11 pm
a process that. follows the constitution and investigates what happened and returns. as elections which morales called for himself. or has some kind of other solution to this crisis certainly we all seeing lots of different moving parts happening all around latin america at the moment you know restive many different countries but they're all signs of a power vacuum and merging in bolivia of course with this resignation of about the resignations in the cabinet there's reports of looting vandalism and also on the streets in the past how do you expect the minute tree to handle the current situation. i honestly think that nobody really knows what is going to happen morales has a lot of support in bolivia he by all accounts was a ticket that won the most votes in the. no action. and there's obviously a large opposition to. so i'm i'm not sure we really know what is going to happen
6:12 pm
what role the military is going to play what role the oas will play in the future but i think we need an independent investigation into what the u.s. has done there and also we need. countries like mexico way to weigh in and help have a dialogue over this situation kevin cashman sr says yeah the center for economic and policy research in washington d.c. thanks for your insights. now shocking footage has emerged of a man being set on fire in hong kong after getting into an argument with protesters we do want to give you warning here that you will find some of the following images to stepping. well it was one of. the scenes that you'd see in a war or disaster zone that would shock even the most hardened viewers today's pictures from hong kong reach new lows the man in this footage hasn't been
6:13 pm
identified yet authorities have only confirmed he is in a critical condition police say he was attacked after arguing with a riot is the footage of the disorder is a regular feature on global news bulletins one could be forgiven for forgetting how and why this all began we must take action to demonstrate to president g. the united states senate stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of hong kong the people of hong kong are perfectly within their rights to be very skeptical very anxious about proposals for extradition to the mainland so yes i do support them and i will happily speak up to them and. every inch of the way the u.k. signed an internationally binding legal agreement in 1984 that in trying to the one country 2 systems rule in trying to the basic freedoms of the people of hong kong
6:14 pm
and we stand for square behind that agreement foursquare behind the people of hong kong all those months ago the demonstrators objectives and demands seem to be clear as time has passed and lines blurred this has changed this isn't the 1st such case of targeted violence merely another step in a pattern of escalation a middle aged unarmed man left unconscious on the ground after of swarming attack by demonstrators global times journalist food go out bound and beaten in hong kong airport for his support of author. jr's home a probe aging lawmaker forming victims of a knife attack which could have ended far worse. amid rising arson looting and violence police are also upping the stakes that day is the 3rd time live rounds have been used by officers is another protester in critical condition an officer plowing his motorbike into a mass of people 2 of them reportedly injured thousands wounded in clashes it's
6:15 pm
almost a miracle the body count from the violence isn't higher some say the situation was predictable or claim it's avoidable the protesters that they simply out of options the truth could lie somewhere in between but as the protests reach a point of no return compromise seems to be the last priority for any side well earlier we spoke to pack senior lecturer in politics at the university of bath and he told us the intense violence is undermining the message of the hong kong protesters i have seen a lot of media coverage you born khon. have been biased and have been also all ones either be sympathetic with the protesters their cameras or some morsy focusing on how the police handle the process that is that of all those kind of fall and soon misbehavior can complete the by the protestants because
6:16 pm
the violence has already damage the legitimacy and the popularity of the movement. the majority of the people who support it nonviolence resistance they have already this why likewise in silence and move far from the scene and what we are only seeing in the television and the deal now these are the violent protesters. running around in a kind of. style and it's very difficult for the police to persecute them. the president of syria has given an exclusive interview to r.t. we'll have that and more after this short break.

welcome back syrian president bashar al assad has denied accusations that government forces have been targeting civilians he made those comments in an exclusive interview with alex he's going underground present to afshin rattansi touched on the u.s. looting of his country's oil he also shed its view on the actions of the kurds and turkey in his country. how did i says roy roth suddenly in 2014 out of nowhere after nothing. in iraq and syria at the same time with american armament. the be physically the russians are saying that the us is stealing $30000000.00 of oil a month from northern syria is this a trump budgeting chip in the geneva talks why would net oil export or like the usa be interested in $30000000.00 of oil
6:19 pm

annual veteran's day holiday but it seems not everyone is feeling festive according to a new survey a majority of military veterans believe america's most recent wars were not worth fighting almost 2 thirds of veterans polled said the iraq war had not been worth the effort and more than half expressed similar feelings ever afghanistan the figures for the general public are around the same nevertheless after almost 20 years now afghanistan the joint chief of staff chairman confirmed over the weekend that it's not over yet. that efforts ongoing has been ongoing for 18 consecutive years i suspect it'll be ongoing into the future for the for several more years that mission is not yet complete and the us army veteran told us the soldiers ascend to fight in foreign wars the only benefit military contract is i served in iraq in 2000 or 2005 at the sniper and you know my. my opinions about the mission in iraq changed while i was there we were told that it was weapons of mass destruction that there were ties to 911 that we were bringing
