6:01 pm
from moscow what you are to international law daniel hawking's where if you are tonight thanks for joining us on the program. let me putin has hailed the brics alliance as a vital factor for global stability the leaders of brazil russia india china and south africa have wound up there somewhat it was india with a focus on boosting their economic and political partnership and he has more information reports from the brazilian capital. these have been 2 very busy days deliveries of bricks member states met here for 11 summit brought to bigger locations with them to have extensive talks speaking with the russian media calling all the meetings russia's president vladimir putin has stressed the group's influence and it will continue growing steadily as a lobel stabilizing force speaking about want all russia's brics partners china what must be expressed these disagreements with america's demand to include china a new nuclear kept tough to throw in from the i.m.f.
6:02 pm
treaty china issue was a monkey reasons behind america's decision or so used to show you a loose russia in the us remain the biggest nuclear powers in the world but if we include china in the negotiations why just china let's include from some the u.k. then and other countries which are officially acknowledged as nucular states but which aren't keeping their real nuclear status a secret as break summit takes place in bass part of the globe obviously there was a question about a series of violent protests that shook several countries here in south america and as well in chile and just recently believe it i believe it by the way is among the biggest challenges for brics countries and a big dividing force as their positions on what's going on there a resignation all the newly elected president there different dramatically with some saying it is a legitimate democratic process or not there is including russia calling it a coup d'etat by reporting said that the biggest danger in such situations is chaos
6:03 pm
. can you imagine there's no real leadership in the country everyone has given up power it reminds me of the situation in libya even though there's been no direct foreign military intrusion but the country is on the verge of chaos it's a worrying sign it was a rare chance for russian journalists because they were allowed to ask any question and open. see the conversation went far beyond bricks summit speaking about syria vladimir putin has praised the success on the ground thanking russia turkey tourists official damascus for that but also emphasizing the role of america in countering terrorism in syria. if talking about washington's contribution in fighting terrorists in syria we should admit they have contributed however the so-called international coalition didn't do much until russia moved into syria but in terms of the operation led by donald trump the u.s.
6:04 pm
has contributed to the joint effort aimed at defeating the terrorists even though every independent observer could see the role of russia or in that taking into account our operations and their results journalists also wanted to know when vladimir putin can meet donald trump the russian president said that the american leader is invited to take part in celebrations next year even more school related to 70 steve's anniversary of the victory in world war 2 and the meeting potentially can happen there. are other headlines 2 people have been killed in a high school shooting in santa clarita to the north of los angeles the victims were age 14 and 63 other students are in all sports along with the suspected shooter who himself is in a critical condition let's go live to caleb opened to get the latest updates on the scale of can you just talk us through what happened here today at that school.
6:05 pm
while shooting began early on thursday morning the individual who has been identified as a 16 year old who attended this high school came and began opening fire on his classmates now the shooter apparently picked his 16th birthday to carry out the shooting and now 2 of his classmates are dead and 3 of them are in the hospital receiving medical treatment for injuries from gunshots now the shooter himself was also injured with a gunshot and it appears that gunshot was self-inflicted this is local police commenting on what happened. the suspect was later identified as one of the victims who was found in the quad. he is identified as a 16 year old me you know whose birthday is today. the weapon that he used was recovered out to sea it's a $45.00 caliber semiautomatic pistol which had no more rounds in it had no more
6:06 pm
bullets in it. now rumors about social media posts and online threats that could have given warning to the attack are currently being investigated nothing as yet been confirmed now it's also important to know that there were 30 shooting attacks on school grounds across the united states in the year of 2019 that resulted in deaths or injuries and that's according to the gun safety group known as every town now the local sheriff with the l.a. county sheriff's department commented about the painful sentiments and the ongoing trend of shootings in u.s. schools. and i hate to have tsongas be added to the names of columbine parklane sandy hook but it's a reality that affects us all throughout the nation something we're going to deal with and it is captain lewis said we've got to figure out what are we doing wrong and how can we stop this from happening in the future. now the students were taken to a nearby church after they were evacuated from saugus high school the shooting took
6:07 pm
place at saugus high school which is located roughly 35 miles north of los angeles after the students were evacuated to the church they were able to meet with their parents at that church and you know go on home after what was the very frightful day for many children and many parents most likely you know of course all thoughts with those victims and their families kind of opened their life from new york thanks but up it. was it also struck in russia's far east on thursday morning a college shooting left one person dead and 3 others injured a security guard on duty at the time has been arrested on suspicion of negligence a 19 year old student smuggled a gun into a construction college where he was studying this is the classroom where the tragedy unfolded investigators are still working at the scene the attacker who was described as calm and quiet for the teacher out of the room before opening fire on his own classmates event and the gun on himself and here's what witnesses told us
6:08 pm
shortly after the incident. by the 5 of us went to the toilet i was the 1st to answer and i felt how he put a gun to my stomach and kept silent for a while and then said get out of here against his nose he was gone quiet he somehow managed to work through the security with his gun and killed. i wanted to see what was going on i couldn't even imagine that something like this could happen now sitting. there is this when you we've tried to call our children but no one responded and then we received the names in syria names of those who died and who were shot we've got to be careful in the aftermath of especially in the immediate hours after an event a tragedy like this there's a lot of rumors that spread the changed and a lot of misleading in our private for you can from asian but according to what the police have said bits and pieces and reports i wouldn't assess them only in the
6:09 pm
media at 10 am local time in blagoveshchensk a city in the far east of russia the shooter a student at a construction college arrived late for class the teacher asked him to leave and he did he came back carrying a shotgun he entered the classroom he told the teacher to get out she was forced out and then he turned the gun on his classmates. but it just got to. it took a little spill it. looks to be it's been 3 years. he continued shooting after that of the kids you know teenagers in all one person was killed another 3 injured one of them in critical condition. the teacher the
6:10 pm
teacher scaped and she caught hell. lisa arrived in the scene called in paramedics and doctors the injured were taken to hospitals. where you actually live in am today 2 servants in your olds arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds both have been operated on one is in a critical condition the other is stable now police when they arrived at the scene thankfully apparently very quickly before there were further casualties they found him on the 2nd floor in a corridor when he saw police he fired at them there was an exchange of gunfire i went into a classroom and turned the gunman himself committed suicide. the shooter was 19 years old the firearm was licensed the other he had a permit for the firearm so it was niggly obtain. as i see investigation underway now to stop the details but according to witnesses and some of his classmates the
6:11 pm
there could have been animosity conflicts between the students apparently he may have been the victim of bullying which in no way excuses what he did but it certainly flushes out the circumstances investigation is under way already the security guard at the college has been arrested on suspicion of criminal negligence apparently the company that hired him a private security firm there also in hot water because he wasn't licensed to be a security guard at this college. nevertheless the investigation continues well as more information comes in we'll will bring it to our viewers one thing i must mention though is you know being there in the aftermath of a school shooting i was in last year there were fortunately many more casualties there. but it always leaves the mark you know the shooting at the school with

society's most vulnerable. american antiwar. mr medea benjamin spin threatened with arrest after being accused of assaulting a member of congress you're in a protest in washington d.c. she says 5 police cause showed up at her house on the open his door to detain her but had no arrest warrant alert the media benjamin was forcibly removed from a press conference in washington d.c. and i was in the creation of a so-called venezuela democracy caucus it's a bipartisan group in the united states congress created to support the opposition in venezuela now during that event benjamin shouted out that the u.s. should end its sanctions on iran as well as he held up a sign saying no coups in venezuela or bolivia well this is a video from outside the conference venue the democratic congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz claims that she was physically assaulted and there benjamin though says she herself was shoved to the ground and threatened with cross live now
6:13 pm
to could be an activist benjamin who was in that video we just saw a minute ago today thanks for joining us. because you firstly just describe for us what actually happened at that event what was the series of events that led to this accusation. we were at the press conference there were about 6 of us and the rest of the group was people who support the venezuelan position we were there to say 9 intervention in venezuela and when we held up our signs every single one of them was grabbed from our hands by these. even somebody had their phone grabbed from his hand and i was just standing there and then all of a sudden i was being dragged down pushed. out and thrown to the ground i got out of there because i was so shaken up by when it happened and went home and after i had been home no more than about 20 minutes by police cars
6:14 pm
rode up to my house and motorcycles and swell surrounded the house as if i were some kind of terrorist and said there was a all out bulletin for my arrest and i refused to go with them i said where's the warrant they didn't have a warrant and i feel to them and we they stayed outside my house it seemed like they were looking at the video footage which they shouldn't they came to my house like that and in the end they didn't arrest me you know i don't know if that is the end of this or they will get a warrant and try to arrest me but the fact is that i am a peace activist i don't result anyone and that i was the one that was assaulted and it's a travesty that they came to my house in such numbers and so intimidating and i think it's meant to intimidate those of us who work against us intervention in countries like venezuela. times of the allegations in
6:15 pm
a sense of awe some of the. obviously a little harassed by touching oh i don't know how much should you can do you know talk about this the legal implications but what is your response to that on occasion is that not what happened in the sort of tussle that took place outside the conference. well absolutely as well as my other colleagues who were there were all peaceful protesters and we were the ones who were shoved and pushed now this isn't something unique this is happening to us quite a lot with the same group of venezuelans who surround themselves with people who think that they can attack us and get away with it because unfortunately they do this happened when we were trying to stop them from taking over the embassy in washington d.c. and every day we went there we would be pushed and shoved and intact we'd asked the police to arrest and they wouldn't so unfortunately this is the pattern that we are protesting against and of course we're all also protesting against the way our
6:16 pm
government is interfering you know there's so much talk about russia interfering in the u.s. and here we have the u.s. that is paying the salaries for the opposition figures and then as well are people on to go out on the streets after the bolivian who they are now saying all right now you can do it in venezuela as well and we have to stop this kind of interference i'm a journalist my experimental he was recently arrested on what he did at least described as fabricated assault charges that was linked to his coverage of the venezuelan embassy siege do you see any sort of perils here in that situation. absolutely he was arrested 5 months after the fact so they could come to my house at any time i think this is meant to leave us in a state of uncertainty worrying looking behind our back all the time and it hasn't just happened to max my partner tighe barry was falsely arrested and accused of assaulting a police officer it took him 6 months to get the charges dropped so this is
6:17 pm
a pattern that is happening for people who are left inside the venezuelan embassy trying to support international law were arrested and now face serious charges there are other people at the venezuelan embassy who are also continue to face charges so this is selective prosecution and it's bogus they make up things against us again as a way to intimidate not only us but other people who are going to join us. in terms of the what the protest was about. obviously you mentioned it was to do with the venezuelans of what's happening in bolivia now as well obviously you mentioned there is a bit of a pattern here with what's going on how do you see that developing further could we see further such events in south america do you think. well 1st i want to say that it's not that this bipartisan committee cares about the people of venezuela or bolivia for that matter it's that they care about votes in florida and this is all
6:18 pm
about the upcoming presidential election and trying to win the votes of the 200000 as well and americans cuban americans who live there by taking this very hard line so when debbie wasserman schultz the congresswoman was saying that they care about the people of venezuela i would say well if you do then you should lift the sanctions because that's really affecting the lives of everybody living in venezuela so i'm fortunately this is about partisan politics in the united states and not about the people of latin america right good productive facts for coming on today good to have in the program thank you. bolivia it's been hit by a fresh round of violent protests this time from supporters of former president evo morales it was on sunday off the roddy's demanding his departure his supporters so ever are now on the streets calling for the new government to bring him back.
6:19 pm
as you know we were in the past next to the government residence tear gas was used against protesters demanding the immediate resignation of the government they also demand the expulsion of congressmen and luke come on show from the country you can see the gas crowd behind me this seems to be an endless story judging by what is happening now the army is also next to the police including tanks that support them . ever morale has fled to mexico along with many of his party members followed mass unrest over claims that last month's election victory was rigged. the scribed events as a coup violence looting and violence and followed and some of his supporters now say they're fearing for their lives. they have carried out a coup d'etat against does as of last night we are living like a dictatorship times they are hunting our leaders they are hunting it's very likely
6:20 pm
that they will see me and want my head to. the divisions are caused by reese as they persecute us as bolivians those from i'll tell you they discriminate against us because we come from alto in the past they discriminate against those who wear skirts and we want to allow it on tuesday but if you join in on years the cloud herself interim president of bolivia she was sworn in by her allies parties that all caught up except the story. a new force has seized bolivia's political reigns her name is janine is and she's just declared herself interim president but if you did as president of the senate i immediately take on the state presidency for singing in the constitution and i swear to undertake all the measures necessary to bring peace to the country on us has long been a critic of her socialist predecessor more alice who was forced to resign several days ago after the army dropped its support she evoked the constitution to justify
6:21 pm
getting the top job and is called for new elections but i guess herself wasn't actually elected she was just next in line after the president vice president and head of the senate all relinquished their posts even the legislature itself didn't really elect her because morales supporters boycotted that session now the real people who put her in power there are a colorful bunch. meet mr camacho he was part of a gang that wasted little time ransacking morales's former home. but these trespassers weren't just a bunch of thieves they were searching for a more spiritual experience here's camacho and his buddies praying with a bible after breaking into the house one of their supporters praised it as christ's return to the bolivian government the bible is returning to the government
6:22 pm
palace never again will the touching moment go to this return today christ is returning to the government powerless to live in is for christ but you don't see that 2nd coming but then again come on shows long had a unique take on the lord's work he spent years leading a religious fundamentalist organization called the santa cruz youth union aside from its reputation for p.t. it's also a purveyor of right wing ideology how far to the right. well it doesn't get much farther than this when you. get. a sizable number of the opposition's activists may be a bit unhinged but it's the political arm that is far more presentable carlos mesa was president before moralists and lost another election to him in october the think tank inter-american dialogue lists him as an expert on its website it's d.c. based and u.s. government funded but may says connections to washington run far deeper than that
6:23 pm
according to wiki leaks he was corresponding with the u.s. embassy in bolivia for years discussing the details of his political strategy no less in a meeting with the charge on october the 27th messam all but acknowledged that ever would win his constitution in january and that there was little point in taking that quick zone think of trying to defeat it of course that makes the white house pretty happy the resignation yesterday of bolivian president evo morales is a significant moment for democracy in the western hemisphere these events send a strong signal to the illegitimate regimes in venezuela or nicaragua the democracy and the will of the people will always prevail but the situation on the ground is becoming increasingly unstable especially now that the military isn't being 100 percent cooperative right now. because then you have refused to coordinate with the national police or you are saying the military is being overtaken by criminal
6:24 pm
records which are just entering the capital as i believe the end do your job we do not want more you will be responsible for everything that happens if after my order which i had made as president at least anecdotally crimes and it will be your responsibility on his may have gotten to the top sticking to the letter of the law but it's going to take a lot more than that if she wants to patch up latin america's latest political vacuum just go up to at $230.00 here in moscow of alex salmond's show coming up in just a few moments time about with another run down next to the. time after time to repeat the same mantra sustainability very important. transition board sustainability. more equitable and sustainable.

they claim that production is completely hama's. companies want us to feel good about the products while the damage is being done far away. those who consume corporate media will believe the bolivian army rightfully overthrew the democratically elected president of bolivia the word coup is not mentioned but this is exactly what happened the tried and tested color revolution was on display for anyone paying attention. is in retreat.
