on this week's show turkey leftovers last week we wondered if recent developments would cause president trump's meeting with president air to one of turkey not to happen they met and it was a scene what next also this week t.v. is changing channels with netflix under attack from less and more expensive new competitors will sort out your new options but 1st the ukraine whistleblower story let's separate the noise from the new i'm holland cook in washington this is the big picture on r.t. america. during the mainstream media wall to wall impeachment frenzy we're hearing a lot about whistle blowers sounding the alarm over president trump's quid pro quo
10:31 pm
with ukraine what is a whistleblower and what about ukraine let's call in rally a retired f.b.i. special agent and former minneapolis division legal counsel she was a whistleblower about the f.b.i.'s preening 11 failures testifying to the joint intelligence committee inquiry the senate judiciary committee and the inspector general staff of the department of justice she was named along with 2 other corporate whistleblowers as time magazine's 2002 persons of the year colleen how uncomfortable did it get for you when you have followed your conscience by speaking out about 911 failures where yes shunned. well actually in my case it took 4 senators. grassley lazy and our 2 minnesota senators to. begged the attorney general and the f.b.i.
10:32 pm
director not to fire me and so i did i was able to hang on to retirement and a pension but that's about what it takes it takes a lot because when you're standing alone revealing fraud waste and abuse the classic case of. telling truth to power the classic case it's very uncomfortable very difficult in often times people go to jail for trying to get the truth out while the person who was at one point the most senior in bassett or in the entire state department was testifying on friday at the impeachment hearings president trump was trashing her on twitter in real time is that what you call witness intimidation. well in the case of that ukraine gate whistle blow worse it is not the classic speaking truth to power for starters there's more than one there's several ambassador taylor curran all then men and
10:33 pm
they are all standing together or frankly i kind of see it the opposite way as if trump is actually the whistleblower because he has criticized the intelligence community it's well known from even the start that they've been against him and he has you know criticized in some cases rightly so so you can see this from different angles and it's not at all the classic case of the tipster who got it started is not even relevant because he did not know the facts and now all of these new people that are testifying as cooperate in witnesses are more like the whistleblower that you would you would talk about because they're the ones revealing the information back at that helsinki summit president trump stood alongside president putin and said he takes his putin's word regarding russian election meddling over the assessment of united states intelligence professionals and in the opening round of impeachment hearings on the wednesday we began with republican devon noon yesterday
10:34 pm
meaning members of the foreign service you served your country a long time colleen how durable is more raul among career civil servants. that this president and his lockstep congressional republicans followers put down as the deep state. well i think morale had to have suffered long before trump you know when the cia was engaged in torture our own military members now are speaking about against the endless wars so you do have a number of people in government and i think it started long maybe tromp is kind of a combination of lower morale i know in the f.b.i. right now you're seeing investigations of the highest levels of call me and mccabe and some people were fired and so obviously morale is pretty low because your pride of being a part of that entity suffers when these but very bad things happen and what
10:35 pm
a lot of americans might not understand about career civil servants is that they transcend that they span administrations they don't tend to be partisan correct. well that's kind of changed if you saw those tweets and tax between straka and page in the f.b.i. they were very partisan in my day before i retired in 2004 we couldn't even utter a word about a party or a candidate because the at the i was under the strongest form of the hatch act but it looks like some of that has changed now and i think the whole country is so polarized and this has obviously spread into government service well i'm glad you mentioned that because there are laws and president trump has disparaged the oficial ian name government employees we call the whistleblower as unpatriotic at
10:36 pm
one point he said it disgraced some on the right have all heard the name they suspect is the whistle blower arguably risking the safety of his or her life and family colleen for that reason isn't naming names illegal. actually retaliation against a whistleblower is illegal most of the people testifying now who actually have information sometimes 2nd and 3rd hand but sometimes even 1st hand information they are not that original whistleblower the original whistleblower or we would call a tipster and he he merely got the ball rolling it turns out that his information wasn't even it wasn't firsthand and a lot of it was not even valid so in court a tipster's identity legally can remain secret because you're not important the cooperating witnesses that are testifying venom and tail are void of all these
10:37 pm
other ones then their identity is known and so as i said from the start this is not at all i'm all for protection of whistle wars we have a law i have a lot of friends who who went through hell to tell the truth sometimes even went to jail and i'm very much in favor of protecting corporate and government was a wars but this current case is not at all on par with the classic case of telling truth to power take us inside the life of a civil servant see i'm going to work every day on metro on the subway here working for uncle sam who are these people flush them out. i think the majority are good decent people and just as with the military they join government in order to make a difference to serve the public going back to whistleblowing this is why if you ever spot an instance of fraud waste and abuse by
10:38 pm
a superior the normal good decent government employee does not want to work in that situation they don't want to be a part of it and that's why whistleblower protection is necessary in government they've had a difficult difficult time for 4 decades and trying to actually effect that we had f.b.i. laboratory whistleblower who practically had a nervous breakdown because he was trying to say that the f.b.i. lab while he was right he was absolutely right the f.b.i. lab was not even accredited and yet he was. shunned and forced out except so the good employee wants to keep improving public service unfortunately there's a lot of people in power that have different agendas and in some cases they actually are engaging in fraud waste abuse illegal actions let's just take the case of the cia torture what would you do if you were a good cia or an f.b.i.
10:39 pm
employee we actually had some like that who were witnessing their government commit the most egregious terrible acts of torture what can you do i mean you're really in a very bad place this ukraine gate situation is not at all the same because you have for starters you have all of your intelligence community on the side of the whistleblowers they've signed petitions are 100 or more of them have signed brennan clapper all of these very powerful intelligence people have signed petitions supporting the whistleblower that's very very unusual that's that already should cause people to start thinking about this it's not at all classic case sure going to speak volumes thank you coleen rowley appreciate your perspective on this. important and developing story coming up after president trump's awkward oval office encounter with turkish president air to one where does our relationship stand and thanksgiving came early for cord cutters this is the big picture on our

a week ago after all that's transpired recently between president trump and turkish president air to one we wondered would their scheduled white house meeting actually happened look you guessed right it's r t contributor longtime pentagon oficial and keen observer of geo political arm wrestling michael maloof michael the meeting sure did happen with a number of senators president reportedly it got lively and we're told the turkish president returned that very unpresidential letter to president trump makes a statement doesn't oh yeah it does. it's as though he's saying someone signed your name to this crazy letter i'm getting that i just wanted you to see it authenticated but contrary to popular rumor which i attributed to fake news it was not balled up and thrown into the trash is that a reprint of another or reprint of the meeting reportedly took a turn when air to one surprise trump by whipping out its i pad to show them
10:45 pm
a video depicting kurds as terrorists whereupon senator lindsey graham got hot reportedly asking the turkish president well you want me to go get the kurds to make won about what you've done after which oddly graham then blocked senate consideration of a house resolution blaming turkey for the armenian genocide michel that was 1915 why now and what is this accomplish what an annual thing virtually in the congress and every every individual who created who criticizes turkey for the one $915.00 atrocity in armenia claims that they would vote for genocide but once they get in office like biden clinton and others they they don't vote for it and i don't think it's going to come the house has voted on it i don't think the senate will but if it happens it's a non-binding resolution. psychologically for the turks if that passes it will send
10:46 pm
shutters and i wouldn't doubt that in rip reprisal. area one would shut down air insular care base a very critical piece for us ouch also president senator ted cruz who released a statement saying turkey's assault against our kurdish allies who have a long history of standing with america against our enemies is absolutely on it's up to paul i also made it clear to president won that so long as turkey continues to a procure or deploy the s 400 air defense system from russia the u.s. will not sell f. 35 fighter jets to turkey and unpack that well it's it's it's pretty stupid because it's a standoff at this point but you and what trump has done this basically kick the can technically sanctions could be imposed right now because turkey has acquired the system what trump has basically said is only if you deploy will we cut you off
10:47 pm
now he has not resume he suspended f. $35.00 cooperation which has prompted a lot of putin of russia to offer. additional s. 400 and and joint production of the s 500 as well as sukhoi 30 five's in response to the f. 35 however i think and you say you'll see air to one now plane both in both both ends against the middle no kid oh yeah he's playing them both off and the reason for that is that he's trying to buy time why is he trying to buy time he's trying to buy time because he's concerned about the state of his own economy at this point his economy is almost in the toilet well he ran saying he was going to pump it up when he was prime minister number of times and then as president he promised to raise the economy and trump has threatened to destroy the economy if with sanctions so he's he's walk. in the thin line at the same time he's also holding out for something else and because of the economy he's he's working with china very closely
10:48 pm
with the b r i the bit belt road initiative and he's the linking now what's called the middle corridor initiative which is a whole series of highways and railways between china and europe and they're all going through anatolia and that is turkey and so he'll make lots of money off of that it'll help the economy but in terms of foreign investment direct investment it's gone down markedly from the united states even in europe but it's beginning to rise from china and so he's holding out and trying to do better on the economy and that's that's that's where i think he's playing this balancing act but he's walking a tight rope very much whole economic corridor there is not denominated in u.s. dollars so it's not legit keeping us up to speed on this michael maloof thank you for stepping into the big picture thank you always appreciate your perspective it's beginning to look a lot like christmas everywhere you go and again this year tech gifts will be under
10:49 pm
the tree in its annual holiday tech spending forecast the consumer technology association is forecasting $97100000000.00 in murcia and if your center is stumped you'll want to hear their survey data on gifts we hope to receive this year we will tell all one else on our black friday show and this week a sneak peek at one item that is new to the gift list something that will be much appreciated and requires no gadget savvy to shop for 4 in 10 adults surveyed plan to give subscriptions to streaming video services and every thinking netflix you're only scratching the surface there is an all out war going on and major players like a t. and t. comcast and disney are weighing in with a dizzying array of options here to help us sort it out is invested in. journalist ben swan ben 30 percent of netflix subscribers surveyed by the wall street journal
10:50 pm
say they're likely to cancel in the next 3 months to make way for new services so the incumbents are bracing for the challengers thumbnail the major players for us yet so this is really interesting because when you say streaming everyone thinks netflix right that's the one that you're going to like scotch tape absolutely it almost becomes a name brand but when you look at all the others that are emerging now of course the biggest being disney plus just coming along apple plus is now releasing their new form of apple t.v. which really is pretty content poor at this point as opposed to disney which is so much content they have so much stuff they don't even know what to do with it all in d.c. universe will be releasing theirs within the next few years and as part of that they're taking the office from netflix and they're put into the into their own streaming service the number one show by the way on netflix is the office so it's a pretty significant deal there there are a lot of different choices here and that's just for original content streaming we're not even talking about all the sports options that are also a part of the streaming process like e.s.p.n. plus fox sports everybody's got their own now the problem that you're running into
10:51 pm
is when you talk about cable right remember the whole issue with cable i have 200 or 500 channels and nothing on t.v. right problem well we're kind of getting to that point with streaming you've got so many options and you have people say well i may have 10000 titles on netflix but let's see what there is on h.b.o. now which also by the way is about to release a whole new streaming platform called h.b.o. max and then of course they are not near as large in terms of the content library but it's premium content i mean amazon prime and the return on the investment is worth it just for the free shipping but i open up their video menu and it is as intimidating as netflix i end up retreating back to directv because i just can't decide if there is an abundance of choice to lemon out there and they're there really is and what's really interesting about amazon because amazon prime probably has. some of the least best content now they've had a few hits you know jack ryan is one of the shows has done very well however what
10:52 pm
amazon also has these other streaming services don't have is the same size bucket of money so right listen netflix has plenty of cash disney obviously has plenty of cash and a content library amazon has so much money they don't even know what to do with it all what i would say is we look to what amazon does next they have made an interesting move into picking up certain parts of thursday night football and sunday night football right which airs specific games on amazon prime which you get to watch for free and watch over the next couple of years as those n.f.c. a.f.c. contracts n.b.a. contract major league baseball to an end that's right all of a sudden instead of it being fox network c.b.s. networks that get these watch amazon make a run for some of these because if they can move that to streaming complete game changer well they are already testing the waters because this past baseball season we've seen a couple of games on social media platforms which were merely simulcast in the
10:53 pm
team's regular broadcast so they've had a chance to weigh this can you foresee a time in the future where watching the super bowl on t.v. will no longer be free because these rights fees are going through the roof well i think that's very possible the problem is is that everyone once content for free so we're willing to pay a subscription service as long as you give us enough content because it feels like we're getting lots of content under a pretty small umbrella price but you start to couple all these things you have if you have a netflix if you have the apple plus if you have the hulu if you have now disney plus h.b.o. go or h.b.o. mats now you're starting to get into $45100.00 a month for subscription services and then what how do you make the choice what do i cut and what do i keep and that's where we're also going to see it's a very good time to be a content creator because these streaming services need original content because that's what drives eyeballs there has not only never been more. or work for writers producers actors directors the lighting guys everybody but what about the reruns
10:54 pm
they lose the office and netflix pays a reported half 1000000000 plus right for seinfeld episodes right we've been watching since the ninety's well it's really interesting when you when you think about the audience that the office had when it when it 1st launched it obviously did very well on n.b.c. but there is an entire generation of americans now who did not watch it on its 1st run right college students and teenagers today my kids are among these very my daughter who's in college she and all of her friends are obsessed with the office they watch it season after season on the man over and over and over again and so there is a new life that comes to some of these programs that while they were popular at one time because of the way that binge watching happens they become take on a kind of a whole new life of their own even the original stuff that has been produced breaking bad i was the last person i noticed started it but i could start it when i wanted to i could resume back to it when i wanted to this binge watching which
10:55 pm
seemed novel seems to be the new norm now well and might even become the new norm of that norm is that netflix is actually testing right now a feature that allows you to watch it doubled the speed it will says if you're fast already but you can still make out the audio it plays by a lot of content creators and directors angry about that because they say they're ruining the art of whatever they've created by having people watch it doubles i can't wait to see the irishman but i have the stars want to go see it in the theaters so their box office numbers look good but it drops on the 27th on netflix to nero to chino joe pass she this is as big a production as we think in terms of original streaming programming how about this experimentation where they try it in the theaters then you watch it or we're going to see more throwing spaghetti against the wall with consumption like and you'll devon. we see more of the experiment the spearmen taishan of the whole thing what's
10:56 pm
interesting is a lot of directors and folks in hollywood have complained that for instance the marvel universe has killed hollywood right because it's so thematic and there's no art to it it's all green screens in c.g.i. and they complain about that but if you look at it from a different perspective the marvel universe is in some way saved theaters because you know one of those is certainly watch that movie when it comes out right the latest marvel movie at home in front of netflix where you might watch some of these others that are a little more artsy those are from the comfort of your home but if you want to watch the big blockbusters with the sound effects and all that you want to watch that theater still what's become clear is that nobody loves their cable company except for internet access and if you're shopping around you should go to cord cutters news dot com we've had their founder luke boom on it's a great buyer's guide check out sling t.v. and you tube t.v. you can compare side by side what you get and before you spend a dime on anything make sure you've got the pluto t.v.

those who consume corporate media will believe the bolivian army rightfully overthrew the democratically elected president of bolivia the word coup is not mentioned but this is exactly what happened the tried and tested color revolution playbook was on display for anyone paying attention libya's democracy is in retreat . is a tense situation in venezuela is still all over the news the problem in venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented but that socialism has been faced only implement from the inside venezuela things are different we're going to announce sanctions against petroleum venezuela associated. bonus will have a son of the moment those who flew down that. battle so on the present.
