it's time to fight for the middle for the truth the time is now for watching closely watching the hawks. saturday's r.t. headlines the u.s. and china announce the 1st phase of a trade deal that aims to overcome the long running. britain's conservative party's biggest election victory in more than 30 years the scottish national party also by a landslide north of the border. to independence calls they're looking to the possible repercussions and. the un accuses the chilean army of human rights violations during a crackdown on anti-government protesters.

this saturday welcome to r.t. international a news update with the. united states and china have approved a phase by phase trade deal they want to cut tariffs on chinese goods while boosting american farm exports to china it follows a bruising 19 month trade war between the world's 2 largest economies more now from kaleb open. well rumors have been circulating for the past few days that some kind of deal was in the works to resolve the trade disputes between the usa and china the idea being that the tariffs would be scaled back in exchange for tens of billions of dollars of agricultural products and other things being purchased from the united states and some concessions on china's part now in response to these rumors that we heard the democrats speaking up this was chuck schumer reports say president sold out for a temporary unreliable promise from china it's a purchase some soybeans we've heard this song and dance from china before yet again president trump company relied on to do the right thing even when his
5:02 am
statements were pointing in the right direction now we then heard from donald trump speaking up about how this was simply fake news this is what he said the wall street journal story on the china deal is completely wrong especially this statement on tariffs fake news they should find a better lead but just a few hours afterwards we heard china come forward with an official press conference announcing that phase one of the deal was on the verge of being implemented this is what we heard from the official chinese press conference. the agreement will create better conditions for china and the united states to strengthen cool an economy and trade property monies unresolved economic and trade differences asa and promote growth of china's economic and trade relations given the. economy now trump spoke up afterwards saying that essentially china had agreed to a number of structural changes and would be purchasing a u.s.
5:03 am
agricultural products as well as energy and manufactured goods also said that he was hoping to begin work on phase 2 of the agreement but he would want to do that immediately not wait until 2020 this trade war has been escalating between the united states and china sense june of 28 teen there's been an escalation of tariffs many many different you know regulations being put in place and different products being targeted but it seems that some kind of resolution is in the works so we now have an agreement of some degree so folks we're waiting to see what happens next there has been hope before the trade war was going to be resolved and those hopes of then been shortly afterward disappointed so what comes next it remains to be seen but at the moment many are optimistic that it appears that things are moving forward well see america broke down the deal to explain why it's perhaps too early to talk about any real success just yet. is this deal going to end up being no
5:04 am
different than what these 2 countries had to begin with in fact if i take something away from you and then i give it back to you i didn't really give it to you exactly and this was actually the exact same thing that was on the table back in march if you remember the trade i was on the table back in march like we said we will buy more ads you take back our tax this is exact same thing and trump was like no we demand ip protection we demand rights here and american companies in china you need to restructure your government to not handle private corporations he demanded all of these things and now china was like no we're not going to do that and look at the terms of phase one here it's so vague and all of those things are take. the only thing that actually legit lee on the table are is literally purchases and rollback of tariffs so the chinese want us to take back or roll back as you say are we did we roll them all bartz or not all of them not all of more rollbacks so the main sticking point of why this had to happen today aside from the fact that there was also some impeachment stuff going on right so you kind of take over the news but aside from that as of sunday about $160000000000.00 worth of new tariffs are
5:05 am
going to be added to chinese goods and the reason that trump and is needed to get something done today is because had that been enacted for the 1st time american consumers were going to start feeling this trade deal in a negative way and he doesn't want that base one isn't is a non deal right now this is a deal for public consumption it's just a face really the crux of it is face to face 3 and right now in order to save even more face trump said phase 2 is going to be great based is going in and. we will see how phase one turns out. or is johnson's conservative party is celebrating an historic victory in the u.k.'s general election the prime minister says it gives him a powerful mandate to deliver breaks it in the other quarter though the poll delivered the worst result for the labor party since the 1930 s. hoping to draw a line under years of bitter nation wide division johnson appealed for the healing to begin but his triumph mobilized hundreds to turn out for angry protests.
5:06 am
demonstrators in london set off flares and clashed with police chanting not my prime minister boris johnson has to go they gathered in front of downing street and marched through central london there were also similar scenes in glasgow scotland there it's been a decisive win for the scottish national party which is reignited their calls for another referendum for independence from the u.k. and discuss the election and its consequences with correspondent daniel hoare kids . the polls are predicting a tory majority throughout the election campaign but not to this extent i mean labor's been decimated losing your key seats in the northern heartlands of the midlands although many of them seats which voted labor for 3050 even close to 100 years so this is very much been a defeat for labor based really on lot of people are saying on the question of brics it went in with a very clear message get bricks it done it was very clear very simple it resonated with those areas with those communities that voted to leave and we've heard michel barnier say no way we're going to get
5:07 am
a trade deal signed with britain by the end it will be $21.00 boris johnson so it's going to be well that's the thing i mean no trade deal of this size or complexity has been negotiated with the e.u. ever and he's saying that we're going to come out by genevieve the difference we've been going until june 2022 negotiate this deal it's also could be ratified of course by the $27.00 member states if that doesn't happen the prospect of a new deal bricks come this time next year is that very much on the table big spoke in the works along the line what's going to happen on the border between northern ireland or the republic of ireland that's still not sorted up plus there's the whole scottish question are kicking off even more nationalist parties have done fantastically well in this election i mean speaking of ireland the deputy leader. dogs lost his seat to the new can for the 1st time since 1921 this is the violent nationalists now outnumber unionist s.n.p. again a whole different kettle of fish certainly no disunity in scotland they were very clear they wanted to remain in the e.u. the s.n.p. has capitalized on that and made massive gains 48 seats won 8 percent increase last
5:08 am
night we saw nicolas 13 jubilant dancing in fact when the leader just wins and lost her seat and this is what she had to say on independence referendum last like a stunning election win last night for the s.n.p. renew reinforces and strengthens the mandate we have through previous elections to offer the people of scotland a choice over the future that mandy see. is that it is for the scottish parliament nor a waste minister government to say whether and when this should be a new referendum on independence the office of prime minister saying there's got no intention of allowing a friend in the near future that you've results the 20. has to be respected and there will be a return to division and uncertainty so he's been an unequivocal that's not a priority that's not going to happen s. and p. they're already preparing to sit down next week and publish what they describe as a detailed democratic case for letting scotland aside and whether there should be
5:09 am
a 2nd independence referendum so boris johnson isn't going to have it easy he may have his hands untied he may you know have lost the opposition of his own m.p.'s of labor he's got difficult negotiations coming up and he's got the question of scottish independence and in deep trouble in northern ireland as well to deal with that in the wake of that conservative cleaned up hour to u.k. discuss what it all means for the all but inevitable breaks it. it to all intents and purposes this election in became a practice of election which in itself was a de facto referendum and therefore in that context it is somewhat a stand in to say that labor voters and tradition like that in areas such as the or west brom and should. embrace the conservative party in a mini large majorities than than in the leafy suburbs the sorry i don't see a referendum taking place now you know if it's a case of ever wanting to rejoin the e.u. it will be as an absolute assadi from a position of great obliqueness breck's it was probably because syces factor in
5:10 am
most voters' minds but there were a few other issues i mean it's fairly obvious that the labour's policies were quite hard left and i think that probably didn't resonate quite so well with as much as the public as they had hoped some of the policies were a little bit a little bit extreme to say the least so that was probably part of it but i think yes the predominant issue was was bracks it and the conservative party presented the way forward the certainty in the resolution and the end to the torment and frustration and confusion that we've been suffering for the last few years of course it doesn't mean that the process is finished but i think the 1st stage and crucially the political element of it is now resolved the. united nations is accusing the chilean army and police of committing human rights violations during a crackdown on protests investigators highlighted cases of unlawful killings and
5:11 am
torture here are the key findings. oh. yeah. and. human rights violations documented by c.a.g.r. include the excessive force and this is 3 use of force that led to unlawful killings and injuries arbitrary detentions and torture and ill treatment thousands have been demonstrating since mid october demanding an overhaul of the constitution the chilean government has called the un report disappointing it said
5:12 am
the deaths happened in situations of extreme violence caused by the protesters the unrest was initially triggered by a hike in public transport costs but snowballed into a nationwide movement for social reform the government imposed a state of emergency and deployed troops on the streets. getting money i mean that we deeply regret the allegations each of them is being or will be investigated i want to emphasize the needs to introduce a state of emergency from a situation of violence today and not peaceful demonstrations as some have tried to claim the police they keep the. ignore. say leave it where are. they have no in the early kind of paid to go home and the very adamant or continuing to pressure protests will continue for the 1st time been. the instigator more profits the people are very seriously does. he just say that
5:13 am
the garment crash very very systematically. i mean. if you were to vote for an 8th wonder of the world would you pick german trains or buses for that well in a surprise move the transport authority for unesco world heritage status although the company jokingly admits that it's sometimes known for overcrowding it's somewhat room service it says the transport system is the only place left in the rapidly changing city web still eventually takes a closer look. what does the. transit system have in common well nothing but. be sharing the spot and you know schools heritage list the people who could. be full.
5:14 am
to teach the whole. transit authority has applied for world heritage status and wants to be included on the same list of some of the world's most fascinating architectural monuments but what makes the berlin transit system so special the appeared. design side. it's certainly convenient and even runs 24 hours a day on fridays and saturdays but if you've ever been on one of their subways you'll realize that the could be a little bit frost the. education which would. be a bit. of a good thing. so customer service is not really their thing. the overcrowding and the long delays so we went around asking berliners what they think about their transit system and whether it should be included on heritage list
5:15 am
it's. one of the oldest so i think you have to save it and to use it it's been a great transportation to use but i don't know if it's exactly on taj mahal level why not because it's an it's a quite old system in and in germany the ground system and. underground stations look like huge because here it's i don't think it should be however he's shown it isn't. it's a service rather than a truck or instruction with people already saying yes on the company's website the whole unesco right it could indeed have some traction but it could also just be a ticket to promote the city's public transit network so remember next time you're angrily to a bus by your driver or you're already limited space is being invaded on one other subways this could all be part of a world heritage experience eventual slips us for artsy. mobile news ahead

for you this saturday facebook's being accused of risking public health of a misleading ads about hiv prevention drugs will take you through that in just a couple of minutes.
5:17 am
join me every thursday on the alex salmond field and i'll be speaking to us from the world of politics or business i'm show business i'll see you then. it's being claimed that facebook is causing harm to public health an open letter signed by dozens of health advocates and l g b t rights groups is demanding that the social media platform drop ads that misinformed people about the effects of using the hiv prevention drug truvada. the advertisements are targeting. facebook and instagram users and are causing
5:18 am
significant harm to public health the signers of this letter request that facebook and instagram remove the advertisements and also publicly address the misinformation that the platforms have allowed to spread. the letter also says that at risk people expressed heightened fears about taking the drug after seeing the ads potentially leading to avoid hiv infections the adverts placed by multiple nor firms urged gay and bisexual men to join a lawsuit against the drug maker claiming that it caused harmful side effects but facebook says that the adverts do not violate their rules but their policy also states that in some cases they can be removed if an expert organization debugs the claims matthew rose from the hiv advocacy organization health gap criticized facebook for not doing enough. i myself have been taking the drug for 6 years now and have seen 0 side effects on the drug facebook is promoting an ad that makes it really hard to allow people to have a really powerful and really safe new prevention option their 1st exposure to this
5:19 am
pale is that it is day. injurious this is misleading false and also only harming public health and the efforts to hiv pandemic globally they want to act like they are the biggest game in town and they are but that means that you have some ethical responsibilities when it comes to certain areas you need to throw more accurate things about health you need to do some more things about news you claim that you are a news outlet for people in place and people get news but refused to fact check or even engage in the notion and allow people to spread lies that are harmful to people's public health so it's a civil discourse and they until this is a democracy. germany slammed us sanctions targeting companies assembling the north stream to gas pipeline that's the major underwater network running from russia to europe through the baltic sea covers more than a 1000 kilometers in means that moscow doesn't have to transit gas to the e.u. through ukraine the german parliament's economic affairs and energy committee
5:20 am
chairman says berlin should respond with similar tariffs on america. if the u.s. keeps trying to obstruct the north stream project i suggest responding with a punitive tariffs on german imposed american gas things cannot continue like this after if we impose punitive tariffs on us gas sales will fall on the us will have to reflect on his actions the energy projects long been a stumbling block between the you in the united states washington thinks it leaves europe to energy dependent on russia or the german foreign minister says it's up to berlin not the u.s. to decide how to conduct their country's energy policy. european policy is decided in europe not in the u.s. we crucially reject external interference and sanctions with extra territorial effect. the us isn't happy that we are not by now i guess they want to boost their own trade and that's why they are imposing sanctions on companies involved in building a pipeline that firstly american liquefied natural gas is obtained through fracking
5:21 am
which makes its own acceptable for germany and secondly it is much more expensive them rushing down the natural gas we get from russia is high in demand and due to falling production in europe the demand has only increased so we plan to import more of it this is why north stream 2 is so important the americans have tried to interrupt our oil and gas trade with russia from the outset and yes we have managed to cooperate for many years without interruption so both sides need this and we plan to continue whether the us likes it or not the environmental activists have staged a rally in madrid in front of a venue hosting a united nations climate conference. protesters chanted slogans and voiced their disappointment over a lack of any breakthrough agreements at the international event the un's $25.00 was held to discuss ways to tackle concerns about climate change. that are jarius

capital thousands took to the streets on friday protesting the results of the recent presidential election that the former prime minister and establishment figure who was elected president in a poll seen by many algerians as a continuation of the old undemocratic regime demonstrations originally began in february after the country's 82 year old former president announced that he would run for the 5th time after being in power for 2 decades. from 1000 smartphones have been destroyed by employees of a french phone recycling company workers a remade which is struggling to stay in business protesting working conditions counter-spies. many more devices if bosses refuse to deal with that complex. and that's it from a union and he'll save in the coming hours to keep you updated on the stories we're across here at say this saturday for may though and the rest of the moscow news to have a great weekend. huawei

washington has all we have coming up the u.s. and china have a deal on phase one of the trade agreement but markets aren't sure how to respond the reason for that is because of the lack of actual details were about to separate rumors from fact in a way you won't see anywhere else watch at all regulators are considering filing an injunction against facebook to block the merging of what's out instagram and facebook into one app service slow break down whether the feds have a case. and zimbabwe's president says that while the country's currency is not working even the nation is not going to go back to backing from the u.s. dollar so is crypto the answer so much to get to today. so let's get started. and we begin with an agreement on phase one of the u.s. trade deal which will prevent a new round of tariffs set to take place on sunday the announcement was made by washington on friday and they confirmed by china though let's face it both sides are being pretty light on specifics and that's being kind there are so few details being given that the markets today frankly seemed confused so let's head to the
5:27 am
wall to break down exactly what has been agreed to here because as i mentioned one of the few specifics here actually does come from president trump which states that both sides have agreed to quote a very large phase deal phase one deal with china adding that 25 percent tariffs on chinese imports would remain in place but that the 15 percent levies on other goods would be cut in half so here's what both sides actually said this morning listen. this is a very large deal the china deal covers tremendous manufacturing farming a lot of rules regulations a lot of things are covered it's a phase one deal but a lot of big things are covered and i say affectionately the farmers are going to have to go out and buy much larger tractors because it means a lot of business a tremendous amount of years as. the agreement will help improve cooperation between china and u.s. in economy and trade effectively manage of the differences in economy and trade
5:28 am
areas staples development of the economy and trade really. great selling a lot of words words words but what are the specifics but we do know this that the new round of tariffs totaling $160000000000.00 that were set to be imposed on sunday on chinese goods will not happen so how is the market responded well pretty positively today with the market up friday but then kind of back down again the markets are confused too let's bring back in my co-anchor because the i and boom bust correspondent sarah month as they ok christy i'll start with you because here's the thing so much about the straight talk right we know about has been about getting this deal done and last week the president made a. statement that things one of the deal he said was going to be done until after the 2020 election then the markets crash and so we jump back on that don't at all not true we're very very close to a deal and then we're sitting there today friday and we're looking at the possibility of these new tariffs being imposed so they get a deal done but no one saying specifically what is in the deal what do we know so
5:29 am
right now the markets don't know anything and that's why today all day the markets start off in the negative and right now as a closing market today the markets unchanged the s. and p. is pretty much flat the dow is completely flat and the reason is the markets don't know how to digest this information it's not exactly positive if you don't know what the specifics are it's kind of like getting an earnings report saying that the company beat but what are the margins like how do they grow did they grow at all like you're not getting any of the meat so you really don't know how to trade this environment and you getting a rollback in tears but not completely rollback and there's absolutely no indication that he won't be implemented tariffs again so you're getting a deal that has absolutely no enforcement whether on the u.s. side are trying to china cannot force us to never protest on them again not to implement if they don't bring back x.y.z. and us has an absolutely no forcible action on china in order to where any of these i p i p trade talks or any so everything they're saying right president trump is saying everything's there that's been said by by china sounds like they were
5:30 am
talking when they were negotiating the deal it's not the way you sound when you have a deal done right you should be walking out now and saying all right here it is folks the very very specific terms of the agriculture is a big part of this right and we know that as part of this. administration had said they wanted $50000000000.00 in additional agricultural buy in from china for 2020 that would have doubled the amount that they're supposed to be getting whether they got in 2017 they said they wanted that if you watch other business shows today there say you know the deals done but what makes this show different right is we're looking for facts there is no evidence so far that i have been able to find that. or maybe that you have found indicates that that actually has happened right so neither side has actually confirmed the u.s. trade representative's office released a statement in that statement nowhere does it say what that figure it looks like as far as more agriculture the $50000000000.00 that's a huge number like you said $27000.00 now.
