as soon as they locked me up inside the box i tried my best to sit up but in vain for the box was too short i tried to take it curled position but to no avail for it was too tight the very strong pain made the screen unconsciously. they kept pouring water and concentrating on my nose and my mouth until i really felt i was drowning and my chest was just about to explode from the lack of oxygen . and the. long hours went by while i was standing in that position my hands were tight to the

after one of being some small clashes between the police come to the protesters as you can see it's all round us was this march was only going oh i started saying i can use to plastic or not if you will which kind of apparently meant. just to get through that gas as it is so nasty that gas the police have been warned is dangerous silly news here in france rise you can see everybody's trying to come back up to plus the international to get away from the tear gas filling the skirmishes between the police and the protest is
3:07 pm
a protest that's been going on no strike for once in his good week a strike that was sparked by the protests reforms that the government has announced and one that is showing the general malaise him front it's not just about pensions this is about so much more the health system says it's creaking teachers are unhappy even at times the police have been out processing i've changed the reforms over mcewan's government says i'm here today because we have problems with financing for hospitals we have lots of expenses and the right constraints when it comes to procuring materials and recruiting stuff we're here today to say that we'll about public hospitals and the want to save them. the working conditions of health. it's very difficult for us to live properly on our current salaries there's been no change it's just a trauma. here in solidarity with everyone who's been affected by that reform

which is the vast majority of people. everybody should be protesting against them for they want to work more or less you know it's an accepted was actually. been told that our pensions will be ridiculously small and this your home would make the situation even worse you can see the police start forming a line just on the street that we were in just a few moments ago the street where all the tear gas was being fired pushes out of it you can see they've formed a huge line the police with white helmets on and in fact they look like they've cordoned off most of the streets around where. sounds like some grenades going off of than tear gas there. but what was very calm protest just within a few minutes is descended into. just a difficult place to be what we notice is in the last half an hour now some of

those what they call the the castors the thugs the break is the police said the ultra. left but they're also sometimes known as the black blocs they have actually been systematically hitting points up their street so we saw a post office being attacked many of the bus shelters being attacked as well as just general restaurants in fact at one point when they were breaking some of the glass on the advertising boards by some of those guys came up and try to harass my cameraman because they thought he was filming them he wasn't but they were incredibly aggressive and that's because they are very sensitive about being filmed when they're carrying out any. there destruction work we saw that continuing for about half an hour and it's only now as we got to plastic that the police have responded with back here gas and then cordoned this area to try and keep all of the

protesters in the government says it won't do a u. turn on the changes to the pension system that people say that they remain on strike but for the moment this strike has turned gnostic once again in paris charlotte even ski r.t. paris years you can see for yourself once again really harry let's not forget this is a weekday in a major capital in europe well after a series of a riff injuries against protesters it's come to light now the french authorities were warned of the dangers of using tear gas grenades against demonstrators as far back as last january elsa texas the company that makes the military grade devices wrote apparently to the french interior ministry about the safety risks of its grenades being used by riot police the blast a fact of the devices produced by an expose of substance are likely to maim or mortally injure an individual well those within 10 sound effects can cause irreversible hearing damage the resumption of production is impossible without

see that there is no political will to stop this madness and no one in my opinion it is very cynical they do it on purpose they want to dissuade people from the most rating and from showing their anger and during this yellow vests protest they preventively for instance arresting people because they were carrying swimming classes in order to protect their their eyes from sheer gas it is a way of through bitching the most ration wide preventing it from being massive. magazine newsweek to the spotlight after a former reporter claims he quit when editors threw out his story on a chemical attack investigation in syria that are very public row between the outlet and terakhir dads intensified we heard from the germans for his version of events as i kept pushing to try and do the story because i feel like it's of
3:14 pm
extreme you know public interest the attacks on me and it is a kind of nit picking on on certain things i was doing in my articles but it was purely on just to be able to attack me in an email so after i kept pushing kept pushing the century was told a couple alarms about why they wouldn't run the o.p.c. w. story and then it was a long list of things i've done personally wrong and i was very unhappy about this because you know i've never experienced like this something like this in my in my germs from career. derek's a right to a freelance journalist to join news we can turn but this year just 2 months of that he quit after pitching a story he said on a report by the global chemical watchdogs handling of the alleged chemical attack in syria's doomer the outlet rejected it though and her dad's no fears a legal battle for publishing the exchange of corporate emails it followed whistleblowers claiming facts have been misrepresented by the o.p.c. globally regarding. pitched the idea to its editors to write about watchdogs leaked

e-mails a reminder that the conclusions of all that the report lead to the united states front page briefly conducting air strikes against syria militant targets terror to get believed his pay shows the failings of the mainstream media. let's look at the evidence that we have available to us at the moment there are scientists from a nonpolitical body of the united nations. that say that their report their findings from a chemical weapon site were not representative in the in the final report that was released to the world to me this is you know doesn't really need explaining why this is a newsworthy story is that these organizations have taken a long time for us to get here in terms of a historical point of view when we shouldn't be weaponized in them to kind of create the public opinion needed to go to war of the moment there are very few. well mainstream western journalists that are reporting on this so i would say this complete failure of the media. you know our job as journalists are to hold
3:16 pm
governments to account and if governments are going to war on false premises then. we have good evidence to suggest that now and no one is reporting it then we're not doing our job as journalists a footnote to this is the magazine itself news which gives a statement saying had pitched a conspiracy theory they said they couldn't run because it goes against objective reporting. now next. between a rock and a hard place america's family friendly hallmarked t.v. channels apologize for pulling a commercial featuring a same sex couple and his promise to create more inclusive content after it the company division which operates the network says it's been a tough call all round this one the crown media team has been agonizing over this decision as we've seen the hurt is has unintentionally caused our mission is rooted in helping all people connect summer break traditions and be inspired to capture meaningful moments in their lives we are truly sorry for the hurt and disappointment this has caused. the apology comes after the child pulled an ad for

a wedding planning website featured a gay couple getting married sparking complaints the you'll things all the could've made planning your perfect wedding easier we did. reach out to new orleans couples plan registry and invitations get started for free and sell it back on the overt spread of petition indeed by the christian conservative group 1000000 moms it called on whole mark to not show any pro l g b t content told the channel claiming it went against the values of its target audience however the removal caused a backlash on social media too and then channel executives did a u. turn changed their minds but if i call again earlier i spoke to media commentator gina loudon and human rights activist peter tatchell about the row. this was just a handful that sought to include women who love each other and that is a fact of life and you know christmas is all about love and coming together you know i can understand what the fuss is about you know if i saw a card or
3:18 pm
a verse or anything with a man or woman kissing i think beautiful wonderful i love it they were viewers they were watching it they were thinking hey you know if i'm going to talk to my children about sexual orientation i'd like to have that conversation with them one on one i don't really want it to come in the form of a christmas commercial and that to some people is understandable and it doesn't mean that they were necessarily bigoted or that this was in any way anti-gay it might just be that they wanted to be the ones to have that conversation with their 5 year old is there any reason why a channel which describes itself as family friendly shows 1st 2 shows this year it once and children families together on the t.v. popcorn watch is there a reason to describe it in the cells is that they should take a bit more care not to offend people that may be offended most young kids get it. when they see 2 people in love young kids don't think you know man woman boy girl that they think of love and these were about love not about 6 about
3:19 pm
love and i would have thought in a modern mature democracy we're a bit of a celebrate love in its many forms is this the time of year where we want to be making political statements during you know it is a holiday season where we sitting around the fire with our families you know having having a good time and maybe not thinking so much about l g b t or even abortion or other things that might be more of a political statements almost apologise for pulling the did they need to apologize i think they did yes because it's quite offensive to say that you know an image of 2 women in love is somehow not fit and proper for a broadcast channel in this day and age. by putting the ad that was a deep insult an assertive rejection of the many same sex couples who do love each other and love each other just as much as any husband and wife you get pushback
3:20 pm
that is from a political action group be it conservative or liberal what you're really getting is a falsely inflated political pushback from people that aren't necessarily your viewers when you hear the pushback initially from the viewer saying you know hey we're we're moms we're watching your network and we don't want this on there my guess is that the majority of that was probably organic. this is new in few in what may prove to be a major setback for transatlantic relations the u.s. senate's approved a sanctions bill targeting companies of 0 to the north stream 2 part one project i can use again the measure aimed at disrupting russian efforts to increase the supply of gas to europe is expected to be signed into law by president trump later this week let's go at least on this. really new in what we know about what's in the sanctions bill well given this is another milestone in the so-called u.s. mission to protect europe from russia's natural gas and cap you may want to ask me
3:21 pm
what are you talking about because europe does need russian fuel to stay warm well let me just tell you. if we're looking at it from the washington standpoint if the russian national gas is delivered to european countries through old pipelines which go through poland or ukraine itself line no problem but if russia is an energy giant gazprom wants to diversify its way to deliver the fuel to deliver what it sells to european countries through pipelines modern pop lines like north stream or north stream to which almost been complete that's a disaster they say that would get europe hooked on. gas needled that's what they call it so let's just listen to how a u.s. senator who's behind the sanctions bill once put it. this pipeline if completed.
3:22 pm
would make europe even more dependent on russian energy would generate billions of dollars for putin billions of dollars that would fund the russian military aggression. so we learned that now the u.s. senate has approved a 2020 national defense authorization act which includes a bill which penalizes the companies that are involved in the construction of the pipeline but by far when we're talking about the north these are not only russian companies there are a lot of german companies and that's a direct route for russian natural gas to germany because if we think about it indeed many companies many european businesses are interested in it because they are keen to get a direct more reliable route for their fuel to be delivered there i can tell you by the way that russian officials how big the u.s.
3:23 pm
of unfair competition and basically the message from moscow has been that these guys are only looking for ways to sell their liquefied natural gas which is delivered on ships that's why it could become more expensive and so on and so you mentioned germany just a key country with a new how to devolve to remind us again what's reaction to be to america over this the once again the focus is on the brand new nord stream to pipeline which is by the way like i said is almost complete this is a direct route for russian natural gas from near st petersburg to germany to. the baltic sea and again germany's message has been we heard from their foreign minister once again he reiterated that these plans to impose sanctions by america are unacceptable. said last week was that it's another attempt by the americans to influence decisions in europe but i can tell you
3:24 pm
something that. more important because here it appears that the u.s. sanctions bill leaves a 30 day window for the companies to abandon their efforts to complete the construction of the pipeline and i can tell you that the german. while the german media. were referring to a document from. an internal document from the germany from the german economic energy ministry where it said that they believe the pipeline could be complete within this month which could prove which may end. up in a situation where the sanctions are pointless but of course nothing's pointless if it's devoted at the voter back is only half so you may be over the next 30 days but it most likely if we talk about reaction from germany it's silly if and we've got some more reaction germany's committee chief on economy and energy. told us is ready to respond to any suggestions imposed by washington listen to the. if you
3:25 pm
could. if the us keeps trying to obstruct the north stream project i suggest responding with punitive tariffs on german imports of american gas things cannot continue like this if we impose punitive tariffs on u.s. gas sales will fall on the us will have to reflect on its actions the us is unhappy that we are not buying their gas they want to boost their own trade and that's why they are imposing sanctions on companies involved in building the pipeline that the american liquefied natural gas is obtained through fracking which makes it an acceptable for germany and secondly it is much more expensive than rushing gas by the natural gas we get from russia is high in demand and due to falling production in europe the demand has only increased so we plan to import more of it this is why north stream 2 is so important because the americans have tried to interrupt our oil and gas trade with russia from the outset and yet we have managed to cooperate for many years without interruption to both sides need this and we plan to continue
3:26 pm
whether the us likes it or not the. u.s. has rejected their proposal by russia and china to ease international sanctions on north korea in exchange for a commitment from pyongyang to take steps towards denuclearization the suggestion was put forward in a draft u.n. security council resolution on monday more of it in addition to a loan the d.p. r. k. to export certain products then it goes on to suggest that into korean road and rail projects be exempted from the u.n. sanctions further it calls for a ban to be lifted on the employment of north koreans abroad all that said it's not known if or when this draft resolution be put to a vote to be adopted it would need the support of at least 9 u.n. security council member states in the absence of any vetoes or washington says sanctions relief would be premature at this stage because the been ramping up its missile testing this month ahead of a year end deadline it's given the u.s. to make concessions in their stalled nuclear talks and as for america as it stands at the moment heading into christmas they've insisted there are willing to
3:27 pm
compromise. the united states and the security council have a goal not a deadline we want to use this time we briefing to make crystal clear to the d.p. r. k. that its continued ballistic missile testing is deeply counterproductive to the shared objectives that the president trump in chairman camp had discussed on 2 occasions political analyst chris bambery told us both north korea and the u.s. have to meet each other halfway in order to try to break this current impasse in talks. i think the relations of really secular don't turn on the north korean side we've had these missile tests we're also having attacks on trumped by the north koreans on the american side we have an insistence that all sanctions must remain in place until complete demilitarized militarization and that sets up a situation of stalemate it takes 2 to tango and i think in this situation really one has that one of these countries hasta make some concessions to try to get the talks back on track some humanitarian guest gesture by the united states might help
3:28 pm
break this situation but at the moment what we're getting is that hardline message that really no compromises an offer from the united states. what is wise that's why things look at russia so much more to social media and kevin thanks to. the international knights kaiser and co raring to go there hey wait in the wings. after this quick break. join me every thursday on the alex salmond chill and i'll be speaking to guest of the world of politics sport i'm showbusiness i'll see that thank.
