serious accusations and now i think we can show you more live pictures there right there in the window and now i have to warn our viewers that while we do not control this transmission so we do apologize in advance if there's anything graphic that gets in the short but so far all we can see is charred remains of the plane it does look that the destruction was the plane is obsolete the destruction was imminent and it was absolutely complete it's not like with any crash landing now that you may look at that you may see it's not like with any crash landing when the plane just you can still see the plane. intact there's nothing intact about this. i'm afraid this is a lot of rescue services but i'm afraid with the confirmation from the foreign ministry from you the ukrainian foreign ministry i think it's safe to say that it is a search operation not a rescue operation i will be bringing you all the latest as we. many people were on

board condolences to friends and families of course of those affected by this recent tragedy for 6 we can see here there are at least dozens of people there at the site right now i know the early reports were pointing the finger at mechanical errors but at this point it's really too early to know anything lation i think we should just wait for the results of the official investigation which is bound to be conducted into this well into this tragedy. donna thank you for bringing us the latest on the. reports of the plane crash came just hours after he rounds fired dozens of ballistic missiles at 2 u.s. military bases in iraq iranian military is calling the move a revenge for the death of its top general kasem salmoni was killed in a u.s. drone strike last week.
12:41 am
for the latest on those missile strikes across live to our middle east correspondent paula slayer does it seem that the u.s. and iran are on the brink of war. well it certainly does and i must tell you that the news we perceived in the last few moments is alarming but we haven't had a moment to verify it we are hearing that the revolutionary guards have said that this morning's air strikes on an american base in iraq have seen some 80 people killed and some 200 people injured now we have no more information at that at this point as i say we've just received information we need to verify it no information if it's accurate and b. if indeed soldiers have been killed i'll be talking here about iraqis. soldiers or are we talking about american soldiers earlier we did receive however comments from the pentagon saying that no american soldiers had been killed but there was some kind of conflicting reports over whether or not iraqis had been had been injured in these strikes we've also heard from an american official who says that u.s.
12:42 am
radar tracked the missiles in flight and therefore personnel on the army base were able to take cover also saying that 4 of the 15 missiles that were fired by the rain ians failed in flight now we also understand that there were 2 american bases that were targeted the one base in the north of the country in erbil was not hit and the rockets landed in an empty field mia by but it was the other base known as our left side which is on the outside of baghdad that sort potentially these casualties that we're now beginning to hear about we also hear an international reaction pakistan has warned its citizens to exercise maximum caution when receiving reports of the philippines is evacuating its citizens from iraq that the level of alert has gone up to 4 which makes for mandatory evacuation iran however is stressing that it has told the united nations that it is taking all the united nations the united nations secretary-general that it is taking

a proportionate measures against any threat against force we are hearing from the radio foreign minister john howard zarif who says that iran's actions are in retaliation they are not seeking an escalation they do not want a war with the united states. iran to concluded proportionate measures in self-defense on the article $51.00 if you are in charge or charges and base from which coldly armed attack against our citizens and senior officials were launched we do not seek escalation or war but will defend ourselves against any aggression. now at the same time we have heard from the rainy and telecommunication minister he tweeted get the hell out of our region of course he's referring there to the united states the iranian revolutionary guards have been quite adamant in a statement that they issued this morning that this is a revenge attack for what happened on friday morning at the same time they have called the united states the great satan and warn that if there's any kind of

attack from the united states or from any allies in the region of the united states and its mentioned israel by name then they will retaliate as well. in response to the terrorist operations of the american invaders and the vicious assassination of the heroic commander of the kids force the islamic revolution god called iran successfully carried out operation martyrs sunni money we warned the great satan our good american regime that any further maoist mobilization will result in a more painful response. now the region is in a state of high alert we're also hearing warnings from several international leaders for the situation not to escalate there hasn't as of yet been any response from israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu no doubt he has been holding emergency meetings with his top security defense officials the israeli army remains in a state of highly in the north in the south of the country this is out of concern that iran might activate its proxies hamas in gaza or hizbullah in lebanon and that they

could strike against israel says you can well imagine the situation here extremely fluid extremely tense. artist paul swear that you for bringing us the latest on that. the u.s. federal aviation agency has banned all u.s. flights over the persian gulf over security concerns so far washington's response has been somewhat muted with donald trump tweeting so far so good. all is well missiles launched from around a 2 military bases located in iraq assessment of casualties and damage is taking place now so far so good we have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world by far i will be making a statement to morrow morning well we have a tweet from donald trump it begins with the phrase all is well followed by a statement that there is an assessment going on of the casualties and the damage done to us bases as a result of the attack by the iranian missiles furthermore we do have the white

a small money strolling viewed as the death of a national hero israel attracted vast crowds of mourners and at least $56.00 people were killed after being crushed in the crowd during tuesday's funeral procession for 2 decades all money served as the commander of iran's codes forces which is the external wing of the islamic revolutionary guard he played a crucial role in the rounds military decision making process and helped expand iran's role in the middle east. we now return to our breaking news of the plane crash in iran a ukrainian airlines 737 came down minutes after takeoff the moment of the crash was captured on video. when i joined in the studio by articles on the for all the latest we've just seen the video of the plane coming down itself and there's a lot of disturbing images and reporting on this story but tell us what we know at
12:52 am
this point in time well so far we have an official confirmation from ukraine's ministry of foreign affairs no survivors on board that plane as for the numbers as to how many people exactly were the exact number is not clear yet there's no official information of what is clear though is that that number would be a lot because at least 170 people are believed to have been on board all of that boeing that went down just southwest of tehran shortly after takeoff now you're looking at the pictures from the site right now i think those are live pictures by those the live pictures and you can clearly see all that's remaining all that remains of the jet is just charred debris and that said no it wasn't a crash landing or anything it was just a crash the plane was blown to pieces it looks and so normally one plane would crash land you had you'd at least see the whole intact or something you could see
12:53 am
recognizable parts of the plane this looks like it was just blown to pieces and if you remember the video we just showed you of the plane going down as it was going down this one if you look close enough this bright spot is alleged to be the plane itself going down and if you look closely you can see that it is already on fire made there so it wasn't something technical that forced the plane to go down so something went terribly terribly wrong shortly after takeoff causing the plane to catch fire this is the moment of the impact and of the plane exploding the massive explosion by. because of course the fuel tanks were filled with gasoline with jet fuel so obviously there was a lot of very very flammable stuff to burn and to explode but i think the 1st thing that the vesta geisha which is inevitable we'll have to look into is what happened midair what caused this plane to catch fire as it was taking as it was taking off
12:54 am
of course a lot of speculation there is a lot of speculation right now whether or not this is any how to ron's missile strikes on american targets in iraq there is no evidence as of now to suggest any link whatsoever so there will be there is no proof no reliable sources reporting this at all or so because the timing everyone is of course talking about that also right now absolutely and so all such reporting so all such reporting should be taken with a pinch of salt and it's better right now as it is still again we still don't even know how many people were on board so we don't even know like the basic found so it is very very early to speculate as to what caused the tragedy i mean we can we can scrape together some facts that we can see from video and photo for the journey from just because this is essentially evidence and we could use that to piece
12:55 am
together what and when it went wrong and how badly it went wrong and the answer is very very badly but again the investigation will have to look into what happened to the jet if that video that that alleged video of that footage is indeed of that jet then what caused it to catch fire and of course will deepest condolences to all the relatives and the families and friends. of course we're going to be following this very closely and as we've seen from the pictures it now looks like all of the search teams are just being tasked with taking the remains of those away who perished in the fire and we'll be finding more about that throughout the day the ukrainian president literally the lenski has already offered his condolences to everyone so the sad news sad news but it's official. thank you for staying across the latest for us. i will be taking a short break and we'll be back at the top of the hour with all of your headline news and more on this plane crash.
