hello and welcome across town for all things are considered i'm peter lavelle it seems like 2016 all over again bernie sanders is popular and doing well in the polls and the democratic establishment along with the donor class are nervous they're centrist politics just for a now throw in identity politics the problem for bernie this time around apparently is that he's not inclusive enough is the democratic primary being rick began. talking bernie sanders i'm joined by my guest joe concha in new jersey he's a media reporter and a column this for the hill in los angeles we have jamie right she is an attorney and a political strategist also in los angeles we cross the ron paul cone he is a comedian a frequent guest on the jimmy doris show is why. it was host of his own streaming
5:32 am
show get your news on with ron all right crosstalk rules in effect that means he can jump in anytime you want and i always appreciate joe let me go to you 1st you're a media critic what is the deal with bernie again i mean the disgrace at the democrat last democratic debate is obvious for everyone even the audience saw through it all here what is the deal here with bernie sanders is it because he's popular because he's in the high in the polls because it looks like they're polling the same thing they did in 2016 go ahead yeah bernie should be biting back at this a little bit more at the end but he definitely going after c.n.n. for the way they handled that debate and the bottom line is that bernie sanders is actually unite or of the left and right at least terms of media is concerned because whether you're talking about the huffington post here in the states whether we're talking about rolling stone or the daily caller or fox news everybody criticized the way that debate was handled in terms of some of the kairos that reused below bernie sanders that were clearly opinion and also obviously the end
5:33 am
with that moment with elizabeth warren which was to anybody who was remotely reasonably objective was absolutely staged and then for c.n.n. 24 hours later after you couldn't hear the conversation between warne and sanders to say that they obtained audio of that conversation how do you obtain something exactly when it was your audio when you were broadcasting it you're already have it archived it's not the film so they did that to extend the story to make themselves the story and if i'm bernie sanders right now yeah it is deja vu all 'd over again ok jamie did ok i guess i ask an obvious question and i mean obviously c.n.n. didn't equate itself very well how about elizabeth warren did she equator self very well through this go ahead you know look this is a dog situation whether or not war and manufactured this whole woman can't win presidency thing is neither here nor there at this point i think what she's trying to do is create the distinction between herself and sanders to draw. sanders.
5:34 am
supporters away from him and to her she's trying to tout this idea of like their systems here but sort of let's work with in them so that you think that it is that running honest is that being honest i mean you're saying it's neither here nor there i mean any american politics well i think when you really are when i don't you think we all should strive for it i mean you know you know we there's a big deal we'll make news ok all right let me go to that let me go to ron worth let me go to ron in los angeles here i mean. i think all of this to watch politics what we all know who bernie sanders is you know and he's a pretty consistent guy i'm a conservative i don't agree with him on most things obviously but it seems to me that he's being treated unfairly in a procedural way and the democratic party is treating him in a bad way like they did in 2016 and he is consistently been a socialist ok for lack of a better term all right can you say the same thing about elizabeth warren is this
5:35 am
an authentic position she has because if we look at her lineage and her life story obama way the new york times says she's a great storyteller i couldn't believe that almost fell out of my chair actually tell stories go ahead ron. yeah well 1st of all i want to just respond to something else from a little prior i don't usually like to speak in support. but here's an exception that debate the other night on c.n.n. was the worst display not just of a debate but of news and politics being broadcast on a platform that i have ever seen in my lifetime it was absolutely atrocious in so many ways not even just with the bernie sanders stuff i mean there were plenty of other for instances to i live tweeted the event and that was the only thing that maintain my sanity because that was at least funded do but elizabeth warren you know i think it was incredibly dishonest what elizabeth warren did and you look at
5:36 am
the timeline of it you know c.n.n. published this piece which is for anonymous sources then they had to double down on it because they didn't want to you know come out to be the scam that it was because then it makes them look bad and then for hours upon hours she was silent why was she silent as long as she was so that it could spread throughout the media. and you know politically liz warren she changes her mind about medicare for all depending on the week if you want to know where she is when it comes to policies or issues just flip a coin the only thing she's been consistent on politically in her entire career is being a republican which she was until the age of 47. very true let me go to joe you know joe i mean you and i are business that is cover media and you know we've heard over and over again for the last 3 years that donald trump is a serial liar and that's why he's a bad person that's why he should have never been elected and that's why i
5:37 am
shouldn't be reelected but i mean lisbeth warren has a big problem with the truth they're not on a 1st name basis considering her great story telling go ahead joe the storytelling obviously and the biggest one that everybody can read. her too when she said that she had indian heritage then took a d.n.a. test to prove that she had indian heritage that d.n.a. tests prove that she had won 1000 and 24th indian heritage which is about 2 times less than what i have so in other words in that she actually put those results out and then pulled them off her website months later but when she was obviously mocked and ridiculed over that but yet to the point around the way c.n.n. handled that debate it was stunning remember what the 1st question was to sanders which was senator standers i do want to be clear here this is abby philip the moderator you're saying that you know i told senator warren that a woman can never win an election and he said that is correct then the moderator turns to warren and says senator warner what did you think when senator sanders told you
5:38 am
a woman yeah when the election i guess it was like i was going to forgot everything that i said i remember what c.n.n. did 2016 they had debate questions funneled to the clinton campaign so yeah he should be saying guys are not doing any more debates on c.n.n. and this is why fox news should have got a debate at least one because i think chris wallace we could all agree would probably have some tougher sanctions and what we heard a couple nights ago you know jamie it wasn't going to jump in right now go ahead go ahead ron johnson. jamie said there was another for instance of that happening too when they brought up medicare for all and they said bernie you really need to attach a price tag on medicare for all now this panel we might not all agree on medicare for all i'm for it but you know bernie sanders went on to explain how the pricing of medicare for all would work like he explained it in that answer and then their next question was joe biden doesn't bernie need to give a price tag on medicare for all it's like are you listening to what the guy saying it was it was truly my feeling is it just been jamie go ahead jump in and it's very
5:39 am
i think it's very interesting that what's seen in sort of did was engaged in what i called sort of a villain izing i mean it's not a real word it's there in the dictionary but what i see to be evil. where they kind of went through they basically engaged in political messaging with not very much fact analysis or even research so you want us to what why did they bomb and jamie why are they doing that and why are they targeting bernie sanders. because they don't want him to win target look i don't think i want it but no he didn't well it didn't either but i did c.n.n. doesn't want them to want him to win also not just the democratic party go ahead jamie please it could be that they don't want bernie sanders to win or they could just being gauging at what i call a leg up in our ratings and figuring out ways to get more to sponsor says i mean i don't really know why c.n.n. did that you know they almost sounded a little bit like fox news to be honest i mean the pandering with it was the main
5:40 am
thing i'm really not sure well ok well i don't know why you're attacking fox news because they weren't allowed to hold any debate ok so i mean we don't know jack i guess my point in my go ahead finish up go ahead finish jamie finish and go ahead you know i was simply going to say my point being is that sometimes i actually watch all of the networks i watch b.b.c. fox and c.n.n. to get my news so i can get a complete story sometimes fox is a sort of contorted view just like c.n.n. does i think it just depends on the host and the day and the topic ok joe you want to jump in go ahead oh yeah just as far as the pandering to trump comment i remember 2016 i covered it closely in terms of the debates and all i know is that donald trump the not like the questions that came from chris wallace and bret baier particularly making kelly to the point where he actually boycotted a fox news debate yet a couple months later because of that so i'm not sure that fox during the debates in 2016 to pander to him in any way actually they asked him the toughest questions of any of the networks so i think what we do often is we conflate fox opinion which
5:41 am
obviously is to the right and fox news division which i think is the strongest of the 3 cable news networks because they don't really offer too many opinions that are slanted one way or another unlike m s n b c which is basically not exist in terms of its news division and c.n.n. who calls chris cuomo don lemon and anderson cooper anchors when clearly opinion ok i could say something but i don't want to cause a stir here ron essentially what liz warrender well i was going to say frayed or something like that but it's kind of immaterial right now. ron what c.n.n. and watching c.n.n. and and warren they want to show that bernie sanders is a massage in a stone thing. that's what they're really trying to do and you know as an italian american i am clutching my prose right now over the freighter comment peter i got to say i'm. like. there are plenty of there i guy that's there you got me ok i got you got i have
5:42 am
college guys on behalf of the black i've got a black polish and i apologize i dog whistle that happened just you know i apologize. i know i mean look it's when you are and i think that the entire corporate media is guilty of all the same things you know m s n b c fox news c.n.n. they all add here to the same business model that i find incredibly problematic so you know why is the media against bernie sanders and c.n.n. print in particular during that debate why are they against bernie sanders ok when your main advertiser is the pharmaceutical industry good poing and there's a candidate out there who wants to have medicare for all which is really going to disrupt the pharmaceutical industry are you going to you know favor that candidate are you going to want to cover that candidate favorably when oil and gas is advertising on your network constantly and you have a candidate who has an actual green new deal that's really going to try to run i'm going to i'm going to jump in here we're going to go to
5:43 am
a short break but it looks like c.n.n. doesn't understand the concept of a chinese wall here after a short break we'll continue our discussion on bernie center stage with our team. from the must lead people by its own keep the slime due or of new the focus on the us to do so. please join to get what. you see in the. most good limited. group.
5:44 am
you know yet in this little. operations understand that a cost of doing business is buying and building support in washington d.c. and that includes staffing up with former members of congress put them on your payroll you want to hire a chief of staff from a powerful senator or committee. member get their chief of staff put them on your payroll as a lobbyist this is what washington does on a bipartisan basis in fact i think it's the only point of true bipartisanship in d.c. is corporate influence over government. whether they did as he should be. one of the few more so if you mean what because.
5:45 am
5:46 am
when. is it and there have been removed can you. hear me. diminish. and. welcome back to crossfire all things considered i'm peter lavelle to remind you we're discussing bernie sanders. ok we're going to go to joe here we all like politics and we all like to theorize and strategize i'm going to give you my strategy at the moment here ok i was trying
5:47 am
to avoid using the word impeachment ok i have to say the impeachment process is going on everyone knows that here but it seems quite convenient for the democratic establishment that to. 2 of their candidates on the left warren and sanders now they're they're sequestered they're off the campaign trail oh it's quite convenient for joe biden is well and of course hanging in the wings if all else fails is hillary again so this kind of is convenient for the democratic establishment and their donors go ahead joe ok well for starters if you saw what hillary clinton said recently in a new documentary that's being released she said that nobody likes him she referred to bernie sanders that way and she would not commit to backing him if he were the nominee. i don't see that yeah hillary may still be waiting the wings certainly and don't forget michael bloomberg by the way who could finance his own campaign to the
5:48 am
tune of billions of dollars and is already climbing in the polls as a result of that look at this does take senators off the campaign trail particularly the 2 headed monster elizabeth close to char who just got indorsed by the new york times it's not one person which is remarkable. everybody gets it i know there are some very you know for me who are iron i'd like that but i would i thought was it's like nominating a doctor had called him mr hyde ok for a year or indorsement ok you cover both sides there ok and i'm glad you mentioned it to me what did you think of that endorsement i mean what in the world do they have in common i mean or are they just being politically correct you know supporting 2 women is that just identity politics and i want to ask you does it really isn't really play well in you know democrat in the democratic party i mean or is it just you know some rich white liberals that like all this here because almost everybody i know is almost indifferent to it go ahead jimi. you know i think that's a little bit of indifference i mean playing into that the idea of you know in this
5:49 am
era of the need to movement like we're going to endorse these women i think for anybody who's intellectually honest that is a no no so now when i saw the endorsement i thought seriously a month to month treat us like we can actually think and that we passed algebra you know the 6th grade i mean it's almost offensive you know to do these sorts of things without any real substance as to why there's an endorsement to a candidate that you know realistically is probably not going to get close to the nomination you know ron what do you think about that because again they're showing their cards really obviously c.n.n. is the new york times they want the establishment they say they want quote unquote things that go back way they were which will never happen ever happen again and actually it's really damaging the democratic party and i'm saying that as a conservative ok looking at what's happening to the democratic party because it seems to me that it's almost a they're shooting themselves in the foot over and over again and makes the party look weak and i don't think it creates leadership among the candidates that are
5:50 am
being put forth which were all un exciting i mean boring i mean i'm a political junkie i can't get through a democratic debate i just can't it just it's too boring for me and it's so predictable all of the time go ahead ron it is pretty painful and you know like i said live tweeting it helps it become a little more amusing for me personally that's how i can get through but but yeah i think that you know like the point i was making right before the break you know the media and you know i'll just sum it up and in a nutshell the corporate media really benefits from the status quo a lot of those candidates are very safe for the status quo bernie sanders is the only one who isn't so they don't want bernie sanders and then you brought up you know this whole impeachment thing and yeah it is taken warren and bernie sanders off the campaign trail which i do see as as very problematic you know i see. heading into iowa was we're heading into new hampshire and i know that i actually
5:51 am
forget the gentleman's name but there was a republican who spoke on that mentioned how they thought it was very unfair and they were wondering if the other nominees would suspend their campaigns in the meantime out of respect for sanders and warren which i i i agree with partially but i disagree with a little bit i think that should apply to everybody except for joe biden because joe biden has the same problem hillary clinton does every time he talks people like him less so i actually think that it be ok if all the other nominees would suspend their campaigns except for joe biden who i think should be required to talk more yeah he's like in some kind of protective custody with his his advisors don't talk joe ok we'll get through that. because they know he can't raise his poll numbers every time he talks people like him less because he you know he talks that's what he does you know chill i sometimes i can say to him going toe to toe go ahead go ahead jamie go no jamie please jump in as if you didn't appreciate him you didn't
5:52 am
appreciate him going toe to toe with the gentleman in the in the where was he when he said you're down liar where with me when he did that oh yeah and i thought that was the challenge to push us i don't know if. i want the more we learn about joe the war and i think he has a problem with the truth ok well leave it at that we're talking about bernie now joe i sometimes get this gut feeling that the democratic establishment and its donors would prefer to lose this election to donald trump than have bernie sanders and again i'm a conservative ok but i'm looking at the process in the procedures they would prefer to lose to donald trump than have someone like bernie sanders win what do you think. boy that's i think in the end just like republicans probably don't want crazy the establishment any way around donald trump sure they kind of warmed up to him right the loyalty around him that you see the gallup poll numbers something
5:53 am
around 90 percent so you know would they rather lose the white house and have 4 more years of donald trump democrats when they control the house and may be able to get some things done quickly if they take back the senate somehow i don't know i just think they prefer to have one of the establishment candidates biden which i can't believe still leads nationally what you guys were talking about before the exudes no confidence from anybody that he is up for the task at his age his faculties as they are unfair or not he does not exude any kind of confidence so that's amazing that he still leads nationally but i have a feeling in iowa he's going to run into some problems i think ultimately boy they probably would want to hillary clinton on obviously running and then winning the white house it with the 2nd try not just the popular vote but obviously electorial but yeah i don't think the d.n.c. is happy with with the way things are going right now because there is no clear front runner and in the end we're heading towards i think we can all agree probably a contested convention i don't see any other result because i don't see anybody
5:54 am
pulling away from this pac yeah jamie what do you think about that and course we have hillary in the wings always willing to jump in if necessary you know it's such a weak field and there's no real charisma out there and i have to tell you personally seeing 2 people that call each other friends on national television and get into that kind of spat i mean if bernie sanders is a friend of his warren then i would never want to say anything to her privately because i wouldn't trust her and all the turn around and backstab you on national television i thought it was such a disgrace and the whole reason why we're doing this program because i'm not a bertie sanders supporter go ahead jamie. yeah you know you know at this point i got to tell you that all of the candidates i agree they're completely and eventful and not thrilled with any of them and i commented to my husband i said you know they're just going over to donald trump and saying here you go they're handing him you know another 4 years but i think what has to sort of happen is that the
5:55 am
democratic you know the d.n.c. has to really take a hard look at their base and what their base is saying and lift up some candidates potentially that can be more exciting and you know i was thinking that the what's the kennedy out of massachusetts would toss his hat in the ring i said may well you guys i mean you guys have a whole scene you have told see but you through or away as she was you know road kill and you know what people are going to say people are interested in her i'm a conservative i like to listen to what she has to say because out of the whole god she's the only one that's coherent that doesn't need to memorize talking with points you know i just you know the establishment that we keep saying or yang though peter that i describe joe is right joe's right yeah i think you know i mean this universal income thing because of him i actually started yes searching it and you know what and also price everybody in my audience there is a conservative way of dealing with that issue ok it's really interesting it's
5:56 am
really really complex and more i read about it the more i'm interested in having a discussion with progressive's about it ok because i think it's something we have to talk we have to soon very very soon talk about it because the the way the economy is evolving we're going to have huge problems with unemployment here i'm sorry ron go ahead jump in yeah i mean i think that i think that i mean i like bernie sanders he is the candidate i'm supporting and i you know i also like policy jabbered and then the other person i was fond of was micro fell you know and he was just kind of in there to to kind of push the conversation left. but i do think the d.n.c. would rather lose to trump than have an actual progressive in the white house because that threatens their gravy train you know it threatens the gravy train of the d.n.c. it threatens the gravy train of the d. triple c. . i think that they know what the base wants it's very apparent where the base is
5:57 am
versus where the establishment as and i think they don't really care i think that they've proven over the years that winning it's not their 1st priority winning is maybe about their 3rd priority their 1st priority is let's make sure the donors are happy and then after that in a distant 2nd or 3rd is maybe will beat a republican or 2 but if not as long as the gravy train keeps rolling we're fine ok i'm going to finish off with joe 40 seconds joe do you think the in the in c.n.n. is going to ever apologize for its appalling behavior. well is that unless it's you know rhetorical day i don't know quite how to answer that you know we had fredo you referred to earlier actually called more authentic sally a punk and i don't know what guy calls a girl a punk it's like calling a guy calling a girl a jerk it's a gender thing yeah and he of course he's never going to apologize for that or anything that they get wrong because this starts at the executive level that's
5:58 am
pushing this sort of narrative and culture there so if the boss doesn't mind why do you have to apologize right ok no apologies all right we have run out of time folks many thanks and i guess the new jersey and in los angeles and thanks to our viewers for watching us here are to see you next time and remember. you know one of the best charts greatest charts i've really been studying for years now i don't know exactly how we're going to get into this but i just want to mention right here at the top it's the money velocity chart. the money velocity chart and we're going to be getting into that. this is
