it was released last friday and in the sports world like that it's a friday news dump so the things that you hope go under the radar so the catholic church has been facing this sex abuse clergy scandal for years now gail benson is the owner of the new the new orleans saints very catholic louisiana everybody knows that very strong catholicism she's very good friends of the archdiocese of new orleans and she's supposedly and the executive in the saints provided sort of like a p.r. * help for the clergy that were suspected of child sex abuse in the catholic church in new orleans so they were so essential to the archdiocese was reaching out to this n.f.l. team to say hey can you help us out with some p.r. because of the scandal that we're involved in with the abuse it took children that way i mean that's what's being alleged right is the alleged the end of you know the scenes are saying it was and they like to say minimally involved but for some

reason they're not willing to release these e-mails that were sent from an n.f.l. dot com e-mail address they're like no no no no no unless they're admitted in court as evidence we're not going to release them and it's interesting because john's you know he's a survivor of abuse by priests as a whole network of these boys and girls and you know he kind of said something was really interesting to me and he pointed it pretty much right at the saints owner and we got to listen to it. i see most football teams including the new orleans saints as wanting to promote good will in the community and good will with vulnerable children i see them in pediatric cancer wards and that type of thing here they're doing something that is in syria so incredibly a methodical. use that's what he's pretty much you know he's angry as as any survivor of the sort of abuse would be that the saints are pretty much saying we didn't help the catholic church is you know kind of. tiptoeing around the issue saying the priests are involved on their side they're saying even if they did help

us the priests who were involved are gone ok bye there are 276 documents that the teams attorneys are trying to keep from the public 276 out of the large number or someone saying they had minimal involvement in this topic i go i can understand why people would be sitting up said later hey you know there's something there's pressure there could be something fishy here when you're trying to keep that much a secret i get like where people might make you know and allege that this there was some form of and they do and you know and the prosecutor actually you know they have a statement saying in order to fulfill this role the saints must have known the specific allegations of sexual abuse against a priest and made a judgment call about whether those allegations by a particular victim who were against a named prius and in its opinion religion enough to warrant being included on the pedophiles list wow wow now i want to ask you this can't be any better for the national football league with their image problem obviously we all know what's been thrown at them before the image issues they're facing but this is happening right

the united states the roman global star with your mission here in the united states i would definitely say we're seeing the middle class decrease significantly we're seeing the expansion of poverty we're seeing the criminalization of poverty in addition to the way that we are in this country currently under this administration treating a lot of our immigrant community but i would also say that there is something else that extends even beyond this because when you talk about the ratings in 75 i look back to the fact that we've always had minorities people of color disenfranchised populations who by and large didn't buy into the american democracy already because many people have been treated like 2nd class citizens who are american citizens so when you are taking up on a mantle of democracy is the best thing and it lifts all boats and that you know we care for our we care for people and this is something that should be taken up across the globe i think that you have to look at a lot of the things that you have done to subjugate people right here so i think that depending on the population that you talk to american exceptionalism has been

a bright future i'm not sure i know well enough to know if they think the game is rigged but in america used to be the rule of law was equal relatively i mean problems but now they know it's rigged in europe they say what's the future and they look around and see migrants and things changing so fast it's a fascinating time in the world you know and i look at it through you got to go ok you got the 2008 financial crisis no one really went to jail for that fact they blame the people for who got to do is the worse the united possibly do in that situation then you have this massive expanding wealth that's making people say you know what how we do democracy to bay isn't working you know we have to rethink this then finally look at the end of the day neal liberal new conservative regime change wars of warmongering foreign policy that's again you see it my right i don't want to see my brother or sister much children go off to fight a war that i don't nothing about why we're fighting it right you know and i think all these things kind of totally ripped the pieces of the under the bus not believing in the systems anymore that it respective to what side of the aisle you're on there is a great amount of the american public that does not believe in our systems of

government anymore they don't believe that they work for us they don't believe that they are thinking of well over time and they fayne them basically from being institutions that protect and serve the people so being self serving and many of the common denominator just said is governments in charge they they fight wars and spend money fannie mae and freddie mac. they go they go forward in the way member of the bad the bailouts were because families lost their homes and as you say the rich guy the top guys mozilo went to the caymans with their own money and his guys. went to jail but also student loans the student loan crisis did because government managed a system that made 2 sets of people rich the institutions harvard has and down in the billions and the people teaching at those schools that are on tenure track and all that they're not holding accountable in the middle is that working working class people my point is where government's gotten bigger another one is more and more people are kind of saying i work hard but my neighbors on medicaid why is that fair well there's reasons we wanted medicaid but we didn't want his mother was so scary disability in the obama years they expanded dramatically you get social

security disability for almost anything depression you got it and then you're on medicaid and medicare you're on medicare for that people said wait why is the system rewarding one group and not the other in other words governments gotten bigger and it's it's decided who the winners and losers are and that's usually not we the people it's usually the people that are connected and all that but let's also were to go to government is is the people the other day and i will disco government spends as we were talking earlier on some really ridiculous stuff at the end of the day there you're also talking about the influence on the government from the private sector talking about your core right that's right it's things like that when one of those are allowed to run roughshod that's where you have been the big stepping on the small as we've seen time and again through history and then that is a refrain that the lobbyist then you know the interest on goes a little bit well but the but the great thing is that the one thing it's positive is the voices are changing shows like yours people can listen to you can have your show you had to go through the big 3 now you've got social media republican democracies we have is changing because of social media to access to to to

a prison entire economies in towns become built around it in the case of parchment it's about 2 and a half hours away from any major city and pretty much everyone in the small tiny town apart from the middle mississippi either works for the prison know someone who works for the prison or no one has been incarcerated in the prison so to me just to get the feel of going there and speaking to people was sort of going above and beyond and and when it comes to prison issues in general we almost never hear about them in the mainstream corporate media and we especially don't have the big name journalists going there and speaking directly with the people who are impacted 1st and foremost. you know from all the people that you interviewed. term 12 different individuals that you interviewed was there any one thread among those interviews that you discovered going down there that maybe you weren't expecting to find or something about major well i think that i interviewed a multitude of people from an individual who spent 40 years in parchment prison to lawyers who've been working for decades to help the incarcerated people there and

no matter who i spoke with they all said they want parchment shut down they didn't just want small reforms here and there and sort of a new p.r. spin on it they want to shut down and they want people 1st and foremost of no violent offenses the car straight and released and then they actually have action steps and plans to have parchment eventually shut down the numbers are staggering i think some 50 to 60 percent of people incarcerated there were. an offender so they said we should start with them and then work our way down another thing that was really interesting that the mainstream media has not touched on when they are reporting on this story is that the prisoners from parchment are just being transferred to the private prison that's up the road essentially so that's been the governor's sort of quick solution is just let's move out of the private prison well i got to say i can't wait for this to be released hopefully sometime next week we'll be able to see this this awesome special report that you put together on parchment prison it's absolute vast springer watching our culture reproduced with
