generations worry about it that's all builds up this high that's the goofy little programs like this but all the republicans in congress have called themselves deficit hawks yet under the control they own congress right now they have the senate they have the white house the debt has grown substantially i think it started at 19 now it's up over what 21 trillion altogether is the republican claims of fiscal responsibility truly just the campaign trail scam at the end of the day the numbers would say so because if you look back you don't have to look back forever go back as far as skinflint jimmy carter who frustrated a democratic congress by being such a penny pincher then the gipper gets in and figures let the good times roll these deficits don't matter we happen to be in and up the economy now and it's been building since before the present president and the fed is just about 0 now so take tack out of the dow and you've got

a panic on your hands do you truly do because i mean they keep saying oh we're creating all these jobs at the end of the day the jobs are creating are high wage jobs most you know there's a lot of employed people but most employed people are working 2 jobs at a time you know we have a lot of problems in this country and i just it's frightens me when i see numbers that size because that's how you've ever gone balance a trillion you've got to start by making a lot of cuts i would say defense department number one of how much money we waste of there sure kick the can suman nature you know let somebody else do it donald trump was quoted a couple of years ago as saying that when the chickens come home to roost i won't be here and that's human nature they all do it but you get reelected by bringing home the bacon that's very true that's very and that's where you see a lot of these truly insane expended gems where i live in rhode island they have legislative grants and members of the state legislature hand out $1000.00 checks to boy scout troops here and there. it's

a controversy that will never go away and i want to say thank you so much and keep up the great work of the big picture always a pleasure having you know that time. all right with the national football league's biggest game of the year just days away it's all glitz glamour and football frenzy here in the united states this week but last amongst the headlines and player interviews is a brewing controversy involving the new orleans saints the archdiocese of new orleans and the victims of sexual abuse by clergy you are not going to believe when you hear this story producer regina r.t. america sports producer extraordinary joins us now with this story which totally made my hair turned white and gone on the lot of us like it's just one of those things it was released last friday and in the sports world i think the friday news dump you know so the things that you hope go under the radar so the catholic church has been facing this sex abuse clergy scandal for years now gail benson is the
8:37 am
owner of the new in the new orleans saints very catholic louisiana everybody know that very strong policies and she's very good friends of the archdiocese of new orleans and she's supposedly here and the executive in the saints provided sort of like a p.r. * help for the clergy that were suspected of child sex abuse in the catholic church in new orleans so they were so essentially the archdiocese was reaching out to this n.f.l. team to say hey can you help us out with some p.r. because of the scandal that we're involved in with the abuse it to children that why this i mean that's what's being alleged right is the alleged the end if you know the saints are saying it was minimal we and they like to say minimally involved but for some reason they're not willing to release the e-mails that were sent from an n.f.l. dot com e-mail address they're like no no no no no unless they're admitted in court as evidence we're not going to release the. and it's interesting because john's you
8:38 am
know he's a survivor of abuse by priests of the whole network of these boys and girls and you know he kind of said something was really interesting to me and he pointed it pretty much right at the saints owner and we got to listen to it. i see most football teams including the new orleans saints as wanting to promote good will in the community and good will with vulnerable children i see them in pediatric cancer wards and that type of thing here they're doing something that is. so incredibly anesthetic called. use that's what he's pretty much you know he's angry as as any survivor of this sort of abuse would be that the stations are pretty much saying we didn't help the catholic churches you know kind of. tiptoeing around the issue saying the priests are involved on their side they're saying even if they did help us the priests who were involved are gone ok bye there are 276 documents that the team's attorneys are trying to keep from the public 276 out of the large number or
8:39 am
someone saying they had minimal involvement in this topic i go i can understand why people would be sitting up said later hey you know there's something there's probably there could be something fishy here when you're trying to keep that much a secret i get like where people might make you know and allege that this there was some form of and they do and you know and the prosecutor actually you know they have a statement saying in order to fulfill this role the saints must have known the specific allegations of sexual abuse against a priest and made a judgment call about whether those allegations by a particular victim were against a named prius and in its opinion religion enough to warrant being included on the pedophiles list wow wow now i want to ask you this can't be any better for the national football league with their image problem obviously we all know what's been thrown at them before the image issues they're facing but this is happening right the week of super bowl you know what what is this doing for the n.f.l. brand what's been their response to all this they actually are pretty much hands off saying unless something comes out of these documents in court. mark on this
8:40 am
count leave it where it is they're taking a very hands off approach and in spite of everything they've been going through this year you've had the fact that you're pretty much showing that you're not hiring minorities and people of color in your coaching staff and we discussed i believe last week you're having to deal with the issues of mental health and c.t.e. antonio brown now on a sunday care about his mental health roger goodell that we're going to focus on it and you're like but where is this 3 months ago when are you pretty much something's definitely wrong so the strength exactly and the fact that you're trying to recover from your issues of collin capper nick at the you're not making a good faith yourself you're not being you know that goodwill ambassador you're trying to be you're making your situation worse by getting embroiled in something like this you know i got to say this is one of those again another very fascinating developing story coming out of the sports world that's crossing over into the political ramifications of this all regina thank you so much for the good work to do in the building work to do in covering these kind of stories always a pleasure thank you. all right as we go to break court watchers do not forget let

no look the plastic is a problem it's in the food supply it's in the oceans we keep plastic and i'm a slave plastic in the human body is going to kill you right so life expectancy is down and banning plastic is not going to change the equation one iota right because it's just too far gone so should we care or just consider that humans had a great ride why we did then then shuffle off our mortal coil and that he owes. money to the kids compensate them. to deny. people.

led so. direct. what is true was his faith. in the world corrupted you need to descend. to join us in the depths. or a maybe in the shallows. trade and investment to become magic spells to come get you cannot make development. most people think about trade they think about goods and services being exchanged between countries and the investor a chapter of a trade agreement is about something very different but what one investment leads to toxic manufacturing that destroys sacred sites all ruins the environment. that means local communities that are being poisoned if they object if they do anything

that the company feels is interrupting their profits they can be certain. of taking on the whole nation philip morris is trying to use i.s.t.'s to stop tour of the way from implementing new tobacco regulations aimed at cutting domestic smoking rates a french company sued egypt because egypt raise its minimum wage to democratic choice of a trump corporate law joining us as we try to find out for the to. all right welcome back well my friends you know as we enter the final lap of the 1st chord of the 21st century our most through it it seems that many are starting to question the driving political power behind. more than half of the 20th century i'm

talking of course about the recent findings that democracy yes democracy is dipping in popularity both around the globe and inside its biggest cheerleader the united states of america according to a recent study by the university of cambridge is center for the future of democracy across the planet their share of individuals who say they are dissatisfied with democracy has jumped significantly since the mid 1990 s. from 47.9 percent to 57.5 percent with the biggest surprise coming from the shining beacon beacon on the hill that is the united states of america where those researchers have discovered that since the 2 $1008.00 financial crisis deterioration has continued year on year ever since and now less than half of us citizens are content with their democracy this is a massive fall given that back in $1095.00 more than 75 percent of the united states citizens were completely satisfied with our democracy here well joining me
8:47 am
now to offer their insights and opinions into why we are seeing these terrible numbers is political analyst and democratic strategist ameesha cross and the president of the eagle forum education and legal defense fund that martin thank you both for coming on as always wow. what i want to ask you that i mean the numbers are very clear it was an expansive world poll i mean that they definitely was i think some 4000000 people around the globe what do you believe accounts for democracies fall in popularity and support both here in the united states and around the globe i'll start with you mission here the united states i would definitely say we're seeing the middle class decrease significantly we're seeing the expansion of poverty we're seeing the criminalization of poverty in addition to the way that we are in this country currently under this administration treating a lot of our immigrant community but i would also say that there's something else that extends even beyond this because when you talk about the ratings in 75 i look back to the fact that we've always had minorities people of color disenfranchised
8:48 am
populations who. by and large didn't buy into the american democracy already because many people have been treated like 2nd class citizens who are american citizens so when you are taking up on a mantle of democracy and the best thing and it lifts all boats and that you know we care for our we care for people and this is something that should be taken up across the globe i think that you have to look at a lot of the things that you have done to get people right here so i think that depending on the population that you talk to american exceptionalism has been a hard sell while for many people and today i think it's just expanded to more groups more people are feeling it then did in the thirty's forty's fifty's sixty's and so on why do you feel that well you know it's a great question it's great topic and one of the things i think that happened this government got so big in america everybody thought anyone can make it the american dream you know the old horatio alger story up from your bootstraps and not everybody got the same start i know that but everybody thought we could make it in 2008 exactly then people looked up and said wait the game is rigged it's not open
8:49 am
everybody and they watch now through the lens of rigged and everything else with great good looks like the powers in washington if you're a republican or democrat senator your family's going to be rich you're you know your kids are going to be taken care of the going to go the best schools you know look at somebody breaking down how many of the senators kids go to yale i mean they might all be that smart i don't know but so i think people think in america the game is rigged i think in europe and you know we're seeing brecht said tomorrow and all and even south veiny a few days ago in italy i think the people in europe are saying we don't see a bright future i'm not sure i know well enough to know if they think the game is rigged but in america used to be the rule of law was equal relatively i mean problems but now they know it's rigged in europe they say what's the future and they look around and see migrants and things changing so fast it's a fascinating time in the world you know and i look at it through you got to go ok you got the 2008 financial crisis no one really went to jail for that in fact they blame the people for who got to do worse than i possibly do in that situation then you have this massive expanding wealth that's making people say you know what how
8:50 am
we do to mock. it's a bay isn't working you know we have to rethink this then finally look at the end of the bay mill liberal new conservative regime change wars a warmonger in foreign policy that's again you see it in iraq i want to see my brother sister much children go off to fight a war that i don't know thing about why we're fighting it right you know and i think all these things kind of totally ripped the pieces of the under the bus not believing in the systems anymore that did it respective to what side of the aisle you're on there is a great amount of the american public that does not believe in our systems of government anymore they don't believe that they work for us they don't believe that they are thinking of will over time and they fayne them basically from being institutions that protect and serve the people so being self-serving in many ways but the common denominator just said is governments in charge they they fight wars and spend money fannie mae and freddie mac. they go they go forward in the way member of the bad the bailouts were because families lost their homes and as you say the rich got the top guys mozilo went to the caymans with the money and his guys went to jail but also student loans the student loan crisis that because government managed
8:51 am
a system that made 2 sets of people rich the institutions harvard has and down in the billions and the people teaching at those schools that are on tenure track and all that they're not holding accountable in the middle is that working working class people my point is where government's gotten bigger another one is more and more people looking up saying i work hard but my neighbors on medicaid why is that fair well there's reasons we wanted medicaid but we didn't want his mother was so scary disability in the obama years they expanded dramatically you get social security disability for almost anything depression you've got it and then you're on medicaid and medicare you're on medicare for that people said wait why is the system rewarding one group and not the other in other words governments gotten bigger and it's decided who the winners and losers are and that's usually not we the people it's usually the people that are connected and all that but let's also were to go to government is is the people the other day and i will disco government spends as we were talking earlier on some really ridiculous stuff at the end of the day that you're also talking about the influence on the government from the private sector talking about your car right now if you're writing things like that when
8:52 am
windows are allowed to run. rough shot that's where you have been the big stepping on the small as we've seen time and again through history and then that same refrain that the lobbyist then the interim goes side of aisle love of the but the great thing is that the one thing it's positive is the voices are changing shows like yours people can listen to you can have your show you had to go through the big 3 now you got social media republican democracy as we have it is changing because of social media and access to to to instantly to tromp in the senate and all the rest so we're just a fascinating time we are we are i want to thank you both for coming on today always a pleasure and mark mr cross and thank you so much. art since january 1st 2020 the mississippi prison system has seen over 10 prisoner fatalities in the month of january and guess what that month hasn't even ended yet in response to the news of these tragic deaths along with some very brutal videos prisoners were leaking out their social media we said watching the hawks social media producer and journals springer down to the magnolia state to get the whole story on its prison system
8:53 am
here's just a preview of what he discovered. when the inside is totally different from outside people watched movies in they have to take on with prison it's like but they don't know. what it is to be in that we have to take the blame we. go to a whole lot of things but we take each other and then the condition. when you're not used to when you're out of the norm. in an abnormal situation and you have to make do so you try to figure out a way to do that but we have to. take to washing all the
8:54 am
clothes on your. and there's no question. the washing machine that they have you put your clothes in a bag. or you take them to the laundry and he turned them in you don't know what you're going to get that you might get clothes back you might not. be that good at all. the mole in the prison is coming to the wall you bring in the field that. a lot of people sick. from death. to toilets to sewage is bad. the kitchen. dishwater ship in a train from the day before all the stuff to the plate the price of a. vegetable was stuck to the trains not good at all joining us now is the spirit of watching our producer govern you travel down the mississippi you
8:55 am
spoke directly with people on the ground there talking about your parking prison and all these women why why was it so important for you to actually physically go there and what was the experience on the ground you know in light of the special that you brought back to us will see so well i wanted to go to mississippi and see the prison in person and speak with people there because i think a lot of people across the country don't know where the prison in their state is or where they're even sometimes with a local jail may be right and i think that when we have a prison entire economy is in towns become built around it in the case of parchment it's about 2 and a half hours away from any major city and pretty much everyone in the small tiny town of parts of the middle mississippi either works for the prison know someone who works for the prison or no one who's been incarcerated in the prison so to me to sit at the feel of going there and speaking to people was sort of going above and beyond and and when it comes of prison issues in general we almost never hear about them on the mainstream corporate media and we especially don't have you know the big name journalists going there and speaking directly with the people who're.
8:56 am
impacted 1st and foremost very rarely when you see that you know from all the people that you interviewed you about time 12 different individuals do you interviewed was there any one thread among those interviews that you discovered going down there that maybe you weren't expecting to find or something about mary well i think that i interviewed a multitude of people from an individual who spent 40 years in parchment prison to the lawyers who have been working for decades to help the incarcerated people there and no matter who i spoke with they all said they want parchment shut down they didn't just want small reforms here and there and sort of a new p.r. spin on it they want to shut down and they want people 1st and foremost with no violent offenses you know the car straight and are released and then they actually have action steps and plans to have parchment eventually shut down the numbers are staggering i think some 50 to 60 percent of people in question are there were nonviolent offenders so they said we should start with them and then work our way down another thing that was really interesting that the mainstream media has not
8:57 am
touched on when they are reporting on this story is that the prisoners from parchment are just being transferred to the private prison that's up the road essentially so that's been the governor's sort of quick solution is just let's move out of the private prison well i got to say i can't wait for this to be released hopefully sometime next week we'll be able to see this awesome special report that you put together parchment prison it's absolute fast sprinter watching our producer thank you so much already that is our show for you today remember in this world we are told that we are loved up so i tell you all i love you tyrrel been to a keep on watching all those hawks out there and have a great big night. and we don't want the instep and. the with an axe and the money and the kind of fun. is
