a suspected terrorist is shot dead by police in london after stabbing 3 people and what authorities are probing as an inspired attack. a peace plan that triggers a violence donald trump's accused of taking sides in the middle east as palestinian authorities cut ties with washington and israel and protests to break out in the west bank also ahead. the u.k. sets sail from the e.u. on its postcards and voyager but after 47 years of cooperation there are fears of economic storms and mutiny in scotland and in northern ireland.

right broadcasting live direct from our studios in moscow this is our international i'm sean thomas certainly glad to have you with us. had a knife wielding suspected terrorist has been shot and killed by police in south london authorities say 3 people were stabbed in this assault which happened on 3 thumb highroad the man now being named as amman had been reportedly released from prison only days before after serving just half of his 3 year sentence for terror offenses.

was. was. was. on the metropolitan police's say they are treating the incident as an islamist inspired terror attack 20 year old a man had been in prison for spreading extremist material it is believed to be grabbed a knife from a shop before carrying out the frenzied assault the perpetrator had reportedly been under armed police surveillance british prime minister boris and johnson has thanked the emergency services for responding to the incident and has expressed sympathy to those injured witnesses described what they saw. somebody. like us. put us going to. go to them in the.

dead of the talk show. it was one of. the lighting of the city but definitely not out. of scene and probably a plane that police uniform has and walked to the body and this is where they realizing he got something on it and this where they came to us they say we have to leave can you take trade inside st and he did the day or you left the area earlier we got reaction from chris phillips former head of the u.k.'s national counterterrorism security office. threat to me is not an area you would necessarily expect to terrorism but they do so there has been a number of stabbings recently in and around the area but this is something the surveillance officers were obviously behind this man they obviously believe that he was he was like the 2nd some state to be following some around on
6:04 pm
a sunday afternoon is not absolutely normal and when they saw a moment react they reacted swiftly as well and and the sheer speed of what they were able to do shows that they must have been close to him and able to. put him to death very quickly because that you can't you can't deal with kid gloves with someone that has stuck to them and is trying to stop it unfortunately we don't have more police in use to butt out but so i think it will become clear soon whether this person has been released from prison where there he has come back from syria known as a fighter that way world will know more about him and why he was considered a real threat and that will be the time when perhaps the criminal justice system again will be held up as not protecting people because the chances are that this person is very well known he's either been convicted or been in trouble with the police for these things and that's why they knew so much about. the truck

administration's long awaited middle east peace plan was released on tuesday provoking a firestorm of criticism the president of the palestinian authority mahmoud abbas described it as a humiliating proposal which fails to respect the basic rights of palestinians. my vision presents a win win opportunity for both sides a realistic 2 state solution that resolves the risks of palestinian statehood to israel's security today israel has taken a giant step toward peace it's a great plan proves wrong it's a great plan for peace frankly mr president. given all that you have already done through israel i'm not surprised. different last we heard a little while ago from president trump and prime minister netanyahu talking about it with a cool deal of the century which we described as the slap of the century we will
6:06 pm
say a 1000 times no to this proposal. mahmoud abbas's said on saturday event he will now suspend all ties with of the united states and israel the release of the plan triggered protests in parts of the west bank with militants in the gaza strip firing rockets and mortar rounds at israel scores of demonstrators also burned tires to voice their anger at the u.s. proposal. now the trumpet ministrations of recognition of jerusalem as israel's undivided capital is the 1st nonstarter for the palestinians who want east jerusalem to be their future capital now israel would also control palestine's borders skies and the flow of goods in and out the fledgling state would not be allowed its own military and israel would have the right to carry out security operations there palestine would also be barred from security or diplomatic arrangements with other countries without prior approval of israel but it would
6:07 pm
also get a $50000000000.00 aid package now the state of palestine would consist of a patchwork of areas in the west bank and gaza that are currently cut off from one another here's a quick look at the map they would according to the plan be connected up by roads and tunnels you can see market there and some bridges you can see marked with the little circle areas most of those have not been built yet under the proposed deal the palestinian state would be given a capital in d.s. an arab neighborhood on the outskirts of east jerusalem or his policy or spoke with some of the residents there. this doesn't look exactly like a capital city and yet its hero in the village of decent the outskirts of east jerusalem that the american president wants the future capital of a palestinian state to be now not only has the issue divided israelis and palestinians but as you can see by the security barrier it's also divided
6:08 pm
palestinians from palestinians so on this side you have some of east jerusalem on the other side you have the rest of it and it's anyone's guess how a city like this well if a function as a capital. structure. or capital of palestine. or the people who are is just sort of start everybody think. you know it's. one of the village in the town and we believe a 07 is a capital this is the parliament building here in abu dis now it's closed and it doesn't look like much but this is where presumably a future parliament will function from when trump says that this is a win win situation for both palestinians and israelis well it seems he's being cynical at best about acing and be able to want to make big but they have to give us what they give is that you know the fear he doesn't give any think.
6:09 pm
this is it doesn't give us from us most of our legs as they have to hear our voice . i think this will lead everybody to the good to think and to conflict together say what we want to hear and the people here so want be uprising here don't be upset that key to the city of abu dis but when inhabitants here themselves are pessimistic as to the promise that it unlocks it's hard to understand why president trump is putting so much faith in it. r.t. . right rights groups also have expressed serious concern over many of washington's proposals. the oval office there because that has been happening and what we're seeing with this bill as that is going to enable. and able to actually act it's a landstuhl annex more which is biased getting a better theory and. thousands of palestinians i makes a shoe is. is on violation of the international law and to be american
6:10 pm
administration is saying that's ok we've got to go ahead and that that's the major roads out of this that is completely one sided where is the biased i mean voice where does that put us going to start where where or what are the this is being opposed to that one about a one sided mad obesity that is that any government that is out it's up to. us and what if we work with us that is on a day to day basis we see a guy in the office going to nation and out of an equality and injustices that they have been through and historically and they are wrong on a day to day basis but the united states already declared war on the international criminal court over its investigation to afghanistan and its examination of the situation in palestine its put all these conditions you know to. save the negotiations that are clearly meant as has all their actions over the past 3 years meant to produce a palestinian rejection that would pave the way for israeli fixation the reality
6:11 pm
here is the united states national criminal court plays a critical role quite literally as a court of last resort in a case like israel palestine where there has been impunity where israel has not held virtually anyone of significance to account for serious human rights abuses over decades and the policies have been the same. the u.k. has finally bids farewell to the european union bringing to an end almost half a century in the block and an extended period of upheaval following the historical referendum back in 2000. 16 and britain's new beginnings are not without uncertainty as artie's a doubled quarter breaks down. no
6:12 pm
it's not a late new year celebration it's the u.k. setting sail from the e.u. after 47 years of being docked they're going to wave goodbye i will look forward in the future so working with you please sit down resume your seats put your flags away your anything a conflicted brussels bids them farewell you will be missed especially by european bureaucrats when it comes to london's money going into their coffers on the other hand westminster has been such a nuisance lately it could be just goodbye and good riddance almost half a century of the united kingdom's membership in the european union is over we want to have the best possible relationship with the united kingdom but it will never be as good as membership that could mean after the 11 months transitional period the u.k. finds itself in rough waters stranded at sea with no trade agreements unless
6:13 pm
something can be ironed out before 2021 when they'll be alone months we will not be a rule to go we will not be in the single markets and we will not be in the customs union and we will do this by the end of the year so how are things going aboard britain's flagship well half the crew is celebrating they're free to sail wherever they want finally because you're actually going to get going on here right now is that we we've lived through you know you want to write. about. i'm very excited for our future over and so you were very to make our own decisions i wrote those controlled i write migration policy. very patriotic it's a real joy and the captain's ready to steer them to a brighter future and but a beginning the e.u. has evolved with 50 is unit direction the global suits this country but the other half is seasick and predicting a doomed voyage for people to realize that if. we would because of that
6:14 pm
it's good if you try to be very disruptive we make you feel. similar to what we have you. know we will be worse off but see the u.k. . it's just really are is that some are even considering mutiny so angry they might abandon ship should the u.k. government continue to deny scotland's right to choose we may reach the point where this issue does have to be tasty i am not ruling that we must focus firmly on building and winning the political case for independence persuaded to climb aboard with concessions northern ireland is watching events closely while naysayers have dared to suggest the captain is ready to surrender british sovereignty into washington's hands the signs are that this government is prepared to sacrifice our country's interests and values for short term political advantage on
6:15 pm
a set i tried to deal with donald trump. as foreign secretary he embarrassed this country and as prime minister he shows every sign of being prepared to sell itself when and if the u.k. find safe shore sometime somewhere it might be without the treasure it was once promised unless boris johnson finds his sea legs quickly x marks the spot for brags that booty we heard from a former deputy mayor of london roger evans and international barrister julian mullins on what might lie ahead for post brags that britain. disentangling ourselves from the european union will be a long time consuming problem because when the european union issued regulations they had direct a thick it and instead of just letting them be regulations in order to describe how
6:16 pm
much we were ruled by the commercial we enacted those regulations of a bait and as acts of parliament and the consequence of that is that we're poor parliamentary console is going to for over the coming months and have to review dozens of statutes in order to change the law because they don't it remains the law of the united kingdom because we've already got a relationship with the you a lot of the material is in place here already so it's not like we're starting from scratch in the same way that the trade deal the e.u. did with canada was and there's quite a lot of the regulations mechanisms in place for deals around the world already i would anticipate that we probably won't want to change quite a lot of it actually we have to as my old boss the prime minister was saying look forward bring the country back together and work on making this a success over the next year in the years to come. still the can as fears grow

globally over the corona virus outbreak if there is a reported spike in discrimination against chinese we explore that after a short break this is hard to international that we. must talk about 20th century socialism this is when governments made mal investment and then they bailed out those mal investments until the economy went bankrupt. vs 21st century capitalism this is when banks make mal investments they when they go bad they bail out the malinvestment and that cycle continues until the economy goes bust and that's where are.

they put themselves on the line to get accepted or rejected. so when you want to be president. some want to. have to go to the press which is what before you can't be good. interested always in the water. pressure. back to the week we hear on our team international the corona virus outbreak has now claimed its 1st victim outside of china a chinese national in the philippines on thursday the world health organization declared an international health emergency but made a point of commending china's efforts to combat the spread of the disease. this declaration is a note a vote of no confidence in china on the contrary w.h.o.

continues to have a confidence in china's. to control the outbreak are their world health organization also stressed that countries should avoid stigmatizing chinese nationals over the virus are to go down off has been looking into that aspect of the crisis. borders on lockdown zombie like scenes of quarantine cities the world is united in trying to concoct a healing seram virus which has infected hundreds in china has now reached the united states villages have started to physically block themselves off from the capital and need cases have been confirmed around the world including germany and japan. in the contest of deadliest bugs the new coronavirus doesn't even come close to the order for a 1000000 flu but tables turn dramatically when it comes to the ability to strike
6:20 pm
fear in the masses and this fear is also bringing out the racist in some people with the chinese diaspora in canada among those at the receiving end our friend of mine has told the baby other day she dropped on her daughter and her daughter was just having a bad day she's 3 years old and. the daycare teacher kept saying if she said is she ok and she kept having to justify herself and say no we haven't travelled or we've been back to a certain amount of time i had one friend that a colleague of hers went around to everybody who was asian in her office and says are you trying to lose our usual china are you chinese has become a frequent question faced by canadians of asian descent chinese school students whose parents have recently visited china have been urged to stay at home for a while in france
6:21 pm
a local newspaper published this on its front page headlines saying yellow alert and yellow peril and the internet. did what it does best made everything worse if we could all agree not to read this things like the coronavirus in china wouldn't happen just seen just picked up the virus will die soon because it's made in china picked. i just bought a mask to protect myself from this corona virus but it's made in china so am i playing myself. when it disgustingly ironic that people are being racist towards asian people as they get in the coronavirus and back in the colonial era white people literally illnesses the country and killed thousands of indigenous people online jokes and adding to the mocking of the

chinese cultural habits but the asian communities fighting back with a hash tag i am not a virus were already experiencing subtle forms of backlash people not taking our class people's everyday away from minus 2020 what we should hope that our children wouldn't have to deal with the same things that we had to deal with growing up and that really is the biggest concern and calls for self quarantine are being. sounded all over the world by ordinary citizens and authorities alike such tactics against the virus have been made into a trend by big governments who have cut ties 7 with china and by beijing itself which however says that the isolation measures are a necessary evil to stop the new disease in its tracks the purpose of the government is to put 2 lives and health of the people at the top of all priorities therefore i have been personally directing and deploying the epidemic prevention and containment work this time now it seems it's
6:23 pm
a matter of whichever comes 1st either the virus or the hype around it has to stop but who knows whether the outbreak of racism will also be halted the reality is that the flu killed a lot more people ill people are comparing this to the sars outbreak sars killed 44 people in this country 41 people in my city alone the city of toronto are hit by cars last year you know so the risk is much higher on the day to day life things 3500 people in canada die from the flu 70800 people a year die from air pollution so there are certainly rest that are much much higher that because we see them on the day to day will internalize those as miss right now and all of canada there have been 3 confirmed cases of the coronavirus the odds of someone actually catching it are very very low and i think it's just fear based it's something that's unknown it's in the media there's

a media frenzy so people have just reacted in a very illogical manner. protests to continue to grip france so this week on tuesday thousands of firefighters were out in paris and yet again the situation descended into violent clashes with police. thank. you oh. it's a risky profession and they want to be recognized she just like the police just give you a sense of what's going on here in paris where the fire fighters have come from across france to try and get their food he says her it's up by the government they say that they likely need a massive recruitment troy's they need assistance because they say that the number
6:25 pm
of old school lives they receiving is increasing every year and they don't have the staff to cover it why are we protesting for 7 months because we've had no response from the administration or from the government there are 2 problems firstly our work involves a high level of risk and this should be factored in. securing 2010 to 2800 firefighters have faced an increase and the number of verbal and physical attacks against them police colleagues get more because of the great a risk they face and we're demanding an increase also i did not get that we are facing a shortage of personnel that's partly because departments on having their budgets slashed. so in terms of attacks oh no firefighters there are no specific figures just for them but they're all figures for all image and see chris that's for a site is police offices and ambulance workers back in august of last year those
6:26 pm
attacks are said to switch to a red light with many people claiming that there is a problem new ring firefighters with the police into a situation and then attacking them in fact they were some 110 s. so sore attacks being recorded every single day you roll that throughout the year those attacks reach to 23000 so that some of the reasons why the firefighters say that they deserve to have a risk premium just like the police are paid out on the streets again in paris hoping that this time they vote he says will be heard by the government chill the t.v. ski altie in paris. or that does it for me in the weekly this hour be back top of your hour with another pass at it i'm trying thomas quite have you with us this hour to try. to.

to. hello and welcome to the party albert einstein is often credited for defining insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result this is the argument behind the trumpet ministrations deal of the century aimed at hooting and to these really palestinian conflict is the american president indeed insane or perhaps a genius for breaking with the old framework to discuss that i'm now joined by. former deputy israel's national security council is to abseil and it's good to talk to you thank you very much for your time. great to be here thanks for inviting me now when dealing with bombastic and self aggrandizing people it's a natural tendency in all of us to devalue or downplay the significance of what

they're saying or what they're doing and both don't all chomp and benjamin netanyahu are unbearably vain the times i think of would agree on that but putting that aside don't you think that trump and he's team deserve a credit for at least trying something new yes i would give them credit for trying i would argue that there probably at least as far as trump is concerned are not. shall we say motivated by the purest of intentions one might say that you know purity usually is not part of international relations and that's true as well but as somebody who has been involved in previous peace attempts this one feels different mostly in negative ways and while i do agree that it is it is good to try and it is good to try something new and something else
6:30 pm
there needs to be some very basic conditions that are met in order for such a plan to be able to be called a peace plan rather than much more of a political scheme well mr astley and i know that you are very critical of the deal as are many odd there are negotiators forming negotiators on both of these really and the palestinian side but the counter argument from the trump team is that with all your negotiating and strategic foreign policy experience you guys haven't been able to solve the problem for many decades and in fact you allowed it to deteriorate let is now try a different approach why is that not the sound simple position it is on its face but you know not everything that is different would necessarily be. a productive and would and might may succeed in place of the previous attempts that failed and this one i think 1st of all one could argue to what extent is it really different
