are broadcasting live direct from our studios in moscow this is r.t. international i'm sean thomas. my partial results are now in from the democratic caucus in the u.s. state of iowa after a lengthy delay and pete but a judge has taken a surprising lead ahead of bernie sanders with 62 percent of precincts counted art he's been as commentary. we still do not have complete results of the iowa caucuses the 1st vote or caucus i guess in the presidential primary of the united states now in terms of candidates and the results we have 62 percent of the precincts reporting and at this point in terms of state delegates in terms of delegates representing candidates pete british has 27 percent of the vote with bernie sanders with 25 percent behind him is elizabeth warren with 18 percent and joe biden in 4th place with
8:02 pm
a 16 percent now bernie sanders is ahead in the popular vote however in terms of the the the delegates representing the state at the party convention is in the lead despite the lack of results we had both bernie sanders and people to declare victory so we don't hear results. by all indications we are going on to new hampshire victorious. due to the failure of the iowa democratic party to release results tonight and in the interest of full transparency bernie sanders a senior advisor jeff weaver is releasing results from nearly 40 percent of precincts in iowa now it took quite a while for us to get these results the results did not come on the night that the iowa caucuses took place and they say this is because of a technical glitch they are saying there was no election interference it was simply a technical glitch on the part of the technical apparatus used by the democratic

party to determine who would get what delegates take a listen with inconsistences in dubois in a free says the results in addition to that that system has been used to tabulate results where oh so using foot do so for results and that paper trail deval the dates that results match and ensure that we have confidence and accuracy in the numbers we report at this point many are pointing to. this is a huge embarrassment for the democratic party because this new system was put in place for the purpose of protecting the integrity of the elections this whole new system was put in this new apple computer program was put in in order to make sure that there was no interference and it seems to have had the opposite effect it seems that now this technical glitch has delayed the foyer final results of the iowa caucus vote almost indefinitely we have 62 percent reporting we don't know when the rest of the vote will come in we don't even have 2 thirds at this point of the vote now what is quite interesting it seems is that this is the beginning of

the primary in which it will be determined what candidate will run against donald trump in the 2020 election donald trump is the presumptive nominee of the republican party he'll be running for reelection democrats are now determining who will represent them in the final vote in november and already with this 1st vote in iowa with technical glitches with incomplete results at this point it's already off to a rather bad start now we'll be hearing from u.s. president donald trump later this evening you'll be giving a state of the union address but at this point the democratic party seems to be in a situation where their primary race is looking to be full of surprises. investigative journalist to dave lindorff believes the iowa caucus is not a reliable indicator of who will become the democratic nominee. i think what's happened is that the iowa caucus which only represents something like 15 percent of

the voters in iowa it's a very low turnout in their caucus in a state that's 90 percent white not reflective of the united states as a whole which is 60 percent white. and i don't think it's going to last as a predictor i think there's going to be some some more dirt coming out on this i think it's worse than it might look and initially i don't think it'll be much of a boost because cinders is going to really win by a large number in new hampshire i think that sanders people came out with their result after boot it jumped the gun and said based on no reporting that he had won so i think you know basically sanders was responding so that that didn't become the story line that we did 6 winning. it from or a sports person for a syringe hottest group has been arrested in france on charges of war crimes and

political analyst a convention believes similar situations will continue to arise unless the french government takes a tougher line on immigration. but once you enter the european union you can go more or less where you want there are no border controls how we entered hungary would be an interesting question to know that what is. prosperous and this in this situation is that he entered legally he wasn't even hiding he was living in white which is a neighborhood in the center smack in the center of more state studying in france with no problem whatsoever that means the police cannot do their job properly today in western europe they don't even know who's in the country we've got and sort o. s. to say that we don't even we don't even know if you got the means to stop terrorists we don't even know if terrorists are in the country we know there are some but we don't know how many and it's you know it's already difficult capturing those who are not even in hiding so i think definitely this is going to hurt a bit the government because this is very bad press very bad press having

a terrorist. somebody accused of terrorism entering legally come from the country going with legal it's a university this is very bad press so there might be some who's in the following days but i think unfortunately if the government doesn't handle the process of immigration legal immigration the indigo the immigration and the secret service if the government doesn't tackle these issues seriously unfortunately this these types of stories are going to continue in time. the leaders of russia and turkey have spoken by phone discussing the fallout from a deadly incident in syria a turkish soldiers were killed by shellfire on monday turkey blamed the syrian military and retaliated with air strikes on government targets also halted joint patrols with russia parties it was enough as details. now the russian president has discussed the situation with his turkish counterpart and recipe erdogan has shared his concerns and saying that well essentially he believes that this incident
8:12 pm
somewhat undermines the joint efforts of russia and turkey at bringing peace and stability to that i'm appalled in his turn has shared his concerns about the surge in terrorist activities in this syrian province but both sides have agreed to take steps bringing at moving this peace plan back on track now the russian foreign minister sergey lavrov has outlined the key things that he believes have to change in order for that to happen unfortunately for now turkey was unable to meet a couple of key obligations which were said to solve the core of the problem one of them to mark off the armed opposition that's working with turkey and ready to have a dialogue within the government within political process from the terrorists. back on monday turkish troops stationed in in this province they were shelled and 8 people 8 turkish soldiers died in that shelling and now the turkish side blamed the

syrian army for this incident and we tally neutralizing from 30 to 35 of syrian soldiers according to recipe tape erdogan and as he was announcing us as he was talking about this retaliation he kind of sounded few reus. we said it's no longer possible and we responded appropriately whether my aerial or artillery bombardment we are making them pay the necessary price and will continue to do so. so take he sees this retaliation as fair game because they are blaming the syrian army for the satanic but we still haven't heard anything from the syrian government they have been naive they have neither confirmed nor denied it was indeed them behind the shelling so but at least we have russia and turkey seemingly still on the same page and it is it was an extremely important phone call for russia and turkey to regional powerhouses facilitating the peace process in syria more news

of growth i think the impact on the pharmaceutical industry is going to be huge now in terms of all of the russian antivirus i think that is sectors of the economy that can take advantage of the shutdown like retail food for example online digital services now going to blue as people you know lock themselves up and so it's it's not going to be a one way street it's on eat them and that's why i think it's difficult to predict exactly what's going to happen but that i think you can't say with a certain amount of certainty that the short term impact will be no i'm not sure how be but they definitely will be a negative impact. in 3 months time this can be overcome factors can be restarted the supply chains center will get back to what they were and that will and the consumer behavior will change and we'll see a bounce back which is what happened in 2003. in an unprecedented move some of

britain's most senior political journalists have boycotted a downing street briefing on the prime minister's bragg's of plants artie's nigeria twitter takes up a story. a number of political journalists have boycotted a number 10 briefing after the prime minister's a try to ban selected reporters now as a consequence of this a number of journalists refused the briefing and walked out including the b.b.c.'s laura cohen's bird i t.v.'s and robert preston and political journalist from the daily mail telegraph the sun financial times and the guardian and this is a big statement the source from number 10 said there was a normal briefing following the pm speech for all lobby journalists but confirmed that there would be and i quote a small a selected briefing for specialist journalist the source went on to say that a number of uninvited journalists barged into number 10 and demanded to be part of it they were told that they were not allowed to attend the implication of these

actions of course categorize the journalists present at the time apparently some were specialists and some one not in fact all of the journalists present were political journalists and it hasn't gone unnoticed that tensions between boris johnson and the media have been escalating over recent weeks and there's been a huge reaction online to this latest incident kudos to reporters from the b.b.c. mail telegraph the sun financial times and guardian who walking out of a government briefing after the mirror i haven't imposed riband see would you like about u.k. newspapers with the journalists working for them or undeniably good. also this idea there should be technical and specialist separate briefings rist some political journalists are excluded is a joke excuse this is about the major plan of johnson's policy all outlets and their interests have a right to know the details. u.k. media is proud of their ability to report freely but incidents like banning the

mirror for example from the campaign bus during the election have not gone unnoticed at that time the editor of the daily mirror said that the society of editors thought that the bad was disturbing and an attack on free speech now this walkout certainly suggests that some very high profile british journalists may finally have had enough. in july last year r t n sputnik journalists were barred from a conference on media freedom hosted by the u.k. and canadian governments as explanation of the british foreign office accused of the 2 outlets of spreading disinformation without providing any evidence to support the accusation veteran british journalist peter oborne says it is unprecedented it to hold a separate briefing for selected journalists in downing street. was incredibly unusual and quite sinister here i think is that trying to split the political reporters into 2 categories one who get vested briefings get special access and the

others who are put in a different room not allowed into the briefings and that is how it's never happened in my 30 plus years as a political journalist we're talking here about an attempt to manipulate and grow light journalists you come on our side you write what we want you to write and then you're free you are given special status and if you don't do what the government wants then your phrase in. britain is rolling out the green carpet with it the country's energy regulator unveiling plans to scrap gas heating and the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars by 2035 that in the hopes of hitting a net 0 emission target 15 years after that but there are worries it will hit the most vulnerable in society as every home in the country is set to pay more. well this is it the moment we've all been waiting for the beginning of the end of carbon
8:22 pm
emissions as the u.k. could be on the path to net there are a monday the u.k.'s office for gas and electricity markets or presented its new action which is aimed at transforming the country's infrastructure to make it more eco friendly britain has come a long way it is decarbonise faster than any other major economy but we must go further particularly on heat and transport we are taking an approach that recognizes that our role protecting consumers includes a cheering net 0. it is now vital that the energy industry rises to the challenge and demonstrates how it will work with the government and off jam to decarbonise britain's energy system at lowest cost well it's a $9.00 point plan and if you don't drive electric car yet you may be in trouble as under the scheme 10000000 petrol diesel cars will be replaced with the green immobile and for the time being you better keep your winter jackets on because gas central heating is to be ripped from every single home well the plan also wants to

shift towards renewable sources of energy like solar and wind which is great news for g.b. then with all the rain so how much will this cost well as digraphs that would put it you can put a price on saving the globe can you and doesn't have a direct answer either recognizes that there are tradeoffs to overcome such a scale is spreading the cost of a low carbon energy system between today's and tomorrow's consumers when apparently this $9.00 point plan is all down to you so we could all go up in smoke when you know how much it can set you back well the rollout alone of electrical vehicles could be $2000000000.00 pounds a year which is the equivalent to 30 pounds on every household bill. chandler. i think. it is going to be good for the planet if we do have to pay a bit more money if i live. in a freezing cold tap system so that's my. baby and it will not take the

trouble. i guess providing it's not done on the. basis where people just paying money out. of it so that i'm well jim could cause an uncomfortable atmosphere as it has a history of hiking prices for consumers for its own good just a few days ago the national audit office revealed that electric bills were unnecessarily high fee yiss setting the public back 100000000. pounds annually but if it's all spread out equally for the good of the planet then 1st fair right well the royals wouldn't get the warmest reception on this one when prince charles hopped on his private helicopter producing c o 2 emissions to get to climate change conferences in order for him to undertake as many engagements as he does across the u.k. and around the world he sometimes has to fly as he has often said assume is there is a more sustainable way of making these journeys he will be the 1st to use it to use it or a 1001 is hard to believe when buckingham palace tops the list for the most environmentally
